The Quell (HG RP)

Jade gritted her teeth, but not out of anger. It was out of the emotion filling up inside of her.It was different when she wanted to think about it,but when it was just brought up out of nowhere. That's when the brutal feelings came. She looked down at her plate for a bit before she pushed her chair back and stood up."I'm not hungry," she stated to nobody in particular, wanting to get out of talking about her family with some boy she only knew for barely a half hour. With her eyes on the ground, she went to find the woman who announced lunch, who was the person overseeing things on the ground, rather than watching from a box like the Gamemakers. When she found her,she asked,"Is there a bathroom?" Once the woman pointed to where the bathroom was,she sighed and started towards it,hoping to get there before anybody did anything should they be thinking about it.

He sat there, kind of regretting what he said. He felt so sorry.... He kept eating his food. It still could be his last meal...

Jade went into the bathroom and leaned her elbows and front end against the counter, staring at herself in the large mirror."Why must the touchy stuff be brought up?" She thought out loud as she shook her head. Her stomach growled and showed that her appetite wasn't happy with her leaving her food behind. He didn't mean anything bad by it, she told herself before she wet her hands and dabbed her face which was still red from exerting herself in training.

After a little bit,Jade returned to the table and sat down, looking at her plate and only her plate."Done pouting?" The District 2 make tribute taunted in a baby-like voice. All Jade did was glare at him before stabbing her noodles and bringing a forkful up to her mouth.

Derek looked back at her. "I'm sorry if I took you aback by it... Just wanna vent my story to someone before the games, you know?

Jade looked over at him before she gave a shrug.Swallowing, she said quietly,"It's fine,it's just...a tender topic." She made a low growl noise as she heard the other Careers snickering and chuckling, except for the boy from her district. It was funny, because her and him were the youngest of the Careers, everybody else were in the new allowed ages for this Quarter Quell and the young tributes had more class and respect than the older ones."I'm gonna kill them first..." She muttered to herself under her breath before she bit into another forkful. At least nobody had cleaned up her plate. They must have anticipated she would return before lunch was over.

After a minute,Jade looked back over at him."I don't mind listening if you need an ear," she added finally, not one hundred percent sure she wanted to hear somebody else's troubles when hers were still so sore, but she would for his sake...even though she knew it would be harder to get rid of him if the time came.

He smiled, and resumes his talk. "Her death was long and painful, and she depended on me to be there for her..." He looked down. "I had to quit my job to be there, making my parents take dual shifts..."

Jade listened, but didn't look at him.Her eyes were fixed ahead as she tried to drown out the Careers discussing plans which she assumed were fake to get rid of her first, using voices that made them sound uneducated, and focus on Eleven's voice. All the while, she ate what was on her plate, trying to get finished before training would resume and she would have to stop."How old was she?" She asked gently, glancing down at her plate as she poked another shrimp and ate it.Once again, her green gaze returned ahead of her,her expression a mixed one of different emotions.Once the Games started, things would be different.Nobody would be labeling people except with a target.

"Four." He said, and ate another pice of steak, and chewed slowly. "She'd be nine today..." He looked down. "Died because we lacked money to pay..." The chewing got slower. "You wouldn't understand ... To see someone you cared killed by a thing others richer than you would shrug off..."

Jade felt a little lump growing in her throat when he said she was four when she died. Then when he said her birthday was that day and she would have been nine, she felt her caring side taking over. She waited for him to finish before she said,"I understand...not in the same way,but what happened could've been prevented..." Then she shook her head."I'm sorry for what happened..." She added in a near whisper, her eyes fixed on her plate now.

"It's fine..." He said, finishing the food. "...don't let them see your weakness..." He whispered in her ear as a warning. "...I'm sorry that might sound mean... But I don't think you want to show your sensitive side to your enemies just yet...

Jade raised an eyebrow, pausing for a moment to think of a response to that. She was surprised at what he said, but she hoped it didn't show. She was a little disombogulated (I have never been able to spell that xD .).After a minute, she leaned over to him, getting her mouth close to his ear."Technically, you're an enemy, aren't you?" She whispered to him before standing up since the woman began speaking to end lunch and resume training.

(Sorry, this is quick.I'm going to play video games before my dad goes to sleep.)

"I guess so..." He shrugged. "But frankly, I'm gonna die soon in the tourney. I've no combat experience except for the past 24 hours. As I said, I just want my story to pass on to a hopeful winner."

Jade shook her head at what he said."You don't know that.Anything can happen. Two victors won last year," she said, her voice still quiet, but apparently not as quiet as she thought because the two tributes across from them, both from District 12,seemed to perk up a bit."Their our mentors," the said in unison, their young voices chiming with pride. It was hard for Jade not to smile at their excitement that they had the stars from the past Games for their mentors."Well, maybe you'll win," she said, her smile seeming to bring a different look to her face even though she was only smiling a little.

Jade added to that, while chuckling a bit,"Just make sure you kill us quick and as painless as possible if we meet." She took a look towards Eleven before shaking her head."Seriously...you'll do fine. You got the jump on me a few times," she said, her voice back to it's quiet tone and the neutral expression back on her face. Why am I helping him? She asked herself as she looked at him.

"Friendly one, aren't you?" He smiled. "You hear about the rumors about the two winners? Them readying themselves to start a rebellion?" He waved to them as well. "You think they'll ever make it? It's been quite a while since they won, right? A bit of me wants to say they are past their prime." He ate the salad. "But, we can still hope..." He whispered into her ear to avoid 'others' from listening in. "Anyways, I also heard the separated as fiancés... Quite a long time to be engaged and never married... I think it was a sham so they could both win... A good trick, but nonetheless..."

Jade shrugged at what he said about the two "star-crossed lovers from District 12".To be honest, she never paid attention to the stuff after the Games were over.It was a good trick, but she wasn't sure both of them knew if was a trick."Call me friendly again and I'll hunt you down first..." She warned in a whisper, narrowing her eyes at him slightly. The two tributes across from them simply shrugged at what he said. They were probably too young to grasp the idea of a rebellion.

Jade's green eyes took a quick look at the other tributes and she noticed the Careers giving her dirty looks as if she was commuting treason. It's not good to have them mad at me already...they'll get me in my sleep, she thought with a shiver as she brought her attention back to the people around her.A neutral expression slowly surfaced on her face again and she shook her head. They were the one allies she couldn't lose.

Jade shrugged at him."If it helped you,it's fine..." She mumbled, trying to sound like it was alright.Although, she knew that knowing somebody else went through the same thing she did wouldn't help her all at.She knew that they all had back stories and families and loved ones...the lost goes on."Better get back to it," she said, mostly to herself, but if he took it like she was talking to him then that was okay with her.

Jade made her way back to the training center, her pace slow since she wasn't eager to do anything after that conversation. She decided she would work on the information stations. How to tell poisonous plants from edible ones or neutral ones.Perhaps she would be alone with it.Then she would work on making a fishing hook, just in case she needed it.

He sighed, looking around, and deciding not to finish his food, and prepare as well. He left the table a conflicted man...did he really want to die?

Jade sighed as she walked over to the tube that would raise her into the deathtrap of the arena. Her stylist was a typical Capitol resident and couldn't have been happier that Jade was getting this opportunity. The opportunity to die, she thought pessimistically as she stepped onto the platform, facing away from her stylist, and listened to the zip! of the tube that quickly shot up around her, preventing her from attempting a futile escape. After a moment, the platform started raising, causing her heart to race to the point where she could feel it pounding in her chest. This was it.It was fight or die.She would not die without fighting. She would not go down looking weak. She would prove herself to every person watching her that she was not weak. That, even though she was emotionally destroyed (they wouldn't find that fact out on her watch),she was not physically destroyed and she would not die without trying.

Soon enough,Jade's vivid green eyes were scanning the area around her.It was a bit chilly, but not too bad.The arena outfit,a simple jumpsuit colored shiny black, covered most skin except for her hands, neck, and face, didn't offer much protection, but she had a feeling what it was made out of would block the wind...maybe.When her eyes landed on the cornucopia, she noticed the vast range of mountains behind it.That made her look behind her,all while the thud of the countdown echoed in her ears.Mountains.All around.Everywhere.There were mountains everywhere. The only area she could see a substantial amount of grass was the meadow that the cornucopia and the platforms sat in.This should be interesting... She thought as the count came down to ten seconds.Judging by the snow covering most parts of the mountain, the coolish air in the meadow would hit freezing in the mountain range. In the remaining seconds, the Careers' plan ran through her head.Take over the Cornucopia was the main goal.Second, chase after any weak tributes that don't get too far away. That would just be for a few of the Careers.Next, find a water source.Well, that was done. There was a large pond behind the tail of the Cornucopia. Finally, set up camp and go from there. And as she thought of that last point, the last second ticked off and the Games began...
