The Quell (HG RP)

Jade sighed as she looked at the selection of swords in the brand new training center.Brand new technology, brand new everything. She hated to actually think that the simulators were cool.Everything else, though,it could fall down in a pile of rubble for all she cared. This whole thing was disgusting for her,but she found that either outcome would be fine with her.Just let her end be quick if hers was going to be in the arena. Her plan was to work through training as casually as she could.Except for the swords. She would have fun with them.Maybe show the rest of the Careers to not mess with her. They would be her biggest problem in the end.The reason being that they could stab her in the back, figuratively or literally. She would have to bide her time carefully.

Jade finally settled on a nice light sword and selected her options in the simulator. The entire time her expression was firm, but not angry.Once her selections were in,the orange lights began to move around to create her targets. Her eyes narrowed as the first glowing pixel target came at her and she swung the sword slantways to get rid of it.Quickly, she turned around and swung at the next target which was heading her direction. Then she noticed a target throwing a weapon at her and she ducked before slashing the target. She took a quick glance at the windows and noticed her district partner had come to watch her."Time to turn some heads," she muttered to herself before launching herself forward at a target, stabbing it before she landed on her feet.

Derek looked around, and sighed. His hair was messy from the ride here, and also being pried from his parents. Not even a goodbye... He thought. This is so cruel... He had heard from his Career that he should meet the first, change her over, That the higher district tributes had more skill than him. And that 'Stealth and care are the Keys to agriculture, welter its to nutre or destroy.' He rubbed his head. His town had gone dark over the years... He decided to do what he said anyways, and walked over to Jade.

Jade swiped the sword at the last target and stood still for a moment. Her vivid green eyes looked down the training area as if daring another target to come, but she knew there wouldn't be more coming. She took care of that.Running her hand through her long blonde hair, she turned and went to set the sword she used back in its place. She looked towards her district partner and gave him a slight smirk. They had known each other, through her brother, but only hung out on occasion."That's how you impress someone," he joked with her,but all she did was raise an eyebrow. He knew of her plan, which happened to be the exact opposite of his, since their mentors arranged them together.

Jade took a look at some of the tributes that looked over at her.Apparently they had stopped to watch. The Career pack, the other tributes from one through four, were snickering since they figured she would go with the flow and join them. She didn't notice the tribute from eleven coming her way.She acted like she didn't notice anything and kept a straight face that had a bit of pride in it.Her thoughts went to her brother and she could picture him smiling with pride at her performance. He would've said,"Way to turn some heads," she knew it.A sad sigh escaped her mouth and she looked at the ground. If only she had somebody to go back to if she won.

He walked up to Jade. "Hello miss." He said to her. "My name is Derek, and you are Jade, if I was informed correctly?" Still no sign of any response coming from her. "Very well." He sighed. He looked at her. "Did your trainer say anything about me?" He scratched his head. "I doubt it, nothing is truly special about me that would be useful." He yawned. "Wanna... Spar?" He said after a long silence. "Unless you want to not give away your moves or something?"

Jade looked towards him for a quick moment without moving her head.He probably didn't even notice it.What does he want? she thought (sorry,my phone won't let me italicize words) as she huffed, half ignoring him and half listening to him.She didn't need to get involved with anybody aside from who her mentor had told her to.That was the Careers.Watch the others, but only ally with the Careers. Now this boy was talking to her and she figured she knew where he was going to end up.He would want to ally with her.

At the mention of sparring,Jade finally looked over at him, stopping her legs from walking forward anymore. She raised an eyebrow before saying,"What do I have to lose?I'll win or lose these Games, but either is fine with me." She then headed to the large pad that was for sparring and other similar things.Hand to hand combat wasn't her best thing, but she had some moves. She had been trained for this like every other kid in the Career districts. It just wasn't her strong point.Sword play was her strength, obviously. When she reached the pads, she crossed her arms and looked towards eleven. While she waited for him,she tried to think of his reaping and if her mentor had told her anything about him.

"Nothing at all." He said "Just to talk while we do." He grabbed dual daggers, his weapon of choice. "Might as well share a bit of our story, hmm? I'm not one for the alienating aura around here..." he took a defensive stance. "And, I highly doubt I'd be able to defeat you." He looked at her. "So, first move goes to the lady..."

Jade narrowed her eyes at him for a moment."I don't do the whole back story chitchatting," she stated plainly, putting a bit of firmness to the tone just to get her point across. As she said that, she went over to a rack that held different sizes and weights of swords. Why not use her favorite weapon? The weapon she was most skilled at.Might as well get some real practice. Those targets couldn't block her swings and their weapons couldn't hurt her. After choosing a shorter sword, since that was her weakest type of sword and she knew that she could use some practice with them, she turned around and went back to the mat.For a moment, she took in her opponent, wondering just why he would put this on her.Of all the people he could choose to talk to and try to get information out of,he had to choose her.And her touchiest topic.Like she wanted anybody to know about the terrible deaths in her family or her life. She knew that the tributes' teams would know something on her,but she wanted the tributes' knowledge to be as limited as possible. The less they knew about her,the better. She didn't need anybody using her past as a weapon against her in the arena. That would hurt worse than any other weapon.

Jade raised an eyebrow again."First move, huh?" She commented, her tone taking on an air of playfulness...in a sort of way a predator might use when attacking it's pray...if they could talk. After thinking for a moment, she began to slowly circle Derek, keeping some distance so that if he couldn't handle the wait and broke like she wanted to see if he would, she would have time to react. Her eyes stayed right on him, right into his eyes, and her movements were loose in every area except her arms. Her arms were set in a way that showed she was prepared to react or attack.Let's see how he reacts... She thought as she continued to slowly circle him, also planning on actually attacking if he wouldn't spring first.

Derek smiled. "I didn't think you would actually talk.." He said, slowly, studying her movements. Not a atypical thing to try and phase someone off by circling. She had a big sword, but that was to his advantage, his speed and with would outclass her heavy and sometime uncontrollable swipes from the sword.

Jade shrugged at what he said, still circling him,her body taking on an even looser state than before. Not much longer... She thought as she turned the sword in her hand just slightly, the feel of the handle taking her liking.Even though she hated to hurt anybody, she loved using a sword. Not on people, but the dummies and other fake targets used for training. She decided to not think about having to actually hurt somebody with it and consider the whole situation harmless.Just another day of training. When the Games came, she would have to get over her feelings and use whatever weapon she could get in her hands to ensure a victory.Although, she didn't think she would win.The older aged tributes, which made up nearly three quarters of the tributes and all of the Career tributes aside from her and the male from One,were twice or nearly triple her sized and the male from Four looked like he could crush her skull in just by tapping her head. She did have speed to her advantage, though, since she was somewhat tall and had long legs. Not to mention she had a naturally light, slim build.Hopefully she could outrun her opponents.Like that would help in the end.

Finally,Jade made her move. With skilled foot placement she moved forward and swiped her sword upwards towards him,her hand switching to a reverse grip quickly to get more force into the swing. Then, since her feet were placed just rightly, she spun and swung the sword to the side, preparing to block an attack. She was curious about the boy's skills. What was he capable of.He had to be able to at least handle those daggers if he thought he could take on a Career in a sparring match where she could pull out all of her chops and make the unskilled tribute look like a fool. However, she was not full of herself or like a Career at all.She didn't underestimate her opponent, rather she overestimated him and expected him to counter her attack like a champion.

He dodged to the right, and smiled, and ducked under the swing. He liked to use the daggers as an extension of his fist, as if he was boxing. "This is a good start..." He smiled, and was going to do a flurry of swipes.

Jade watched him with a blank expression, although she was pleased with the way he started out.She would give him a chance to attack next since she wanted to see what he was capable of doing. She brought the sword towards her, holding it at an angle so if covered her main area and she could counter easier should he go for an area near there. It was also in a place where she could move it quickly. Her mind raced as she tried to plan what he would do next.Daggers weren't in her vault of knowledge like some other weapons, but she had a little training in them. Not enough to be comfortable using them, though.

(Sorry it's short.I'm out right now :P .)

(It's okay, fight scenes are hard)

He kept up the relentless assault. "Seems you need to study your weapons more..." He said. He secretly hated doing this, however. He knew that soon, she and he might have to fight to the death...

(They are...which I find to be weird xD .)

Jade narrowed her eyes and blocked a shot at her arm. After a moment, she had another idea than to be on defense. She swung her legs towards his, keeping herself up with her free hand.Quickly, she stood up and pointed her sword at him."You need to learn about other tactics," she commented emotionlessly as she switched her grip from normal to reverse and back to normal casually, not expecting another attack.

(It also doesn't help that my phone hates RPN xD .)

He tried to block, but the blow was strong enough to knock his weapons away. He smiles. "Good point...." He went to get the daggers

Jade narrowed her eyes at him and rushed over to where his daggers landed, standing in between them and him.She looked at him for a moment before kicking the weapons behind her away."Now what do you do?" She asked, not liking talking, but she wanted to see how he would respond to that. She pointed her sword towards him and put herself in a stance that would allow her to move quickly.Don't get comfortable. He's capable of more than he looks, she thought as she increased her grip on her sword.

Jade took a quick glance around the area and noticed a few of the tributes stopped and watched them.Great, more attention. She wanted people to see her with the sword like they had before, but that was it.They weren't to find out more about her and her skills. They needed to think she would be easy when it came time to get rid of her,but so far she wasn't succeeding in downplaying her battle skills.

As soon as she was looking at the other tributes, he did a leg sweep, knocking her to the floor. "I won't get distracted." He smiled.

Jade made a slight "oof" sound when she hit the floor, not expecting the sudden impact."I would watch your mouth,I still have a sword," she commented back as she pointed the weapon towards him and pushed herself into a sitting position before starting to get to her feet. What a dumb idea, she thought to herself, mentally chastising herself for letting her mind wander to the people watching them.Especially since some were chuckling at her.In fact, she could hear her brother laughing at her right now.If only he was alive to have actually done that and it wasn't just her thinking of it.

Once Jade was back to her feet, she heard one of the Capitol people who manned the training center rounding up the tributes to announce lunch. She narrowed her eyes, not looking at the person in case Eleven tried to get another attack in.It wasn't like she had come over and told them to stop.Feeling like she had talked to much, she simply stood there with the sword pointed at the other tribute, her body in a defensive position so she could react if he attacked again.

He smiled. "Good match." He walked to the lunch room. "You won the match. The only reason I got a hit in was because of hesitation. But I know you won't do that when we start..." He had made a connection. The first step. Progress...

Jade had the faintest bit of a smile on her face as she made her way to the lunch room, stomach grumbling and ready for some food. While she didn't like interacting with another tribute, because interacting could form some sort of strange bond that could affect her in the arena, she had enjoyed getting more time in with the sword. Her mentor wouldn't be happy with her most likely, though.Where would they be for her when she was in the arena anyways? All they would do is get her sponsors which could mean the difference between life or death. It wasn't a big deal."Yeah, you might survive the first day," she commented as dryly as possible, but a hint of amusement stung her tone as well. After that, she walked over to the table that was lined with every type of over the top dish, and even some simpler ones, that she could ever have imagined.

Since it seemed like the tributes were required to all sit at one table that year,Jade got a plate and loaded it with every obscure pasta dish she could find before finding an empty seat near the end of the table, deciding to avoid mixing with her eminent allies, the other Careers, just yet.Her plate was rather full by the time she reached the table. She wanted to try everything with a noodle poking out of it.Noodles were her favorite, especially smothered in sauce.Being from District 1,she never had to go hungry when her family was alive. They always made sure her belly was full and it wasn't like she survived on bread alone. Some of the things offered now she had had before and she was delighted to find that her favorite concoction of all time, fishing line thin noodles drowning in a pinkish colored sauce with tiny little shrimps mixed in,was offered on the table. It was a special treat for her to get it back home,so,since the Hunger Games were such a treat,it was only natural she would be able to get it.As she poked a fork into one of the selections covering her plate and spinned her fork around so the noodles would get around it,she noticed the empty seat beside her and prayed that Eleven wouldn't see it.

Her prayers were no match for the fact that it was the only seat left. Derek sat down with a hearty and balanced meal. Looking at her, he chuckled. "Your meal is very..." He thought of how to convey the words. "Interesting... No protein?" His plate had steak, some white rice, salad, a small bowl of ripe and flavorful clementines, "so..." He said, cutting the steak like a surgeon. "Have you thought about the bonus the Quell gives?" He took a bite, and savored it. "Your bloodline will be exempt from the Games... They want a good match ...and they won't make it easy.."

Jade sighed quietly to herself as she seen Eleven sit down in the chair beside her.Great... She thought unhappily before she stabbed a shrimp from the noodles and chewed it while staring at the wall, trying to act interested in something else rather than him so he wouldn't talk to her.Sadly,it didn't work and he commented on what was on her plate."These could be my last few meals.I might as well load up on what I really like," she said, her voice even and somewhat quiet. This was too much talking for her comfort. There was too much of a risk with words here. For a while, even after he asked the question, she just ate,her eyes looking ahead in between the two tributes across the table from them. They were young, both from District 12,and they looked malnourished. They won't survive long, she thought with a mental sigh of sadness. This was too harsh for her.Strange for a Career tribute, huh?

"Honestly? No.I have other things to think about," Jade finally as she looked down at her plate, thinking to her problems aside from being in the Games.Dad...Mom...Zane... She sighed audibly before shaking her head a bit."How about you?" She asked in a mumble before she glanced over at him.Get him talking about himself. Then he won't ask you anything, she thought as she resumed eating.

"Well..." He nodded, "I just want to do it so my..." He looked at her, puzzled as to why he was here. He decided to Change the subject, ash frankly, he himself didn't know..."Have you lost someone?" He said. "I did... So, you could say I have a death wish.... She was my younger sister..." He said.

Jade listened to his response,a little bit surprised he didn't have an exact answer to technically his question. The answer seemed obvious,it would be great she thought for her kids to not have to go through the Games even if she didn't plan on having any kids, but when put on the spot she could see where words for it could disappear.Especially when it seemed like she a great prize. It wasn't like she wanted to know, she just asked to be nice since he seemed to be trying so hard to get her to talk.It was a bit annoying when she just wanted to be left alone for the last few days she wouldn't have to worry about anything.Once she was in the arena she would have to forget her thoughts of anything but survival if she would have any chance of winning.

His next question caused her to freeze completely, fork in mid trip to her mouth.Jade's expression fought to keep it's emotionless state.Anger and sadness mixed inside her.Why did he have to bring that up?The anger. Now she was thinking of evey detail. The sadness.Feeling defensive, she mumbled,"None of your business..." She didn't care if she came off as nasty, even if she only mumbled t rather than snapping it.That was one topic she was determined to keep to herself.

"You have..." He said to her. "I can see it in your eyes..." He said. "Like you, it probably was sudden, preventable. I still have nightmares... She was so young...
