Fantasy The Omegas (always accepting)

Vincent turned around to look at the incoming new recruit. He was a good foot shorter than him, which didn't really mean much seeing as he was at least a foot taller than most people. However the newcomer was slightly less outlandish than Xacular, looking mostly like an average human being.

Xacular and the newcomer exchanged greetings and sparked a thought in back of his head. Maybe vincent had been too quick to judge. Not calling his gryphon hunting group oddballs would be outrageous, they are borderline insane, a talking ghost who talks to himself and young fellow with voices in his head. Although there is likely to be reasoning behind this madness it appeared surreal to any outsider. None the less they seemed to be somewhat sane, an more importantly trying their best at being well mannered, in their own quircky ways.

"Well, it's good to meet ya'. Name's Vincent, and our partner here is Xacular." Vincent said as he turned to face both Xacular and Cináed, being careful not to sweep anyone off their feet with his shield that he carries with two large leather straps over his shoulders.

"I'll do my best to keep us from getting too beaten up." He continued with a slight grin, giving his shield a tap with his fist letting out fairly loud clunk.

Miles snapped his head after hearing what Darrick said "That woman should have said that in her speech,a lot more important thing to note than the fact we might die, in my opinion at least" Miles said with a bit of an upset tone. Now that he realized he wont die soon out of starvation, he once again pondered on it for a few seconds. Every thing here is so new to him, even the simple sensation of knowing he will have food to eat today is new to him. Then noticing as Darrick already started walking he jogged a bit to catch up to him and then matched Darrick's pace. "By the way do you have any idea how to find the bears?" Miles asked Darrick hoping he was more experienced than himself.
CoreyXIX said:
Well, Darrick had some ideas when it comes to the possibility of finding the bears. "I know a fair bit about hunting and tracking. My specialty is in tracking and hunting other people, but I know enough about large animals to get by on it." he replies to Miles as they walk. Besides, the monks at the monastery could probably fill in any gaps in the job's details that they were lacking. Darrick's big concern wasn't in finding the bears, but if the bears got the jump on them. An angry man was merely the same size as him, but an angry bear was a several hundred pound wall of fury and claws. He just hoped most of their encounters wouldn't be too close for comfort.
As the pair walked out of the church and into the upper levels, they couldn't help but notice many of the people they crossed in the streets were giving them a wide berth. That changed once they reached the upper levels, though, and suddenly people in the crowds were acting normally again.

As they made their way up, they could make out the large pillar that made up the Southern Aeres Tower of Pyl's Gate. It was a massive structure that jutted up into the sky, and it was obvious that magic had a hand in keeping it upright. It was a circular structure, with glowing blue lights dotted across its exterior. Every few minutes, it would produce a flash of light, and a bolt of energy raced into the sky and over the horizon. Seconds later, other bolts of energy would come streaming in, resulting in more flashes before the tower became dark again.

They came upon a large ramp leading up to the tower, and from where the pair was standing, they could see a large, open-aired chamber. Making their way up, they were eventually stopped by a mage. In a rather monotone voice, the mage asked, "What is your destination?"

"Alright, we have a full party. When you're ready, we can head out," said the ghost looking at the job still in Corpus' hand. "Actually, this job doesn't even say where we can find the gryphon, only that it's been attacking farmers for a while."

Anima gave a laugh, "we're really just jumping into this head first, aren't we. Anyway, we should probably start by finding out more about this job. Any idea who to ask?"

@Hanzax @Imperator Penguin

The architecture and the magical means to keep it going were endlessly fascinating and watchable to Darrick. The wide berth given to him was nothing new to him. Truth be told, he kind of missed it because of how used to it he was at home. Well, at least before the last ruler was usurped and mob rule quickly took hold. Who knows, maybe bringing law and order to the treasonous and the damned would be in the cards for him again.

He couldn't even pretend to understand the finer points of all this, but his attention was brought back from the clouds by the the somewhat bored-sounding mage. "We'll be heading to Teirn, please." he replies to the mage. He wondered if the flashes of magic had anything to do with how they would be traveling.

“I suppose we should ask Morrigan or the Paladin, they might know,” Cináed chimed. He made sure to stay clear of Vincen’t shield; the thing was massive and towered over Cináed. “Do either of you know much about gryphon hunting?”

If it has a beating heart, it can be ripped out, thought Corpus. It just depends on how much flesh and bone you have to dig through in order to reach it

"Um...Corpus says he has no idea. Let's go ask the paladin," voiced Anima as he floated towards the old knight. The ghost was close enough to the knight so that he would know who was speaking, but far enough so that Anima could respond if the knight attacked. Gods knew how a seasoned paladin would react to being approached by a ghost.

"Greetings, paladin," spoke Anima. "I was wondering if you could give my peers and I any information about one of the jobs we have decided to take."

The mage nodded dully. "Alright. That'll be 50 gold pieces from both of you, unless you're going for official business, in which case you must state what your business is. Do you have a statement to that effect?" This was all said in the same near monotone voice. It was clear the mage had gone through endless conversations such as this one.

@Yesman @Imperator Penguin @Hanzax

The ex-paladin looked at the ghost carefully, scrutinizing it. He unconsciously tensed up, but didn't make any moves. "Ex-paladin," he corrected. "Now what job are you referring to?" His voice was stern, but polite. It was clear he was unused to speaking to a ghost on friendly terms.

"Yes, we're on official business. Some of the monks asked us Omega to help with their near problem." Darrick explains to the bored mage. He sure hoped he wouldn't have to pay the 50 gold fee right now. That would cut way to deep into what little money he had left.

Cináed would have replied but he was too busy admiring the paladin – ex-paladin – to think about speaking. Up close the ex-paladin was even more impressive. So what if he had probably seen better days, he still had the aura of a paladin about him. Cináed had once hoped to wear such a suit of armor. The ex-paladin had probably fought great beasts in that armor and saved many lives. Cináed could have been like him if only he didn’t have this . . .

He gritted his teeth as another wave of heat flooded his head. Now he couldn’t respond because Aodh was bashing against his skull, filling his thoughts with its own. Cináed began a breathing technique he found helped deal with his episodes and hoped one of the others would get the details of their mission.

"The gryphon hunting job," stated Anima. "We were about to head out but realized that the job didn't state where it actually took place."

Ask him how much flesh and bones we'll have to dig through to reach a gryphon's heart, said Corpus to Anima.

"I am not asking him that,"exclaimed Anima as he turned to the zombie. "No, rephrasing it doesn't help...why must you insist on-...that doesn't matter! We're not supposed t-...what? No! Nonononono, what is wrong with you? That's sick...there has got to be a law against doing that. How do you even come up with these things?...that's not any better..."

This argument continued until Anima finally shouted, "NO, WE ARE NOT DOING THAT. THAT'S EVEN WORSE THAN EVERYTHING YOU SUGGESTED BEFORE!"

The ghost turned back to the ex-paladin with a sigh.

"Sorry about that, my friend and I had a small disagreement on how to handle a gryphon. By the way, do you have any suggestions on how to handle a gryphon?"

Aisha, hanging off to the dark as she usually does, rolled her eyes softly. Her clouded vision blurring even more, why have they taken a job they can't even handle? She bit her lip watching them slightly watching them through her clear eye. She arched her back stepping into the light slowly, "can I be of any help?" She tilted her head listening more to the sounds around her.

The mage nodded again, accepting the information. "Right, heard about you. Orders are to let you in, waive the fee since you're helping out. Please step onto the blue platform. We'll be sending you to Teirn shortly."

The platform itself was one of five. One large central green platform, surrounded by four other platforms, one of which was blue. Upon stepping onto the platform, they could feel the hum of energy through their feet and in the air. After a few minutes, during which others joined them on the platform, mages surrounded the group. Forming a ring, they pulled energy from the tower and opened a rift which would take them to Teirn.

It felt... odd. First the body felt fuzzy, and a slight pressure could be felt everywhere as a bright blue light surrounded them. Then, with a loud WHOOSH, they suddenly felt like they were free-falling, but were standing still at the same time. All they could see was white. They could feel wind billowing past, but it didn't interrupt their path. Then, after a moment longer, they could their bodies again, which felt fuzzy, and then suddenly felt normal. The light disappeared, and suddenly they were on a platform again. But this time, they were on the main platform, which was colored blue. Moreover, the sun seemed to have changed positions.

They were greeted by a different mage, who said, "Welcome to Teirn, folks. Please step off the platform into the city, and enjoy your stay. If this is your first time visiting, the visitor's center is at the bottom of the stairs. That is all." This mage seemed much friendlier than the last, though his speech seemed just as rehearsed.

They had arrived at Teirn. The city seemed very non-descript, but very large. In the distance, over the walls they could make out a large lake, and closer to the nearby mountains they could see the castle, looming over just about everything else but the Aeres Tower.

@Hanzax @Imperator Penguin @Yesman @JustCallMeAimee

The ex-paladin raised an eyebrow at the antics of the ghost and the zombie, but it couldn't be seen behind his helmet. At length, he nodded. "Yes, I've had to hunt a gryphon or two during my time. Pretty rare, they normally don't leave their hunting grounds in the mountains. As for the job, this gryphon's been targeting local farmers, killing animals, destroying crops in the process. It's been targeting the western side of the city's farms. I'd start out there, learn what you can from the farmers there. There might be a way to bait it out, or you could try and track it down to its nest. As for the gryphon itself, remember, it has the speed and prowess of both a lion and an eagle. They can bowl over just about any man, and they can spot you from over a mile away. The claws will tear through anything but the thickest armor, and its beak can take care of what the claws can't. In short, it's deadly."

The ex-paladin stood up, pacing by the group. "You can bait it, with fresh meat or an animal. Trap it, and then kill it. Speaking of, you need to bring the head to prove its dead. Um, let's see... you could try and use a bright light at night, distract it or blind it that way. Another possibility is to have one person try and occupy its attention, while the others use bow and arrow, but that has its own risks. Or you can even try and go toe to toe and hope for the best, but I wouldn't recommend that. Other than that, use magic as much as possible. It is a magical beast after all, and you'll need every advantage you can get. You'll also need to account for the fact that it can fly."

The paladin faced the group, including the young lady that had just joined them. "I'll admit, it'll be a tough job. Any other questions?"

As much as he wanted to take a look around town, he decided going with the mage's advice would be the best starting point. This whole teleporting affair had been more of an experience than had expected. The sights from their vantage point were practically to die for as well! It wasn't often he had access to such nice methods of traveling. "If you don't mind, may we head downstairs to the visitor's center first? I would like to get a little information before we set off." Darrick asks his companion.

Silently she looked at him with those mismatch eyes and shook her head, "no questions, I've done this before." She nodded her head softly, "I'm okay being assigned any job." She folded her arms over her chest looking at the people she'd now just joined and nodded to them, "I am Aisha"

Hm...well that was...unnecessarily harsh. But she is the leader I suppose and this group isn't any cherry picking posse neither. The vampire turned towards the bar that the armored knight pointed out. The bounty board was supposedly around there and Desh wanted to get right on it. He had been traveling for sometime before he found the Omegas and not only did no form of challenge come up on the way but he was reduced to feeding on a few deer on the way. Retched, disgusting deer. Desh hated feeding on animals and while they did sustain him, it was like drinking a small cup of tea when you are dying of thirst in a desert. Yeah it will keep you going for sometime but it is not only not what you wanted, it only serves to make you more thirsty for what you really want. Water or in Desh's case, humanoid blood. Orc, Fae, Elf, Dwarf, Human, Desh didn't care. Long as it was sentient and humanoid. Desh's particular taste in blood came from combat prowess. The better the victim was in a battle, the more exquisite his blood tasted, as if to mirror his/her skill.

Desh snaps back to reality and shakes his head clear of his blood lust, his cloak jerking around with the movement. Moments later, he arrives at the bounty board the knight spoke of and saw the quests he had spoken of....well quest. There was only one left and it seemed like a bodyguard job. Great. Babysitting. Well, it would provide a distraction from his thirst if nothing else but it seems he needed another party member to accept said quest.
Lovely.

Her pointed ears twitched under her hood picking up the sounds around her, she sniffed the air vampire glancing around she folded her arms across her chest it's not too close. She returned most of her attention to the group looking them over one by one. She sucked on the inside of her cheek reflecting on how unusual it is for her to be working with a group, it'd been a long time since she had done so and she wasn't ecstatic.

Cináed nearly jumped out of his skin when the newcomer appeared, seemingly out of nowhere. Keeping a wary eye on her so that he didn’t get caught unawares again, Cináed listened to the paladin’s lesson on gryphon hunting. It had been the right decision to ask him, he clearly knew what he was doing. Not that Cináed doubted Morrigan could have given them as much advice, but the paladin seemed much more approachable.

Luring the gryphon into an open field seemed like the best idea to Cináed; who knew how high they would have to go to find its nest and it would have the advantage in the rough terrain. No, fighting it in a wide space with little cover and fewer objects underfoot to trip over would play to their strengths better, especially his. While he wasn’t sure what the others’ abilities were, it seemed like they had a good mix of physical and magical strength. Cináed could attack from range with his fire magic and it looked like Vincent could take a blow or two protecting him with that huge shield. He suspected that Xacular had some sort of magic as well and then there was that body carrying that large glaive.

Of course Cináed said none of this out loud. He wasn’t use to working in a group – or working in general – and he didn’t have the confidence to start suggesting strategies to people he had just met. He was content to let one of the others lead – it seemed like Xacular had no problem taking charge – and maybe he would make a comment once he knew what they were thinking.

Instead he turned his attention to the newcomer, Aisha she had called herself. She seemed to be convinced that she was already part of their group, not that he was complaining. They would need every advantage they could get and she seemed as dangerous as anyone. He had heard about gryphons before and knew that most people who fought them didn’t win. If one of the other’s had a problem with it though, he probably wouldn’t argue. They had already met the recommended number of people for the job and Cináed wasn’t sure how adding another person would affect their pay. While he needed the money, he wouldn’t be opposed to lower pay if it meant a lower chance of death, or worse, losing control. There would always be more jobs later, but not if they didn’t survive.

Despite all the thoughts swirling about in his head the only thing that came out of his mouth was, “Hullo.”

@Yesman @Hanzax @JustCallMeAimee

Sai-Iri had been sitting by herself in the corner, silently listening to all that was going on from the moment Morrigan started her speech until now. She was sitting straight with her arms folded in her lap, her staff propped up against the wall beside her. She had not sat a word, nor moved to stand up that entire time. Her gazelles eyes swept over the room, taking in the unique auras of each individual ,learning to focus on other sensory details then thier their anxieties and darker feelings. Her sense for the energies of living beings proved invaluable due to her lack of sight, and allows her to tell things about living beings sight cannot, but of course physical features are beyond her. She'll never no what someone "looks" like in a sighted being's sense of the word. In addition, if she had gone any closer to the group gathering near the bar before now, the feelings of so many unfamiliar people at once might have overwhelmed her, and caused her to give a less-than-stellar first impression to her new allies.

She found herself sitting there for a while, but knowing she would not be prodded to get a job and she needed to the coin, took a few deep breath before navigating over to the bar where the others had gathered. She stayed mostly on the edge of the group, while she figured out how to be notified of what jobs were available... she couldn't exactly read them. She noticed a particularly dark, brooding aura of a male hanging around the edges. His very presence was slightly unnerving, as he reeked of the unnatural. He wouldn't be here if he had ill intentions though, or so she hoped. Sighing, and seeing that nearly everyone else was joining another group or head already left on a job, Sai-Iri approached the looming figure. "You there," she called softly, looking at the figures general direction, her lack of sight apperent in the blank look in her eyes. "Looking for a group? I happen to be available. " Her tone was even, not showing the trepidation she had in talking to this man, or to be honest anyone here. The fact that she had just walked over here when she'd been avoiding all contact beforehand made her even more nervous, and she found herself secretly hoping not everyone in the room came to greet her or really reacted to her presence at all, despite thier most likely good intentions.

@shadowz1995

Instantly, as if already highly tuned to her surrounding, Aisha's gaze swept over to look at Cináed. She nodded her head in greeting, "You're human?" She'd already scanned his features, listened to the sounds he'd made and could practically smell the human blood running through his veins. He had no abnormalities there for he was human. "Is this your first Gryphon?" She lifted her head sharply to scan again as if double checking.

Desh turns his head and he sees a girl approaching. Ah the blind one. She smelled particularly good. Something about her though. I feel like I'm being watched and by her strange enough. Seeing but unseeing. Strange. The vampire pushes off the bounty board he was leaning on and takes a few steps in her direction but coming to a stop at a comfortable distance. She seemed wary and went out of her way to avoid the others when Morrigan was giving her speech. She probably only came up to Desh because he was the only one standing by some distance away from the others. She spoke in a very even, polished tone that would make most people think she seemed indifferent but the girl's heartbeat told a different tale.

The vampire cracked a smile and bowed his cloaked head to her (not that she could see the gesture).
"Yes, there is one last bounty on this board here. It's a guard job. Really easy to complete it seems but it requires two people....for some reason. I'm am without a group so yes, I need a companion. The job should be a cakewalk so it's easy money. " The vampire decided to risk looking up for a second to get a good look at her. He slowly let his eyes study her (and appreciate her) and came to the conclusion that she seemed like a magic user. Lucky me. I get a mage to go with my martial arts. This job just got even easier.

@DergTheDergon

Sai'Iri got an uneasy, uncomfortable feeling as the shady-seeming man looked towards her, the feeling of being watched, of being... studied in a rather provocative way. She knew it when she felt it, as nearly everywhere she went with many men among the crowd she felt it. She listened silently and respectfully as the man spoke to her, noting the details within her mind and saying "I see... I suppose I can join you then. What is your name and skill set? I am Sai-Iri, Elven mage." There was a slight hesitation to her even tone now, the way the man was seeming to shamelessly gaze upon her body felt rather unnerving. Thankfully, if she hadn't learned to keep her composure in situations like this she wouldn't be here or have a livelihood at all.. in fact she'd probably be dead.

"Desh Bryo- uh Bryant...Desh Bryant. Pleasure to meet you Sai-Iri. I am a......martial artist. I specialize in unarmed combat but I am also a master swordsman should the situation call for it." The male mentally chastised himself for almost saying his surname aloud. Byron was a well-known name. A family of rich aristocratic vampires with much influence and power. The chances that someone is UNfamiliar with the name is unlikely. The vampire also left out his race for...obvious reasons. People didn't much care for vampires unfortunately. Her tone and increase in heart rate pulled a smile on Desh's face. He always loved hearing the the dancing of a heart as it sped up, trying to get more life into the body. "Well, since our companionship has been established lets not waste anytime. I'd hate to witness you get more nervous Miss Sai-Iri." Desh chuckled.

The ex-paladin frowned. "Miss? Aisha, I believe you said? I'd be a little more concerned about taking on a gryphon if I were you. If you've truly taken one on before, you should know to respect that kind of predator. As big as a wagon, fast as an eagle, and as deadly a predator as either side of its heritage would suggest. For your sake? I'd say take any advantage you can get."

Sai'Iri tilted her head for a moment as he corrected his last name. She swore for a moment that he was about to say "byron." suspicious... very suspicious indeed. She's heard of them, of course... and if he was a vampire that would explain the inhuman way his presence feels. Deciding to brush this aside for now, figuring family ties don't matter as long as the job gets done, Sai'Iri let Desh finish then spoke up politely. "I see... that shall compliment my own skills well, we won't be getting in each other's way... this is good." At Desh's rather witty reply, followed by a chuckle, Sai'Iri's mouth formed a straight line betraying her annoyance, then simply said "Indeed. I am ready to depart if you are." Her uneasiness was beginning to fade, becoming more familiar with this man's strange aura.
