The Sullivans
When Finn and Maggie explained how they had both made decisions which had now led to them being short on cash and in need of a place to stay, Conor listened on. He thought it was a shame Finn had dropped out of medical school and Maggie had turned down a scholarship. He always thought if anyone was going to make good for themselves, it would be one of his cousins or Sinead. Lucy told them they were both welcome to stay at their house and whilst Conor wanted them to have a roof over their head, he feared they would be exposed to all of the shit his family was mixed up in. Regardless, he could never deny his cousins of a home. "We've all done our fair share of fucking up," Conor assured Finn. "You two won't be a bother for us at all. Although, I could use a hand behind the bar at the Emerald. I think Cassie is ready for quitting if she doesn't get a day off soon," he said, looking to Finn as he made his job offer. Regardless of Finn's reply, Conor got up from his seat, rubbing his eyes. "I know it's early, I'm a light weight, blah blah, but I'm going to head up to bed," he announced to his siblings and cousins. "My head's still.... everywhere, really," he struggled to explain. He was just tired and wanted to sleep off his growing headache. "Good night, losers," he said to them, before heading off upstairs.
Even though Lucy looked to her for her approval, Sinead didn't think her word had much weight in the matter, being that she'd only recently moved back into their home. "It's cool with me. The more the merrier!" she said, an excited smile on her face. She figured it would be fun having Maggie and Finn around the place. Besides, the more Sullivans around, the safer she felt.
James listened to the conversation, finishing up his water and then struggling to unscrew the cap on the bottle of alcohol. He was too exhausted to think of any pros and cons of the two staying at the house, plus he felt this was a family matter. As long as they were aware of the dangers that came with being a Sullivan, he really had nothing to say on the matter. "Fuck sake..." he mumbled as he manage to use one hand to open the bottle but then dropped the cap across the kitchen floor.
Those in the kitchen would hear the front door slam shut as Shannon returned home, shoving her car keys in her pocket. She heard voices coming from the kitchen and headed straight there, the heels of her boots clicking loudly across the wooden hallway. "Alright. Whose blood is on my front door?" her firm voice echoed before she'd even stepped into the kitchen. When she did enter the room, she saw Lucy, Sinead, Carrick, Maggie, Finn, and James. She saw the blood on Lucy and then looked to James who was the bloodiest of the two.
"Sorry, that will have been me," James grumbled. He again attempted to get up so he could go clean the door, but he gave in to the pain and remained seated. "Couldn't help it, Mrs Sullivan," he apologetically told her.
"I've had a shitty day and Emmet won't be coming back for a few days yet, so I'm still in charge of this house. Please tell me the Romanos aren't at it again and I don't have to worry about this house falling apart in your father's absence," she said, looking mostly to Lucy as the mature one. "Where's Conor?!" she suddenly asked, hoping the answer didn't involve any of the words: dead, prison or hospital..
It might have seemed like Shannon was completely oblivious to the presence of her niece and nephew, but she wasn't. She just chose the order in which she wished to address matters around her. "Magdeline and Finnian!" she said, giving each of them a quick hug. "To what do we owe this pleasure? I wish I'd known you were visiting - I wouldn't have tried to be home sooner."
