"You're right, I do get to go out with the lads. Although, I wouldn't recommend you go out with Conor and attempt to keep up with him. It's not worth it for the hangover the next day. It put me off drinking for a time after my last night out with him!"
James smiled as Lucy squeezed his hand and spoke charmingly about the back massage. He'd spent most of the last ten years shutting people out and ignoring his emotions. He'd never met a woman who interested him enough to want to commit to for long and that made it easy for him to be distant with everyone. Lucy was different. Even as he stood speaking with her, he could feel his feelings growing for her and he didn't even want to consider denying them. He had fallen for her so deeply and he was surprised to find he had no intention of fighting it. "Oh, don't you worry, I will certainly be collecting," he told her.
With mention of the meeting Shannon had been demanding, James let out a apprehensive sigh. "I don't know, Lucy. I can see your mother wants to get everyone on the same page and bring the family back together. I don't doubt she will do her hardest to make it happen. She's a determined woman and I'm certain she will unite you guys," he began, glancing to the floor as his usually confident tone carried with it a very rare vulnerability. "Emmet hasn't been the same around me since that night and he doesn't have to say anything for me to know he's pissed off with me. I'm not sure how I'm going to redeem myself and get him to trust me again."
