Futuristic The Mobile Infantry

I'm going with 4 as well. An eye like that should turn out to be useful in all sorts of situations.

Option 4 won with 4 vote(s).

You debated over the options and finally went with a bionic eye that scans and provides technical readouts.

After all, knowledge is power right ?

The Marine medical division didn't waste anytime.

The moment you chose your option in the operating room in front of a holographic menu, you were given sleeping gas and operated on as they removed your right eye to replace it with a bionic eye.

The operation took 10 hours , but finally it was completed without any complications.

As you were operated on, you had some extremely odd yet lucid dreams.

You dreamt that you were a hero who had a white digivice who saved the world from certain destruction with ... what was his name ?

Some white building tall being that fought beside you.

Along with some other people... Taiki and that loud red annoying dragonish creature and.. Aonuma  and.... some girl whose name you forgot ?!?!

That white building that fought along side with you was....Omni... something.....Omnimon !

You didn't believe that he was a mech, but rather he was a digimon ???

But before you could do anything you woke up.

After one entire day, you awakened from a deep sleep.

Unlike the other times, you didn't feel any excruciating pain, nor were you mentally fatigued.

As you blinked a few times, adjusting to the bright lights of the room, you heard something else power up , heard like it was coming from YOU.

You saw your room, but there was something... that was added to the room .

As you looked around the room, you saw technical dates ,specs and names pop up next to anything that was remotely mechanical .

THAT is something you were going to have to get used to....eventually .

After a few more months of more training, you eventually adjusted to the cybernetic eye and it seemed to be a useful implant.

At least it helped you appear far more intelligent then you normally were, and you were great to have around when anything computerized went awry .

You eventually proved your self again in training to earn command of a squad.

A squad of mobile infantry , 24 strong, would be commanded by you.

You thought you would get the first call to battle when you saw most of your battle brothers and even some of the raw trainees get pulled away earlier on this week for some unknown mission, but the call never came so you kept on training with your squad.

A week would pass before you would indeed get the call to respond to an emergency .

Earlier on today , Empire Central Command had decided to choose your squad , the 777th MI to go to  Fuclion .

Fuclion  is a human world that lies on the extreme edge of the solar empire.

The inhabited world lies on the very edge of the Sirius star system.

The planet supports a single colony of a few thousand settlers.

Command chatter as well as interstellar trade channels and FTL internet were all cut off immediately , two weeks ago.

During the briefing it became clear to you that :

No one knew what was going on .

As you listened to Lieutenant-Colonel Smith giving out the briefing you wondered if this was a mission that was going to end up very, very badly from the get go.

The usual filler such as the population size, who was the leader of that planet, and the politics and all were brought up.

Yet, there was not a single word about the enemy.

You felt a cold invisible wind blast your skin despite the humid heat that vibrated off of the walls of the briefing room.

After the briefing, you asked the Lieutenant-Colonel if there would be any additional reinforcements and why only one squad would be sent to deal with whatever was going on in Fuclion.

Smith replied with concern in his voice , " Lieutenant Rico , unfortunately ECC ( Empire Central Command ) can NOT spare any more platoons or squads even.

Just the past week, we've had to quell an uprising in the Sol sector we've had to send most of our battle ready units there , your squad is the only unit that is battle ready that can handle this mission.

Lieutenant Rico,  we simply do not have the man power to respond to anything else.

In fact your lucky your not battling it out on the front lines with your brothers on Io and Titan , Fuclion should be easy to handle . "

Despite the icy ball that formed in your stomach, you saluted and then walked off into the  The Cassanra .

The Cassanra is a light star ship class Imperial vessel.

The ship is barely equipped to do much except to transport troops safely across Empire space.

By going into this under-equipped light transport starship , proved unfortunately that Lieutenant-Colonel Smith wasn't lying .

If the Imperial Fleet is down to just using light star ships to respond to emergencies, then the fighting on Io and Titan must be incredibly vicious to pull that many units from this sector .

As walked inside to the ship, your squad stood up to attention and saluted you .

You acknowledged their salutes with yours and told them to be as they were.

You then strode into the ship's armory and decided to suit up .

For this mission , you have four different Power Armor Variants to choose from.

Which one do you want ?

  1. Alpha -- The standard, well balanced model. This model has the most armor.
  2. Beta -- Reduced armor for greater stealth .
  3. Gamma - Slightly reduced armor with increased close combat capabilities.
  4. Omega -- Elite model with thin plating and sleek profile. Its great for vets and for proving what you are made of.

Alpha. We don't even know what our team is capable of yet, so it's better to be at full-power in case we need to pick up some slack. Also, it's a good choice since we don't know what awaits us on this mission, so it's better to be all-rounded rather than risk being incapable to do a task we need to do.

1. I'm also choosing Alpha, since that's probably the model which we'd have the most experience with.

Gamma. I can stomach a little less armor for better strike power. Never know when you'll need it. Little less weight doesn't hurt either.

Option 1 , won with 4 vote(s).

You look around at the four armors and debate on what to choose.

The greyish hulk of the Alpha Armor certainly sticks out as it has the most armor ,

while the Beta armor seems to have some kind of reflective camouflage in addition to its slim build , thus it seems to " blend " in with the room around it .

Your eyes move on to the Gamma armor , which is a greenish suit with a copperish visor and two massive gauntlets , slimmer then the Alpha Armor still, but the massive gauntlets make it bigger then the Beta armor.

The Omega armor however, looks odd seemingly out of place, its the slimmest piece of armor but its a purpleish colored unit, with two massive light green / black  shoulder fins , a samuraiish type helm with golden eyes and streaks of green across its arms and legs.

The Omega unit looks familiar oddly .... You recall watching a show before going off to bootcamp a few years ago but.... was it an Eva .... no it couldn't be an Eva-01 unit.

You pause and wonder about taking the Omega armor , but then you resolve to pick the Alpha armor instead.

After all, your a professional marine, not some trainee named Shinji Ikari with some wild ideas.

You clamp on your armor, piece after piece sealing its self automatically into place.

As you do so you hear the chatter just outside of the room .

" So I have this green bird I'm taking care of . I don't know what it is, my girl left it for me she said it was a lucky pet for her , so I should have it to keep me alive. "

" Green bird? Shouldn't that be a parrot or one of those parakeets ? "
" Nope, i don't think parrots have that look to them. And aren't parakeets blue ?"

" Well,  don't talk to me about pets I have no idea what to do about 'em ."

" Your folks owned a pet shop, you sure you don't know what to do  ? "

" Come on Bobby , your always talking about your girl and her issues and all, how about we talk about the latest episode in Game of Thrones, you saw what happened to Jon Snow right ?"
" Nope , did they reveal why he's not the son to.... what's his name again?? Stormblessed ? Naw that couldn't be it" .
But before there is any reply, you hear your squad sergeant shout out to the two marines .
" Hey you ladies, cut the gossip, we have a mission to prep for , this isn't any time for some idle chit chat ! "  .

The two marines quickly double time it down to the hangar bay , with your sergeant barking out orders after them.

As you resume to strap on the power armor, the parts are heavy, but when the Power Armor comes together as a whole unit, the weight seems to disappear as all the powered systems begin to work together.

When the Power Armor is complete, you can feel its weight and bulk, but no more so than a regular heavy space suit.

A marine core technician walks through the door and sees you in your battle armor salutes  and remarks.

" Lieutenant , looks like your fully suited up and ready to go . Let me attach this device on to your back ."
You return the salute ,then turn around and  grunt as you feel an additional 20 lbs added on to your back and you hear something else power up as you inquire.
" What did you put on my back ?"

" Oh, you remember the times where we revived you after you've died several times during the augmentation process ? " the marine tech suggests.
You nod solemnly, wishing to forget about the incidents , but your mind wouldn't let it go .

" Well, you ever notice anything, different when they brought you back to the land of the living, sir ? " , as the marine tech continues.

You tilt your head , trying to remember .

You remember that , when you died from the shock of the pain that occurred right after they took you off of the X-morphine .

The withdrawal was so powerful that your body went into shock after your senses were flooded with pain from your knees ,ribs and spinal cord due to the reductive fracturing .

After you had woken up, it seemed that ... oddly, no one noticed that you had actually DIED.

Rather it felt like.... deja vu and you had to repeat the process over again.

At the time you thought it was just a cruel mind game that the core had been testing out as one of their mental " tests" .

But now your not so sure.

" Well sir, after the first round of augmentations,  elite marines , your self included are the chosen few who could use a sub-celestial harness " , the marine tech continues.
" Basically, a sub-celestial harness links your armor to this moment in space and time.  "
" If you should happen to die, then the system activates and your consciousness gets pushed backwards in time to RIGHT now. Makes sense ?

You blink, and wordlessly nod your head amazed that there is technology of this scale that's being used currently within the Mobile infantry. Even if it is the 30th century .

The tech smiles and adds , " I've heard that they can be confusing, as your reliving your past events again . "

" This device can only be used three times, to which if you have died, a fourth time, your mind would be too weakened to pull through that time warp again. "

" So be careful sir about what you are planning to do. Do not tell anyone about this or they can terminate you instantly through your augmentations should word of this gets out.  "

You nod wordlessly at this, as your mind tries to take in this new development all at once.

The tech salutes and then exits the area .

You lock your helmet on, and with a sealing hiss everything goes silent for a moment.

But then sound comes rushing back as your helmet's pickups adjust.

Through your helmet , you see green friendly icons , radar , squad status and HUD all pop up along with technical data from your cybernetic eye as you walk to the launch bay .

The hanger is prepped and ready with steam billowing out of the side vents in the area.

Stepping into the hanger bay, you see that the inside walls are packed with MI  belted in and staring at you , wide eyed.

What do you say to your squad ?

  1. Troops! This mission is important !  I WILL NOT STAND FOR FAILURE !  Some of you will not come back alive - in fact you there, Shmuel, I'm pretty sure you won't come back alive !  Now LETS DO THIS !
  2. This is my first mission, and I'm not sure what's going to happen, but let's just have a good time, alright ? Just try to win .
  3. Your a sorry lot  I can't believe I am leading these bunch of children. Don't get in my way, I'll do all the work for you ladies.
  4. Do your jobs, that's all i expect and nothing else more or less.
  5. Troops, this mission is important. I know you've been briefed. I trust you. remember your training and you WILL come back alive .
  6. Failure will result in one thing, death . Actually, sergeant choose BobbyW to die now, as an example for this squad.

IT'S A ME, BIRDIE-O

Option 5. I'm very sure our men are frightened or suffering from nerves. We can't make light of their lives, or they will not trust us or respect our command. We cannot act like this mission is just a sports game, but rather we must treat it with the attitude it deserves. While some of our men may respond positively to Rico talking down to them, that's a tactic a drill sergeant would use. It's slightly efficient, and it unites the soldiers, but it unites them against the leader. We cannot have that. Option 5 is very similar to 4, but unlike 4, 5 gives our men hope to see the next sunrise. It also shows that we respect our men.

Oh my gosh! 5. The rest are hilarious or mean. :P

Aw it, people can't die right away can't they ? :P

 No wait a second,  I can't harm humans, I'm a digimon O.o .......

Guess I'll have to do it the old way.... via plotting and planning and..... NO PLOT DEVICES ! .... O.o O.o 0.0 .. I hope :P

Yay, I made the story! And yes Shinji was given a giant mech in a battle for the future of mankind, his whining is invalid.

Option 5. As much as they could be considered canon fodder compared to me, treating them that way is cruel and counterproductive. Someone has to actually hold all the land I'll be taking or the war will never end.

Cannon fodder ? I thought they weren't inside an eva-01 unit :P

I mean, number 5

But omg can you imagine Rico saying #3 or #6? Lolol

Sure why not ? O.o someone could just go off the rails.......

True enough O.o ... So i guess your really one lucky bird for that marine :P   . No wonder the squad has confidence !  And to think its Rico....or maybe it is O.o ....or both !

" Troops, this mission is important. I know you've been briefed. I trust you. remember your training and you WILL come back alive ."  You say this with conviction  while scanning each squad member's face.

Your not one to mince words, so you keep it short  and simple.

Your words have an immediate affect.

Seems like everyone's nervousness is replaced with aura of confidence.

Everyone looks confident even those who have had more experience nod their head in approval .

They look determined, and ready .

You in return feel elated and you feel like you can trust them to do their part .

Well, time to see what you and your squad are made of !

With everyone ready to go, you step down to the ramp and head for your drop pods .

Everyone walks confidently, even though this part of the mission is fairly risky .

At the front of the launch bay you step into a bulky tube set into the wall.

Metal arms reach out and grip your suit, and with the grinding sound of powerful hydraulics you hear the tube clamping its self shut around you.

You with your Power Armor barely fit into the tube, and you can't move.

This part is always something you disliked intensely during training , the feeling that you were unable to do anything while in this state.

Then you feel yourself being lowed through he deck of the ship, down into the darkness.

You know what's going on after all, this is a large part of the " Mobile " part of being the MI , Mobile Infantry .

You don't fly down and land on planets, you get fired, planetside at them, like a bullet from space.

To keep your mind occupied while you wait, you think over the mission.

At 0500 local time , just before dawn, you and your team will land in the area of a large power station complex.

In fact, this is THE power station , for the entire planet .

There are only a few thousand colonists on the world, but there's a lot of machinery that this station powers.

You have been ordered to keep this station intact at ALL COSTS. This is your primary objective.

Your team will land in the general vicinity of the area of the power station with you.

Empire Intel indicates that by the time you land, there shouldn't be too many civilians in the area.

That is, if Empire Intel is correct . This information is well over two weeks old , and no one had accurate information .

Because of the information void, your secondary objective is to collect Intel.

As it is Empire Intel barely has any information with the current situation on Fuclion.

Rumours suggested that there had been some talk about the rebellion staging a coup  in this area of the star system.

Fuclion's on the extreme outer edges of the empire, but it sits on a vital resource that the Empire needed to fuel its massive fleet, now battling it out with the rebels at the massive shipyards at Io and Titan.

It makes sense after all , if the rebels were able to stage a coup on Io and Titan ,and they were able to secure the resources needed to fuel their fleets AND at the same time deprive the empire of their resources.

You wonder who set this plan in motion , its intricate, elaborate and most of all frightening as they understood exactly how to attack the empire and weaken it from within  .

This rebellion is unlike any of the other rebellions to which only single planets rebelled, this was a multi sector uprising .

If the rebels won here , they would be victorious at Io and Titan and then who knows what would happen .

The next  Galactic Civil War would take place , you read about the history about the last galactic war, the civil  war that crowned the current Emperor  and shuddered.

These major events, the rebel take overs of the galactic shipyards at Titan and Io along with the fall of Fuclion could be the first steps to an all out civil war.

Would they really risk the lives of TRILLIONS of people for another civil war ?

Sure there had been issues with the Emperor , but you thought that most of them were resolved due to the civil war , after all it took place 42 years ago !

You stiffened your resolve and destroyed any other lingering doubts you had.

If the rebels weren't stopped here, your battle brothers on Io and Titan would be facing up against rebel ships without any Imperial fleet to back them up.

Power Armor or not , even with Elite marines  that is a battle that will not be won, it'll just end up a slaughter house.

Only YOU  can stop these ugly events from unfolding, and save the lives of billions if not trillions from the madness that was sweeping the empire.

In spite of the severity of the events that were occurring , you still needed to do your job.

You'll need to lead your squad  to assault the Power station, secure it , gather Intel  and then wait for your instructions.

OOC: I will post the rest  of this reply within 1-4 hours of this posting.

After landing, your job is to scout out the settlement secure the power station and assess the situation .

You have been given full authority on the ground for this mission.

Once you have secured the power station and gathered Intel , you are to report back to the Cassanra.

Your CO ( Commanding Officer ) , Lieutenant-Colonel Smith , did ask you to preserve as much of the settlement as possible.

The settlers will need it to get back to their lives as quickly as possible .

Also as this world is vital to the empire's resources , claiming Fuclion again for the Empire would help with the on going uprising in the Sol sector.

Destroying too much might hurt the empire more then hurting the rebels.

How heavy a hand you use, is up to you.

These colonists might have sided with the rebellion , or they might be idiots following a religious radical .

It's up to your discretion in how you handle things.

You are the one who has to live with yourself - the Empire simply wants its world back !

You feel your drop pod shudder, stop suddenly, and then your stomach is in your throat as the pod is launched from the Cassanra.

This is nothing like free fall - free fall is easier  to endure then this .

You are literally a living fleshy being encased in an exosuit made of cobalt and iron in  an nano-reinforced titanium shell.

Even though you've gone through this situation time and time again, you never get used to the feeling.

Despite this, you feel queasy , you feel like your going to die an awful death, you feel like your going to black out.

Despite the awful feelings, you steel yourself to the task at hand, after all your an ELITE MARINE  of the MI .

You had already been put through hell , and you've even tasted death a few times.

Your body's implants kick in and counter the queasiness and the  G forces that increase as you hurl towards the ground.

Your HUD which blinks a lethal friendly green, suddenly starts to go crazy .

Something is jamming the radar, the communications between your squad and even the ship.

The only thing you have that works remotely is your cybernetic eye and the status of your squad.

All 24 are still alive , for now at least.

Damn , so the colonists have joined the rebellion.

This is going to be a hot drop, which means you'll be fighting right from the get go, which is then confirmed nano-seconds later.

Within nano-seconds you start hearing soft ping ping noises , which means that planetary defensive fire is firing on your drop pod.

Suddenly the drop pod rocks violently as you feel it veering off course a split second later , you feel the impact of the drop pod upon the ground.

A large " BOOM" echos through the drop pod, but your suit's audio cuts out to protect your ears from going deaf .

You  don't waste any time and immediately wrestle the door open expecting a dozen rifles aimed at you and angry expressions.

As you fling the door of the ruined drop pod away , you saw that your in the center of a large smoking crater, alone.

Twisted metal and rebar jut from the scorched earth, chunks of stone and shards of glass are still raining down from the sky.

Well, looks like there isn't a welcoming party and fortunately your suit and the rest of you are intact.

You don't see anyone around in the vicinity , looks like you veered off course after taking that heavy hit to the drop pod earlier on.

You try the coms again only to find that there's only static and part of your HUD is still acting up .

At least the rest of the squad is fine, you see that all 24 from the HUD display are still alive inspite of the defensive fire.

What do you do now ?

  1. With a blast from your Power Armor's boosters, you leap up out of the pit and into the sky, to get a good look around.
  2. You use a quick burst from your Power Armor's boosters, to hop up to the edge of the crater, and take a look around.
  3. You stop still and listen for anything you can catch, while using your Power Armor's other sensors to sweep from within the crater.
