The New Boy Wonder
"I think we've got something!" A man with a huge black beard screamed shouted to bye others on the fishing vessel. A group of galoshes and waders ran over to the side of the boat and looked over. There was something struggling in the net. It kinda looked like a dolphin.

"We've got a dolphin! Pull it up men! Quick! We have to get it free and throw it back!"

The men grabbed the cords connected to the giant net in the water. The dolphin started squirming violently as it was pulled from yen water. The fisherman almost let go of the cord, luckily they didn't. As the men tugged and pulled they realized it wasn't a dolphin in the net. Finally the net flopped onto the deck and the creature in the net thrashed violently. Upon further inspection it wasn't a dolphin. It looked more like a human. No....it wasn't a human it had the tail of a fish.

"What the hell is that thing?!" One of the men asked. Another of the fisherman pulled out his cellphone and started to record the thrashing creature in the net.

Caspian was definitely panicking when he felt the net start to pull up. They had originally caught a baby dolphin and not every human put them back. He had wanted to save it. Unfortunately he got caught instead. He tried swimming down to break the net. It wasn't working. He couldn't pull it apart. Before he was too far from the bottom, he grabbed an old dagger. The humans were sailing over a shipwreck and the thing happened to be near. He was being pulled to the surface, despite his best efforts to get away. 'I am dead! I am so, so dead!' He shouldn't have stopped. He should have kept swimming. This was not what he needed right now.

He landed on something solid, but he still couldn't get out of the net. The humans could see him. He knew they could. He took the dagger he'd grabbed and tried to cut himself free, not looking at the humans. In the process of getting out, he cut himself several times. Mostly due to the fact he was shaking from fear and his tail was still thrashing about. Finally he was free. He didn't waste a moment or think about the humans, he somehow was off of the ship and back in the water.

He swam. He swam fast. He ended up in a cove, the dagger still in his grip. Blood mixed with water from the cuts and his tail hurt. He had to get out of the water. He pulled himself up into the dry part in the cove and looked at his tail. He couldn't swim with it so hurt.

Christoper pulled up to the beach the next morning at sunrise. He loved coming out to swim here. The water was warm and the location was close up his house. He hopped out of his jeep and grabbed his beach towel off the front seat. He looked up and smiled at the sunrise and wandered down onto the beach. He laid his towel down flat on the sand and kicked off his flip flops. He breathed in the cool morning air and unzipped his black and blue poke dotted hoodie. His muscular chest and toned abs now exposed to the world. He didn't have to go anywhere anytime soon so he decided to walk down the beach check out the coves. It was low tides and the morning, he didn't have to worry about getting stuck. Plus he wouldn't be in there for very long, or he thought.

Christopher wandered down into the dark musky cave and heard the water,"plunk" as he stepped into the cove. He saw something moving in the black darkness towards the back.

"Hello? Is anyone here? Are you ok?" He asked into the darkness.

Caspian's luck was running out. The night wet on and he slowly started to dry. It took a long time though, as he was thoroughly soaked from the ocean. It was just as he heard something that he was nearly dry. A human walked into the cove and he panicked. Would he be mean? Was he going to hurt Caspian? He had been raised to believe humans were cruel, despite his curiosity.

He started to back away from the walking shadow, his tail dragging in the sand. Then it happened. He was completely dry. Something started to change and it hurt. Horribly. He fell into his side as a sound of pure agony ripped from his throat. The threat of a human the least worrisome thing on his mind. The pain seemed to ease before he tried opening his eyes.

That was when he saw them. "What?" He reached his hands out to touch the two things that replaced his tail. Legs?! He had human legs!? He tried to move them a bit, to see if they worked.

A hurt cry left his mouth. Moving the legs seemed to hurt. Why did it hurt so much. Then he remembered the human who had entered. Caspian tried to drag himself further away. He was at a disadvantage. He had lost a good amount of blood - not enough to be fatal though. All he had was a dull dagger and it hurt to move human legs that he shouldn't have. He though for sure he would die.

Christopher moved closer towards the back of the cave. He kept seeing the figure moving back each time he took a step closer.

"Don't be a afraid...I won't hurt you. Honest. Are you hurt? Do you need help?" Chris asked taking another step.

His feet ended up stepping in wet sand. He was getting deeper into the cave and he didn't like it, he'd never climbed this deep into one. There were these legends in town that in caves like this some evil fish monster lived in them and killed and ate little children and adventures since the late 1800s. Sure Chris didn't believe in it but the cave was starting to creep him out a little, but he kept moving forward. That's when he saw Caspian. Caspian was beautiful. Messy short red hair, shorter than Chris by at least 3 inches, and his body. Caspian's frame was so skinny and little it was adorable, but something was off about his body. Caspian had no clothes on and was holding a dagger tightly in his left fist. Christopher saw cuts on the boy's legs and he wondered if they where self inflected. He didn't know what to say so he said the first thing that came into his head,"Sup."

Caspian had nowhere to hide and the human was getting closer. He tried to make himself smaller without moving the human legs too much. Of course hoping to not be seen was too much. He didn't know what to do as the human saw him clear. He thought this human was rather pretty, but he still didn't think he could be trusted. Then he spoke again. 'Sup?' What is that supposed to mean?

Caspian raise the dagger a bit, although it was obvious he was afraid. The dagger shook in his hand and clasping his other one onto it didn't help. "S-Stay b-back." His voice was soft and it shook almost as much as the trembling dagger. Would the human listen? Or would he still move closer? Caspian wanted to trust him, not that he knew why, but he couldn't let his guard down.

After a moment he was stupid enough to try and move the legs again, with the intention of trying to stand. He was vulnerable in his position on the ground. Sharp pain shot up his leg like lightning. Caspian dropped the dagger and pulled the legs closer, as if that would make the pain got away. He couldn't do anything with the way he was now. He was too weak to swim, it was painful to try moving the newly discovered legs. He needed help, he wasn't stupid.

"Pl-Please help me." He begged quietly. As much as human help put him on edge, he couldn't do this alone. This human looked kind enough. As long as he didn't find out what he was.

Christopher kept his cool wayne boy held up the dagger. He raised his arms up showing that he meant no harm. Then Caspian tried to stand and his body immediately buckled out from under him. The boy fell, in pain. He dropped his dagger and looked at Chris. His piercing eyes begging for someone to help him as he asked for it,"Pl-Please help me."

Christopher took off his hoodie and wrapped it around the naked boy covering him.

"Do you think you can stand?" Chris asked ready to carry the boy to his jeep if necessary.

Caspian stiffened as the human wrapped something around him. He didn't want to trust him just yet, but he had no choice. It was let the man help him or likely be stuck here until a worse human came along. And the hoodie was warm after spending the night cold and wet. When asked about standing, Caspian tried to stand again. Pain shot through the legs again and tears sprung to his eyes.

Caspian shook his head a bit. "N-No." There was pain in his voice. Why did the legs hurt so much? He didn't think human legs hurt humans. Not to mention the cuts were still bleeding slowly.

"Ok...then I guess I'll just have to carry you," Christopher said wrapping his arms around Caspian. He tucked his arm under the back Caspian's knees and wrapped his other arm around Caspian's back. He held Caspian in his arms, the boy was pretty light and easy to carry. His legs were soft and smooth against Christopher's forearms. The boy also smelled good, like the beach. Caspian felt the boy's soft hair against his left pec. Christopher held Caspian tightly to his chest and carried him out of the cave to his jeep.

Caspian didn't know what he was doing. He tried to back away until he was being lifted up. Caspian couldn't get out of his grip and now he had no choice but to go wherever he was being taken. "W-Where are you taking me?" He sounded scared. He looked back at the ground where he had just been, seeing the dagger there. He shouldn't have dropped it. He didn't know if he'd need it. What if he needed it? What if someone attacked him? He couldn't just be completely defenseless.

Christopher felt Caspian squirm in his arms. Chris didn't let go his grip held firm. He could tell the boy was scared, nervous, or both. "What was he doing in that cave?" Christopher thought to himself,"Why was he naked? And who had cut him? Had he done them himself?"

Christopher waked up the beach and was close to his jeep when the boy asked where Chris was taking him.

"I'm taking you home. You need to get something on those cuts...and you need some clothes other than my hoodie," Christopher answered.

Caspian continued to try to get away. He wanted help, but he couldn't help but feel scared. However, he couldn't get out of his arms. His heart was pounding very hard and his head hurt. "A...Are you going to hurt me?" He was taught from a young age that humans would only hurt them if they found out merpeople existed. It didn't occur to him that maybe he hadn't seen his tail. He had still been shrouded in darkness before it disappeared.

Christopher continues holding Caspian not letting go. He new the boy was afraid. He was shaking and it wasn't from the morning breeze.

"I'm not gonna hurt you. I promise," Christopher said aloud,"I'm taking you home to get you fed, clothes, and clean out your wounds. I promise you don't have to be afraid of me. I'm not a monster. I swear."

Christopher arrived at his Jeep. He laid Caspian along the back seat, his sweatshirt barely covering anything but Caspian's upper half. He went to the trunk and opened his duffle for water polo. He pulled out his "uniform" (all it was was a blue speedo with the word dolphins written in white block letters along the butt). He went over to Caspian and handed the swim brief to him.

"Please...put this on. You're kinda hot and all but I don't want your man junk in my face every time I look at you," Christopher said with a slight nervous chuckle.

Caspian tried not to panic, but he was being taken so far from the sea. So far from home. He knew he wouldn't have been able to stay home, he would have had to swim far away, safe from the war. He didn't want to be so far from it. What if he couldn't get back? What if Christopher found out and made sure he never went back, keeping him prisoner?

Then he was laid inside some huge contraption. He'd been to the surface and knew these things moved fast, but he didn't know what it was. He also didn't know what the thing was that Christopher handed to him. Although humans did wear the clothing, that was normal. After a moment of trying to figure out how it was worn. Human clothes were weird. It hurt terribly to put on, but he bit his lip, making no noise.

Why did it hurt to move his legs so much? Surely it couldn't be just the cuts? Yes, some of them were a bit deeper than surface cuts, but they weren't that bad. There was just a lot of them.

Christopher chuckled a little as Caspian tried to figure out how to wear the speedo. It was funny how a boy around his age was acting like a curious toddler. It was like this boy didn't know about the world he lived in. Christopher immediately stopped chuckling when he saw the pain on Caspian's face as he moved his legs. He wondered why the boy had such a problem with that. Maybe he was sheltered and never taught to walk? No, that didn't make sense. If he couldn't walk how did he end up in the cave? Maybe it was the cuts but to Christopher they didn't even look that bad. The boy was curious, nervous, and adorable as all hell. He just wanted to pinch Caspian's cheeks and snuggle in the truck. But what would be the point of that? The boy was probably straight or even if he was attracted to guys he probably wouldn't find Christopher love able.

Caspian felt his face get red when Christopher chuckled. Was it because he didn't know how you were supposed to wear the thing he'd been given? It wasn't his fault. Merpeople had no need for clothes. Plus, he had no legs to wear something like this. Was it really his fault? Then he stopped laughing. With one look at Christopher's face, Caspian knew it wasn't normal. The pain in his legs wasn't something humans felt. Unless they felt it since birth and they were just used to it by the time they were Christopher's age. However old he was. Then he realized he didn't even know his name. "W-What's your name?" He asked quietly. He couldn't just call him 'the human' all the time. That would be way beyond suspicious.

Christopher loved seeing the shy innocence in this boy. He liked shy quirky guys, especially cute ones (like the one in his backseat). He was more dominant and he always wanted to help and take care of others. It was just something with him. He put on Caspian's seat belt for him and smiled at the boy.

"I'm Christopher...but I like being called Chris." Christopher said extending his hand for a shake,"What should I call you?"

Caspian seemed to take time in internalizing then name. There weren't many mermen named Chris. "Caspian." His voice was still unsure, as if he shouldn't even tell him that much. After another moment, he finally understood why Chris held his hand out. He reached out his own to shake his, hoping he did it right. He knew it was polite to say 'it's nice to meet you,' but Caspian could think of nicer.

"Nice to meet you Caspian,"Christopher said.

He smiled when Caspian took his hands when they exchanged a quick handshake. Christopher didn't want to seem too desperate. So he gave Caspian a small, shy smile and headed around the car. He hopped in the driver's seat of the jeep and he turned to Caspian. The keys to the jeep were in one of the pockets of his hoodie on Caspian.

"Caspian...you have the keys," Christopher said extending his hand for them.

Caspian was confused at the handshake. He didn't know what it was or how to react. Then Christopher moved and got in the car himself. Once more he was confused when Christopher mentioned keys. Not that he didn't know what keys were. Merpeople had keys. He just didn't know why Christopher needed any. Keys were for doors. Right? He felt something in the pocket and pulled it out. He assumed they were the keys that he was looking for. Shyly he held them out.

He wanted to ask why he needed keys, but he wondered if it was normal for humans. He didn't want to give himself away. So saying nothing was best.

Christopher couldn't help but smile at Caspian's awkward curiosity. It was adorable. He had to stop himself from

hopping over the seat and tickling the boy. He took the keys from Caspian's open hand,"Thank you Caspian."

Christopher pulled on his seatbelt and inserted the keys into the ignition. The car motor started with a quiet rumble and Christopher put the car in reverse backing out of the parking space before putting it back into drive and heading to his beachside home.

"You're welcome." Not that Caspian really thought he did anything that Christopher should thank him for. Then the car turned on and Caspian gasped quietly. Where was the noise coming from? Was that the car? Caspian tensed as it started to move. How was he doing that? Then Caspian looked out of the window, eyes wide as the scenery passed by him. They were going to fast. He was used to going fast as he could swim with almost lightning speed if he had to, but this was totally different.

Christopher drove his black jeep home to the beachside home where he and his mother lived. He thanked God that she was at work and wouldn't see him bringing a mostly naked boy in the house...especially a boy in HIS speedo! She'd flip her whole lit.

The house wasn't far from the beach by car and Christopher was able to get home within 10 minutes. He pulled into his driveway and pulled the key from the ignition.

He got out of the car and opened the back door and undid Caspian's seatbelt.

Caspian continued to watch out of the window of the jeep. Everything was moving so fast! Caspian didn't get a good look at anything. Despite it being against the laws of his people, he was always slightly curious about the human world. There was just so much mystery. Caspian was a complete sucked for mystery. It wasn't that long until Christopher stopped the car by one of the human homes. Caspian looked up at it. It was so different from his Home.

It seemed so....sharp. That was the word. Caspian's home didn't have so many corners and edges like that. He flinched for a moment before he realized that Christopher was just taking off the thing he'd placed around him. A safety device probably.

Christopher picked up Caspian like he had done along the beach. The boy was still light as a feather. He was skinny and must have weighed no more than 115 pounds max. He held the boy tightly in his grip as he walked up the porch and to yen front door. He was pretty positive he left it unlocked. He lived in a small beach town, everyone knew everyone and the crime rate was very, very low. Since his arms were full carrying Caspian he couldn't open the door himself.

"Caspian do you want to the open door for me? My arms are a little," he said with an odd smile.
