Futuristic The League of Mutants

Talon led the way sniffing the air before jumping down and hovering near the rope towards the herbs in the lobby opening. Upon reaching them he sat down and waited.

"I must be going now though. Excuse me and have a good time." Skyler excused herself from the people dinning and climbed down the rope, silently

Issac opened his eyes and realized he wanted to get comfy before going to sleep. So he went to his bag and took out a jackect, and started jumping to the piece of metal sticking out over the lobby. Once he reached there he put the large jacket over him, and left his eyes open. This was sleep for him, for he mostly slept during the day. Issac could and probably was gunna stay up all night like this unless something else happened....He was hoping nothing would.

Joseph stood up and came out from his room, Nightcrawler on his shoulder. The sun hurt his eyes, and the air smelled like the decaying flesh of people, dead people.

He remembered.

Everyone he knew was dead. No more Tommy "gun" Charleston, no more "slithering" Larry. They were all gone. And now he had a shortage of wares to dispute to this group. How could this possible be worse? As he thought that, a bird shat in front of him, well he was almost hit, if it were not for his reflexes. "Great." Joseph said to himself in a raspy voice of a heavy smoker. Joseph opened his jacket a bit, and took out a pack of cigarettes. With one swift motion he had opened the pack, thrown one cigarette into the air, and caught it with his mouth. He holstered the pack, his last one, he reminded himself of. With his other hand he grabbed his black lighter, and turned on the cigarette. The smoke from the cigarette, mixed with the air of the city, filled his lungs. It was a great feeling, it heated his body from within, it made him feel almost as alive as when he was free of this apocalypse.

Shortly after the cigarette was reduced to a small stump, barely any of the filter left either. He had to enjoy it until he burned his lips. And that he had done many a time. His lips were scarred by the burn marks, left by cigarettes. But now he had other worries. He had to find some goods, something to sell. One must make a living, even in these times he thought to himself.

He then had a bright idea. He had to establish a currency. So far the trading system was ok, but he had lots of food, so getting more was no problem. He had to make something rare a value. To think better he reached for another cigarette, when a bright light struck. Cigarettes and liquor. He had seen sparse amount of cigarettes the last couple of years due to government anti-smoking campaigns and so most producers had gone out of business. But there were still cigarettes out there, but only a small amount. And he had seen little alcohol around, maybe he could set that as a higher currency depending on their percentage.

He thought long, considering cons and pros, and eventually agreed with himself. Cigarettes and liquor it was, now he just needed to set the prices. And get some better goods. People had to want his things before they would begin using currency. Only thing was he had to stop smoking. That was gonna be tricky, but if he wanted this done he had to sacrifice something. And in the end, if he had a lot of cigarettes, it would only be wise to increase their value by smoking some to decrease the amount of cigarettes in circulation.

Yes this was brilliant, he only had to find the goods, and soon he would have customers, and then, when he had become rich, he would have become powerful, for sitting on top of the money pile.

(Say hallo to Joseph Nasgeroth, the Fence. And soon to be, the trader king. Well we will see about the last statement, for now just fence. You local dealer of goods.)

"What did you find?" Conner asked the dog. Some people may find it wierd that he was talking to something that couldn't talk back, but they could get over it. "Are these it?" Conner asked again, looking at the nondescript plants. Well, it wouldn't hurt to get some. And if they weren't what she was looking for, no harm done.

Talon bit some and pulled them up before pulling a set of grass and flowers aswell and placing them near Conner's feet, and barking.

Skyler smiled and climbed down seeing Conner and Talon. "Talon? Conner? I notice you found some. Thanks." Skyler sighed slightly and grabbed the flowery bunch of thorn stems. "There." She carefully cut them with her dagger before placing them in a bag.

"I thought it would be harder. And how can those little plants heal anything." Conner said, genuinly curios about how they can heal him. "And don't give me any credit for finding these. It was Talon. Maybe I can catch something as smart as this little guy." 'Perhaps a bird of some sort. Heard crows were pretty smart.' Conner thought to himself.

"Well alright and When they dry out I can show you." Skyler smiled before placing them in her bag, and looking at him upon hearing him mention wanting a smart pet. "I know of one other smart stray pet and it is at the abandoned alley home.. it is about an hour away. i have to grab some items from there care to join? maybe you can befriend it." She smiled and walked toward the door silently, and waited for his answer.

"Sure, let's go have a look at it." Conner decided and hurried over to and out the door. But then he realized, he still didn't know where he was going, and had to let her guide him. "What kind of animal is it? Is it a cat? A dog? A bird?" Conner went on listing animals that came into his mind.

"I know its a bird but it is either an owl or a crow." Skyler said leading the way holding Talon in her arms lightly as she thought more and more about the stray pet. "Whatever it was rather observant and trained." She remarked and sighed, as she led the way through the streets and through the shadows upon nearing it she pulled the key from her pocket and opened the door, brushing a large cobweb from the corner of the doorway.

Joseph were searching for scrap and other useful items when he came across a girl he had never seen before. Although that should not be a surprise as he knew almost none of these people. He smile up on her and silently rose behind her. He prepared a smile, hiding his split tongue behind his teeth, and poked her on the should, and said "Hello little one, spying on people? Haven't your mother told you that is naughty?" He chuckled.

Conner followed her to the house, oblivious to the lizardman. 'I could settle for an owl, it'd be kind of cool to have one actually. Hopefully it's a screech owl.' Conner thought. When they reached their destination, and he got inside, Conner immediately began his search for that bird. Looking high and low, he eventually finds it. A screech owl, up in the rafters and looking down on them as if to say 'What do you want?'

Issac was sitting on his small perch, and saw the Lizard man approach the girl he'd been racing earlier. He tensed himself up drawing the knife from his side. He hand't seen him before, and was on alert the minute anything happened that made him flag it red he'd be there in about 30 seconds. Now that's not saying he'd be able to pin or get the person, but he'd be there in 30 seconds. So he sat on the front of his toes waiting his eyes pinned right on them.

"Hmm? Oh. Wait... who are you?" Tokoyo raised an eyebrow at the new mutant who had creeped up behind her. "Are you like, a creeper or something? 'Cause if you are, I can't stand those..."

(Gah, I stopped getting notifications! Sorry! Okay, awkwardly-long kinda-action post to make up for it.)

Avery had slipped out of the hotel shortly after Jarek ran off. Nickkel was, hopefully, still in the hotel room where she had left him. She had started running, and she hadn't stopped until she was nearly hyperventilating. Which, having high stamina and speed due to her genetic mutations, meant she ran far. She looked around, furrowing her brows. Where was she? She was clearly still in the city, but at the same time she was clearly a very far distance from the hotel. She groaned in annoyance at herself. She should've been paying attention to where she was going! Well, maybe she could sniff out the path home? Avery snorted at herself. Sniff out the path? You're a cat ya idiot, not a bloodhound.

Avery sighed and kicked a rock, sending it skittering into an alley... Something kicked it back. Tensing, Avery looked up. Out crept a hyena-mutant... and he was clearly a cannibal. Avery paled.

"Heeeeey little kitten, you're a bit far from home eh? Why don't you come to papa, and I'll keep you nice and safe," He cooed. Avery opened her mouth as if to retort... And then she ran. She heard the slapping of feet against concrete behind her and swore. He was giving chase. And while she was fast, he was too. C'mon, why couldn't I be part cheetah??? Avery veered off to the right at an intersection and went booking it down the street. She heard him hot on her tail. And he was steadily approaching. Avery yowled as he suddenly reached out and grabbed hold of her tail, then knocked her to the ground. She hissed and rolled over, moving to leap at him (and hopefully tear his eyes out) when he pinned her hands first. He moved as if too kiss her when she headbutted him and wiggled her wrists free. Shoving the hyena off, Avery got to her feet and hissed, running again. Her head ached from being taken down, and there had been a bit of red on the ground where she had been. Sh-t, am I bleeding? Great, I'm going to have cannibals coming at me for miles! God damnit! Avery groaned at her own stupidity and veered around another corner, slowing a bit when she didn't hear the hyena. She sighed, resting her hands on her knees. Okay, catch your breath and then get back to the hotel. The center of the city. No big deal, right?

"Ah c'mon baby, why're you runnin'? I won't hurt ya... much," The hyena laughed, showing up on the other side of the building she had just ran around. She deadpanned. F--k my luck. "Come on, kitten. I'll be nice and gentle with ya."

"Oh yeah, cause taking me down like a rugby player is 'gentle'," Avery spat back at him. He howled with laughter.

"Feisty! I like ya kitten. Maybe I won't eat ya. I've always wanted a pet cat," He said, walking towards her slowly. Avery bared her teeth and extended her claws.

"Oh yeah? Too bad this 'kitten' isn't domestic," Avery growled. The hyena man chuckled and then ran at her. Avery wasn't going to run this time. No, she'd fight. Yeah, come at me b-st-rd. See how 'nice' you'll walk away. The hyena lunged at her.

.........

Minutes later, Avery and the hyena were glaring at each other, catching their breath. Each was wounded, the hyena man bearing the most injuries such as a missing eye. Avery was growing tired. He was a tougher opponent than she expected.

"Giving up, kitten?" The hyena spat.

"Giving up?" Avery repeated. She laughed, though it was weak. "No way, traitor. I won't go down so easily. Just look at yourself. You think I'm the one who should give up?"

"Aren't you tired of fighting, kitten?" He asked suddenly. Avery froze. What...? What the hell is he getting at? Yes, of course I'm tired of fighting. I'm tired of all of this really... "Wouldn't it be easier to just put yaself in someone else's hands? To just give yaself over and let someone fight for ya? Come to me, I can give ya that. I can keep ya safe, ya won't have to fight anymore."

Avery was frozen. This man, this horrible sick man, was offering exactly what she wanted. She wouldn't have to fight anymore, she could be free from worry. She'd be cared for. Taken care of... Avery suddenly snarled.

"How dare you think that I'd so willingly bow down and be domesticated! By you!" Avery exclaimed. Sure, she wanted to be cared for. But by this man? A stranger, and a monster? No way in Hell. Avery went to attack, when a roar suddenly ripped through the air. Both mutants tensed. That was definitely lion... A new stranger, with a crazy head of hair and a beard, came sprinting full force. He then leapt, and tackled the hyena.

"Run, cat-girl, run! I've got this, my pride's on the way!" He shouted to her. Avery nodded and didn't stop to question it. She just booked it. She began to recognize her surroundings. She was nearing the hotel! Thank whatever higher beings are out there! Avery slowed and began to approach the hotel slower. Now that her adrenaline was wearing off, she felt tired and scared and like she was going to cry. She hurt, both physically and emotionally. She limped her way towards the hotel, which was now in sight though still distant, and sighed. Sh-t. I'm never going on a run again.

Those in the hotel and nearby could hear a yell. "AVERY?!" Jarek yelled and dropped the two bowls without care. In a flash he threw the different stuff he had gotten except a single thing, at the same time he grabbed one of the attachable pockets off his rucksack and bolted out of the door towards one of the windows. "HARE! Coming through!" He shouted and jumped from the window, down to some metal pieces or broken concrete and he continued freerunning all the way down until he jumped off the last floor and made a rolling landing near the lobby.

"Avery!?! AVERY!" Shouted Jarek. "God dammit! I go out for a f--king run and then you're gone?! Christ!"

He jogged around the hotel until he saw Nickkel. "Furball what the f--k are you doing here?! Oh.. Avery?.." Jarek scooped up Nickkel and placed him in his chest pocket. "Avery!" Jarek looked around and suddenly saw a figure. "Avery?!"

He ran towards the figure in the distance and saw Avery. Jarek sped up only to stop abruptly again, he saw her wounds." Avery?! What the h-ll?! You look like you just fought off a bear! Christ.." He shook his head. "Nevermind, let's get you pack to the hotel, it's not safe out here.."

Avery's head shot up as she heard someone call her name. Not just any someone, but Jarek. He came running up to her, and she spotted Nickkel in his pocket. She winced at his loud exclaiming. God, she must've hit her head harder than she thought. She stumbled forward and nodded meekly, still gripping her side tightly. She knew the hyena had taken a swipe at her side, but jeez, how deep did he get her? It hurt like a b-tch. Avery stumbled again and just barely caught herself on Jarek's shoulder. She hissed in pain. "Not a bear. Hyena. Cannibal." Tried to make me his pet, Avery added to herself. And I almost agreed. "What'd I miss?"

Issac was still watching the lizard guy, and the other girl when all of a sudden Jarek jumped down almost in front of him and heard one of the people from before yelling. Issac was stuck in place for a few moments before he himself jumped and swung on a piece of metal not doing as such graceful roll as Jarek to the first floor. He ran past both of them with his kitchen knife out only saying hurriedly as he past them "I'll watch the entrance." He ran into almost pitch darkness now, but thankfully his eyes were used to it. He stood with the kitchen knife in front of the door looking into the darkness, he turned back to the girl and Jarek every so often to see if she was okay.

Jarek nodded as Issac ran past them. "Thanks.." He continued towards the elevator, luckily it was already down. Wait.. Did Nickkel get it down? He wouldn't be able to follow Avery if she freerunned down to the lobby and away.. "Hyena? S--te Avery.. You had me worried sick You still are, look at yourself you're friggin bloody.." He got Avery and himself inside the elevator and pushed the button to floor ten. "Christ.. Well.. What? I've done it once.. I will have to carry you, darn we need something better than a rope for others to get up and down from floor 10th to 13th. "

Jarek stared at Avery's wounds and sighed again. "What you missed? Well.. I don't know much, I was away too you know. But I met this other cat woman.. Wherever she is now, and well I was going to give you sphaghetti for dinner and you were gone.. Damn it Avery, I know you're not a kid but out there is dangerous! I am sure you didn't bring that bow with ya'.. You could be killed, or worse!" He said, quickly mumbling to himself. "What would I do without you.." He looked as the elevator reached floor ten.

"Anyway.. I thin- no I am sure I have some bandages in my backpack, and there should be some stuff in the bathrooms? Are you still bleeding?" Jarek looked at Avery's wounds, before helping her out. "Aight.. Well from the looks of it, you are not going to just hold on to me.." Jarek quickly lifted Avery up, placing one arm under her legs and the other supporting her back. "Hang on.. Okay.. S--te.. I'm insane for doing this." Jarek crouched down and jumped upwards, nearly stumbling as he landed on the floorboards, or what remained of them. He continued upwards balancing carefully on some wooden boards. "You lost weight? You seem lighter than usual!" Jarek commented, hopefully to lighten the mood atleast. He made a final jump towards floor thirteen, unluckily he didn't land completetly and hit his leg at the broken boards. "Mh... Christ, I'm just worrying too much.." Jarek thightend the grip around Avery and limply continued past the kitchen area towards Avery's room.

He carefully walked through the open door, just as he did jumped Nickkel down to the floor and 'cleaned' the spilled food and bowls. Jarek himself placed Avery on her bed and turned around and rummaged through his backpack. "Christ, Avery.. Why did you go?"

Avery wasn't used to being touched. Nor was she a very touchy person. So that fact that Jarek just picked her up out of nowhere startled her. On a good day she would've bitten him, but today was not a good day. Avery held his shoulder with one arm and held her side with the other. Every launch and landing hurt, but Avery kept quiet about it by biting the inside of her cheek. She clentched her eyes closed and leaned her head on Jarek's shoulder as he carried her to the room she had claimed. She couldn't hide her hiss of pain when he set her down on her bed. "Why did you go?"

"Why did I go?" Avery repeated. She sat up and, rubbing her tail, sighed. "Because I needed to get out, and just run. But then I got lost, and that cannibal showed up. And he attacked me and... Anyway, this lion-mutant showed up and took the hyena down. Told me to run, so I did..." Avery, no, stop it. You are not about to cry. Sh-t, no! Come on, this isn't you! You're strong! You're brave! You're prideful! And you considered giving myself over to a cannibal because he offered to make you his pet! She reminded herself. Avery closed her eyes and covered her mouth with the hand that wasn't bloodied. Sh-t, she was crying. You're not supposed to cry. Especially not in front of people, let alone Jarek.

Jarek took the bandages out. "It's the only thing I have, but it will ha-...." Jarek still in crouched position had turned to Avery crying. "Avy? Damn... Avy.. Don't cry.. Actually.. Cry just let it out."

Jarek stood up and moved over and sat besides Avery. "That son of a b--ch isn't going to harm you.. I'm here Avery.. I'm here to protect you.." Jarek placed an arm carefully around Avery, making sure not to touch her wounds. "..I shouldn't have gone away I'm a stupid -rsehole.." For the moment he went silent hugging Avery.. As the moment passed again Jarek quietly spoke up.

"Avery? You got to trust me on this.. We have to get you out of the rags.. All in all those clothes are completetly tattered. I swear on Furball, I ain't going to look. Alright?" Jarek took the bandages from his backpack. "I can look away if you want, but you'll have to get those off and then we'll get you bandaged and then some new clothes, okay?"

Avery smiled a bit behind her hand. Wouldn't it be easier to just put yaself in someone else's hands? To just give yaself over and let someone fight for ya? That's what the coyote had said. Avery looked to Jarek through her tear-filled eyes and smiled. Yeah... It would be... S--t, Avy! This is Jarek! The stupid bunny boy! You are not thinking about being domesticated, let alone by Jarek of all people...

And then he brought up her 'rags'. Avery busted out laughing, then cringed as her side ached. She stood up.

"Hey Avy, I'll be your knight in shining armor. Now take your clothes off," Avery drawled mockingly, grinning at Jarek. She toed off her shoes, wiggled off her shorts, and pulled her shirt off with a hiss. Moving hurt. A lot. Avery sighed. "Aight, this is the best you're getting."

Jarek scratched one of his hare ears. "What are you laughing at? I'm just saying yo-" Oh.. Oh.. Ohhh....hoh... Well... Apparently she did more than her shirt... Oh..umhm.. Gawd.. Within a jiffy had Jarek kicked Nickkel out of the room and closed and locked it.

"Right.. Privacy.. Well both because you.. Well Yeah." Jarek sat down on the bed again. "And well, I would nee-" Jarek lost all focus as he stared on Avery's back and more precisely Avery's tail "Hey.. Umh.." Jarek didn't even ask as he grabbed the tail carefully and played with it.

"Wow.. I never touched your tail before you know?"

Wait.. Isn't cat's overly sensitive in that part? Or was that dogs.. Christ I'm not good with animals..People...Eh.. This tail does feel nice and fluffy.. Hehe

Issac was still standing outside with his knife, looking into the darkness. After about 10 minutes of nothing he yelled out "Yeah...afraid of me!? Should be...I'll be watching!" Going back inside, and went to check on Jarek and the other chick. He followed them to the room and stood by the door. He knocked saying "Yeah..it's all clear outside...I'm gunna go back to my spot." He went off to the closet ledge and started jumping the metal creaking under him.
