The Inn at the Edge of the World (OOC)

See, I'd like to take the choice to believe they are ignorant of their vile odor and unwashed state, rather than actively seeking to become Plaguesons of Nurgle.

Eugh too gross.

I have to admit, you are right about the people keeping clean thing. I figured our group is just a bit off putting from travel and our nobles would have brought with grooming supplies while our dregs did their best to coat everything in a smoke smell.

Anyone with a city in their background probably knows the basics of hygenie, just haven't had a chance to practice it

I've always been more of a Tzeentch fan myself, much more beauty I think.

Also, since you brought up 40K, I had a badass idea to create a special battle that depicts a very specific Christmas-themed scene.

The idea was to play off the classic germanic mythos surrounding Saint Nicholas. In the old stories Saint Nicholas was actually able to subdue and enslave demons to serve him instead of Satan, for his faith was so strong in God that he was granted such power. That's the original idea behind Krampus, and I felt that was a perfect theme to play off of for the 40K universe.

Saint Nicholas would actually be a Grey Knight psyker, possibly excommunicated from the order for his heretical beliefs. His gift is that he can warp the minds of xenos and even daemons. Normally he'll enslave any xenos he finds to be useful rather than just cut them down, but in the case of daemons he'll go a step farther. Rather than send their bodies back to the Eye after severing their connection to their chaotic masters, he is able to bind their essence to himself so that they might serve him instead. He first tested these powers when he was helping to quell an Ork Waugh and managed to turn 5 full platoons of grots and squigs to his side. Eventually he managed to accrue an army of orks that have helped him turn the tides of several battles, and when not in battle they were trained to help build and refine the weapons of war that they loved so dearly.

Saint Nicholas saw many victories with his ork army, but after a while he began to tire of the constant war against the enemies of Man and wished to help ease the suffering of his brethren across the Empire. So once a year he would make a trip around the known Empire, sending his messengers with barges full of supplies, ammunition, and whatever luxuries he could find to spread cheer and hope where it was needed most. He became known as the Gift Giver, the Emperor's Messenger, and since he often came during the harshest winter months he was even given the name Old Man North.

Others came to his cause as well, fighting by his side and spreading as much joy and relief as they could. But the forces of Chaos saw this agent of Man and feared his potential to steal their servants away from them. So they began to twist the ideals of those closest to him, in particular his close friend and battle brother Krampus. Whispers were planted in Krampus' ear, urging him to punish the wicked within the Empire as his brothers in the Inquisition would want. The descent was slow, but eventually Krampus succumbed to the power of Chaos and was turned into a powerful Daemon Lord. He took as many servants from Saint Nicholas as he could and fled into the warp, far away from Saint Nicholas and the good work he was trying to achieve.

But Saint Nicholas would not be deterred so easily, nor would he simply kill his former brother and confidant, even after such a heinous betrayal. He sought out Krampus and his daemonic ilk, eventually tracking them to a distant human world that had been ravaged by sin and vice. Saint Nicholas found Krampus, and saw that he was attempting to create a tear into the warp to consume this sinful world. Saint Nick swept in with his armies and fought bravely against Krampus and his legions, and through his strength was able to stop the dark ritual of Samhain that Krampus sought to complete. The battle was long, but in the end Saint Nicholas finished the battle with more troops than he arrived with, for he was able to pull some of Krampus' generals and elites back to his cause. The daemonic taint clung to them, but their minds and souls were his.

Krampus fled into the warp once again, furious at the defeat he had suffered. He would lick his wounds and bide his time until he was sure he could exact revenge on Saint Nicholas and all those of the Empire that were guilty of sin. His day came during a unique time of the year that he had christened Midvinterblot, and in the dead of night he stole thousands of children from all corners of the Empire. He brought them to a remote world that sat near many populated worlds of the Empire and set about his work. He would complete Samhain once more, and Saint Nicholas would be powerless to stop him.

Thus sets the stage for the battle of Midvinterblot, set on a remote world where the goal of the battle is to rescue the children and either kill or enslave Krampus if you're playing as Saint Nick, or to sacrifice the children and create the tear into the warp if you're playing as Krampus. And I had a whole list of holiday heroes of folklore that could fight for either side of this battle. In Saint Nicholas' camp you have the Badalisc, Frosty the Snow Daemon, Judah Maccabee (to include Hanukkah traditions), Jack Frost (most likely a Space Wolf veteran), Rudolph and his other daemonic reindeer, the Nutcracker and other toy soldiers, and of course Santa's elves represented by the Ork armies at his command. If you're feeling especially creative I thought that Saint Nick could also have some little drummer grots snuck in there amongst the troops, and perhaps even a little Yukon Cornelius and his tamed Bumble?

As for Krampus you have the Daemon Lord himself, along with his daemonic legions at his beck and call. Among them would be such legends as Frau Perchta and her Perchten, Belsnickel, Zwarte Piet, Knecht Ruprecht, St. Lucia or "Lussi", the Grinch riding a daemonic antlered wolf, perhaps the 'ghosts' of Past/Present/Future (represented by dark eldar or other demons), the Mouse/Rat King, and maybe even something representing Jack Skellington if you wanted to get creative.

If you couldn't tell, this idea kinda took hold and wouldn't let go. =P

Well I only know 40K through lore and other books, I've never bought any models myself. But the idea is really cool, huh? Can you imagine the wintry world of blood and snow you could make for the battle of Midvinterblot? Or all the fun you could have transforming models into yuletide versions of 40K figures?

I've always felt that a scene is only as good as the plot that drives it. And frankly, I think this story of betrayal, enslavement and (in a strange way) forgiveness is very interesting given the grim nature of the 40K universe.

@Teh Frixz

Your move in the main campaign there Frixz. @Silvertongued said that I could roll for investigation, survival, or lore on this one, but I figured it'd be better to get two eyes and two rolls on this. Not sure how he'll handle a group roll though.

Sounds good to me. I'll make my roll in the main thread now then.

-rolls and checks results-

Hooooooooly crap, I almost got 3 successes. I'll settle for two though. What did I find @Silvertongued?

Oh no, I'm not rolling anything. In the main thread both Grey and Hellkite have made investigative rolls. Grey made one for Lore and managed to get one success, while Hellkite made a special investigative roll for supernatural specialization. He got two successes.

Cool beans. Can't wait to find out what this whole thing is.

And in hindsight I really should have had Abram look to see where the stones are rolling. If they're actually trying to roll into camp or if there's something further beyond camp that they want.

Live and learn, huh?

Hell if I know. At best it'd be something to sell to an apothecary, at worst it could be considered a foreign delicacy.
