dressed in fumes, more put together than they used to be
when you go into griffith, it's made immediately clear that a lot is expected of you. in becoming what was expected of her, eliza was forced to crush the old her underfoot. she's been told her whole life that she's going to be something incredible, something powerful. anything which was deemed a weakness had to be destroyed. she's not mean. it's important that that is said from the get go. it is the one remnant of the old self that she has held onto. but she is blunt, although well meaning, and has lost all ability to cover up her emotions with her facial expressions. on the surface, she has all the friends and allies a powerful spellcaster could possibly need. deep down, she feels like none of those people know the real her, and she can't let them get to know her.
the little girl who used to cry without a nightlight is long gone. independent to a fault, it's as though she has something to prove. except, the only person she's proving anything to is herself. she can be worthy of her blood, of her supposed destiny. she has to be, or she's lost everything. she'll have done all this for nothing. sleepless nights, pushing herself to breaking point in training, having to be the best in all of her classes. she contacts her family as infrequently as she can, not wanting to spark concern. her family would far rather she be happy in herself than live up to whatever expectations have been put on her; but eliza can't see that. she just has to be the best.

birth
Eliza's whole family were magic users. Magic was just an everyday thing in their home, something controlled with ease and treated as nothing special. Eliza's magic was powerful and unpredictable from day one, but her family barely even noticed. It wasn't that they weren't looking; more that they saw it as just another part of her. They loved their daughter with all of her quirks, even if those "quirks" did occasionally involve her setting things on fire. Perhaps they were too isolated from the human world, and that was how they somehow failed to see the potential issues. Her parents were Japanese immigrants who were already used to being different and something "other", so they built a community of their own which was full of love. They forgot what Griffith had been like all those years ago, and so when the time came to send off Eliza, they had no hesitation. It would be the best thing for her, to meet more people and different people.
Fourteen year old Eliza went with a heart full of hope and a youthful naievity. Both were quickly crushed. Her control was extraordinarily poor among her peers, and Griffith would not stand for that. Eventually, after one too many close calls in a classroom, somebody decided to give her a staff to use to see if it would improve her control. It minimised the explosive parts of her magic, but she still had to learn how to use it correctly. She was made to feel like a failure for her poor control, and often became so physically unwell from stress and exhaustion that she'd miss classes, only making the situation worse.
the prophecy
She was seventeen when something finally broke in her. Three years of training and even though she'd come so far, it wasn't far enough. She wasn't going to be let home. Her control wasn't good enough. It had to be good enough. She had to be good enough. And so she gave everything she had. If she felt sick, she'd go to class anyway. She'd push herself training late into the night, and go into class the following day and do the whole thing again. And she was praised for her work ethic. She was praised for working so hard and the progress she'd made. She'd isolated herself, barely talking to her friends or family, the latter because she was convinced she'd failed them.
For the first time, her mentors saw her potential and not just her failures, and realised they were dealing with a truly powerful sorcerer. Her teaching and training went beyond just getting her to live safely among humans. She would be powerful, she would be great, the type of person they could rely on to save the world if it came to it, the type of person Griffith could be proud of. They didn't care about the person wielding this magic, only the potential she held. And now, Eliza knows she has to do whatever it takes to be great.

magic runs in eliza's veins like blood. it's something innate, something she can do as easily as breathing. but she's at risk of losing all of her hard earned control if she doesn't keep her emotions tightly controlled.
staff
her staff gives her something to channel her magic through. it's an item to focus on, to keep her grounded in many ways. she can also hit people with it in a pinch, but shattering the wood could potentially result in a magical explosion. so they'd have to really deserve being hit with it.
the key word in describing skylar is soft. their facial features are soft and round, often leading people to believe they're younger than they are. their hair is cut short, but in a way that it gently frames their face. grey eyes give away all of the mischief they carry with them. their figure is slender, no harsh muscles to speak of. they dress in whatever they find comfortable, namely soft fabrics that aren't scratchy, and that give them an androgynous appearance.

being a descendant of one of the founders of whitestone is a heavy burden for anyone to carry. however, skylar dumped that burden on the front steps of the academy the minute they entered the academy. skylar has no time for tradition or old values. "tradition is just peer pressure from dead people" is practically their catchphrase. but this isn't just a blasé rejection of their family's history. anything they complain about, you can bet they're trying to get changed. they don't want credit or fame or glory from it. but they've spent their whole life not fitting in, and they'll be damned if they don't change everything they can to change that, for them and for everyone to follow them.
there's an element of rebellion there too. their family made it clear that unless skylar conformed to their expectations, they'd lose whatever claim they had to their family. well, skylar didn't want that family. they changed their name, and became all the more determined to find their own path and their own way of doing things. skylar is sure they're the bane of the faculty. they're intelligent, and an intuitive magic user, with an excellent grasp of both magical theory and practice. but they'd much rather use their summoning skills to summon their orange cat familiar to keep them company in class, and their casting rituals often involve coffee or energy drinks (or occasionally both) and objects found at the bottom of their bag or pockets. and they work every damn time. it's another way skylar is breaking the mould set for them. if they can find a better way of doing something, they'll do it, even if it's not what's "usually done" or if it's experimental.
it's not hard to fall into the trap of thinking that skylar is nothing but a bundle of chaos and brilliance. but if one gets close enough, they'll discover the real them. a deep loneliness that comes from knowing that even if they did everything right, their family would always find something wrong with them. they only ever wanted to be loved, and if their family won't love them, then they'll try to make everyone else love them instead. they'll do whatever they can to make sure other people don't feel alone like them.

history.
Being the only child, Skylar probably should have been adored and spoiled. Instead, from the moment they had any control over their own actions, they were expected to be perfect. The family was descended from Jadis Whitestone herself, and they needed to act as such. And as a child, it seemed like they would be the perfect heir. Powerful, but with incredible control over their magic. If only they'd start acting like the young lady they were supposed to be. If they were left unattended, they'd be dressed up ridiculously, makeup smeared on their face, but never in a feminine way. They could play the violin, had a deep understanding of magical theory even from a young age... and also liked to spend their time trying to build shelters for the stray cats that would stray onto their family's land.
The day they were shipped off to Whitestone couldn't have come soon enough, as far as their family was concerned. Maybe there, they'd learn to be a proper witch and live up to the family name. And for their first few years there, it looked like it was working. Skylar was the graceful, effeminate "daughter" they wished for. Top of their class in almost everything, elegant, and not engaging in any of those chaotic behaviours they used to love. The fact that when they'd come home from school for a brief visit, they'd spend all day in bed or moping about their room, was surely just overexhaustion from working too hard. And then that image was shattered. They cut their hair, they started to dress differently, and they started to be asked to be called Skylar. Well, their family thought that all Skylar needed was a shock to the system to snap them out of this silly phase. They told them that unless they stopped those requests and went back to the elegant young woman their parents were so used to, they'd be cut off from the family. And Skylar stared at them for a few seconds, before saying, "fine."
That was where their life changed. They no longer had anything to lose. And so, they started a one-woman campaign to change some of Whitestone's more outdated policies. It started with them demanding to have their name changed in the school records. Eventually, school administration did it to shut them up. Even if they had been disowned from their family and no longer carried the family name, they were still a Whitestone by blood. Even if they'd stopped doing things the traditional way, their knowledge of magical theory and summoning couldn't be denied, and neither could their place at the top of their class. They were going to make sure that their peers knew they didn't have to follow whatever path they were expected to be on; in gender, in magic, in tradition. The school would probably be happy to let them graduate at this point; one less troublemaker, perhaps. But Skylar has nowhere to go after this. They know it, and the staff know it. So they're staying as long as they can, to put off having to face the future and the knowledge that they're all alone in that future.

it's not hard to believe amy is something otherworldly. pale skin that never burns or tans, green eyes that sometimes seem too green to be real, and flaming red hair falling around her face in waves. she stands at barely 5'1", with a slim frame that didn't seem to change all that much when she hit puberty.

personality
what do you become when you've been lied to about your true self your whole life? unsure is the answer. amy has been through multiple phases trying to figure out who she really is, and she has yet to find an answer. she tried too hard to be "normal" for too long. she used her weirdness as a shield for her fear. and now, she's trying to figure out how to embrace it without becoming a caricature of herself. this paints a picture of a troubled young woman trying to find her place in a world not made for her. and, sure, that's not too far from the truth. but to boil amy down to her struggles for identity is doing her a great disservice.
amy's resting bitch face also doesn't help much. a safety measure designed to keep those who would taunt her at bay, it now hides a woman who would do literally anything to help out those around her, especially her fellow women. she's that friend who always has a spare hair tie and will have it in your hand the moment you ask. painkillers, snacks, you name it, amy more than likely has it. the jury is still out as to whether or not she actually keeps all of that in her backpack or if she just has some sort of enchantment on it. it goes beyond supplies, she's perfectly willing to stand up for those who can't stand up for themselves. she's not afraid to let out her inner crazy to scare away weirdos.
the inner crazy is a result of being gaslit for years, and finding out her family isn't who they claimed they were. there's a lot of pain there, and she's slow to trust entirely for fear that they will turn around and betray her again. she's rebuilding her relationship with both of her families now, but there's a part of her that's bitter, and she can't get over it. she can't forget and she doesn't want to forgive, and so she's carrying it with her forever. she doesn't trust anyone enough to put it down with them. she's running from her pain and her past and doing what she can to forget and move on.

history
Once upon a time, a man and a woman got married. All they wanted was a big happy family, with as many kids as they could manage. But unfortunately, they struggled to have a baby for many years. After what felt like a long, long time, they finally had a daughter, who they called Amelia. Amelia was a fussy child, often sickly, and her mother took to walking the forests at night to calm her down. Her mother knew these forests like the back of her hand, knew where to avoid and where was safe to travel at night with a baby. She also knew where the fairies and the pixies were rumoured to live, and late one night, she found herself straying into that part of the woods. The pixies were throwing a party, as they often did, and so they were distracted. The woman found herself following one to the nursery, where innocent young babies slept, so perfect and quiet. And in her desperation, the woman swapped them. Her fussy human child for an angelic pixie one.
When she realised what she had done and went back, she couldn't find the pixies any more. She told her husband, and they agreed that if they couldn't undo what had been done, they would at least raise the baby girl as well as they could. Amelia was an odd child, often too quiet. From a young age, she was like a magpie, and her parents had to keep anything that shone or sparkled well out of her reach. The value didn't matter; just the shine and the sparkle. She wouldn't be placated with jewellery of her own, even if she did like wearing it. She just liked to collect it, and would be found sitting on the floor surrounded by all the shiny things she could find on sunny days, admiring the light and how it reflected off them.
A magpie of a child would have been easy to pass off as human. But that wasn't her only pixie trait. If she wasn't found in the sunshine, admiring her treasure, she was running through fields and making flowers grow with every step. If one of her parents grazed themselves, a simple touch of her hand would heal it. As she grew up, the flowers would grow from places other than soil, and she could heal deeper wounds. They discovered that there was a limit, though, when her father broke three bones in his hand and her touch only numbed the pain, didn't fix it. Traditional schooling never would have been an option. Not with these odd powers, and certainly not with her need to be out in nature as much as she could. If she was too separated from nature, her attention would wane. So her parents did what they could to school her.
But as a teenager, she was seeing everyone around her socialise, and she was bored and lonely. So when she met a boy by the river, they quickly became friends. He invited her to a party, and she sneaked out. For the first time, she felt normal. In the midst of the drugs and the alcohol, everyone thought the flowers that she could produce was a cool trick or a hallucination. But all she did was confirm to her new friend that she was who he thought she was. See, he was a pixie too, and he had a friend. The friend had a pixie name, but she was not a pixie. She was human, raised by pixies who would not abandon a child just because she was not one of them. And they'd told her how she'd been swapped with one of their own, who they called Borlewen, and who they thought had been stolen by the humans. She had found Borlewen, and she knew nothing of her nature.
And so they decided to tell her. Amy sat, and listened, and at first, she didn't believe. In a daze, she went home, and she asked her parents. They looked at each other, and they told her the truth. She was Borlewen, the child they'd taken instead of Amelia. She wasn't human. That was why she could produce flowers but the people who called themselves her parents couldn't. Everything seemed to happen so quickly then. The pixies told her parents about Renwhick, and they sent her away so she could be among people like her and learn more about her magic. Amy, at first, resented them for sending her away, and her pixie "family" for not looking for her. She partied too hard to run away from those feelings, she tried to be too large for life. And it was her, it wasn't wrong, but it felt hollow. She wanted to be something more, but she didn't even know where she was starting from. And so, she went back to her roots. Collecting shiny things. Drawing. Reading books surrounded by nature. And the child who could never sit still finally found her love in history and mythology, in learning about the multitudes of people and creatures out there she still had to meet... and writing more of those stories. And acting in them. And directing them. (She's a Jack of All Trades for sure.) She finally feels like she's found out who she really is. She parties for fun now, not just to run away from her feelings (even if that is still a small part of it.) And now there's a big wide world waiting for her to discover as well.

history.
ariadne sinclair was born in a secluded village high in the treetops, hidden from outsiders. the village's location was a closely guarded secret known only to its inhabitants. if an outsider ever stumbled upon the village, it was clear that someone had betrayed its location. both of ariadne's parents were renowned healers, capable of treating even the most grievous injuries and concocting potions to cure illnesses. their mastery of healing magic was exceptional, far surpassing the average skill level within the village.
from a young age, ariadne displayed a natural talent for healing magic, much to her parents' delight. at five years old, she began accompanying them as they tended to patients, learning so she was able to do this when she was older. despite the hours spent alongside her parents in the village's healing huts, her favorite place was her family's garden. she loved gardening, delighting in digging through the dirt with her tiny hands, watering the seeds she's planted, and eagerly checking each day for signs of growth. with the guidance of her parents and the village farmers, she quickly developed a talent for the hobby.
as she grew older, ariadne continued to assist her parents, with healing, coming up with potion recipes, or handing out ailments for common diseases, but after a long day ariadne preferred the solitude of their garden. there, she would hum tunes and play in the dirt. at seventeen, while tending to her plants, she experienced a remarkable event, the seeds she had just planted bloomed instantly. astonished, she informed her parents, who were equally amazed. it had been over two centuries since an elf in the sinclair bloodline possessed both chlorokinesis and healing magic.
recognizing her unique abilities, the village elders took an interest in ariadne. they saw her potential to become a powerful light elf with immense utility due to her combination of abilities. under their guidance, she honed her skills until they recommended she attend renwick academy. there, she could receive more advanced training and broaden her social skills beyond the village.

when she was first sent to the academy, she was quite grumpy. she couldn't say anything about it to baba, of course, any protest would be futile, even if fima herself thinks she is very much not in need of being taught. still, if she has to be here, she was going to excel. instead of making friends or lounging about she was dedicated to practicing spells, rituals, being stuck in books and taking up on any physical chore she can find, to keep some sort of sense of normalcy. she was liked by teachers and largely disregarded by her peers, which wasn't much of a problem to her. only sometimes she allowed herself to indulge her frustration with the lack of tangible results, mostly because if she didn't consciously limit those emotions she would go insane.
at the end of year one, she sent a letter to her baba, not-so-subtly bringing up moving up the ranks. she didn't receive an answer. by year two, baba told her she might be seeing a swangoose egg in the near future. by year three, fima gave up on expectations. she realized that her little routine in the academy isn't as useless as she thought, and it brings her a sense of comfort in its own. feels dumb, in retrospect, it all seems as a stupidly long adjusting process. she still feels bitterness and frustration, but now, she has accepted it at least a little.

birth
fima was born in a small village in russia, to a mother and a father who didn't love her. they made sure to tell her how much they wanted a boy, and instead they got her, a nuisance of a child. nothing she could do ever seemed right, for if she stayed at home, her parents would find fault in any small behavior, and woe about how they must be cursed to have such a daughter. if she left, and played outside or wandered around, she would be found in a few hours and scolded. "you'll get taken by baba yaga's birds!" her mother would say. and then, add: "maybe that would be for the best. you'll see firsthand what happens to misbehaving children!".
by age six, her little brother was born, and it became clear she was the odd one out. her parents got the perfect angel they wanted, and she was some beast nobody cared for. so, one day, she ventured out with no intent of coming back. when she saw what looked like geese flying towards her, she only waved at them, and so she was scooped up and brought to baba yaga.
"please, teach me how to be a baba yaga!" fima screamed before the baba could even get a word in.
intrigued by such a request, baba yaga let fima explain her story, and, be out of pity for the girl, or out of seeing promising seeds of potential, took in a new apprentice.
apprenticeship
fima was put to work as baba's helper, both doing the physical chores of upkeeping the house and personally helping baba with her spells. at first the baba would scarcely ask fima to fetch her items, not even allowing her to view any rituals, but as she grew up she was let in more and more, entrusted with more complex tasks. soon enough fima was able to cast her own minor spells, and even craft her own magical items. for example, whenever she was foraging in the forest, she would use an enchanted ball of yarn that would roll on its own to guide her back to the izba. at first, she would use the yarn baba gave her, but eventually she learnt to enchant her own. she started out by casting spells on regular yarn, however that would limit its magical properties. eventually, she was capable of making her own from scratch, and started her own little collection of differently colored yarn that all lead her to different places in the forest.
as fima grew up, however, she got more and more frustrated with her perceived lack of progress. the process of transforming into a baba yaga is not just a path of learning, but also a physical metamorphosis, done through rituals and the adoption of magical properties. fima was annoyed with the speed of her transformation, with baba refusing to imbue her with more magical powers, telling her she is not yet ready. fima is still a fledgling, in terms of her baba yaga status, and she has a great thirst for more power. baba saw her frustrations, and began fearing that fima might burn herself out in her quest for more.
when fima turned 18 a decision has been made to send her to an academy, away from her apprenticeship to instead learn more independently, and perhaps understand the importance of moderation and patience. fima was not satisfied with this decision, but accepted baba's authority and went to blackmore academy. although she never said this to fima, baba was fearing the apprenticeship was stifling fima's potential, and the ability to develop her own identity. baba hoped that being in a more diverse environment would help her pupil grow into herself more.
mentor
baba yaga
her mentor, master, and parental figure. fima never calls her mother, as she is her baba. she can be strict, asserting her authority and rarely being open with fima. despite this, they do care about each other, and fima holds a deep respect for her. baba calls her 'yegoznitsa', meaning naughty child, a nickname that can be both affectionate and scolding. they keep up communication while fima is at the academy, mainly through baba's swangeese, who sometimes bring fima letters, and sometimes just listen to her reports and deliver those directly to baba.

a magical item capable of leading its user to a specific place, determined by its enchanter. regular yarn can be enchanted, however the distance its able to lead will be limited. in order to make more powerful yarn, the enchanter has to make it from scratch, imbuing it with magic. one ball is capable of leading to one place, and the difficulty of the enchantment is determined by the enchanter's familiarity with the place they want the ball to lead.

✿𝅼 º . Eyes : She isn't much of a fan of her eyes as to her, they are a simply brown color. Wishing she was able to have her mother's beautiful green eyes but her father's genes were much stronger against them.
✿𝅼 º . Skin : From very young, Trin has been taught to have an extremely tedious skin + body care routine from her mother as she was obsessed with self hygiene a little too much. Due to this, Trin's skin on her body and face is clear and she seems to always has her signature scent off pomegranates and raspberry at all times.
✿𝅼 º . Build : Trin is not one to work out so her body isn't noticably fit and leans more into the slimmer side of build types but she does kept a healthy diet for the most part as she is very serious about keeping herself on top of a schedule.

⚝ Charismatic : Although at first glance with Trin, most think she is a quiet individual when in reality, she is much more energetic and outgoing than people expect her to be. Having this kind of charm to her that almost feels magnetic to those first meeting her, she has a way with words that make others want to stick around. If Trin really wanted to she could convince a group to do and say what she deems as right and she could pass by without any issues and being in trouble.
⚝ Finishing what's started : Because of her upbring, Trin is very headstrong with her goals and ideas. When she starts something, she will not let it die out until it has been completed or at least to her point of completion. When her mind is sent on something, it will happen or it will be said without a doubt.
⚝ Insight : Trin is pretty well rounded when it comes to talking and listening to people as she has a way to almost feel as she could deeply understand someone without necessarily having to be in their feet to completely understand. It could be a trait she learned from her father who happens to be a psychologist but it was something she is greatly thankful to have.
‧₊˚ 𓂃౨ৎ Vices
⚝ Egoism : Due to her lack of sexual and romantic feelings, she tends to also come across with a bit of an ego as she believes if someone or something isn't fully giving them their all for her and her needs, they have no use for. Trin believes that everything in her life should be for her best interest if not she will cut it off with no second thoughts.
⚝ Over-Identification : This makes her insight seem slightly toxic because she starts believe that anyone she looks up to, Trin will copy everything about their personality down to the T. Which results with an internal struggle of knowing which of the many versions she has created for others is truly the real Trinity Collins.
⚝ Resentful : Trin is not a forigve and forget person like her parents and the rest of her family, when someone has done her wrong, she will have strong negative emotions towards said persons. For every mistreatment she had to face as a child in the childhood, she holds a bit of hatred towards those individuals and only hopes for the best for them. Even in present time, Trin is not scared to cause damage and pain towards those who ever dare to hurt her, her friends, or her family.

Biography
CHILDHOOD
Trinity Alice Collins was born on May Ninth to Darius and Rebecca of the Collins Family, she was the middle child to the couple; having an older brother named Theodore and a younger sister named Tiffany. The age difference between the three children weren't too large, having only a two year difference with Theo and having 3 years with Tiff. Although she loves her brother dearly, Trin had a much closer relationship with Tiffany as the two bonded over the usual girly things that most girls their age loved. Making sure to take care of her and protect her from anything and everything, while Theo protected the two younger girls like the oldest. For many parents this would be a heartwarming feelings, knowing your childern have so much love and care among one another but for the Collins, this was shown to be a weakness. They believed you should see your silbings are rivals for the attention of the older members of the family, the strongest would be seen are the best out of everyone in that section of the family. So their parents tried everything to create a rift in their relationship. At the end, the three promised to play out their roles and since Theo didn't want feel the pressure of the golden title, it was handed off to Trin.
Knowing her parents only cared for her because her siblings allowed this title to be bestowed to her, she stopped care for their opinion and started to distance herself from Darius and Rebecca. They didn't care as long as Trinity kept up the family name in high honor as the Collins were known to be one of the few sorcerer families with such a powerful lineage. Because of this, Trin rarely stated her last name to others, knowing that they would treat her better simply because of her family. Throughout her primary years of learning, she worked hard to keep up with the Golden Child title and kept a relatively high profile in school for her grades and participation in activities.
ADOLENSE
During these years of being a teenage girl were the worse for her, this relationship with her brother and sister was still strong but they were believing to have distaste with their parents obvious difference in treatment amongst the three. Hating how poorly her siblings were being treated, Trin threaten to put out a show to give her family into a negative light. Not wanting to ruin their reputation, they decided to do what they thought fit, locking Trin away in complete isolation and forced to continue her studies at home. From that point, she barely spoke to anyone with the rare occasion of Theo or/and Tiff being able to figure out a way to see her, other than that, Trin had zero contact to the outside world.
Only wishing to know what was going on, she continued to beg her parents to free her and let her live her life but it was no use. They had their mind made on punishing her for her outbursts. She took this time to better herself and to one day prove to her parents that they shouldn't pity or shame her but instead fear her. Counting the days till she felt fit to challenge her parents. Trin almost lost all hope till she hear news of Tiffany, her parents sent her off to some boarding school, this broke her as she now had no one left since Theo would soon be leaving off to Griffin Academy and she would be alone in this godforsaken home.
ADULTHOOD
At the first chance she was given to leave Whitestone Academy, she took it without thinking. Trin couldn't stand the idea of continuing to live with monsters who basically kept her away from society. This time she wanted to go about it in a different approach and instead of threating them, she would continue her path of become feared by them, knowing this Whitestone Academy would be the right choice to better herself. During her time starting her first year, she was on her feet with becoming the top student in her class and eventually the entire Academy.

Hugo has sharp, angular features that subtly curve and shift to reflect his emotions. His features often portray a facade of nonchalance but often gives way to a twitch in his nose of the corners of his dark brown eyes. His hair is a similar dark shade, bordering on black. He keeps it relatively short for the purposes of shifting. The well-kept curls frame his face and brush against his neck. His brows are not as well-kept and could likely benefit from a trimming due to their fullness. A few moles dot his cheeks unevenly, forming a small triangle near his nose.

psyche.
Hugo is, first and foremost, a nonchalant guy. He doesn't have particularly strong opinions about anything that doesn't directly impact his day-to-day. The most he's typically willing to express is about getting to bed early enough or what he wants to eat. More often than not he can be caught aimlessly complaining merely because it's easy to get away with. He enjoys the idea of leading a simple life without airing out his business - except there isn't often much going on in his head aside from when he can get back into bed. He truly embodies the spirit of some of his avian counterparts, including being a night owl. Hugo enjoys being asleep as much as possible during the day and can be found awake at odd parts of the night. Just as he prefers to keep his thoughts to himself, Hugo also prefers to spend his time alone. He's an introvert with a few close friends that he considers family. Being on a best friend-basis is very rare but he's certainly cycled through his fair share of friend groups. When he must, he will float between groups of people based on who he recognizes most in a room. In cases of attending social gatherings, he's especially likely to stick behind the person he feels most safe with like a lost puppy. Leaving him alone would not be in anyone's best interest, lest he end up asleep or rotting in a corner with his thoughts.
Hugo is what most would call a people watcher when he can keep his eyes open. Many may not guess this about him because he doesn't jump at social interaction, but he does enjoy observing and listening in on conversations. Could he be a gossip? Certainly, if he tried. But it would take a bit of prodding to get any information of him. It is partially a curse that Hugo often finds himself speaking in riddles. Due to his relation to tigmamanukan's, he is best known for speaking ominously. He's also grown to enjoy being confusing with his own lack of details and riddles, though. It's a bit of his own dry humor.

history.
In Tagalog folklore, the tigmamanukan is known as a messenger of the gods and bearer of omens. The movement of the bluebird signified either good or bad, left or right. A decision to be made and a call to action. Hugo Caharian's family carried this burden. The shifts are originally from the Philippines, living in mossy forest amongst themselves. Their family was small and known to be an isolated group of shamans and healers. Every day they spoke and prayed to the gods, who in turn shared messages with the Caharian's to relay with the mortal realm. The family was not particularly trusted by neighboring communities. It was rare for them to receive visitors who knew of their presence but, when in desperate need, they were a last resort of trusted healers to turn to. The family was well-respected in their vulnerable human state despite their avian identity being honored in separate.
It was not rare for them to shift into other forms of birds as generations passed. Their tasks never wavered. They would always be messengers in whatever shape or form they took. The Caharian's were often associated with negative omens. It was a daunting burden that many of them carried. Hugo Caharian was no different. He was a very shy boy that rarely interacted with others. He enjoyed his sleep, playing in the weeds and trees near their home. He was a lover of nature at the end of the day. Hugo was kept sheltered for most of his childhood but eh did not mind rarely interacting with others.
Receiving visions of the future was not something he enjoyed, though. It was an ability received differently by much of his family. The unfortunate reality is that foresight was easily frowned upon and it seemed Hugo received many in the form of nightmares. The shy child that he was would secretly venture to nearby towns in the middle of the night when he did not want to sleep. There was one town he grew particularly fond of. He dared to befriend some of the children and accepted sweets from elders. Although he did not say anything when he dreamt of a flood crashing into the town. It wracked Hugo with guilt for days knowing the resources that those he called friends lost. Perhaps if he had shared the details of what he overlooked as merely a dream.
He was sent away by his parents to better his abilities. It seemed that at a young age he received hefts of messages from the gods but his relationship with them wavered. Hugo rarely engaged in communicating with them. Going to the academy, though, changed his relationship with the gods as it seemed the omens he received worsened the longer he tried to ignore them. It became hard to befriend others at Renwick, though. Hugo feared becoming too close and receiving a particularly negative omen that he would have to share. Thus, he kept his distance from other students, maintaining rather surface level relationships to protect himself and others from his own sight. It was no secret what Hugo was able to do. His reputation was awkward for that reason. Some didn't trust him, rumors went about that he would bring about bad luck. Other times, he was just the quiet guy that made lazy, sarcastic jokes at the expense of others.

✧ Renwick School, Avian Shapeshifter - tigmamanukan descendant
✧ Shapeshifting and Flight: Hugo is able to shape shift into some birds of flight. He only shifts into birds known to carry omens, including crows, ravens, sparrows and owls. He first shifted into a tigmamanukan and it is the form he finds most comfortable and is best at.
✧ Foresight: Given his family's history and connection to omens, Hugo has the ability of foresight. He can not exactly predict the future - if someone asked him what they should do, he couldn't look into the future at will and tell them what would happen. However, he occasionally receives glimpses of the future or has a strong inkling (for lack of a better word) of what will happen. Thus, he can tell others what is likely to happen next and it is best reflected through his actions.
✧ Songbird: Hugo was gifted with the ability to sing tunes in the form of whistling. His whistle can disorient others when strong enough and so he actively practices to control its power. The tune can also encourage others to follow his guidance or wishes for a short period of time by falling into a trance.
✧ Enhanced senses: Hugo has enhanced vision, especially at night, and a better sense of hearing. This does not apply to strength or smell.
✧ Flock summoning: Hugo can call on nearby birds of similar species and will talk with them, although it is a limited form of communication that often feels one-sided. Due to his knowledge of omens, however, he can quickly read the presence of other birds and what it signifies.
