- Elliot van Luxmore, The Silver Wolf, Vivifica - The Vivifica Forest -

Elliot would leave the matter of Jynn's injuries alone, for the time being at least. Some air of civility had to be maintained if they were to avoid bloodshed, after all. But at last, the High Priestess truly stepped up and made clear her intentions: To meet with Maestra Nosferi and strip her of all titles and authority, to be supplanted with Jynn Venas as Maester. Though the Silver Wolf had just earlier spoken out of concern for Jynn's wellbeing, his next words were that of complete disbelief.

"Surely you jest?! The boy is too young to take the role of Maester, not to mention unprepared for the responsibilities!" Elliot would call out, shaking his head in disapproval. "As for the Maestra, I stand by her actions, as I stand by her. What we are doing is a necessity, regardless of whether it violates ancient laws or not. Those days are long behind us, it is time to look toward the future, High Priestess." He went on, his words impassioned and confident, gesturing where appropriate, then he would fold his arms over his chest and continue. "I care not if you are here to slaughter us as Zion claimed or simply arrest the Maestra. Only know that you're making a terrible mistake." Elliot finished and remained steadfast, knowing his words would have consequences. But at this moment, the jig is up, so to speak, thus the time for subtlety is over. Then again, it was over the moment Zion made her...dramatic declarations.

- Eleanor Le Doux, Fierce Shadow, Umbra - The Vivifica Forest -

"Do not deny me, Shadow! Yours is supposed to be a fierce might, is it not?! Embrace it! Let it out! Release the Gevurah and bring death to those defilers within the Temple of Life's walls!!"

Yet more inciting words echoed in Eleanor's mind, seemingly getting louder the further into the forest they delved and reaching deafening overtures as she stood near the Vivifica Mages who coldly welcomed the convoy, screeching at her to let loose and bring forth the righteous justice they deserved. Eleanor continued to ponder the meaning of what she was hearing: Why did the Madness have a voice now? Why does it need to escape? How long could she keep this rage at bay? Why wasn't she already slaughtering them?!

With all her mental might, she pushed back that rampant thought that had invaded her mind, visibly shaking her head and clutching her forehead in pain.

- Gabriel Woods, The Soaring Raven, Bounty Hunter - The Vivifica Forest -

"Well, things certainly seem to be heating up, wouldn't ya say? It may be time to strike." Gabriel suggested as they neared the gaggle of mages ahead, their words were just about legible at this distance, particularly as many were being bellowed by the silver-armoured one with a powerful voice. Gabriel scoffed as he made note of this mentally, figuring it was fitting, as well as wondering as to its usual application in Vivifica life...

Jynn Venas, Vivifica - Vivifican Temple

Jynn nods at Arkane’s request. “That won’t be a problem.” He turns back to Richter and Elliot, with Mabel making her request. But as soon as Mabel said her piece, Elliot once again steps forward, refuting the priestess’s words, claiming Jynn was unfit to lead the court. Jynn himself was a little hurt by this, knowing a fellow mage has doubts about him. But the mage does well to hide this, and continues forward calmly. “I’m not sure myself either. But right now I am concerned about all of you. I don’t know why you’re gathering Itika and how you’re using it, but I can’t let this slide. Inevitably, you may hurt other people, or even yourselves, which I do want to see happen, nor do I want to wait for that eventuality to occur. Aislinn knows I disapprove of her actions with Itika.” He glances at Richter then back to Elliot.

“What she probably never told anyone here is that’s exactly the reason why she wants me to be her successor. She told me that she doesn’t want me following in her footsteps. With that knowledge, don’t you find it a bit suspicious in the slightest? Do you even know why she is collecting Itika?” He pauses before giving off a genuine look of concern. “Listen..... we’re friends, right? The three of us couldn’t fathom the idea of one of our mages getting hurt, nor the idea of one of us getting hurt either. I don’t want bad things to happen to Aislinn, I really don’t. But Itika is a very serious and dangerous substance. I just don’t want to see any of you hurting yourselves, but I’m also concerned about others too.”

Jynn could sense the tension in the air between Mabel, Elliot, and Richter. This was not good, nor the ideal behavior for this objective. Jynn suggests a change of plans. “How about this, Richter will lead us inside, with the suggested sized party Richter allows of course, and we all take a little time to settle down, perhaps an hour or two? This way, Aislinn and Mabel can prepare themselves, and we can have the Vivifican mages lower their weapons. Perhaps we could even fill our bellies if that will calm everyone down. Right now, this tension will not let us talk in a civilized manner.”

- Daruk Mordem, Ignis Court, within Vivifica's Temple with the other three leaders -

Daruk should have known that when Henry was mentioned in Makoto's presence he should have accounted for her. Her vouch to stay by Henry was certainly in character, and yet it was not an answer he felt he could give. The others seemed to attest to this as well, especially Maestra Nero, and he shook his head sadly.

"Yes, that is true . . . the fewer heads the better, though I had hopes otherwise. Henry, Makoto, you two stay here. Worse comes to worst, this may be for the best, though I have faith in my fellow court leaders that things will end peacefully." He tossed a grin toward the others and raised his head high. "Do me proud and keep tensions low, eh, Henry? Makoto?"

Placing a meaty palm on their shoulders one after the other, he walked off to join the rest of the court leadership and anxiously waited to be led off to meet Aislynn.

- Jari Coriander, Somnum Court, taking leave of Everyth in Sanctus Heights' Cathedral -
Mystics Apprentice Mystics Apprentice

The fox kid glanced down at Luka's statuette too, nodding in agreement toward Everyth's desire for having an unenchanted portrait. It was true that the rawest beauty can be the most becoming. Take a pretty girl and powder her finely with makeup and she will be beautiful still, but it was a different sense of beauty. Everyth had that very semblance of beauty, and to capture her raw and amazing self in an amazing light and setting would be an artist's dream come true.

He blushed from this line of thinking, and from her discussing him and his tenacity for helping people, and from her blown kiss, and he muttered out a thank-you before timidly waving her good-bye with a small sweeping motion of his hands.

"It was lovely chatting with you, too . . . Everyth," he voiced under his breath, as if half-afraid to let it out into open air and be heard. The girl was lovely both inside and out, but he had already convinced himself that there was another he was interested in, Kagura notwithstanding. He slapped himself with both hands at the same time once, twice, thrice, before taking his creations back into his room for safekeeping. "Mako, where on earth are you?" he again voiced, looking out of the open window.

Without much further planning, he decided to pay a visit to the library where he expected to see people, but all he saw was the aftermath of residency. Of Vincent and the others there was no sign, but a pile of books was available to read. Perhaps it would behoove him to do his due diligence as well? With that thought in mind, he decided to settle down in a chair with a mess of interesting tomes and pore over them. It may not have appeared as such to people, but Jari was an avid reader, typically novels but some nonfiction as well, chiefly based around history and trivia. He dug in casually at first, but then study took over, and he was lost in between the covers of books.

- Pali Noirtier, Umbra Court, in the air with crazy people, horses, and a monster -
Mystics Apprentice Mystics Apprentice Stardustblade358 Stardustblade358 Elrandir Elrandir RikuXIII RikuXIII

The Umbra man cringed at the thought the Dullahan had provided him, his pocket watch returning to dangle at his side. He, Pali, had given the creature improvements and perfections through his wishful thinking? If so, was there even a way to kill the monstrosity, this aberration of all things physical and spiritual? No, he thought, trying to pull his thoughts back together. If this thing was to be killed, it has to first be defeated by thought. This thing has been called into being by wishful thinking, and it can be removed through the same method, like all of the others. Whether or not the golden pocket watch would be enough, the others and I would have to finish off the being.

"Vincent, resist its pull. It's trying to sap magic out of you, the leech. Strike while the iron is hot like your companions!" he spoke through feverish voice and waves of concentration, falling back into his seat in a swoon. Dots of sweat beaded his face.

Vincent seemed to have been well on his way to doing so, acting swiftly, though he wondered what would happen to the girl that deigned to hop on the creature's back. He did not seem to catch on, elsewise why would he attack in such a manner? The man appeared to have the unfortunate desire of helping people out selflessly, contrary to Pali, who did it purely out of selfishness, or so he thought of himself.

Shiroo caught him by surprise, though. Reeled, Pali rose his head and caught few words from Shiroo's mouth, but the raised weapon over his cranium and the dash could not be lost in translation. Pali rose an arm in defense of his head, but too late, the weapon smiting him on the head but not enough to drive him unconscious. His head throbbed in response, and concentration was all but lost as he felt concussed by the blow. The Dullahan and the ghost horses will quite likely lose much of their energy, unless the Dullahan itself, like he once was fearing, could last easier even without its creator. The carriage shook as if struck by a thick tree branch midtravel.

"Horses!" he spoke weakly in the chair. "The horses! Rein them before they lose control . . . drop altitude . . ."

Saff calmed herself as she held up the weapon, using it as a channel. Her magic flowing through it causing its magical canister to rotate And hum with magic. The wind would begin to rotate around the group, forming a veil like wall. As the wind blew around it began to calm like the eye of a storm. Dead Calm. Soon what followed was a deep silence. “We can approach now. Just keep quiet and don't touch anything” she would say as she pressed forward. They would remain unheard and to the naked eye Unseen.

Oberon watched closely through the crack on the closet waiting for a chance to move. She had stashed her shotgun into the very earth beneath her feet. It would tunnel through the structure and follow close by within the walls so long as she concentrated on its location. The structure of the cathedral would be faintly weakened by it but that was none of her concern. She had picked up a broom and a feather duster, planning to play the part as soon as Kolm left the vicinity although if she had to she would put him to sleep as well.

- Richter - This is fine - Outside The Court of Vivifica -
Mystics Apprentice Mystics Apprentice Nero Kunivas Nero Kunivas Stardustblade358 Stardustblade358 RikuXIII RikuXIII Thanny Thanny

Richter stayed silent as he allowed the mages to talk amongst themselves, one of them, an umbra type from what he could see, sad to say Richter paid no attention nor care to who the man was, snapped at him, saying that them staying there would be the equivalent of keeping them hostages under Vivifica. If only the boy thought things more clearly, Vivifca was the hostage here, a caravan with these many talented mages? under orders from the elders to do whatever is necessary? Richter was just as much a hostage as Aislinn, and everyone else in VIvifica as far as he was concerned, it didn't matter thougn, Richter merely looked at Arkane straight in the eyes as the man spoke, the man's protest would fall on a blank and emotionless face, as Richter would slowly blink back at him as if to ask 'are you done?'. Whether Arkane took this as a taunt or anything else would be of the greatest form of amusement to Richter.

Thankfully Thea Nero spoke truly, followed by a truly outstanding speech by Jynn, Richter always knew Aislinn made the right choice choosing Jynn as the heir, the boy held potential to be a great Maester. "You're right, Jynn, Thea Nero." Richter spoke.
"This is the best outcome, Jynn, Mabel and the Maesters shall come into the court, where we will hold a meeting with the Maestra in due time." Richter reinforced Jynn's statement, and with a flick of his finger, some of the illusion in the gates to the court would subside slightly, this would allow anyone accompanying Jynn and himself to enter, while Vivifica mages themselves, and those born in the court could walk in without any requirements, those not of the court would need permission or escort by a Vivifican mage to pass by the illusion, in which case if they didn't meet the requirements they would find themselves in another part of the forest, possibly lost and without their bearings.

"Elliot...would you come along with me and them?" Richter asked his...rather mouthy friend to accompany him in escorting the relegated parties.

Richter would wait a few more moments for the Maesters to say their piece, before bowing his head respectfuly, and guiding them in. "Let us go, then." He would say as he would guide them inside.

Well this isn't how he imagined his afternoon would go, he was keeping quiet, letting the Maesters, Jynn and Mabel do the talking, he knew that in this situation any mispoken word or action could end up causing a fight, and a fight would be the last thing they'd want right now. He was taken by surprise as Daruk announced him being his heir, a sense of pride...a bit of embarrassment and shyness, and reassurance showered Henry as Daruk spoke of him, but alas he knew he wouldn't be able to come if it was to maintain the peace. Especially as Makoto was at his side, and denying any form of separation from him, which was expected of course.

"Of course, Daruk, I will make sure things are under control...me and Makoto." Henry commented, nudging Makoto slightly. "Right, Makoto?" he did this to rile her up, as he would then look at Yael. "You might want to hop onto Daruk if you want in..." He whispered to his newly acquired scar in the form of a ferret.

"Home isn't always the place you belong." Arno commented as soon as Tibarn asked about Saffron's dislike of Vivifica. After all Arno knew that better than most, after all being sold by your parents to someone kind of does that to you, albeit he hoped Saffron didn't have that experience. This wasn't the time to reminisce about the absolute banger of a past though. Back on more important matters.

Well this wasn't how he imagined his afternoon would go either, this whole deal with mages just made him regret not bargaining for more of a reward from Vaike. 1000 gold pieces? not nearly enough to deal with court mages, this just remined him of his previous dealings with some a few years back much to his annoyance. Saffron utilized her new skills to create a bubble of condensed air, spiralling and distorting light and appearing invisibile to those outsde the bubble, and air being air, would simply be felt as a breeze to those near it, unless they entered the bubble, that'd be bad.

"Wait." Arno would speak, silent enough for all those inside the bubble to hear. "Look." He would then point forward at the mages, who still haven't noticed us in the distance they were. "They seem to be getting ready to move inside...wait a moment, let them enter first." Arno recommended this course of action, even though Saffron's bubble was a genius idea, he was skeptical if these many mages wouldn't notice the bubble, even if it's invisible to the naked eye.

"We go in soon after them, is there something you can do to reinforce our disguise, Vaike?" Arno asked Vaike, as the latter has mentioned that he was well versed in illusion magic himself before.

Vlad was mostly in a daze as Arun proved to be astoundingly nonchalant...or just innocent in genera, at the simple fact that they were now in a girl's room, and said girl was in her pajamas. Vlad's eyes shifted awkwardly at Arun then at Aquilla...then he sighed, Ignis mages man I tell you. Vlad shrugged, "I jumped to the nearest room I saw, can't really tell who's inside if they're in bed." Vlad commented as Arun began to disclose about the book they found.

"Ah ye, this ol'book we found" Vlad sighed again. "it's in Latin, of all things, dead language...I only know a few bits'n'pieces o'it." He said as he crossed his arms.

The priestess refused to be intimidated by the Silver Wolf. She instead locked her gaze onto his, a fierce intensity burning within her eyes.

"Aislinn has named Mister Venas as heir of Vivifica for a reason," she said coolly. "To question placing him in charge is questioning your own maestra's intentions. Mister Venas has escorted me here and placed his own life in danger to ensure my safety and that of his court brethren. He has proven himself as far as I am concerned."

With that, Jynn would feel Mabel grasp his hand and give it a slight squeeze, before releasing it to allow her hands to fall to her sides. She gave Richter a nod. "Please, Mister Vanis, lead the way."

She would walk in front of the court maesters and maestra, following Richter and potentially Elliot. While she could see that the Silver Wolf had a heart of iron and was passionate about defending his court, she was concerned about that one . . . . While Richter seemed more compliant and knew the extent of his limits, he was uncertain if Elliot would yield so readily.

Once they walked through the illusion and arrived in the court, Mabel would let out a breath in awe, admiring her surroundings. The Temple of Life was far grander than anything that she had ever seen. She could feel the life and magic in the air, the vines along a column begging her to stroke them and feel the mana pulsing within them. It seemed that the plants, nay, the temple, were alive . . . but what was it's source?

"This is your home?" Mabel whispered to Jynn. "It is amazing! Remarkable! Never have a seen such beauty."

Louder, Mabel spoke to Richter and Elliot. "We would be willing to wait here if you wish to find your maestra and prepare her, or we would happily come to her. We respect your wishes."

"Truer words couldn't have been spoken," Tibarn murmured, recalling his own origin and roots. He shuddered at the thought, and was pleased when Saffron cleared the air . . . quite literally. It stunned him to think that they wouldn't be detected in this bubble, but she seemed to be the expert on these matters. He was no mage, not even slightly, so the usage of magic was always a curious thing to him.

"Just this once . . . . I will refrain from touching shiny objects," Vaike said with a laugh, before clapping Saffron on the shoulder. "Well done. I knew that I sensed a lot of potential in you."

They would watch as the Temple of Life seemed to spring to life, before vanishing nearly as quickly as it appeared. Vaike frowned. "Illusion magic, or safeguarded in another dimension?" he inquired, a brow raised. "It is too difficult to tell from this distance. Do you happen to know, Saffron?"

At Arno's question, Vaike would snap his fingers and smile at Arno. "You really have a brilliant mind. I may be a bit rusty, but let me see what I can whip up. Now, I'm going to have to concentrate pretty hard to keep this going, so don't talk to me. Just pull me along if you need me to do something."

Vaike glanced up at the sky, eyes narrowing upon a single bird in the sky. The number of birds quadrupled, over and over, until there were hundreds of birds. They would angrily swoop down and charge the court mages near the carriage, well after the maesters, maestra, and Mabel had entered the Vivifica court and disappeared. For good measure, any of the mages who were studying the nearby trees would also see a familiar figure behind them. Blue cloak, face mostly concealed except for a condescending smile. It was Invidia, or at least as much of his likeness that Vaike could conjure.

This was their chance, and probably as much of a distraction as they were going to get.

The dullahan flailed as Incarose leapt on its back, her blade meeting resistance of bone and being unable to pierce it. He attempted to grab her by her hair to wrench her from his back, but had only managed to give her hair a good yank before Vincent's feet met his chest to kick him out the carriage door. He went flying with the full force of Vincent's weight, releasing Incarose's hair and attempting to grasp at anything he could to stay within the carriage–only he failed. He went falling out into the bleak nothingness, Incarose likely still on his back unless she had released him.

Pali nearly being incapacitated caused the dullahan to briefly grow transparent, before its form began to glow and turn into bleak nothingness. Incarose would find that her arms would wrap around herself instead of the creature, as she alone would be falling–alongside the carriage.

The others would feel a violent jerk and be thrown forward. The carriage was falling–and rapidly. Shiroo threw himself toward the carriage door, slamming his palm into it. The metal would jerk and contort, reshaping itself into a long chain which would fall out of the opening. He hoped that Incarose would be able to grab onto it–and that it wasn't too late. The other end of the chain was welded into the doorframe so that it would be secure and hopefully support her weight.

"Too late!" Shiroo cried out. "We're going to crash! Them horses are likely gone! Pali, quick–make us fly, suspend the ship–anything!"

Elia listened, musing over this Irasbeth Tekkanororia and bringing a finger to her chin. "Hmm, don't really know much about her, but sure! I'm sure that Dad wouldn't mind a visit." Her gaze darkened momentarily as she lifted her head up to meet Diane. "Say, umm . . . do you happen to know how my sister is doing? She's still in, ah, jail?"

She had been concerned about Ariana for a while, but didn't know how to go about helping her with little evidence to shed on the fact that it was not her responsible for the attack on the lieutenant–even if she happened to hate the man.

Once they arrived to the lieutenant's room, Mastiff's attention shifted from the newspaper that he was reading over to the door. "Ah, Elia, dear," he said warmly, before his gaze immediately flickered onto Diane, warmth slowly fading from his expression. "I see that you've brought . . . a friend."

He remembered that the lich had been present at the time of the attack–she had been the one to save his life. She also had been the only one to have met Niall, which meant that she knew a lot more than others–and perhaps knew what he did.

"Well, Miss Corbeau, it seems that I placed my faith in the correct mages," he said. "I owe you my life, and I am very grateful to you. What do I owe the pleasure of this visit? Normally I would offer you some tea, but I, ah, don't seem to have all of my strength back."

At this Elia shot Diane a concerned look at bit her lip. "Dad seems . . . to be paralyzed. He cannot walk or feel his legs."

Yael huffed. The tensions were getting high and they weren't even in yet. His eyes landed on Jynn and Mabel, and it lingered before he would respond to Henry. "Be careful then." Yael then jumped off Henry's shoulders, running across the floor between the legs of figures heading inside. He decided that instead of Daruk, he would join someone else. He jumped on Jynn's back, crawing up on his clothes and then reaching his shoulder. Then from Jynn's shoulder, he jumped onto Mabel's shoulder. The Ferret shapehsifter would curl around her shoulders and neck, huffing from having to run all the way. "Don't mind me, Mabel. Just hitching a ride as a fabulous scarf." He joked. Not to mentioned it also offered some defense. Should anything or anyone attack Mabel, he could transform and serve as a defense against them. He remembered Vivifica from his previous life and yet...he knew not what to expect, as it had been so many lives ago, after all.

- Arkane (Umbra Court) – Caravans: Vivifica Forest–
Arkane would watch them disappear into the temple, and he could only hope that fortune be upon them and that nothing went wrong. But he was not always optimistic when it came to mages. Pride was one of the deadliest sins, after all. How many wars have happened because one side refused to admit their wrongs? He sighed, his attention turning to look around the people that remained, eyes landing on Eleanor. He approached at the sight of her holding her head. "Feeling under the weather? After such a long journey and the shit we've been through I would not blame you for it." He mused, huffing as he had his arms crossed. He was obviously displeased at the situation, but what could he do? Nothing. He could do nothing but wait and hope for things to go right. Before he could complain further, however, they were attacked. He lifted his head, only just noticing the birds that had gathered in the sky in a large flock. "What the-" And then they attacked. Swooping down and pecking at the mages like projectiles. Arkane yelped, raising his arms to cover his head from the incoming attacks. "What are these things?! Magpies?!" He yelled. Or maybe Vivifica had finally betrayed them and didn't see them fit to go down in any other way rather than with birds. He could barely reach for his cards as it was, the birds obscured his view of the people around him, and every part was being pecked at, skin already turning red from the assault in places. "How annoying...get off me!" He hissed. He reached into his deck, pecked fingers attempting to pull out the right card. He aimed one at the sky above him, wincing in pain at the birds attacking him. "Curse of Destruction: Twister!" He yelled, the painted the sigyl on the card glowing as wind began to pick up around it. From the card, a twister shot up into the air, pulling what it could into it along for the ride.

- Vincent (Ignis Court) –En route to Vicus Elbii–

Vincent hit the roof of the carriage hard, his hooks disengaging from where they held. "Incarose!" He yelled, Shiroo already going to help her from falling off the already falling carriage. He looked around, eyes flashing everywhere. What could he do? Pali was already straining himself on magic. He couldn't do anything. Could either of the other two do something? Vincent winced and he heard something distinct crack. He had to force himself to reach to his pocket, feeling around when he pulled out what it was. Wait. It was the compass! He brought it with him! The small pieces of glass had shattered at the force of the fall, and inside...the small piece of Itika. And like that his eyes lit in realization. "Pali!!!" He screamed. He ripped the top piece off, pulling out the piece of Itika that remained encased before discarding the rest of the invention. He used his hands to snap the already small piece in half, making it smaller. One piece was quickly hidden in his pocket as he held onto the other. He shot out his hooks again, this time aiming near Pali before pulling to get to him. He grabbed a hold of him when he reached him with one hand, the other holding onto the Itika. "Pali." He hissed. They were falling so fast. They were not going to make it. "You need to break your oath this one time." He hissed, pressing the piece of Itika near Pali's mouth. "Use the Itika to regain your strength and control! Help us, Pali!!!"

- Arun (Ignis Court) –Sanctus Heights: Aquilla's Room –

Waves crashed against the shore, the sun shinning bright. Arun walked along the edge of the sea and beach, his feet sinking in the sand. He searched for seashells to adorn his sand castle. Oros sat down under an umbrella, book in hand. Before long he was approached by Arun, who held a whole seashell in his hands. "Look what I found!" The doctor settled the book down and admired the shell. "How beautiful. They say you can hear the ocean if you put your ear to it, you know." Arun nodded, leaning his ear to the shell. Only for him to be pinched by a not very happy crab that had made the shell its home. Arun yelled, pulling away before glaring at the shell. Just as he was about to throw it all the way into the water, Oros stopped him. "No wait! Arun, do not throw it!" He scolded, standing up and holding the shell. "You should be kind to everyone. Even the creatures. It was surely spooked by you picking up his house." He mused, Arun frowning. The young mage set down the seashell, and the crab would proceed to hurry away with his house. Oros patted his head. "See? Much better. If a giant creature picked up your house and put their ear to its windows, I'm sure you would have the same response." He teased. He had gotten older. Both of them had.

"You never come to the court." Arun said, watching the waves cover his feet. "I am not allowed in the court. I am a doctor, not a mage." "But there are plenty of people who come in the court who are not mages! You could come and see me practice, or for my graduation, anything!" Oros sighed. "You know that I cannot. I need to stay here. But I am not going anywhere, so you can visit me whenever you want." He smiled. Arun frowned. "It's not fair. How come I get to go but you don't?" The doctor settled his book back down and opened his arms. Oros pulled Arun closer and held him, humming softly. "Because you are stronger and better than what I am. I helped create you, and you can have a better future. I cannot possibly hold you back. You are being allowed to leave this haven and call the court of Ignis home. Do not waste this opportunity." Oros insisted. Arun groaned, closing his eyes and enjoying the seasalt breeze.

"Become strong and prove your father wrong. Prove to the humans that we are alive too."

- Pali Noirtier, Umbra Court, freefalling and faced with a dangerous choice -

Pali had tried to concentrate for as long as he could, but in the end it was all for naught. The horses leading the carriage must have faltered and disappeared just like the Dullahan, and they were locked in a mind-splitting fall from great heights. The situation could not have been more dire, but Vincent pressing the chalky substance near his mouth brought him back. Power existed at his lips, the familiar reek of an illegal power for so many generations: Itika. It was rare to come by, but he had witnessed it once or twice, tasted its sickly odour, and now it lay before him. Whether it was out of self-preservation or for all, it was tough to say, but Pali took a bite of the magical material and brought it into his mouth, feeling and tasting its disgusting nature as it slid along his tongue. And then? Power. Imbibed or eaten, Itika can be quite potent and readily absorbed by the body, and the power spike was enormous just by the dust and flecks that dissolved and slid down his throat.

Pali rose to full attention and steepled his hands, his eyes focused on the open door that Shiroo and Incarose were at. Shiroo's chain would grow longer, and would aim for Incarose with great speed in an effort to retrieve her back into the cabin. Furthermore, the carriage would slow to a featherbound fall into what looked like a small clearing within trees along an marginal slope, as would Incarose if she was still in sight. The troubles so far were over, as far as he could tell, and Pali spat the Itika in his mouth into his open palm.

"My thanks, Vincent," he voiced to his Ignis compatriot, feeling better than he had for a while now. His wound had knit itself together, his brain felt much less frazzled, and his normal temperament --if he had such a thing -- was restored due to a boosted wishful thinking. "Had you provided the Itika later rather than then, we might have been smashed along with the carriage in the wilderness, with no one to discover us. However"--he eyed the man suspiciously--"how did you get your hands on such a piece? Did Ignis focus efforts on the usage and study of this illicit substance as well?"

He put his eyes back on the Itika in his hand and dried it off by wicking away the moisture, leaving only the powdery and soft substance. There was precious little left of it, the rest dissolved in his mouth and swallowed. Pali wondered of the repercussions. Never had he heard of people eating Itika before, but he already felt wrong, and yet so powerful.

((That's it for now. More will come probably tomorrow.))

- Vincent (Ignis Court) –En route to Vicus Elbii–
Vincent fell, his back slamming against the floor once they had slowly come to a halt, practically floating down onto a clearing on the ground rather than crash land and hope for the best. The man groaned in pain, deciding that he would lay down on the floor and enjoy the feeling of being alive for a few minutes. "Is...everyone alright? Shiroo? Incrarose? Pali?" He asked, rolling over and grunting. Damn it, was he getting old already? He lifted his head as he was questioned over the itika, which he should have expected on hindsight. The Ignis member sat up, rubbing the back of his neck. "I borrowed a very small piece in Sanctus Heights. The research department has small amounts of Itika in order to study it properly. I had to borrow a piece to create a compass to try and find the source of magic from that automaton. All of that stuff. Not really Ignis, more of me wishing to use what I can in order to advance our investigation." He pushed himself onto his feet, brushing the dust off. "Anyways. I forgot to hand the piece back since we are still investigating. It was a fight or flight instinct, and we were not really flying." He looked up at Pali, and then at the powdery substance in his hand. "It was a very small piece. Barely a few grains of rice. But at least it was enough, and I am glad." He gave Pali a warily smile. "Besides...what the courts don't know won't hurt us. But...desperate times calls for desperate measures."

Vincent's mentioning of finding a piece of experimental Itika in Sanctus Heights of all places especially made Pali curious, wondering who was in the process of researching it and why. Was it Court-sanctified research, or did it go higher? The older man was ever a suspicious individual, but Vincent did seem genuine and the story strangely legitimate.

"What the courts don't know won't hurt us," he parroted in finality, glancing at Anya first and later Shiroo after giving Vincent the piece of Itika back. "That would be for the best. Make no mention of this to anyone outside our inner circle, especially Maester Gerik. The last thing I want is for him to breathe down my neck with anti-illicit-substance statements."

While this was for the most part true, Pali figured that the more harrowing possibility was for Gerik to blackmail him with the knowledge. That man and his blackmail was something to behold, even if it was to be held with distinct resentment by those blackmailed.

"Your youthful new court member should be all right. I had her descend as well just as slowly. The carriage has seen better days, but wood can easily be remedied. The door maybe not, especially since it has been warped by magic very different from my own. We will need everyone to be on their best behavior on the rest of the trip and not move much if we are left with an open cab. This time, however, I am driving. No Dullahan, and no--I hope--striking me on the head thinking that will better the matter at hand."

He brought his eyes full-bore onto Shiroo as he said this last sentence.

Jari glanced up with startlement at Kolm's entrance to the library, then joy at seeing another person. Setting down the tome in his hand and bookmarking it with his finger, he rose from the armchair he presided.

"Indeed so, though I am not exactly certain of what I am doing," he answered with a bark of a laugh, scratching his ear. "Nobody was here when I arrived, and all I can guess at was what books were left open or lying around. Tedious does sound like the right word, though." He looked at the young man who stood before him, probably a few years younger than he was at 24 years of age, and maybe a head taller, but not easily recognisable. "I'm sorry, but what's your name? I don't think we have met yet. Are you a mage as well?"

The older maester glanced about the true site of the temple with great interest, feeling the difference even from such a rich environment as that outside of the illusion. Illusion . . . was that even what it was? The change was just so sudden. Regardless, he could feel the vitality, the energy ridden within the encapsulating plant life that surrounded them. He wondered what could cause this, and if such an Eden could exist everywhere on the continent, not just in one forest.

"There is quite the beauty here," he had to confess. "The world could definitely benefit from a pilgrimage to this at least once in their lifetime, if only to see what it could be like to live inside a place rich in natural vibrancy."

But at what cost? he wondered internally and grimly. The people outside of this rich scape, even the very citizens of those who care for the forest, are suffering while this place flourishes and becomes ever brighter. Was it even naturally this way? Is it possible that Itika is fueling this location, bringing about a prosperity these people previously have only dreamed about? When will it expand to the citizens if so? Will it expand to the citizens? He did not know what would occur regarding this, but perhaps that can be brought up to Aislynn once they meet with her, and if his thoughts regarding Itika were correct.

Richter begins to take the group inside, and the court shows it’s true form. Mabel was in awe, remarking about how beautiful it was. Jynn slightly nods. “Yea. This is my home. Where I grew up, and where I was trained.” Melstrome and Magellan pass by the group, Mel being excited to browse the overgrown grasses again, and Magellan perches on a nearby structure, safe from the outside world.

Mabel would then tell Richter and Elliott that they could bring Aislinn out to greet them, they bring the group to her, or they could allow Aislinn to ready herself. Jynn steps forward, slightly in between Elliot and Mabel. “It would be wiser if we took an hour or two to prepare everyone, Aislinn and us. That way, Richter can have time to tell everyone to lower their weapons...” Jynn looks to Mabel and Elliot. “...and we can take this time to relax and lessen the tension as well. Nothing can be resolved peacefully when everyone is at each other’s throats.”

The Maestra of Somnum opted to remain silent for the rest of the conversation. Something in her gut kept telling her that, while they faced some troubles to reach this point, there was something else waiting for all of them. Going inside the temple was a strange experience, but not something unexpected. This place was full of life, she could feel it all around her. What was the source of such life, she wondered.

"I'm sorry to say, but one or two hours would be prolonging the unnecessary. If one person is enough to tell every mage in the court to lower their weapons then the rest of us can continue with our meeting with Miss Nosferi. Either one of these two gentlemen can go and deliver such message while the other can take us to Miss Nosferi," Nero said absentmindedly, "There's much to discuss and so little time, so wasting that time is not the best choice."

Nero stared in front of her, not at Mabel, or the two Vivifican mages, it was as if her gaze was looking at something way beyond what was actually there.

"This is my own opinion, of course. Whatever is decided by everyone, will be respected."

"Oh? My apologies. I was not aware that your sister was in prison." Diane replied.

"Well, when you are in the same tabern where the Lieutenant was attacked in, the authorities are quick to cast doub on anyone present, yes?" Vala said.

"Maybe we can take a trip to see if she is still in there and see if we can help her once my business here are finished." Diane said to Elia.

Diane and Vala followed Elia back to the room where the Lieutenant was resting. Sure enough, he was finally awake, that was a good sign. The lich could see how his gaze changed in an instant. That was undestandable.

"I am glad to see that you are finally awake, Lieutenant. I feared the worst, but it seems that Miss Hassan did a good job." Diane said.

"Words like those can hurt my feelings, you know?" Vala said as she rolled her eyes.

So the Lieutenant was unable to feel his legs. That was not a good sign. This had to be the work of the blue haired man before they were able to escape the tabern.

"I am so sorry to hear that, Lieutenant. Perhaps looking for help from the Somnum Court would be the best choice. I've heard that they have made strides in medical and healing practices in recent years. As for the reason as to why I am here is that we found some interesting reading material at your office and your home," Diane said calmly, "we found the name Irasbeth Tekkanororia interesting, and her notes even more. Something related to our mutual blue haired friend, itika and spirits taking mortal forms again."

Diane takes out the diary that has Tekkanororia's info and shows it to the Lieutenant.

"I think it's time for the whole truth, yes? we need to know who this blue haired individual is, what was his plan, what is the scope of your relationship with him," she said as she glances at Elia, "this has the potential to cause so much harm, not only to you, or me, or this city, but perhaps all of Regalia. We need to have all the information we ca get in order to know which path to take."

The dullahan was not giving up, that was for sure. Incarose could feel as the creature yanked at her hair in an attempt to get her off it, but she resisted, still trying to stab the monster. She could feel the force of Vincent's kick as the dullahan was effectively kicked out of the carriage, along with Incarose. Everything felt as if were moving in slow motion, she could see the faces of those inside the carriage, she could see the sky now too, and now the dullahan had disappeared.

"Oh no . . ." was all she could think.

Both the carriage and Incarose were falling at a fast speed towards the ground, there was nothing anyone could do. Pali was not doing good the last time she managed to take a glimpse. She could see how Shiroo managed to make a chain from somewhere. She attempted to grab it to go back into the falling carriage, but she couldn't grab the darn thing. She was getting nervous and anxious! But, somehow, the chain grew longer and she finally managed to grab the chain and return to the carriage. Once she made it back inside she remained laying down and breathing heavily.

"Let's not do that again, yes?" she said between breaths, "never again . . ."

{Gerik Lockford: Umbra Court; the Vivifica Court}
Gerik hung back, allowing the other Maester's to make the introduction. He had been ready for Jynn's condition to turn things ugly, but Vanis seemed to be more sensible than that. He was also pleased that Daruk was willing to talk. Also, leaving Lady Mia was highly agreeable to the Umbral Maester's mind. The Elders were a necessary part of the balancing act the Courts were engaged in, but there was times when the Maesters and Maestras needed to deal with things privately. At first, anyway. Mabel and Nero's agreement clenched it.
While matters of world balance dominated his mind, Gerik couldn't help noticing Arkane's behavior to the High Priestess. It was pleasing that he had managed to gain a rapport with her, though it might be best to have a private word with Arkane about getting too invested. This was a hard business if one let themselves get too emotionally involved.
With the group inside chosen, Gerik gave Micah a friendly pat on the shoulder.
"Wait with the others and keep me informed." He said with a reassuring smile.
Following the others, the Umbral Maester didn't seem surprised or impressed by the reveal of the true Vivifica Temple.
"I rather agree with Professor Nero." Gerik said, breaking his silence.
He treated both Elliot and Richter to a friendly smile.
"If your Maestra had good reason for this infraction, then it must be something of great impact upon our society. The sooner Aislinn explains the situation to us, the sooner we can fix it."
Aislinn would still need to be arrested, Gerik knew, even if she had a good reason. The council had to be appeased, and the people had to see justice done. But there were many ways "justice" could be applied, and even the Aislinn's loyalists like Richter and Elliot might be left alone. Just so long as the information she had was good.

The fairy mage slowly stepped out of the closet after a few moments more of waiting. She would then proceed towards the library, Duster in hand. Her posture was lofty. Balanced, in control. She did this thousands of times at Vivifica. Twas nothing different. As she entered she swiftly made her was to the left and began to start dusting off the shelves. Reading the titles of the books as she went. She had about an hour or two before the woman in the closet woke. At the same time she had to keep an eye and ear out for the mages around her.

The Dullahan's sudden appearance and use of Osmose caught her off guard. She felt dazed and confused as her mana was drained. She curled up as her light headed feeling was turned into pain by a screech of anger in her head. The bird was angry at the headless horseman trying to eat it. As the rest oif her party valiently dealt with the problem, the disappearance of the dullahan caused a surge of mana back to the Phoenix Bearer. Her Itika Tattoos when from inert to full blaze in moments.
"Excuse me." Anya grunted as she rolled out the open carriage door.

Wreathed in flames, Anya let out a roar of rage echoing the unheard one in her mind. Sadly, the horseman was not around to vent her anger on. She had enough control on the Pheonix Flames to prevent the carriage itself from becoming a target. As her flaming wings began to beat, she soared up to rejoin the carriage, taking a few swoops around it to burn off some excess power.

After word was spread throughout Vivifica to lower their guard, that no immediate threat would befall them, the tension within and outside of the temple eased. People went back to laughing and frolicking again, and more pleasantries were exchanged within the halls. Battle, let alone war, was not commonly whispered within the court, and, when it is mentioned, it is taken to the utmost seriousness. Several moments passed, and a woman with a beige, translucent gown of gauze and vines walked up to Richter, nodding at him before turning to the party.

"The Maestra will see you now," she voiced. "Please, allow me to escort you into the council room."

The walls were ancient and decrepit, ivy expanding along the worn stone. There was so much life and history within these walls, which only seemed to beckon Mabel with the utmost curiosity. Several turns, twists, and staircases later, the court leaders and companions would find themselves in a large circular room. A massive stone slab rested within the heart of the room, serving as a table, with wooden high-back chairs surrounding it from all sides. Entering from another entrance on the far left of the room was the Maestra Aislinn herself, at her side none other than Ronin of the Shade. A warm smile stretched the Maestra's lips as her gaze fell upon her fellow Maesters and Maestra, as though they were endeared family that she'd been separated from for ages. Her first inclination, however, was to Jynn. She strode up to her heir and would bring him in a tight embrace, if Jynn allowed it.

"Oh, dear child, how I have missed you so," she said, bringing a hand to his cheek as she released him from her embrace. A frown furrowed her brow as her gaze surveyed the scar that penetrated his gaze. "Goodness me! What ever happened? Who did this to you?!"

She would keep a hand on his shoulder protectively as she turned to face Mabel, who was close to Jynn's side the entire time. The elder of the two women would lower her gaze to meet Mabel's. "Priestess," she barely said with a respectful nod, before moving past the two and moving toward Daruk, Nero, and Gerik in turn, offering them each a hug if they accepted.

"Welcome to the Temple of Life, a place where we cherish and celebrate tranquility and life. It is my greatest honor to have you all here within my home. Please, take a seat! Is there anything that we can get you to make your stay more comfortable?"

Maestra Aislinn would resume her place at the head of the table, gesturing on either side of her for the others to take their seat of choice. She mouthed "thank you" to Richter before everyone had been seated, grateful that he had been able to establish peaceful negotiations–or at least for now, before anyone would have to shed blood.

Isabelle, Eden, and Zion had likely noticed the court leaders pass through, and had been made aware that a council would take place. Should they decide to enter, it is unlikely that they would be barred from entering.

The birds that were consumed by Arkane's cyclone seemed to stretch into inky blobs, and just . . . disappear. The others would notice that the birds would seem to be flying . . . through them, but not particularly causing any real harm, with the exception of obscuring vision. Mia would leave her carriage and lean against a cane. She hadn't had this cane all along, but perhaps it had multiple purposes than merely for balance.

"What in blazes is going on out here?!" she demanded in Arkane's ear.

Meanwhile, the veil had been lifted upon the Temple of Life, granting entry to the bounty hunters. They were likely concealed from view by the birds which swarmed the court mages, unless any of them were paying careful attention and were able to catch a glimpse of the temple through the sea of birds. Tibarn wasted no time in charging toward the temple, while Vaike seemed rather preoccupied and fell behind in the group. He was chanting something, gaze unmoving from the birds in the sky. Someone would likely have to yank him in the direction of the temple, as he full attention was upon the illusions that he was casting to distract the court mages.

Shiroo laughed nervously, scratching his cheek as he responded to the elder Umbra mage. "Uh, yeah, s-sure, of course! Sorry for the rash decision. I was trying to better an already poor situation, though seems that I just made it even worse. But"–he rose a finger indignantly–"I did get rid of the creature, did I not?"

It occurred to the Ignis mage that this was perhaps not the best point to argue. He clamored back into the carriage, seating himself across from Anya and shoving his hands in his pockets. It was growing late, and the fight exhausted him. Shiroo leaned his head against the side of the carriage, very much looking forward to their arrival in Vicus Elbii. After several hours they would fly over Vetulonia, and by then it was well into the night. If they traveled nonstop they could arrive in Vicus Elbii by noon, though at that point they would likely be well exhausted. Vetulonia was a milling village, small and quaint. They could likely find lodging in Vetulonia if they so wished to stay, or they could continue on to Vicus Elbii post haste if they desired.

"Oh, yeah, of course," Kolm said distractedly, offering Jari a hand to shake. "My name is Kolm Diarisso. Sorry, I feel that I've seen you in passing but I think you're right in that proper introductions were never made. And your name was . . . ?" He squinted slightly at the fox boy wannabe. Was he mistaken? Maybe he hadn't seen him in person. All of these mages were starting to look alike to him!

"I'm a mage that has an affinity toward ice, regrettably, though I have yet to be placed in a court, if I even have the talents to land myself in one." Audible pause. "I have heard it is quite the challenge to prove one's self into one. You're an Ignis mage, yes?"

Kolm didn't so much as glance in Quinn's direction, the maid look-alike going completely undetected. She was a natural at housekeeping and looking the part. The first row of books that her gaze would skim over were simply cookbooks, the next shelf getting more into the history of Regalia. Some books were rather fat, others thinner with worn leather bindings. One was dated back three-hundred years, with a very worn binding and words that were barely legible, reading "The Makings of a Nation". Some others were titled "The Outskirts, and Why They are Named Such," and "Celebrating 1000 Years". From a swift glance Quinn would also be able to see that there were many categories on ancient magic, Itika, the courts, medicine, sciences, and academic journals, though they were scattered throughout the library. The shelves containing the books on magic, specifically, were behind Jari and his table.

–Sanctus Heights: The Elvenwind–
Elrandir Elrandir (Diane)

The lieutenant appeared increasingly uneasy as the conversation between himself and Diane wore on. He glanced over toward Elia, who hung her head in shame, before turning to face Diane. "T'would seem that you were able to de-riddle the ramblings of a dying man," he murmured under his breath, before sighing. "I cannot say if this is for the better or worse. Perhaps I shouldn't have shared all of my findings so readily, but it was the only chance that I had at protecting Elia, and so I felt that I had little choice. I suppose it is only befitting that you have some of your questions answered. But first"–he glances toward Elia–"how about you go check on your sister, dear? She has probably been locked away for some time. Maybe this kind lady can be of service to you."

This "kind lady" was Vala in this particular instance. Elia pouted, ready to protest. "But, Dad–"

"I know, you also want answers . . . . But Elia, please, listen to me. The truth is a dangerous thing, and the less you know, the safer you are. Please believe me."

"No!" Elia burst out, slamming both palms on a nearby table, causing the lamp atop it to shake. "I am tired of being treated like the child that cannot know anything. I have already been brought in too deep, been asked questions that I have no idea what the answers are, and have been accused of animating an automaton. I demand to know what's going on, and I believe that I deserve to know. I won't leave until you tell me and Diane what is going on."

A long sigh followed by a grimace sounded from Lieutenant Mastiff. He reached for his side, before finally shaking his head in defeat. "I suppose . . . you have a point. I still view you as a little girl, Elia, but it seems that you have indeed grown up before my very eyes and are no longer that small child that I promised your mother that I would look after."

"Tell us," Elia reminded him, eyes narrowing.

"Well, if you have read my notes, then you are already aware of a force working beyond anything we can truly reckon with," the lieutenant said, shifting his gaze toward Diane. "I will spare you what you already know. This all started when I noticed . . . . Odd behavior surrounding Elia. Sometimes she was not herself, asking me curious questions and storing books on ancient and forbidden magic in her room. I was growing increasingly concerned, and began sifting through what she had been secretly storing. The runes on the automaton, they were dark magic, the summoning of a demon god. In hindsight, I have reason to believe that this demon god was summoned into the automaton.

"When I found Elia's locket on the crime scene, my mind went into overdrive. The evidence from the night prior suggesting that Elia had been at the scene of the crime only further convinced me of what I'd already known for some time: Elia was being possessed, by something or someone, and I needed to do everything that I could to ensure that she wouldn't be convicted of the crimes that were not hers.

"I spent a solid couple of days without sleep just reading, reading, and researching, tearing my own library apart and searching for any information on what could be possessing my beloved daughter. It was within Tekkanororia's journal that I realized Elia was being drawn into something darker, and when I began unfurling the missing puzzle pieces to Tenebris.

"I'm sorry for misleading you," he apologized to Diane. "I wasn't entirely certain, and I had to conduct the investigation in a manner that looked authentic, all the while buying me some time to protect my daughter from being proven guilty. But, for what it's worth, I have no connection with the Tenebris court; apparently that man with blue-hair must've caught on to what I was discovering, as he found me within the girls' apartment and roped me up. He claimed that I knew too much, could ruin his plans with meeting with the others."

- Yael/Nahum (Unaffiliated) – Caravans: Vivifica Forest–

Yael would remain quiet, pretending to be a ferret scarf around Mabel's neck as he witness the Maestra. His eyes followed her, albeit he remained quiet. Even when she addressed Mabel, albeit with home hesitance. The shapeshifter would curl a bit tighter around Mabel when no one was looking and eyes snapped to Jynn. When she asked how to make them comfortable, Yael was very tempted to ask for food, but he remained still. Yael was a man of the dramatics, even when he meant well, and he would just allow his presence to remain as a scarf until his presence was required.

- Vincent (Ignis Court) –En route to Vicus Elbii–
Vincent just witnessed as Anya went ham on nothing, unleashing her repressed fury (as she should). He merely kept quiet, watching as they discussed, and then eventually hurried back inside the carriage to resume their trip. He would look up at Pali and raised a shrug. "I won't say a thing about it if you don't. I only have an even smaller piece left to give back to Sanctus Heights once all of this is over anyways. But if we have to use it again...I do not think it would be bad." He admitted, looking away. He had been drilled into his head how much bad it can do, and it can. The addiction was powerful, much like any drug. But properly controlled he has seen how it worked. It powered his device, it saved their asses with Pali; was it really that bad in such small amounts when they could do so much good? "I feel like we should hurry and head straight to Vicus Elbii. But pushing you far will not do us well, either. I believe we can find a place to stay at Vetulonia. But I will leave the judgement to you, Pali." Vincent said, rubbing the back of his head and entering the carriage. He wanted to sleep for days and never have to suffer such a terrifying experience again for a long while.

- Arkane (Umbra Court) – Caravans: Vivifica Forest–

Arkane watched as it was just...an illusion? The wind merely made them stretch and disappear into nothing, only for the rest of the birds to keep on doing what they were doing. Yet they were not real. They were a trick of the eyes and mind, even as it obscured their vision terribly. When he was yelled at by the old hag, Arkane snapped his head towards her, glaring as the used up card was pulled away. "Do not yell in my ear!" He yelled back. He pointed at the birds. "Someone is playing a prank on us." He hissed. But honestly? Why this? Was it a way to intimidate them? Maybe to bully them? Who knew. Even if he tried to look around for the source, it was hard to find it with the illusion blocking their path, and a dumb illusion was not worth to waste his cards on.

- Arun (Ignis Court) –Sanctus Heights: En route to the Grand Cathedral Library -
"Become strong and prove your father wrong. Prove to the humans that we are alive too."

Arun has excused himself from Aquila and Vlad, figuring that Aquilla would be more talkative if there weren't two people in her room and rather just one questioning her. The more he was allowed to remember, the more he wondered. And he was here at the library. So he wondered if maybe he could find some answers. He had been there before, walking down the stairs as his hurried steps left echoes against the marble floors. He entered the library hoping to clear his mind of the doubts. Would he even find the answers he sought out? Eyes landed on the individuals that were already there, blinking a few times. Oh. Jari and Quinn were already there. He knew neither of them closely, but he knew of their existence regardless. He quietly walked up, eyes scanning the shelves. How would he even bring this up? Oh hey hello how are you do you have any books on magical creations cause I have a nagging suspicious I might not be what i think I am? But what came out as he approached the three was a simple and quiet. "Evening."

{Gerik Lockford: Umbra Court; the Temple Of Life - Interior}
Gerik Lockford followed the woman in beige, carefully observing his surroundings. The atmosphere here was...interesting. There was tension, but not desperation. Either Aislinn was playing things close to the chest even from her court, or there was something that made the fear of the wraith of the council seem less imminent. While many things could explain this, the two that occupied Gerik’s imagination were the ideas that a) the believed they were in the right and felt they could justify their actions, or b) they had a significant edge to make the fear of the other 3 Courts combined might. Both were concerning and not even exclusive.
The Umbral Maester was still mulling over the options when the party’s journey had ended and they were brought to Marstra Aislinn. While he would never admit it openly, Gerik counted Aislinn going to Jynn first as a good sign. While dealing with high ranking guests first was the normal way of things, one’s own people were also important. And if the leader of the Vivfica Court could not be counted on to first check on her people, then what was the point of Vivifca anyway. When Aislinn came around with her greetings, Gerik politely declined the hug. But gave a formal bow and offered a kiss to her hand as a consolation, should she choice to accept. Gerik had never been much of a hugger before, and years in the Umbra Court had further dissuaded that trait.
“While I would enjoy some refreshments” Gerik said as he took a seat, hanging his hat on the back of his chair as he sat down “sadly, the reason for our coming to your lovely temple is dire enough that I feel we need to proceed with business. You’ve caused quite a stir, my dear. The Council is livid. And you have your fellow court leaders and friends quite concerned for your well being.”
The Umbral Maester leaned forward.
“What’s this all about, Aislinn?”

As Daruk continued glancing around the inner sanctum of the forest, he more and more felt a sense of unease being among them. Maybe it was the fact that they were seemingly unaware of the position thrust upon them regarding Vivifica's Itika usage, or maybe it was their manner of dressing in see-through gauze and vines, but something did not sit well with him. What did aid him was the fact that Aislinn did indeed accept them, her choice of company notwithstanding. He had heard the tales of Ronin of Many Names, but this was the first time he recalled seeing him outside of rough sketches that more-or-less composed of his features.

Missing his chance of group hugging both Gerik and Aislinn (and Henry, he mentally added) by being a bit afar from all at the moment, Daruk had to accept an embrace with Aislinn alone, pulling her into a bear hug with his meaty hands. The Maestra certainly had not lost her charm in his eyes. After all, a good hug is the best introduction! Gwa ha!

"Besides the latest edition of Walla Beach Inquirer," he replied after sitting at the provided table, "I cannot think of much. However, I do agree with my fellow Maester. The Council is up at arms about your latest stance, and I for one want to know why this is the case." He leaned further in, the table and chair probably creaking under his mass. "Aislinn, I worry for you. I feel that you have some plan in mind, but consorting with something so historically dangerous and breeding distrust within the Elders, well, surely there is a better strategem."

Seeing the hand in front of him, Jari was more than happy to smile and take Kolm's extended hand in fellowship.

"Jari Coriander," he replied with mirth, eyes shining as he released his hold. "You would be surprised by our standards in Somnum -- that's where I am from, though I did indeed hail from Ignis through lineage -- but Ignis always seems to be accepting those who have the diligence to work hard. However, with your affinity for ice, I daresay you might be a better fit for my court. It matches my element quite nicely." Rubbing his fingers together, he caused a bit of static electricity to form within his hand, tiny bolts arcing between his fingers. "Given time and control, your latent talents can only grow and adjust. Perhaps if you show me your ability, I can give you a recommendation when my Maestra comes back."

He looked towards Quinn, unsure of why a maid was in the library, but like with Kolm she looked the part and did not seem suspicious at all to him. Jari instead was surprised when Arun entered the room with a quiet "Evening." Now he felt sheepish, especially considering he felt a little disinclined to speak with him after the failed interaction during this morning's breakfast, but he answered, "Good evening" back in a chipper manner, trying to maintain poise.

"Are you, er, are you here to do research as well?" he asked in continuance shortly thereafter.

Pali's eyes burrowed into Shiroo with increased animosity. In his eyes, the boy was man enough to admit his rashness, but truly did not know when to shut his mouth. WIth a shake of his head, he broke away his gaze and focused on Vincent instead.

"Well, I appreciate it," he replied, to either or to both of them. "I do not need negative repercussions in these interesting times, especially considering it was a do-or-die situation. For now, rest if you can, and at other times look outside of this box. We are riding nonstop." Stepping outside of the carriage and seating himself on the head of the wagon, he muttered under his breath: "One less dullahan of lesser make to worry about as well. I will need to choose my command scripts so that this will never happen again."

With the spectral horses summoned and everyone reentered into the body of the carriage, Pali continued the trek to Vicus Elbii. The trip, while exhaustive, was less so than if led by the dullahan because he had less to concentrate on, but taking command of the ghostly equines was not easy without the right touch. The dullahan was as the stories told -- a rider and driver of cruel renown -- and because he was perhaps less strict and used laced words instead of the whip upon the horses he had suffered in terms of time, but they had made it, and that is what truly mattered to Pali. Dabbing his brow with a kerchief, the coach unsummoned the beasts and opened the door for his compatriots.

The midday sun beat down upon a haggard-looking young old man who spent the night driving, and he thanked his powers for preventing the dangerous situation of lack of sleep from ever becoming a thing. Sleep was very much a thing of the past, and he did not need such a distasteful thing in his repertoire, though he did need to recharge in some other manner. Perhaps Shiroo would provide him enough energy through fear if he ran him down like the Hunter of the Mordus Mountains? No, the others would know. Instead he put on a false grin and prepared for what was to come. The men and women within the coach were no doubt tired from all of the shaking and rattling of the carriage, and when they decided to have down-time he would go out and enjoy a . . . personal festivity of a feeding to refresh him.

After a few lazy circles, Anya settled down enough to rejoin the others at the carriage. Of course Pali and Shiroo were still having a scene.
"Boys, you're both pretty." Anya said, sizzling slightly as she touched the ground. "We can discuss this further with sleep and food."
As Shiroo, Incarose, and Vincent enter the cabin, Anya took a moment to pat Pali on the knee.
"Forgive the lad, Pali." She said softly, in a soothing tone. "He's brash, but some lessons must be learned the hard way. You wouldn't believe how I first found out about dullahan and what happened to both me and it. Lesson learned. Thanks for keeping us going."
Hoping that would help smooth some feathers, Anya took her seat across from Shiroo. She settled back for a nap, her tattoos still faintly glowing.

With Pali's opening the coach door at their destination, Anya stretched and yawned. Life as a troubleshooter for Ignis had taught her how to sleep in most situations.
"Ah, well done Pali!" She said brightly as she stepped out.
The Phoenix Bearer took a few deep breaths, than turned back to her Umbra companion.
"How are you holding together?' She prompted. "That must have taken a lot out of you."
While she wasn't sure Pali's exact details, Anya did know a thing or two about Shaw's, or more accurately, Lockford's agents. They were usually more than meets the eye. And considering the inclinations of the Umbra Court's members, Pali's hidden depths might be a bit dangerous.

{Valery: Vivifca Court; Vivifica Forest - Caravan}
Ridding up on an indrik mount, Valery came upon the combined courts caravan dealing with the bird swarm. Or, at least, the illusion of a swarm. This confused Valery, as this hardly seemed like a Vivifica defense or an effective rouse by the other courts to breech the temple's defenses. With a wave of her hand, the Vivifca Warden sent a few blasts of concentrated light to further dispel the illusion.
"What's all this then?" Valery's familiar, settling in on her shoulder as her mount came to a stop.
It was one of the phrases it knew by heart.
"Be you from the courts to the north?" The familiar continued, translating the sign language Valery was flashing the caravan members.

The current situation felt like it had been going on by days, weeks, or even months. The Maestra could feel the tension, even when she herself was calm as the surface of a still lake. The times she had been inside the Temple of Vivifica were not as many as one would think, considering her status as Maestra of Somnum. Finally, after what seemed forever, a woman with a beige, translucent gown of gauze and vines showed up, spoke with Richter and offered to escort the group to see the maestra of Vivifica. Nero gave a simple nod of recognition and followed after their hosts.

The Temple itself was one magnificent work of art, one that held untold tales and ancient knowledge stored within its walls. But whatever knowledge was stored in there was of no importance for the moment, only a certain knowledge that the Maestra of Vivifica possessed was what truly mattered.

In time they would reach a large circular room with a massive stone slab in the center, surrounded by wooden high-back chairs. From the opposite side of the room came Maestra Nosferi herself, along with another person not known to the Maestra of Somnum. And, as obvious as it is to breath, instead of focusing on her fellow maesters, Aislinn when for her heir first, quickly noticing the boy's injury in the process. This was a good quality to have. She then would give each of her fellow maesters a hug. Gerik obviously declined, offering a kiss on her hand instead. Daruk, well, he was Daruk, so a bear hug was to be expected. As for Nero herself, she accepted the hug and gave one in return, it felt as if she was embracing a long lost sister. She would stay like that for a few seconds before letting her fellow maestra go, then took seat in one of the chairs when she was offered.

"While I would love to have some tea from this region, I must agree with Gerik and Daruk, Aislinn," Nero said in a relaxed tone, "I'm afraid that our current situation begs us to carry on with the business at hand. Your latest activities have not been seen with good eyes by the Elders and by some court mages. I think it's fair to say that your actions have been quite controversial, to say the least."

Nero took a little bit of time to look around, mostly to see who was in the room, there was some amount of tension still in the air, after all.

"You not showing up when you were summoned did more harm than good to your reputation, and considering the current situation, I do not think that is a good thing. Then we have the display given by one archmage and her threats towards the council, while the heir was left behind by said archmage to deal with the aftermath of her actions alone," Nero said as she glanced at Jynn, "Quite commendable for someone as young as him, I must say. A good trait for a future maester to have. But we are not here to talk about heirs and rogue archmages, we need to talk about the situation with Vivifica and the harvesting of Itika."

- Diane Corbeau - Court of Umbra - Sanctus Heights: Elvenwind -
Mystics Apprentice Mystics Apprentice

Diane was quick to turn around to look at Elia once her emotions bursted. Vala, on the other hand, was a little surprised at this display.

"Now now, dear. Remember that your father is still recovering," she said as she rubbed her shoulders to attempt to calm her down, "let's not raise our voices, and don't let emotions get the better of us, yes?"

"I do have to agree on this, Elia. We do not know the full details, so let's be calm and let the Lieutenant explain," Diane said before looking at the Lieutenant, "as for you Lieutenant, it seems that you finally realized that Elia is no longer a child, that she deserves answers for a situation that she had no knowledge about. Let's hear what you have to say."

Listening to the Lieutenant's explanation was quite interesting. It seemed that Elia had been possessed before this even started, probably by the blue haired man himself. She had been correct with the runes in the automaton. They were used to make dark magic, blood used as a catalyst was a form of ancient magic in a sense, as mages used it to cast spells in the past. The way the automaton behaved was also strange at the time, but this could help explain that situation.

"Dark magic can be quite problematic, as you all know," Vala said, "and for someone who cannot control this kind of power, it's no surprise the automaton went out of control."

"The rune used blood as a catalyst, making it stronger but more volatile," Diane answered, "If whoever was controling Elia to summon something and having it possess the automaton then used the destruction and the lives lost to gain power then that would explain our blue haired friend and how he gained access to the mortal realm once more."

The moment the Lieutenant mentioned Tenebris, Diane's eyes focused on him.

"Tenebris . . ." Diane whispered to no one in particular, "I feel that I've heard that name at some point in the past, yet I cannot fully recall the exact details besides the name."

"Oh? Tenebris is just a myth, Diane. A legendary court that fell in disgrace, a court before the Four Courts," Vala said as she waved her hand, "a myth without any proof of its existence. Why would such a renowed person be interested in a myth? There's no records that mention this so called Tenebris as if it were a real court, after all."

Irasbeth Tekkanororia could be the lead that was needed to fully unravel the mysteries that surrounded this case. The blue haired man was another piece of the puzzle, one that they had yet to find.

"If this person thought you were an important piece to be removed from the board, Lieutenant, then yes, it seems you know too much. That also means that both of your daughters could be in danger," Diane said to the Lieutenant, "We have no leads on the whereabouts of the blue haired man, nor do we know if he is still within the city. And trust me, a few of the mages attempted to find him, with no luck. Tekkanororia is an important piece that holds important information, information that some of the court mages are in route to attempt to obtain."

"That leaves a problem for you to dealth with. To find the blue haired man while making sure the Lieutenant and his daughters remain safe, yes?" Vala said to Diane, "His other daughter could be in danger if she is without any form of protection right now. Perhaps a visit is in order?"

This had been quite the intense trip to Vicus Elbii, not one that would be easily forgoten in the years to come. Maybe one day it would be a funny anecdote to tell the children, but this was not that day. Incarose had zoned out for what it felt like quite a while, even if it only was a few minutes. Falling of the sky was . . . was quite something. Hey, maybe it could be turned into some kind of form of recreation, with the correct safety precautions, of course. And that was a huge MAYBE. Or maybe she lost her mind on the way down. Who could say.

"Like I said, let's not do that again. Ever, if possible," she said as she slowly went back into the carriage, "It was not a fun experience, but we managed to survive by working together so, thank you Vincent, Shiroo, Anya and Pali."

She was very, very tired at that point that she passed out for exhaustion immediately after the journey reasumed. It would be quite a few more hours before they arrived at their destination. She would dream of falling into a black void of nothingness, sometimes seeing a bright red flame-like creature following after her in the distance, others just endless falling. Once the group arrived at their destination, Incarose would come out of the carriage and stretch a little. Her whole body ached from the day before, but she was ready to do what they had come to do.

- Vincent (Ignis Court) – Vicus Elbii–
"Do not thank me. Thank Pali for being capable of dragging our asses all the way over to Vicus Elbii." Vincent ended up falling asleep for the rest of the ride. The whole near-death experience was not good for his health, and he swore he would end up returning older than when he left Sanctus Heights. He only woke up at the announcement that the had arrived at Vicus Elbii, and in one piece may they add. That on itself was a miracle considering the shit that they went through. He opened his eyes, blinking as he wobbly stepped out of the carriage. His messy hair was still hidden under his cap, and it took him a few steps and stretches for him to fully wake up. He stretched up, down, side to side, and gave a twirl before looking back at the group, quickly forming a smile on his lips. "Alright, team! We are looking for a specific individual! And her name is Irasbeth Tekkanororia!" He said, taking out his notebook. "According to the rumors she was discredited due to her claims. However, whether she is mad or sane, she is the connection to these journals and the author of them." He returned the journal back into his coat and looked back at the group. "Now, these claims have forced her to retire and be ostracized...therefore we must be delicate when questioning her in regards to it. But let us do our best." His eyes landed back to Pali. "I know we have already asked so much of you. But since you know her personally, would you happen to know where she lives, too?"
Tekkanororia - Author of the journals. She encountered the Wraiths but was not believed by the court elders.

Valley of Magic - Where mages are laid to rest. The area is known for being a natural ground for Itika.

Wraiths of the First Court - Encountered by Tekkanororia. They claim to be from the first court. They are very powerful. The Elders of the Courts deny their existence.

Elia - Was tormented by a voice of a man and possessed momentarily by him.
"He said strange things, like souls granting him the power of rebirth. How the people would pay for their betrayal."
"...my magic would suffice his needs..."

VESSELS (For the First Court members???)

  • Pali Noirtier (Caelum? Note: He says that it's the name of his ancestor.)
  • Iseult Mylis
  • Elia Cabret (?)
  • Aislinn Nosferi
  • Vlad Von Redir (Former vessel. Ref. Ballad of the Butcher)
  • Tibarn Llang
  • Absalom Sagus
THOUGHTS
Souls are trying to be reborn in 'vessels' by possessing them to accomplish their agenda. What do they want? Revival?
Who were these members of the first courts?
Maybe Aislinn is also being possessed? It could explain the unexpected behavior.

Very powerful wraiths of the first court ⟶ powerful enough to possess people ⟶ said possessed are known as Vessels (People who are suitable for possession) ⟶ Reason: Revenge (?) ⟶ Profit (?)

- Arun (Ignis Court) –Sanctus Heights: Grand Cathedral Library –
Arun remained with his hands behind his back, standing tall but shily as he usually did. "Um...yes. A...personal matter." He admitted to Jari, approaching the group. "I did not mean to interrupt. I was with Vlad and Aquila, but I read somewhere that three is a crowd. I did not wish for the room to be crowded." He admitted, stopping by Jari. "I was...hoping to read up on..." He carefully chose his words, but there was nothing else that he could use to explain it. "...magical creations." He explained. "Creating living things with magic. Magical constructs. That sort of thing." He admitted, offering a smile. "But! I did not mean to interrupt! I can come back later if that is alright! I have been investigating some things with Vlad and figured I would come in on the break I do have." His voice was always a soft tone, even when he spoke normally. He was just a giant teddy bear what could you say.

- Pali Noirtier, Umbra Court, outside the town limits of Vicus Elbii -

(Before takeoff)

Pali's expression softened a little after Anya expressed things as she did, and he stole a glance at her as she turned around the bend to head inside the carriage.

So there was someone else who confronted a dullahan, and I thought I was the only person. Anya, you are a frightful one to battle monsters as well as befriend two. Maester Gerik is not what I would consider human, not anymore, and myself . . . well, the only thing still tethering me to humanity lies within Ignis Court. With my Wishful Thinking, a single powerful thought can turn me to something forever changed and immutable. Lev -- I wonder what you think of me right now, as a holdout against monstrosity or one who has succumbed to it already. If the latter, hold a moment longer. You will consider me different by the end of this journey.

(After takeoff)

By the long trip's end, Pali turned toward the group that started to leave the cabin of the carriage, hungrily at first with eyes that betrayed a little more than interest, but later a smoother expression. He dropped to his feet from the short and long step of the carriage cab and turned his back partially to the group.

"The trip was straining and the horses rowdy and borderline untamed, but nothing a little pick-me-up from me could not cure."

With a clap of his hand on the flank of the rightmost horse, he set the creature into an otherworldly whinny before diffusing the creature altogether back into refined magic. The swirling essence of the horse was soon followed by the other's, and both essences flowed into Pali's palm before he absorbed the remains. Pali felt a wave of rejuvenation pass over him, his eyelids flickering at first but later calm as if satisfied. He glanced back toward the others.

"Regarding Tekkanororia, I knew of where she lived before, far from Vicus Elbii, however I did know of how to navigate to this place. For now, we must ask around. Being an wizened old authoress of some renown, she must be known by at least some of the locals."

- Jari Coriander, Somnum Court, within the library in Sanctus Heights' Grand Cathedral -

Jari looked perplexed at first regarding Arun's mention of a personal matter, then feeling that he understood as time went on he smiled and replied, "Not at all! I can share this room among the three of us. If you are looking for magical constructs like homunculi and golemcrafting, I would think that they are around here somewhere, though I have yet to see them. I myself have never seen anything animated beyond a small machination or enchanted tapestries. If you would like and if Kolm here does not mind, perhaps I can help you look for them?"

Quinn
The disguised maid would gently pull out one the books, “Celebrating 1000 Years.” Inspecting it as if making sure it was in good condition. Flipping through the pages, she would examine its contents while still acting as if she were concerned for the Lack of care the book Had been put through. Unannounced to the other mages, Quinns weapons were still hidden within the stonework of the cathedral’s walls. A safety net for the vivifican mage lest things go awry. Her eyes were quick and calculating, catching what keywords she could. Lastly checking if it held a table of contents. As Arun entered and spoke up. She would take mental note of the books contents that she saw and move along with the cleaning duties. Doing her best to act like her job was to clean, rather than knowing how the library was organized.

Isabelle
The umbra mage would follow into the meeting out of curiosity, somewhat forgetting her comrads that brought her along were nearby. She seemed entranced by the appearance of the powerful mages she had only heard of, never having had a chance to meet them. Beyond that her actions were ridged and silent. She clearly felt like an intruder, and outsider.

Aquilla
The young magician would look at the book and then nervously mutter to Vlad as she watched Arun leave. “I-If you could give me some time to prepare to leave my room... I could help with that... I learned Latin in hopes that some of the outdated books had info to cure my condition. If such a skill would benefit the greater mages of the courts then Id be happy to put them to use.” She says as she shyed away from Vlad. Gathering a bit more distance.

No one seemed to pay Isabelle much attention as she followed the other mages in to the meeting hall, and thus Isabelle would have no trouble in finding herself a seat. Her main trouble, however, would likely be seeing her Maester face-to-face, especially after her exit from the capitol.

Mabel absentmindedly stroked at the fur "scarf" around her neck, her hand stilling at the mention of refreshments, hoping that Yael's ravenous stomach wouldn't win out his willpower. Thankfully it didn't, and the mage wasn't detected as she took a seat, as close to Jynn as possible. At the possibility of refreshments, however, Mabel did speak up. "I am rather peckish," she said shyly. "Perhaps something light while we converse?" As a servant nodded to retrieve a plate of meat, crackers, and cheese, Mabel whispered to Yael: "I'll save these for you so that you can have them later."

At Daruk's request the staff seemed incredibly flustered and confused, before one of the sentrys leaned over Daruk's shoulder and murmured, in almost a dreamy hum, "Ah, but we do not get deliveries out here of that magazine, I am afraid. If we had it, we would gladly provide it for you, Maester."

Aislinn sat with her elbows propped on the table, hands steepled, listening intently as the maesters and maestra vocalized their concerns. Her gaze shifted to the centerpiece on the table as they spoke, seeming as though she were lost in another world. Despite being reprimanded, Aislinn seemed truly laid back and casual, seeming delighted that she had her family around her and didn't seem to be stressed about the consequences. "I imagine that the council is livid. As they should be--I have broken several of their strictest rules, as well as ostracized my court from all of yours. I am not one for conforming to authority, much less corruptive power. Through my own obligations I have discovered things, and found hidden truths . . . . I have found my *own* hidden truth, something which I would like to share with you all. However, I am afraid that I can only show you rather than describe to you." She offered Gerik a gentle, tender smile, as though looking out toward a brother. "Would you care to go on a little field trip to the Spirit Realm?"

At the mention of this, Mabel would tense, and Yael would notice that the priestess' demeanor went from casual to incredibly stiff and uncomfortable.

"As for my harvesting of Itika"--her gaze shifted toward Nero--"I have my reasons, though one most notable is that I need it, desperately, to end a threat that is about to resurface into our world."

She glanced once, twice, at Richter for his approval, before spreading her arms wide and saying, "I know that what I ask requires a great leap of faith, but I do ask that you please trust me. All will be revealed. I just need the Priestess' blessing, and I can make all of these wrongs righted."

The elder was going to say something witty in response to Arkane's attitude, unappreciative of the youth these days having a lack or respect for their elders, but instead her gaze flickered toward the sky where Arkane had been pointing to. The ravens were dispersing now, barely wisps of black ink before it all faded entirely. She stared at the sky for some time, and seemed almost . . . troubled? Confused? Senile? It was hard to say which, but Mia quickly grasped Arkane's arm and said, "We need to search the premises. We are not alone. This was quite the level of enchantment for any mage to do." She started to move back toward the carriage, arm clasped behind her back. "There must've been some purpose. I do not believe it to be a mere fluke. Everyone!"

Thanks to Saff's talents of masking their presence with wind and using her Vivifcan mark, the bounty hunters were enveloped in the illusion, whisking out of the Vivifica Forest's vision, as did the Temple of Life where they now stood. In front of them were the old, worn stone archways that marked thousands of years of history. Vaike, who had been dragged in by Tibarn when noticing that he was falling too far behind, let out a wistful sigh, taking a step forward to fully absorb the sight before him.

"I will never get enough of this place," he murmured.

Tibarn merely folded his arms across his chest and scoffed. "Maybe I'm just not a tree hugger, but this place gives me the creeps. It's just crawling with magic." At this Tibarn shuddered, before glancing over toward Arno. "What now? I'm guessing we, ah, probably look like outsiders if we wander in like this?"

Vaike, meanwhile, turned and offered Saffron a smile, placing a hand on her shoulder. "Very good work," he informed her. "Your harnessing wind masterfully. We couldn't have gotten this far if it weren't for you, truly. Thank you, Saffron."

There was much that Tibarn had wanted to ask Saffron, but instead he merely looked at her. Did he ask her how it felt to be home? Did she want to punch a wall, or flee the moment she could? Was there anything special that she had wanted to show him while they were there, like her pet rabbit, magical bear named Otto, or maybe her living quarters, or her parents?

The nightlong journey was a weary one, and Shiroo experienced fitful sleep as the carriage rose, and fell through the night. A full moon shone through the window, occasionally bobbing and donning its brilliant light upon the occupants of the carriage. He felt cold, unable to keep warm regardless of what he did. Perhaps it was because he brought no blanket--he hadn't thought about that.

Upon their arrival Shiroo let out a very loud yawn, stretching for several moments before exiting the carriage behind the others. Luckily for him, he didn't notice Pali's gaze--or Pali at all, for that matter--as he stepped out into a relatively small village. He had been to Vicus Elbii before, it was true, but in comparison to the expansiveness of the capital, the confines of the city felt small.

There were no gates, no security to question or search them. There were just rolling meadows of green, scattered trees throughout. The occasional pasture with horses could be seen, a silo way out in the distance. The homes were modest yet sturdily built. While there was the large mansion here and there, the homes were predominately of a middle-class and well-kept. Everything seemed orderly and tidy, homes mostly scattered with plenty of land, as opposed to the close quarters of everything crammed together in Sanctus Heights.

"So," Shiroo started, placing a hand on Vincent's shoulder and pointing to the largest three-story building that he could see. "Think our mad scientist lives there?"

"A pleasure, Mister Coriander." Kolm gave Jari's hand one firm shake, before releasing it and listening to the young man as he spoke of his lineage and court. "My being a better fit in Somnum is what I am told, though I have yet to become very well acquainted with any of the Somnum mages." He hesitated, before proceeding. "In fact, I feared that the Somnum mages didn't particularly care for me. The Ignis mages by far have been the most kind, warm, and welcoming, especially this young woman named Aquilla--"

He found himself pause at her name, a frown knitting his brow as he struggled with that odd sensation within his chest again at the thought of her. He swallowed hard, as though hoping to rid himself of this unwanted feeling, before trying to focus on the rest of what Jari was saying. He still hadn't even glanced in Quinn's direction, the maid going otherwise unnoticed.

Kolm's thoughts, however, were quickly snatched from Aquilla as Jari made mention of displaying his talents for the Somnum mage. "Umm, so, like, my magic is unruly," he faltered. "And I mean, really, really faulty. I could accidentally kill you when trying to demonstrate. I freeze things, can absorb cold, transform water . . . I guess?" He hadn't really given his abilities much thought until now. Was there more that he could do with his magic? He hadn't tried, and could only think of the harm his magic had caused instead.

The contents of the book that Quinn skimmed were long, including a preface, introduction, a chapter on each and every one of the high priestesses, including one on the High Priestess Mabel herself. There was a chapter titled "Before the Four Courts" that was at the top of the listing. To better decipher its contents, she would likely have to spend more time with the book. From what she glimpsed, it seemed to be a history book, giving lengthy details into the history and culture of each of the four courts, the High Council, and the selection of the priestesses, with the addition of a section of life before the Four Courts' existence. Before Quinn would close the book, she would catch the phrase "Cold Massacre War," something that she had likely heard of before, and had something to do with the founding of the Four Courts.

With the arrival of Arun, Kolm simply nodded respectfully, his expression remaining largely neutral and disinterested until it was mentioned that Vlad was in Aquilla's room alone. His eyes narrowed. "Wait. What?" His cold gaze flickered over toward Arun. "And was she . . . ah, alright with him being there alone with her?" Perhaps he was just being protective, but he felt slightly uneasy. He'd seen Vlad in passing, and he seemed . . . what was the word . . . . Bold? Cocky? Assertive? He wasn't certain, and maybe it was just jealousy that overcame him at the thought of Vlad being in her room with her alone . . . . And Arun leaving, as if--

"If three is a crowd, perhaps I should leave you two to your studies," he said, rising from his seat. "I, well, remembered something that I needed to check on. If you'll excuse me."

Elia's shoulders slackened at Vala's touch, her expression shifting from fury to a modest frown at her father. At Vala's words in response to the automaton incident, the lieutenant folded his hands in his lap, expression queer.

"Or, an alternative possibility," he voiced, tone low, "is that the one possessing the automaton accomplished precisely what they set out to do, and that it it wasn't out of control at all. My theory is that, with all of the lives lost in the city that day, the streets were reeking with potential Itika. If someone--or something--knew how to extract that from the dead bodies, well, that would explain why our blue-haired friend is here and not in the Spirit Realm where he belongs."

At the mention of his daughters, Lieutenant Mastiff's gaze shifted over toward Diane. "Ah, yes, where is Ariana, currently? I hope that she has had a place to stay, since her apartment was, well, a crime scene?"

Many ideas were being flung around. Tenebris . . . . The researcher Tekkanororia. A sigh escaped the lieutenant as he leaned back on his pillows. He reached a hand and ran it through his blond locks. The incident looked as though it aged him by almost ten years, wrinkles being present on his face that otherwise weren't, along with the dark circles that had taken residence under his eyes. This ordeal was doubtlessly exhausting him, yet he was determined to muster his brainpower and stamina to aid in whatever way that he could.

"Even the greatest of myths are often concealing a grain of truth in their origin," he told Vala. "I cannot be certain, but from lost literature of the distant continent of Ad Astra, which had been at war with Regalia during the Cold Massacre War, I believe that some of it may be true. I have not bore witness to this literature myself, but I have been told that it exists from a friend whom I trust with my life.

"Further, we have no record of history before the first priestess, and not even proper ones of the war that we know made Regalia into what it is today. Who's to say that there really wasn't a corrupt First Court known as Tenebris, and that they aren't the wraiths that Tekkanororia witnessed that were sealed in the Spirit Realm and desire to return?"

He paused, as though allowing his words to sink in, before continuing, "Regardless, we have many missing pieces to the puzzle still. Such as, what is their current influence in the world, who are they, and what can they really do with Itika. I am also wondering why any record of them was reduced to myth and legend that has been scattered throughout the world, but I can't begin to truly understand. I am sorry that I cannot answer all of your questions, Diane, but I hope that this helps."

He rested with his eyes closed momentarily, hearing as Diane mentioned Tekkanororia herself. "Ah, very good. Yes, I believe she may hold more answers that you seek. Also, there is an elderly woman named Elena in this city. She is the one who first told me about Tenebris and knew of the literature from Ad Astra, so perhaps she knows even more that she'd be willing to share with you."
