Landyn grinned like he knew a secret no one else did. “You mean when I demanded your attention and would not take no for an answer? No, I don’t remember that at all.” He laughed and led Adrian through the halls. “Take a walk with me my love. I want to look at this beautiful world that we have and prepare for where I am going to force our new friends to go whenever they are both awake. They can’t tell me no. Someone has to teach them how to be Fireflies again and who better than someone who used to recruit people for fun?”​

Adrian saw that grin on his face and smiled as he heard that. "Yes. You found an innocent boy suffering after the loss of his parents and recruited him into your crazy group." He said with a laugh as he nodded, following Landyn through the halls. He rested his head on his partner's shoulder as he walked with him. "It really is a beautiful world we have isn't it?" He asked before he chuckled. "Yes. You are exactly who those two need to help them into being Fireflies once again. My stubborn recruiter." He added as they stepped outside. The housing for everyone was the old resort inns and the families got the larger houses along the hills over looking the beach.​

Landyn waved to a few more people as they passed. It was important for people to know that you know them. He believed in this cause from a very early age. “I have been getting people to join this crazy group of mine for far more years than people would imagine. I was this little pipsqueak of a kid running around convincing people that they had to rise up!” He pumped a fist in the air as he laughed at the memory. “And you were no exception. I never stopped even after the Fireflies were supposedly gone. Because this is a good thing. A great thing.” He narrowed his eyes just slightly as he thought about Gaige’s words. Hm. He looked out at the beautiful view that came from the housing. The water was the best color. He liked the weather here. It was so much better than Boston.​

Adrian chuckled as he nodded. "I remember it. I ignored you for a year until I finally decided to give in and join you." He said with a shake of his head and laughed softly as he saw him fist pump the air. "I know. Marlene left and you were still recruiting even after her death." Adrian said, smiling though he saw those narrowed eyes on his partner as he wondered what he was thinking about. "You know what this place has that makes it better than Boston?" Adrian asked with a smile. "No snow." He added, laughing as he headed towards the beach. He loved walking on the warm sand.​

Landyn’s arm slipped from Adrian’s as they reached the beach and he kicked off his shoes. It was so much safer here. He never had to worry about FEDRA or infected coming by to ruin everything. “No snow!” he yelled as he spun around, kicking up sand as he laughed. “Snow was only good for one thing and that was throwing it at you when you wouldn’t listen to me. I always wanted your attention, and how could you deny me if you were being pelted by snowballs?” He shook his head. “You couldn’t.” He always thought that it was because he was persistent and wanted everyone to join his rebellion. Turns out maybe it was because he really liked this guy. Eh, it didn’t matter now. He got what he wanted.​

Adrian felt Landyn's arm slip from his own and he didn't wait to slip his own shoes off and chuckled, following after him. The sand felt nice between his toes as he nodded. "Yeah, snow was great when you'd pelt me with them." He said with a chuckle as he ran towards Landyn. "And you're right, I couldn't deny you." Addy admitted as he tackled Landyn into the sand, pinning him down. He was wiry and lean, as he looked down at his partner. "You just didn't let up until I was yours. But that also means that you're mine." Adrian said as he grinned and leaned down, kissing him gently.​

It was true. Landyn never relented until he had exactly what he wanted, and that was Adrian in his arms. Now it might have been the other way around as he was tackled to the ground. What a beautiful life. What could be better than being right in the middle of the best cause in the world, watching it grow every day, and having the best partner in the world. “That is absolutely true. I am definitely yours. Though, newbie is pretty cute. You keep standing me up for all these supposed needy patients and I might see if this challenge ends up like the challenge with you.” He grinned at his teasing.​

Adrian looked down at Landyn and chuckled softly as he smiled. "Just remember my love, if you decide to do something like that, I'm not afraid of kicking you out of our room." He replied, winking at him. "And I don't mean to stand you up on purpose.." He said softly. "But we're running low on medics, many of the former Fireflies we find are soldiers." Adrian added as he watched Landyn.​

Landyn grinned, his lip between his teeth. “Don’t threaten me with a good time, pretty boy.” He laughed and sighed. He knew that Adrian was right. It was not his fault that he was doing the job of what should have been significantly more people. They did not have enough medics. The Fireflies were crawling with soldiers, so finding more of them was never the problem. Medics were rare, and Adrian was the best. Okay, he was probably biased, but who wouldn’t be? “I will forgive you only because you are correct.” He pushed his partner off of him and sprawled in the sand. “I’m gonna have grains in everything for months now.”​

Adrian chuckled as he heard Landyn and saw him take his lip between his teeth. “Oh I’ll threaten you with a good time. With me.” He laughed as he spoke, even if he spoke the truth. He sometimes wished he could spend more time with his partner instead of spending more time in the medical tent. He rolled when Landyn pushed him off and laid on his back as well, looking up at the sky. “I’ll clean you up later and get all that sand off. If you promise to do the same.” Adrian said, rolling his head to look at Landyn. “Also, sometimes I wish I wasn’t a medic. I could spend more time with you if I wasn’t.” He admitted as he looked at his partner.​

The sun was bright everywhere, but on this island, it was just right. Everything was just right. That was how it felt from the moment that they arrived. Everything was perfect. Maybe that was why Gaige was having such a hard time adjusting. He did not seem like the kind of guy who was used to having things so nice and perfect. He could still hear his words. It brought up and interesting question. He rolled his head to the side so that he could look at Adrian. His fingers laced through his partner’s. “What? But that’s what you do. It’s important, you know? If you weren’t, sure you could be with me more, but what else would you do?”​

Adrian looked at him as he felt his fingers laced through his own. “I know it’s what I do. But it’s always what I did. Ever since I joined the Fireflies and made it through the training. I just.. would like a little bit of time with you. I don’t want to stop being a medic completely, just maybe like a few days off or something.” Adrian replied, squeezing his hand gently. Adrian loved his life, and he loved his partner. This place was perfect and nice, but still, he spent so much time taking care of the soldiers injuries that sometimes he can’t spend all the time with Landyn like he wanted to. Sometimes he even worked all night and day on days with a lot of injuries.​

“That sounds like retiring, and we are far too young for that. We have so much we can give to the world still.” Landyn knew that Adrian wasn’t talking about quitting forever. Taking any days off seemed hard for him really. They were rolling around on a beach right now, and that was great, but they had so many things to do. Recruiting was not exactly the easiest thing now that they were on an island inhabited mostly by them. Landyn did whatever it was that was necessary. He was the Fireflies biggest supporter. The biggest hype man. He was willing to run any mission, and there were so many to do when they were trying to rebuild. 202 wasn’t so bad for people. He was one of the people who shipped themselves off to other usually oppressed encampments to see if they could get anyone else to rise against tyranny and join them. It worked a lot of the time. Not always.​

"I don't want to retire completely but maybe not working every day for hours on end would be nice." He admitted as he laid there, enjoying the sun as it shone down on them. The light breeze blew over and it was really nice but Adrian was a little tired. He wished they'd had more medics. Maybe if they had more medics then perhaps he wouldn't have to work so much. Maybe he could take a day off and spend time with his partner. "I should get back to the medical wing soon.." Adrian said, groaning softly as he closed his eyes and soaked up the sun. Another downside of working inside constantly. Very little exposure to the sun.​

Landyn got that. He didn’t like constantly working either, though his work didn’t always feel like work. Instead it felt like a mission. He got tired sometimes, and he liked when he could do things like lay on the sand with his best friend. He went on missions that lasted days and weeks. One was even close to a month. He never liked to be away from Adrian that long, but it was for the cause. He nestled his head on Adrian’s shoulder. “Oh, we were talking about sending a group inland and closer to Vegas to see if we can find a group of people out there. There were rumors that they might be Fireflies, and you know, if they aren’t, that can’t stop me.” He smiled at that. “It won’t be too long. We’re thinking no more than a couple weeks top. And while we’re out there, we were going to see how bad Vegas. That’s a whole lot of stuff that would be great.”​

Adrian hated when Landyn was gone on missions. The one that was close to a month had really given Adrian some anxiety. He was so nervous that his partner would never make it back. He hated him going away but knew that it was how they’d found some of the groups that made it here. It was for the cause and Adrian had remind himself of that. He felt the head rest on his shoulder and he couldn’t keep the soft groan from coming out. “You just got back two days ago and you’re already going away again? And to Vegas? We know rumors of how bad that place is.” Adrian said, not able to keep the worry out of his voice. “Maybe you should bring the newbie with you. You can use your Firefly recruitment techniques on him during the journey.”​

It was not ideal. He knew that. Landyn was very much aware of how much this was not the best arrangement for them. He didn’t like being apart any more than Adrian did. He had to do this though. Who else could go out there and do what he did? Plenty of people could travel. Plenty could fight. Plenty could talk. Not as many could do all of that. He had to do this. He had a crew that was good at this. They had been honing this craft for a while. He took Adrian’s hand and raised both above them. “Hey, you don’t have to worry, remember? This is me.” He opened his fingers wide, spreading Adrian’s fingers too. “And you. We are strong apart, because we know the other is strong and,” he laced his fingers through Adrian’s and let them fall, “we will always be together.” He squeezed the hands together as he kissed Adrian’s cheek. “But also, I don’t know. Maybe. Think newbie would want to be away from his buddy that long? Who do you think they are? If they were secret lovers, they don’t have to be secret anymore. They saw us. So no shame.”​

Adrian felt their hands raised above them and he looked at Landyn. “I know it’s you. I know the crew you have. And I know we’re just as strong apart because we strong and know we’ll be together. But Landyn, one of these days.. what if you don’t come back..” Adrian said as he felt the kiss to his cheek. He knew that his partner was good at what he did. But he still worried. Maybe it was just his nature but still. “I don’t know. Maybe they’re just close friends? Maybe being apart will bring them closer together?” Adrian suggested as he sighed softly. He wondered if that could be what they needed. He didn’t know though.​

Landyn brought their hands to his face and kissed the back of Adrian’s. “I will always come back. I’ve been doing this a long time. Nothing is going to happen to me. I promise. You know nothing is going to happen.” He truly believed that. He was younger and invincible. Nothing had ever been better than his life then. “Addy, are you projecting? We don’t even know these two. We don’t know anything about them. But I do know about you. You could come with me. We always need a medic. We could leave Carmen this time and take you. What do you think? It could be like a vacation!”​

Adrian sighed softly as he felt the kiss to the back of his hand. “You’re far too confident for your own good my love. One day you might not be so invincible.” He replied as he swallowed hard. He’d seen so much, heard the tales. He knew what could happen. Was he projecting? No. He was being the realist that he always was. He blinked, looking at Landyn. “Come with you?” He asked, confused. He’d never thought about going with them to the mainland. “I don’t know, they need me here.” Addy’s voice was quiet, like maybe he did want to go, remembering how their travels from Boston to here.​

Now that he suggested it, it was all Landyn wanted. “Imagine this, Addy. It’s me and you in a mission together. We take our new friends with us to show them the good that we are doing. They’re from Vegas. We could go look at their scary, infested homes.” That maybe was not so great. He would hate for that to be a problem. Maybe this wasn’t so good an idea. “Or maybe we don’t. It would be so fun to have you with us. I could show you places on the way there.” He sighed. It felt more like a dream than something that they could ever actually do. “I know you’re needed here. But the mission isn’t just here. It’s out there too. We can only do so much here. Nothing’s official yet. We still have to work it out. It may not be for a handful of days.” He rolled to the side several feet. “I don’t even know if we’ll actually go.”​

Adrian listened to his partner, and he could imagine it. Seeing the sights, enjoying time with him. Showing their new friends how they did good. “I don’t know Lan. It’s just.. we’re already spread thin when Carmen is here, and it’s worse when she’s gone.” He said softly, looking up at the sky. There was nothing more he wanted than to be with Landyn. “Well. If you do actually go, I might be able to persuade them to spare me.” Adrian said as he pushed himself into a sitting position. “We need to get back in there though. I bet his friend will be waking soon.” He said as he got to his feet and held out a hand for Landyn.​

Landyn wanted to go. He always wanted to go. There were consequences to every action like not getting to be with Adrian. He did not get to really hang out with anyone ever. There were times when he got back and immediately turned around to leave again before the day was done. That happened a lot less, but really, he was rarely on the island for more than a couple of weeks at a time. There were things to do. When he took Adrian’s hand and stood, he pulled his love into his arms for a hug. “I wish we could always be together. No matter what.” Then he pulled away, taking one of his hands, and made his way over to their shoes so that they could go check on the mostly dead guy.​

Adrian didn’t want Landyn to go, he never did. And when his love was on the island, even for a few hours, he tried to get to him. To spend even a few moments before he was gone again. He never told Landyn about some of the things he’s thought of or things that woke him up in the dead of night. No one knew. He was good at hiding things if he had to, it was a tactic he’d gotten when he was young. Hiding emotions, feelings, items, himself. He often hid from FEDRA before he joined the Fireflies. Though he tried hard to not hide anything from Landyn. He smiled at him as he was pulled into a hug. “That’s all I’ve ever wanted.” He said softly as he kissed him quickly before he followed him over to their shoes. Adrian cleaned himself off as best he could, slipped his shoes on and held his hand out for his partner so they could walk together.​

Landyn bent down and pulled up his shoes. Since he had not simply taken them off like a normal person, they were covered in sand. He beat them on the side of his leg and then pulled them on. He stood up after and shook his himself out. He gave up and looked over at Adrian. “You missed a spot.” He took Adrian’s hand and with his other, he wiped down part of him. It was a bit of a losing battle while they were still out there. They could work on that later. “Good enough for now.” He turned and pulled at his partner so that they could go back inside now. He was curious if that new guy was up yet. He had so many questions. ​
