Gaige wasn't expecting what he saw, his lip went between his teeth, a nervous habit from when he was a kid. His eyes widened as he took it all in. It was crazy. So many people. "Two hundred and counting. We have some more coming from Santa Barbara and San Francisco." Oliver said as he looked over at Seth. "Is he okay?" He asked about the time that Levi collapsed in his arms and he caught him. "He'll be fine." He said as he scooped Levi into his arms, he didn't hesitate nor did he ask. Levi needed to get some kind of medic attention, and more rest, or so he thought.. "But he's been through a lot. And a nice meal, water and bed would do wonders." Gaige said as Oliver nodded. "We have a couple open rooms, two to a person. We'll put you two in one." He said as he started to lead the way down the short hill towards the big building. "In here we have the medical wing that can look at your friend."​

Is he okay? Sure. He’s fine. He was strung up on a pillar and abandoned there to die for something like 36 hours give or take a million. He’d had two bottles of water and some little snack. Yeah, he was fine. He didn’t even protest when Gaige picked him up. “You gonna take care of me, Firefly?” Which seemed like a silly thing to ask now that they were with several other Fireflies in a giant encampment. He was exhausted, he hurt, and he was pretty sure that at any moment he might pass out again after all the walking and the mental exertion of the moment. Medical wing meant just that. Not a tent with a couple of guys and whatever gear they could get rid of. This was an actual building with real rooms set up for this. If Levi weren’t so ready to be dead to the world, he might have even shown some excitement. He was not in the medical field, but it was nice to know someone could keep him together. Inside were a handful of people. A few people were talking to others. They did not have the battle wounded like on other places. They did have some sick though. “Hey!” Said a guy sitting on one of the exam tables. “I don’t know them! Did we get the people from Santa Barbara finally?”​

Gaige heard Levi's question and smiled softly as he walked with him in his arms. "I'll always take care of my light." He replied as he followed them to the big domed building. Oliver led them inside and he looked over at the guy on the exam table as they entered the medical wing. "No. These are different people. The people from Santa Barbara who talked to Keagan was a woman." He replied as he motioned for Gaige to set Seth down on the table. Gaige did so, laying him gently down on his back and moved so the medic could start looking over him. He started with an IV drip of saline to help give him fluids while he examined him.​

About the time that Gaige put Levi down, he was out again. He couldn’t stay awake with how much stress his body was under. That at least meant that he was easier to examine. The man from the other exam table slid sighed. “It’s been months. I told Sarah that they weren’t going to make it, but she said we should wait it out.” He shrugged and looked over at the others anyway. “Alright, newbies. You’re not from Santa Barbara. So, where are you from? We have a handful from Boston. I’m from Atlanta. That was a travel to get here, believe me.” ​

As the medic examined Levi and set to work on fixing him, Gaige looked over at the man. “Well, I was given my pendant in San Francisco but my parents and I are from Las Vegas. He’s from Las Vegas as well.” Gaige said as he sat down near the table that Levi was on. “Boston? I knew some people from Boston once. Three of them. I don’t know where they are now.” Gaige said as he shifted in place. He went quiet and sighed softly. “I doubt they’d make it from Santa Barbara. That place is swarming with an unpleasant group of people.” Gaige said, as he looked down. Yeah. Unpleasant. He knew that, he was part of it for a while.​

“Oh wow! Vegas? That place is crazy too. I went there once. It was a terrible idea. I do not recommend that for anyone.” The man swung his legs as he sat there. “I actually have never been to Santa Barbara, so I wouldn’t know about that. But what I do know about is Boston. You knew three of us? Wow. Who? I wonder if I knew them.” He drummed his fingers on the side of his table like he was waiting for something. He looked around the room and then turned his attention back to Gaige. ​

Gaige rubbed his arm as he looked away and then looked back at him, hearing him drumming his fingers on the side of the table. "Well, I don't remember Vegas much other than we weren't doing well against the infected and FEDRA. As for the people I knew? I knew Benjamin Dixon, Maximillian Parina and Nathaniel Matthews." Gaige replied as he looked over at him. "I didn't know them for long though." He admitted as he looked down at his lap, fingers fiddling with one another.​

The man, who was not much older than Gaige, swayed as he swung his legs like he was dancing to music only there wasn’t any playing. “Ah, you knew Lynn’s boys. Yeah, they were a riot. Always together. They were fun though. And massively good at what they did. I think it was because Lynn was something else.” He looked around again and sighed. “Alright, I give up. He said he was going to be here a good half hour ago. I think I got stood up.” He shrugged and walked over to Gaige. He looked at the table, observing. “Your friend looks like he’s been through some things.” He grinned wide. “Good thing you got him here. These people are great. Way better than the rags and alcohol I could find on my way here.”​

Gaige looked over at him, seeing him sway and swing his legs like there was music he didn’t know about. “I didn’t know her name before. I only met their mama twice.” He said as he looked at him. “Stood up?” Gaige asked curiously before he turned to look at Levi. “He went through some pretty rough things. I didn’t know if I was going to get him out.” Gaige admitted, not revealing that it was him who’d hung him on pillars and forced him to work all day in the heat. “This was his idea, coming here. He told me about the island after we got through the group I mentioned in Santa Barbara.”​

The man washed his gaze over the unconscious Levi as the medic worked through him. They were learning that he was exhausted, dehydrated, malnourished, and battered in a whole lot of places. “Wow, these guys really did a number on him.” The man suddenly looked up, shaking his head and laughing. It was one of those bigger laughs that filled the room. “Sorry, what were you saying? Oh right. Yeah, Lynn and her boys. You probably didn’t know her name because all three of them only ever called her ‘mama.’ Kinda cool how she adopted all of them. I’m not gonna lie. A bunch of us were jealous. They got to go everywhere with her. Then, when she died, they were gone. I haven’t seen them since… well, it’s been a good bit.” He finally waved a hand and sighed. “Eh, he does that sometimes. Seems to think that other patients are more important than me.” He shook his head. “Say, we didn’t ever introduce ourselves did we? The name’s Landyn. Looks to me like your friends gonna be out a while. Are you just gonna sit here and wait for him?”​

Gaige looked over at Levi again and hummed softly. "Yeah. They were pretty bad." He replied, looking away. He avoided the part that knew it was his partly his own fault. He didn't want to talk about that. He looked back at the man and smiled a little bit. "They were certainly a group." He agreed. "Ben wanted to go fight the mini-horde that was attacking San Francisco when I first met him." Gaige laughed softly as he remembered that. "And I was going to go with him." He shook his head. "It's nice to meet you Landyn." He replied. A moment later another medic swept over, his blonde hair stuck up just slightly as his green eyes sparkled seeing Landyn. "I'm so sorry my love, it's been one patient after another. I hope I didn't keep you waiting too long." Adrian slid into the conversation like water and turned to look at him. "Oh! Hello! You must be the new people they just brought in. Nice to meet you!" He had a very bubbly personality about him as he sat down on the table beside Landyn.​

Landyn could envision what this other man was saying. He knew those three relatively well. They weren’t best friends or anything. No one could get through the impenetrable trio. Everyone was a friend but no one was best friends like them. He was going to say something about this mini-horde thing when finally someone showed up like he was supposed to. “Sure, sure. One patient after another. Right, like they really need you. That’s the oldest trick in the book.” He shook his head. “They’re all playing the ‘I’ve got a horrible fever’ card or the ‘I was horribly attacked when I was off island getting us better equipment for our beautiful growing world’ card.” He looked over at Gaige like they were somehow now confidants. “Would you believe he falls for that every time? Hey, meet my new friend here. He was just talking about knowing Lynn’s boys from Boston. Isn’t that crazy? Oh! Hey, we’ve been looking at your mostly dead friend. We should probably check out you too, huh? Beautiful if not gullible medic, would you do the honors?”​

Adrian laughed as he looked at his partner and shrugged. "And many of these patients have real problems." He replied with a grin on his face. "He's just upset because I give them attention before I give him attention." Adrian said as he kissed his cheek smirking before he looked over at Gaige. "Certainly!" Adrian said as he walked over to him, before he looked back at Landyn. "Oh really? I remember them. Nate, Ben and Max. What a trio." He said as he started looking over Gaige. On his shoulder was a tattoo that Josiah forced him to get of the Rattler symbol. "How did you get off so much better than your friend?" Adrian hummed, looking at Gaige who blushed and looked away. "I.. didn't meet him until Santa Barbara. When he was half-dead from the group there." Gaige said, hoping to play off that he was a guard there and helped Levi escape.​

Landyn shook his head as he listened to them. “Don’t listen to him. Just because he’s a medic doesn’t mean he knows anything. He’s lucky he’s cute otherwise I’d find myself someone who wasn’t such a big hero all the time.” He walked around the table while Adrian was looking at Gaige. “Weird tattoo. Is it the same as his?” Without permission, which was hard to get since Levi was out again, Landyn pushed his sleeve and looked at it. “So not the same. But still matching shoulders. That’s cute.” He whirled around to look at Adrian. “Why didn’t we ever get matching tattoos?” He shook his head. “Anyway, hey doc, what if we give our new friend the grand tour while his buddy is sleeping when you’re done? You’re going to be amazed. Really, it is more than I could have ever imagined.”​

Adrian rolled his eyes as he checked over Gaige and chuckled. "Yeah. Being a medic means I know nothing else." He muttered, shaking his head as he did. Gaige looked over at Landyn as he revealed the tattoo on Levi's shoulder. He looked down as Adrian stepped back, shrugging. "Because I don't like them." He replied as he crossed his arms over his chest. "Will you stop that. I'm not a doctor." Addy said as he shook his head. "Though I agree, lets give him the grand tour." He added, as Gaige stood up and looked between them. "Really?" He asked as he moved to follow them. "Landyn, did they give these two a room yet?" Adrian asked as he turned to walk out the medical wing door.​

“Uh huh, whatever you say, doc.” Landyn grinned and moved away from the table with the unconscious man. “Uh? I’m not sure. Let me slip out and see. You two get comfy and don’t do anything fun while I’m gone.” He practically ran through the wing and out into the hall. From afar, they could hear, “DO THE NEWBIES GET ROOMS? THEY CAN’T ROOM WITH ME.” After a few minutes, he came running back in. “Yes. You know the empty rooms? They’re bunking in one of those. I hope you like your friend. These rooms aren’t the biggest. They certainly are cozy though.” He grinned wide with raised brows as he nudged Adrian. “So, that was the medical ward. Where to next…”​

"Landyn, I swear. You keep calling me doctor, you're sleeping with the dogs." He said with a teasing smirk on his face as he looked at him. He shook his head as he watched his partner run off. "Is he always like this?" Gaige asked as Addy nodded. "Yeah, he is." He replied as Landyn came running back in. He looked at him, listening as Adrian grinned and nodded. "Of course. Our neighbor moved out to the family housing further up so maybe they've got that room." Adrian said as Gaige rolled his eyes, hearing him. Adrian felt the nudge and smirked, shaking his head. "Why don't we show him their room so he can put their packs there and not carry it all over the place."​

Landyn was going to keep calling him doc purely for teasing reasons. He always had and always would. He. Looked at Gaige with all his bags and shook his head. “No one has commitment anymore. Oh, did you want help with that? We do have working arms that could be used to assist you with this.” He led them passed people who he waved to and greeted until they skipped over everything else in between and made it to the housing. “Wanna be neighbors? Then we can ask each other for sugar.” He laughed to himself, his hands on his hips. “Wow, that sounds so weird out loud. People really did that, you know? People from before were weird. People from now are weird. Like that guy?” He pointed to a man who they were passing. “Hey Greg.” Greg looked up from a clipboard and nodded. “Hey Landyn.” “Greg is working on picking up where they left off on a potential cure. Weird.”​

Adrian knew he'd never stop Landyn from calling him doc, it was just his partner. He looked at Gaige and shook his head. "Yeah, that's it. Lack of commitment." Addy agreed as Gaige shook his head. "I can handle them." He said, following him passed people. There were so many, it was weird. He hadn't been around this amount of Fireflies since San Francisco. Once they made it to housing, Gaige looked at him with a curious head tilt. "Really?" He asked. There was so little he knew about the old world and how people used to be. His face paled as he heard that Greg was picking up on where they left off with a cure. "But without the immune person or Dr. Anderson, how are they going to make a cure?" Gaige asked as Adrian opened the door to the room he and Levi would be in. Gaige stepped in and set the bags down in the small two bed room. "Cozy." He said softly, looking at them.​

“You know,” Landyn began as he also entered the room and stepping to the side. It was small and cozy. They were all a bit small, though there were bigger areas in other buildings. “I asked him that too. Don’t you need the immune part to do something. He said, ‘There’s got to be another way.’” He shrugged. “I don’t know what that other way is, but he is determined. There’s a whole team of them working on it. I think Kendra was saying that she has a theory, but unless that theory is specifically infecting people to see if someone turns out immune, I don’t know what she could possibly be thinking.” This was not his expertise though. He nodded and stepped out of the room to wait for whenever Gaige was ready. “If you need a moment or whatever, that’s cool. I took a good four hours of gawking before I could human again after we got here.”​

Gaige still didn't trust it or like it either. His parents were killed in that hospital in Utah when they brought that immune girl in. "Another way. They spend so much time finding it that they don't really care who it affects I think." Gaige said softly, moving to look at Landyn. Adrian tilted his head, confused as he heard that. "What do you mean?" He asked, standing beside Gaige. "Nothing. I'm just tired. It's been a long day. I think I'm going to take a nap and uh, let me know when he wakes up please?" Gaige asked, there was a weight in his heart as he looked down at his lap.​

This was not necessarily an unexpected turn of events but a bit of a disappointment. He was liking having a new guy around. “Hm, that’s an interesting thought. When you’re less tired, I plan on asking you probably highly inappropriate and invasive questions both about that and yourself.” Landyn smiled as he put out his hand for Adrian to join him. “Maybe we should leave this patient to rest, Addy?” That was an interesting statement, and he was not sure he understood it completely. He never thought about it that way.​

Gaige was still skeptical about the Fireflies, and sometimes he remembered why he'd left in the first place. It was a combination of events that had him leaving with Cameron and Emmett, but he went one way while they went another. "When I wake up, I might be in the mood to answer those questions." He replied as he laid down on the bed and sighed softly. Addy looked at Landyn and nodded. "Yes, let's let him rest." Adrian agreed and turned to head out the door with his partner. Once they stepped outside and shut the door, Adrian sighed softly. "He seems like there's some.. issues there. But overall, I like him. What about you love? What do you think of them?"​

Landyn waved though he was not sure that Gaige noticed. That was okay. He stepped a few feet away from the door, hooking his arm through Adrian’s, and really thought about that. “He seems a bit… lost. I didn’t get to see the other one. I haven’t figured out who they are, and you know I love a good challenge. I think those two are a challenge for sure.” The comment about the Fireflies still rolled around his head. That was going to stay there for a while. He was going to ponder it until he felt that he truly understood it. Until then, it would haunt him.​

Adrian felt Landyn hook his arm with his and smiled as he nodded, hearing that. "Oh I know you love a good challenge, and he certainly seems like one." He replied as he thought about when he first met Landyn. "Remember when we first met? I didn't want to even acknowledge you." He said with a smirk on his face as they moved. "Did you want to go our room or take a walk outside? We should still have time before Levi wakes up."​
