The Fall of Wonderland [Inactive]

The Hatter's grip tightened on Adelina's shoulders when the girl told her about her house. Her eyes glazed over as she imagined her house being destroyed by the card soldiers and her territory being taken over. The more she thought about it, the tighter her grip became on the poor girl's shoulders. "...Yes, yes. I suppose you couldn't do much considering you are just a Dormouse. But..." She finally came back to reality and released her grip from the Dormouse's shoulders. "It gives me yet another reason to bash Alice's head in and dance around in her blood." The Mad Hatter's crooked smile reappeared at the thought of killing Alice and putting an end to her reign for good.

Her happiness didn't last long, however. A loud, piecing screech echoed throughout the forest. In an instant, Adelina was right behind her, cowering in fear. Katerina thought she could feel Adelina's heart about to burst through her ribcage. The Hatter automatically grabbed the girl's hand, maybe to reassure the girl that they were going to get out of this situation in one piece, or to keep herself from losing her nerve. Even she wasn't quite sure.

The Hatter's eyes widened in fear when the Dormouse said the Hellions were coming.. "...I don't know about the rest of you all, but I'm not about to stick around and be victim to some of Alice's stupid creatures." She quickened her pace so that she was caught up with William. "At least you have the common sense not to try to fight those blasted creatures. Then again, if you did go after them, it would be your funeral and my perfect distraction to get away. So technically it is win-win either way."

He wasn't planning on staying, and if the rest of the group didn't want to join him it was fine. It would be easier if he could do it on his own, less people to betray him or try to backstab him, it was a reason why he liked it alone. The cat had seem to grown fond of him though, and a few allies who knew their way around wouldn't hurt him, plus. It seemed as the cat didn't think much of the Queen either, the one who had brought them here to play along in her "game" and these "Hellions" were probably a part of her game as well.

"At least you have the common sense not to try to fight those blasted creatures. Then again, if you did go after them, it would be your funeral and my perfect distraction to get away. So technically it is win-win either way." Katrina told him as he let out a small chuckle and thought about a funeral being held for him, it would be more like a party if anyone who knew him got words of his death.

"I'm not a fan of funerals, they're too sad and too long. Better to celebrate and think of how you're alive because they're dead," William answered as he kept on walking into the forest, in a slight quick pace to hopefully shake off the Hellions who were headed in his direction.

The Hellions were quick to find the group, though one of them had begun to leave, the others were still generally chatting amongst themselves. They follow in a swarm through the undergrowth before darting up through the branches, almost invisible in the foliage, where they began to work their trickery.

"Then again, I wouldn't mind sitting through your funeral, you crazy old fool." One mimicked in William's voice, talking towards Katrina.

Another skirted away, settling on a branch nearby to the Mad Hatter, just out of sight, taking in a breath before copying the Dormouse's voice.
"You know, I helped the Card Soldiers find your hideout. I wanted them to burn it down, after all the abuse you gave me, you got what you deserved!".

That last of the pack jumped from one of the high branches into a bush with expertise, sneaking just enough of itself to copy the Cheshire Cats voice. "You know, Adelina, you certainly are so useless. I mean, turning into a mouse? How pathetic, you coulden't even save the Hatter's house, anybody else could have, but not you, because you're too weak."

The Hellion's voices were generally spot on, and they worked in such a way to make the words sound so insulting and offensive, though perhaps too much so, the aggression was blindingly obvious, and perhaps over the top, but it would still work on the gullible.

Cheshire chuckled at William's answer, his grin growing wilder which was a feat of its own. Still on his shoulder Cheshire could hear the Hellions grow closer, and closer. Cheshire had faith that William wouldn't be susceptible to the Hellions tricks and ploys after all he managed to get through my riddles and questions, I bet he'll fare well against those nuisances.

Cheshire wasn't worried about how he himself would bare against them, he found them a bother, but nothing more and nothing less as no matter how well something mimics something, it could never be an impeccable act. They were like pests Cheshire could just swat away with his tail. Even if what they said were true Cheshire paid it no head for he wasn’t very opinionated.

Laughing again at William's reply to the Hatter Cheshire let his ears flood with the Hellions chatter. Hearing them mimic his own voice brought a certain amount of amusement to Cheshire.

"Why I don't sound that snobbish do I?" Cheshire cackled to William before turning to Adelina. "Don't worry my dear Adelina you certainly aren't useless, for the ability to not be able to is an ability all in itself, and without that ability we wouldn't have strong points now would we?"

Satisfied with his reasoning Cheshire flicked his tail around lazily, wondering how the Mad Hatter would take this. He wasn’t going to put words in Adelina’s mouth to reassure the dear Hatter and take it into his own paws to sort this out, though he figured he give everyone a bit of a motivational line or too.

“By the way this may be a doozy for some of you, so do what I do, grin and bear it!”Cheshire advised, letting a course snicker sneak passed his grin.

Chloe cleared her throat. She had never seen Hellions up close before. She had never seen Surface Dwellers either. The Surface Dwellers sounded so.. Interesting. Now would be a perfect chance to see them both! But then again, she didn't want to leave Alice. Alice was her everything, and the thought of leaving her even for just a little peek at the Surface Dwellers filled her with anxiety. There was also the fact that all of her old friends would be there, and that definently made her feel uneasy. Taking a while to think about it, she concluded that she would go spy on the Surface Dwellers for no more than a day. Well that was if she got permission. Half of her wanted Alice's blessing, but the other half wanted Alice to deny her and put a stop to this foolish curiosity. "Master Alice could I ask you something?" She managed to squeak out.

William let out a small chuckle at the Hellion mimicking his own voice, as it would never be a sentence he would have said. The words "Crazy old fool" and "sitting through a funeral" didn't fit his voice at all, but the Hellion did a good job mimicking his voice. He heard the mimic of Adelina's voice and the words fitted worse, so shy she had been and gullible, the last the girl would do was to help these "card soldiers" to burn down a house.

"I would never sit through an entire funeral, not even my own, and Katerina does not seem as a crazy old fool. I usually only insults people who I borrow things from," William answered to the Hellions as they had seemingly found them, but if the only thing they could was to mimic voices, then they were useless as an aggressive part, the only thing he needed to do was to not believe their lies.

William let out a small chuckle as Chesire reacted on the words that had been put into his mouth, and turned towards where the cat was flickering his tail around William's face, he liked to have the cat on his shoulder. It gave him good advice, to bear through it and ignore their stupid lies.

"You know, I helped the Card Soldiers find your hideout. I wanted them to burn it down, after all the abuse you gave me, you got what you deserved!".

"You know, Adelina, you certainly are so useless. I mean, turning into a mouse? How pathetic, you coulden't even save the Hatter's house, anybody else could have, but not you, because you're too weak."

The Hellions chatter rang in her ears like a constant siren, making her let out a small squeak as she placed her hands over her rounded ears. Crouching low to the ground, the Dormouse squeezed her ears tightly against her head to block out the mimicked voices.

"The voices are fake, Adelina. There not real." The mouse whispered quietly under her breath, tears brimming in the corners of her eyes. Before the droplets had a chance to fall, the girl shifted into a mouse in a matter of seconds. She shrunk down, fur covering her skin in a coat of brown, along with clear white whiskers that stuck out the side of her snout. Leaping up, the small dormouse dug her tiny nails into William's pant leg, and began climbing up his clothes. Reaching her destination, she slipped into a pocket on his shirt, and popped her head out above the fabric.

"Could I... Perhaps stay in your pocket for awhile?" The mouse asked in an adorable tiny voice. She blinked her big eyes up at William innocently, the tip of her pink nose twitching.

Adelina knew those were the Hellions speaking in their voices, don't get her wrong. But the thought of having to run from those beasts, she was afraid she might not be able to keep up with the others. She was, after all, just a dormouse.

William looked around as Adelina had disappeared into a small mouse, as he felt something on his leg. Before he knew it a small mouse, talking in Adelina's voice, but in a higher tone, had placed herself in his pocket. William smiled down to Adelina, as he quickly understood it was her, it wasn't the first time she had been a mouse in front of him after all. She was small and fragile, both her mind and her body. It didn't surprise him that she would get scared over the Hellions.

"Of course you can. Anything to help. Shut out their voices and focus on your own, that way it doesn't seem so scary. You can always trust your own voice in your own head after all," William comforted her with looking down at her, so she could see his mouth moving. To confirm it was him talking and not the Hellions. She was clearly scared of the Hellion's words, but he didn't know whether she was scared of the other's voices, or his own.

Adelina looked up at him as he spoke, the tips of her ears flicking continuously. Relief flooded over her when William allowed her to stay in his (did I mention extremely comfortable?) pocket. The Dormouse herself found a tiny smile dance on her pink lips at his reply. Who knew a mouse could smile?

"T-thank you, William. You are a kind person." Little Adelina murmured before sinking down into his shirt pocket, and curling into a fuzzy ball.

"Wake me if anything goes wrong..." Adelina murmured, her voice fading into a whisper. The Dormouse let out a yawn and nuzzled her head in her paws. Soon enough, her brown beady eyes closed, and she fell into a deep sleep.

The Dormouse breathed softly as the group dealt with the Hellions. But that didn't mean she wouldn't be awake later.

The Hatter whipped her head around to William's taught, or what sounded like him anyways. "Are you trying to dig yourself an early grave, boy? When I'm done with you, you'll regret-" She stopped mid-sentence when she saw William laugh at those words and claim that they weren't his own. So if he didn't say it, then that means... "...They're already here, aren't then? Great, that's just my luck. I knew I should have left when I had the chance," she grumbled, rolling her eyes. "I hope you're enjoying this Alice!! I know you're watching us, wherever you're hiding. You'd be the last person to miss something as delicious as this," Katerina laughed dryly to herself, but then she was cut short when she heard another voice beside her that mimicked Adelina's. She flinched at the venom in the words. That's not true. It can't be true. She wouldn't say that...would she?.

The Mad Hatter clasped her hands against her ears and screamed at the top of her lungs. "Ahhh!! Shut up! Shut up! Shut up! Shut up!!! I'll spill your guts all over the forest floor, you disgusting vermin!!! Dammit, where did that stick go?!!" she shouted, looking left and right. All she could think about was destroying those nasty creatures.

Alice was engrossed, staring intently at the book that showed what the Hellions were seeing, though she looked a little disappointed. "Ugh..." She grunts suddenly, seemingly out of disgust, before turning to Chloe, tapping the book angrily. "See, when you've got these confident ones backing up the weaker ones, the little rascals hardly even work. At least the Hatter got a little annoyed... Anyway, what were you going to ask?"

The Hellions weren't about to give up though, they double back before shooting through the grass, the three of them getting into a new position to avoid being directly located, before speaking up again. They didn't copy anyones voice, this time, but they spoke in a voice so sinister it could send chills down anyone's spine. "Do you really think you're safe in there, hiding away from the worlds problems? William could crush you in an instant, and there would be nothing you could do about it. And why wouldn't he? He is a surface-worlder, he can't be trusted." One says in whispers, directed at Adelina who had hidden herself in William's pocket. One of them was even brazen enough to stick its rotting snout out of a nearby bush to speak to the Hatter. "You can't fight us, Katerina. Two will replace the one who falls, and your suffering will be eternal, for our Queens enjoyment, of course. So just give up, there is no point in resisting...". The Hellions aimed their guile at the more affected, though it was rather obvious they were getting desperate for results.

Chloe pulled the collar of her dress, clearing her throat yet again. Seeing Alice annoyed like this always put Chloe on edge, and Chloe was starting to feel extremely guilty for wanting to leave her. After a couple more seconds of the 'Should I or should I not' game, Chloe finally gathered the courage to ask for permission to leave. Only a day. "Master Alice, I was wondering if perhaps I could go take a peek at the surface dwellers.. Up close." She bit her lip and quickly added, "It'll only take a day.. And if you wanted I could hurt them while I-I was there or something or I-" She stopped herself there, remembering Alice's dislike of her stutter filled rambling.

When the Hellions arrived, Dee's hands flew over his twins ears and he began to steer her forwards, following the retreating backs of the group. He worried for Adelina and Katrina. It seemed like they were more on edge than anyone else in the group. Of course, he couldn't possibly expect Cheshire to be affected by any of this, most certainly not. That shady cat was hardly fazed by anything and he didn't like that at all. Especially not since Dum thought that her and Cheshire were best friends and constantly insisted upon seeing the furball. Speaking of Dum.... She had not resisted her brother's protection of her ears instead she turned it into a game. She walked at a shambling pace, arms outstretched and groaning like a zombie. When Dee tried to force her to move at a faster pace she dug her heels into the ground and moved even slower. It was so like her to be completely unaware the situation at hand.

"Trains!" She growled as she shambled. Dee was sorely tempted to slap her upside the head for such an idiotic mix-up. He watched the surrounding area warily as well as the backs of those in front of him. While he was not paying attention, Dum had come to a standstill and pulled away from her brother. "I want to ride on your shoulders!" She smiled eagerly knowing that he could not turn her down. Sighing he bent down and she climbed up. She kicked her feet into his stomach chanting 'faster horsey until he broke into a run and caught up with the others.
