((Andddd now to start xDD))

The sun had just risen high in the sky, giving the tie was most likely somewhere between 7am-8am. The weather was a warm 75 degrees, but it of course was going to rise, as the time of year was summer in the city of New Haven. The sky above was a beautiful light shade of blue with bright white clouds hanging over, giving no signs of ill weather to come. Sam was sitting atop a two story building, her feet hanging over the side as she had her head looking up to the sun, her eyes closed. She looked rather relaxed, but really she was quite tense and trying her best to at least try and relax. She knew she was safe fro zombies at least for now, since she was on a roof, but that didn't mean she was safe fro people...which was an issue she'd deal with momentarily. Sam had reached this roof from a window in a child's room which is where she had slept the night before, or tried to sleep, but she had only gotten maybe 2 hours or less.

Jessica gazes down at her younger sister, her oceanic blue eyes which match those of her elder sister were covered currently by her tired lids. The older girl was sure to make no loud noises as she goes about this abandoned house, trying to find something in way of supplies, despite the fact Elyssa is deaf. Force of habit, really, since the unfortunate young girl hadn't been born as such. The brunette woman scavenges through the cupboards, searching for something, anything... Sure they had food and water, but exactly how long would a few fruit bars and some near-molding fruit last them? Especially the growing prepubescent girl she travels along with...

She takes in a deep breath before letting it out, despising the idea of having to once more change locations, trek through unknown lands, and risk her sister getting any sort of wound... It's become fairly common knowledge that only people with AB- blood was immune to the virus which turned people into the walking dead. And while Jessica was lucky enough to be blessed with her mother's blood type, her sister, whom was fathered by another man, was not. Thus far the over-protectiveness of her sister has allowed her to remain unaffected by the hell-like string, but with being unable to hear any sort of approaching danger... It was much more tedious a task than either wish to admit to.

An almost pained moan rings through Jessica's head, making her gaze snap to Elyssa who still laid across the couch, sprawled in what appeared to be a distressed position. Each sound out the younger's mouth sounded a bit muted, as though her vocal cords were turning numb along with the fact her ears no longer properly worked. Immediately she rushes over, knowing this upset reaction from her flesh and blood. She was having a nightmare, and the older sister knew exactly what of. And that's why she kneels down and pulls the girl into her arms, stroking her redish-brown hair in a comforting manner, along with rocking her gently from side to side. Without waking up, the previously frightened girl manages to calm her heart rate, and soon slumps against her sister's frame unknowingly. Jessica smiles faintly, once more laying her against the plush furniture before standing again and walking to the kitchen to resume her search.

Sam sighs deeply and looks down, opening her eyes as they were no longer faced at the sun. It was impossible to relax anymore and she knew that, yet she tried anyways. She pulled her feet up from the side of the roof and walked along the roof until she came to the small circular window in which she somehow fit though earlier, though she had to leave her bag behind. As Sam crawls back though the window, she'd land on the bed she slept on before, it squeaking ever so slightly, but not enough for it to be loud. With another sigh, she would roll off the bed and grab her bag, it was time to move on and leave this house, never to return. As Sam gets off the bed and walks along the wooden floor of what was possibly an attic full of children's things, the floor with creak under her weight. The floor were pretty weak up here, and she knew this, still though, it was high up and the only way to get to the attic of the sorts was by a string the pulled the stairs down which could be easily over looked if one wasn't looking hard enough, she only found it by luck.

Several different tones of creaking sound overhead, and Jessica immediately goes on guard. What are the chances one of those 'zombie' things had found a way to sneak past her and go upstairs? She knew it wasn't likely, but.. Considering they can't legitimately climb, as in up to a second-story window, there's no other option, really. Taking a defensive position toward the end of the stairs, she holds her hunting knife in her right hand, her left hand out beside her as her legs bend ever so slightly at the knee, and her back straight making her lean forward just a bit. The stance was one she'd learned long ago, and seemed to almost intimidate those soulless creatures. Hesitation was always their reaction, no matter how faint, always gave her a brief moment in which she recognizes the up and coming victory. As usual, though, her attention is split between the stairway and her sister. She couldn't allow this one creeping down to be distraction enough to pull her away from Elyssa- she wouldn't allow her to be hurt, nor given room for the virus to become active. She would save her sister no matter the cost.

Sam makes her way to where the little latter/stairs part of the attic is and pushes it down, it hitting the second floor hallway with a loud BANG, making eve Sam cringe. Ooops..guess I'll have to be more careful. She'd think to herself as she slowly descended down the, most likely unstable latter/stairs. Sam was on guard enough and as she'd make her way down, she wouldn't bother with closing up the latter/stairs, there was no point, there was nothing up there of importance for her. Slowly and carefully, Sam would make her way from the hallway to the stop of the stairs, the wood flooring squealing and moaning, meaning the house was most likely far too old or had a lot of problems.

Jessica manages to not flinch nor jump with an echoing bang sounds upstairs. Confusion took over her expression and mood, What could have possibly been big enough to make such a noise?! She shakes her head, deciding to forget about such questions for the moment and focus only on the approaching moans of the floor boards and stairs. She knew just how noisy this old house was, as it's a safe spot the siblings had often taken advantage of. She stays in her defensive posture, watching as her sister tosses over to her other side, almost falling off the couch. She almost runs over to push her back onto it properly, but is unable to as the moans sound directly above her, meaning whatever it was was about to descend the stairs, straight toward her.

Sam pushes forward, then descends down the stairs, they being quiet as they were covered in carpet, which was strange because most of the house was hardwood flooring. Nonetheless though, as Sam reached the middle of the stairs she saw a girl looking right up at her. It was quite a shock to her, as she didn't think anyone was in the house but her. Sam's light grey eyes stare into those of the other girl's, her face being utterly emotionless, though inside her heart was racing. As the moment of shock passed, Sam held up her hands as she mean no harm toward the girl, seeing as the girl looked completely normal, and non-zombish.

Jessica blinks a few times in confusion as she sees a girl walking down the stairs normally, nothing seeming off about her. Her position relaxes slightly and she stands up a bit straighter before furrowing her brows. "How did you get into this house?" Her question was stated in an authoritative voice, not bothering to keep her tone down as Elyssa couldn't be awoken by that, anyway. She'd slept against the door last night, so this girl couldn't have snuck in when she was asleep... The only explanation is that she had climbed up into one of the second story windows, but... When? Before sleeping during the night, and this morning after awakening, the woman had checked the entire house for any stragglers, as well as for supplies.. But never did she see any sign that someone had been there aside from herself and her sister, at least not in a very long time...

Sam lowers her hands and points to her lips, then puts a big X over them, trying to tell the girl she doesn't speak. She wished that she could speak in sign language, but it was something she grasped at when her mother tried to teach it to her, Sam also hoped the girl would understand her gesture, other wise Sam would have to reach out and spell on the girl's arm with her index finger, which was something she didn't wish to do, seeing as the situation was already tense.

Jessica immediately understands what the girl was saying. She couldn't speak. She smiles softly and nods before lifting up her hands and beginning to sign, 'I understand. My name is Jessica, what's yours?' She assumes that the girl would know sign, seeing as how she doesn't speak. Jessica herself had been learning for the past six years, ever since Elyssa had to learn after losing her hearing. She was the only one in the family who put in the time to be able to speak to her younger sister without needing a paper and pencil...

She was still weary of the mysterious mute girl standing on the steps, but she figures she'll give benefit of the doubt. And, of course, she wouldn't hint to her little sister being asleep on the couch which had the back facing them, currently.

Sam's face gets a small frown as she tries her best to read the signs, but it was a bit too hard, she could never get them, she wasn't good at coordinating herself or understanding them. She figured out the gist, perhaps, of what the girl had said and she reached out slowly, wishing to grab the girls hand. Sam had tried to make this look non-threatening, but depending on what had happened to this Jessica girl, she might now allow her to grab her wrist and 'write' on the palm of her hand.

Jessica allows the girl to take her wrist, but tightens her hold on her knife in her free hand. She wasn't just about to let her guard down just because this girl 'couldn't' talk, but she would allow her the chance to explain herself. This was another thing she'd witnessed while going to ASL classes with her sister. Many mute people, or deaf who refuse to speak, will write on palms or wrists with their fingers to spell out what they need to say, especially if they don't quite know how to sign. She assumed that's what this girl was doing, but still had her knife at the ready incase the situation changed drastically.

Sam lets out a small breath, inwardly thanking whatever, that this girl understood what she was doing. Gently, Sam raised the girl's hand and turned in palm side up. Once it was there, she extended her other hand and softly wrote on the girl's palm with her other index finger. I'm Sam. Sorry, I can't really understand Sign, but you're Jessica right? Sam looked into the girl's eyes as she sprawled out the words on her palm. Sam desperately hoped this girl wouldn't take her as threatening, as she honestly didn't want to hurt another survivor like her, but she knew if the situation took the wrong turn, she'd have too.

Jessica smiles faintly and nods. Her hold on the knife slacks slightly, but her guard doesn't lower. She then begins to wonder if she should get her notepad and pens from Essie's bag, or if Sam was able to hear. "Can you hear, Sam?" She quirks an eyebrow gently, her tone neither condescending nor pitying, simply curious.

((Wow.. Cruddy reply on my part xD Sorry x3))

Sam nods then writes on Jessica's hand again. I can hear perfectly fine. Sam's heart rate was now at a calm steady pace again and she could feel the hair that was standing on end, slowly taming itself and that's when she noticed how truly exhausted the other girl looked. Had she not slept? Sam understood getting no sleep, but this girl looked like she seriously had NOT slept in ages, then again Sam couldn't really speak. She imagined that she herself looked quite rough with her torn black skinny jeans that were covered in who knew what, along with the rest of her body. She could only imagine what her face and hair looked like.

Jessica nods, the soft smile turning into an open-mouthed yawn. She quickly composes herself from this, though, and looks back toward the two bags she and Elyssa had sat up against the back of the couch. "Are you hungry? Or thirsty? I've got plenty of breakfast bars and water..." She picks up hers, the beige messenger bag, and pulls out one of the bars as well as a bottle of water. It's true she was still worrying about having enough for herself and Elyssa, but she would happily go without. This girl seemed as though she would need it, and as she obviously was younger, she wouldn't be stingy. So what if the world had gone to hell? She was still one who believed the older people should look out for the younger ones. That they are roll models, and she would not be one to turn away a girl in need. She could tell by her appearance, even by the air around her, that this girl was exhausted. She had obviously been through a lot.

Sam's eyes linger on the bar for what seems like forever, as she covers her stomach unknowingly. She hadn't ate in what felt like years, when really it was only 3-4 weeks. Her stomach ached painfully from where she didn't eat, but she couldn't take this girl's food. She knew what it was like to scavenge for food, and besides she had a can of peaches in her bag, though she was saving those for a special occasion. Sam tore her gaze from the bar and looked back at the girl and shook her head. No. That's her food, and she needs it, I'll be fine, besides I still have a half a bottle of water. That will tie me over..I hope. Sam thought.

Jessica sighs and shakes her head. "I understand if you're trying to be nice... But, and this isn't meant to be rude, I can tell how in need you are. I've got plenty, so really, you don't need to worry." She walks forward and gently takes one of Sam's hands, then puts the bar into it and closes her fingers around it. "Please. It'll mean a lot to me if you'll just eat."

It's then she hears a faint, mostly muted groaning sound. However, this time it's not from pain nor fear. She sets the bottle of water on a side table before walking over and squatting down next to the couch. She smiles at Elyssa as she slowly opens her eyes and grins sleepily to her sister, blissfully unaware of the current events, or of their 'guest'. She opens her mouth to speak, but quickly stops herself. When she was younger she'd get bullied for the sound of her voice since she's deaf, so now she's become afraid to speak. Instead, she slowly sits up and raises her hands to begin signing to her older sister. "Morning... How long have you been up?" Jessica tilts her head from side to side, playfully contemplating the question before signing back, "About three hours... You slept in today, kiddo!" Both sisters chuckle before Jessica gently takes her hand and helps her to stand up, then walks her around the couch and gestures to Sam, "This is Sam" she signs, then looks to Sam and gestures to Elyssa, "This is Elyssa, my sister."

Sam's mouth quirks up ever so slightly, that's the most she'd smiled in a long time and it shocks even her. She hadn't seen a kid in so long, it gives her the urge to hug the little girl but she doesn't move, just stands there with a very tiny smile blessing her dirty features. After a minute more of simply looking at the child she waves to her then looks up at Jessica and gestures with her free hand a walking motion, this being her way of asking if she may come closer. The child had distracted her from the food she'd just gotten which was lightly cupped in her hand.

Jessica smiles softly and nods as Sam smiles then silently asks to come a bit closer. Elyssa, on the other hand, didn't understand the gesture. She turns so that her side was facing the unknown girl, then looks up to her sister and signs. "I never saw that sign before... Is she deaf like me?" Jessica smiles faintly and shakes her head no. She knows how her sister has always craved another deaf person to bond with, seeing as how she didn't know anyone else who could really understand what she felt... She then signs back to her "No, baby girl.. She's mute, but she isn't deaf. She doesn't know sign, though, so she uses her own gestures as well as writing on people's hands. You know, like Jamie used to do." She knew that bringing up her sister's old teacher may not have been the best idea, as that man turned out to be a rather sick and cruel individual, but Elyssa knew nothing about any of that... She only knows they had to find a new teacher, but Jessica never told her why... And never would. She then clears her throat, shaking those thoughts away as she looks again at Sam, "Sorry, yeah.. You can come over."

Sam nods and softly approaches the two. Once closer she looks down at Elyssa and creases her brows, the girl was younger than she thought..and she looked like she might need a change of clothes, which reminded Sam about where she had slept, a child's room! Looking over at Jessica, she'd grab her wrist and spell out: Does she need clothes? The fast pace at which she was writing might hint at the fact she was inwardly excited, though she wasn't sure why she was so excited, she'd just met these two..but then again, the thought of the younger girl's face lighting up at the thought of brand new clothes.
