The Demons Inside Us.

-.-.Lucifer.-.-

Previously Lucifer1
Flames licked the sky above their heads, the stars casting their nightly spell over them. In the middle of the huddle a man with bright red hair stood among the mass of children, all of which were becoming of age. His intense green eyes took in their meek faces, onyx colored horns poking out from the top of his head. Wren scooped his hand into the roaring flames, causing them to settle as a ball of red licked his perfectly preserved skin. Silence fell over the small huddle, parents and elders settling along the outskirts of the ring. It seemed the whole village was listening in on the tale that would be spoken once every 18 years.

"In the beginning..." he started, bare feet poking at the coals in front of him. "Mother earth and Father sky met along the horizon, and the first human was born." He threw the orange sphere in the air, allowing it to scatter above their heads, small specs of burning ash falling around them, becoming cold before it touched their skin. "Loneliness eventually settled along her heart, and she wished to bear a child. She called to the gods, asking for the gift of a companion. Something to hold and cherish." Grabbing a handful of dirt he let the grains slip between his fingers. "So, Father Sky bestowed upon her a man." He took a few moments, staring at the young faces. "Unsatisfied, she pleaded to the stars for a child she could call her own. A Babe that could grow and learn from her own mistakes, one that could carry humanity through the ages." By this time, the eldest had sat down, his face level with the students that surrounded him. "Afraid the humans would become greedy, the gods gave them only one option; to take a life in order to gain one. The couple were distraught, their feelings towards living beings being the same as the spirits in the trees. However, the need for another to call her own was strong, and when a woman sets her mind to something..." He made a soft sigh, as if everyone around had the slightest idea of the power a woman could have if she wanted something bad enough.

Some of the village hunters laughed lightly, only to stop abruptly, for their mates glare had bit deep.

"The first demon to be slain was a Dragon. The mates battled for many days and many nights, each chipping away at the creatures scales. Fire and earth were scattered among the trees, but they never quit."

A hand raised in the air, belonging to a soft featured girl, her eyes icey blue. Long ringlets of black hair fell around her face, causing her pale skin to look even more so. "You were the first born." She pointed out, her voice soft. Her cheeks were splashed with a tinge of red, the cold air biting deep. Raven glanced around her, the young taking in her words and quickly applying it to the present. Eyes widened.

"Correct, Raven, I am the son of the first humans." He cleared his throat, standing again. A jittery air about him caused a small wave of discomfort, but was dampened as he continued to speak. "They fought the beast for many days, and in the end triumphed." He stared down at the girl who had spoken, taking in the pattern of dark lines that ran parallel to her cheekbones, tattoos given to her on her 18th summer. "Burying the bones, they waited a hundred years. In the end digging the remains up and burning them. Does anyone know why?"

Another hand shot up, light grey skin belonging to another becoming-of-age known only by his blackened eyes and short temper. Selix spoke around a mouth full of sharp teeth, small dots embedded along the sides of his head indicating he'd also turned 18 in the last few months. "Burning the dead releases their soul, and in the case of mating, it provides a spirit-animal for the child."

"And the child will be given abilities from that animal on it's eighteenth birth-night!" A girl blurted out, sharp yellow eyes pinned on the eldest, thick straight blond locks framing her strong face. A forked tongue fell from between her teeth as she spoke. A solid red line from the bottom of her lip, down her neck and splitting off in two directions at her collarbones, another indicator she was of age.

"Very good, Piper, but next time why don't you let me finish the tale, there are many children here have never heard of our origins."

"Why do you speak of it still?" Selix asked, pure black hues reflecting the dancing colors in the center. "The forest has made its wishes known. We've taken too much from the trees, and soon the gods will be enraged by our greed."

"Don't frighten the young." Raven spat, her hand flying into the back of her brother's head. She had large black wings, only they had been tucked tightly against her back until now, her feathers ruffled with anger.

Sun scratched his forearm with annoyance. Parts of his arms, legs and, back had scales on them and they hard starting to bother him for a couple of days now. He crinkled his brow and Donovan came walking to him with a basket of fish in it. He was carrying the basket with his tusks, showing off again. "What took you so long?" Donovan chuckled and plucked the basket off his tusks. "Maybe next time you can buy the food then? Plus you were whining about your scales." Sun stuck his snake-like tongue out, walking away from Donovan.

Donovan frowned. "You're going the wrong way. The village is east.."

Wren craned his neck to count the becoming-of-age, his brow furrowing as the number in his head wouldn't add up to the amount of young before him. His mouth formed a tight straight line. "Donovan and Sun have not returned for the gathering." He said impatiently, eyes pinning on the three that normally interacted with the two males. "Raven, scout them out. I won't tolerate tardiness."

The soft faced girl nodded, standing from her cross-legged sitting position and running to the west. She picked up speed quickly, her wide-set wings spreading wide. She caught a gust of wind and the muscles along her back worked furiously, wings beating loose soil from the ground as she rose into the trees. Her thick lashes licked her cheeks as she took in the small moment of calm that fell over her body. The wind whipped dark curls around her face, the feeling of the sky catching her causing a familiar sense of freedom. She opened her eyes quickly, pupils becoming small pinpricks as she scanned the earth below. The smell of soft mud and sand brought her attention to the underbrush, the thick tusks of Donovan gleaming in the moon.

She tucked in her wings, picking up momentum as she dove to the ground. She grabbed a thick branch, allowing her to land feet first in front of Sun, wings spread wide. She gazed at him with light doe-eyes, but dark brows turned in a soft frown.

"Where do you think you're going?" She asked, walking close to him so he towered over her small frame. She had to stand on her tip-toes in order to meet his face. "This is our birthright." She said with an offended tone, her features showing a sliver of heartbreak.

Donovan snickered and Sun gave him a threatening look. Sun held up his hands defensively, looking at Raven with a smirk. "I'm sorry, we just got a little carried away. That old man needs to loosen up and so do yo-" Before Sun could insult Raven any further, Donovan laid his fingers on his shoulders as to tell him, Stop it, she was just looking out for us. Sun shrugged off his friend's arm and grunted. ''Well we're going okay? Unless Wren said you needed to escort us back too.'' He unclenched his fists but he still wanted to tell Raven off. If only Donovan wasn't here. Stupid guy has a crush on her.

Raven's face became stoic and calm, her breathing leveled as the other had continued to speak. She was often unaffected by insults, or any form of offensive speak pointed at her. However disrespect to the elders wasn't taken lightly. "You wish you were half as great as Wren." She said coolly, brushing past him so her feathers lightly brushed his face. "I'm sure you can take care of yourself." She breathed, walking to the east slowly, her black wings folding tight against her black hemp-woven shirt. She felt the irritating ache in her shoulders caused by the furious take off and her hurried flight over. Raven moved her hair over her right shoulder, gently rubbing the sore tendon. "I just can't bring myself to fly anymore." She let out a pained sigh, hating to admit the lengths she'd go for her peers. "Your persistence is strong, I'll give you that."

Sun snorted but Donovan rushed over to Raven, dropping his basket of fish. Sun shook his head disapprovingly, moron. A worried expression stretched over his face as he bent down to Raven's height, being exceptionally tall. "Are you alright, Raven? I am able to carry you over if that is necessary." Sun picked up the basket of fish and started walking east. "Probably some mint leaves or something in the forest. I'll go find some." He said the sentence with no emotion, his steps calm and slow. Wren.

Shocked by the sudden chivalrous behavior, Raven paused for a brief moment trying to collect her thoughts. She met Donovan's soft gaze but quickly looked away, watching Sun walk off slowly to pick some herbs. "That's sweet, Don." She breathed, and gave him a small smile. "It's just my back, I'll be fine to walk." Raven continued on towards the village, the responsibility of being of age weighing heavy on her mind. This meant she had to stand with the hunters to protect the young, to protect their home. She shuddered, thinking of the creatures that could be roaming in the darkness that surrounded them. She watches the fires blazing in the distance, the light from the ceremonial gathering the only thing keeping her going. Eventually she would have to choose between taking on a mate, or protecting the lives of the ones she loved until her death would come. Her mind unraveled, the options making her heart race. "We're adults now." She said aloud, letting the words hang in the air around them. She'd just admitted when they'd all grown to fear. This meant the world was now a cruel place, and the lush bliss that was once innocent ignorance was now gone.

Forever.

Donovan raised his eyebrow, giving Raven an odd look. "What was that?" He took his eyes off her and looked directly in front of him and he could make out the faintest image of Sun waiting for them by a large oak tree. By what Donovan could see, Sun was playing with an acorn while the basket of fish sat on the ground with a pile of mint leaves sitting neatly on top. Sun turned his head slowly towards the two in boredom. "If you guys don't hurry up, the food will start to smell. Unless you'd like to keep talking about-" Donovan flicked his wrists and a column of dirt smashed into Sun from the side. Donovan chuckled. "What were you saying Sun?"

Sun got back up on his knees, his hair full of dirt and pebbles. He was going to say something, but he fell back on his stomach in exhaustion.

Hope this is better =)

(Perfect ^-^)

Raven shook her head at the two, their constant bickering and cutting off eachother's sentences had become a normal thing. It was hard for her to take anything they said seriously. "Honestly." She said with a sigh, picking up the basket of fresh fish, her small arms surprisingly strong as she lifted it from the ground. "I was just saying we're older now. We need to set an example for the young" she hurried past the treeline, meeting the harsh eyes of her brother as he stood watch.

"You're all late." He huffed, coal-like hues burning holes in the faces of the young men who accompanied his sibling. Selix grabbed the basket from her hands, and gently handed it to one of the women who were preparing their meal.

Piper chuckled, her striking eyes gleaming under the moon as she started at Donovan, his soft features causing red to tinge her ears. "What took so long, you missed the best part." She slithered, her voice low as her tongue pokes out from white teeth.

Donovan chuckled as he scratched his stubble. "Did I? I guess I'll have to ask Wren about it.. I mean after he beats me with a stick for being late." He looked at Piper with curiosity and amusement. "You okay Piper? You look a little red." He chuckled again and patted her head, walking right past her and walking to Selix to talk about the hunt for fish.

Sun mumbled and trudged past the treeline with a frown on his face. Without even looking at anyone he mumbled to himself, "I need a shower." He pulled on Donovan's horns as he walked by, grinning.

Piper sat dumbfounded her head feeling the ghost of the taller male's hand. "I'm fine--"

She glanced down at her bare feet embarrassment rushing over her.

"The men and woman of the hour." A low voice caught everyone's attention, causing a warm and intimidating air to settle around them. Wren's hand shot out, clawed fingers grasping onto the neck of Sun's top. He glanced coolly at all five of the students, green eyes glowing in the darkness. "Celebrate, it's not every day I get to welcome strong warriors into our home." As he said this he looked down at Sun, his face serious but kind. Being the eldest, you would have assumed he'd look far older then his appearance would allow. He had a young face, small worry lines forming along his forehead and mouth giving him the looks of a 35 year old. "Stay. Please." With that he patted the snake-soul on the shoulder and proceeded to walk into the roaring flames, his bare back sprouting thick onyx-colored spikes.

Raven's eyes gleamed as she stared at the dragon-soul standing unscathed within the dancing light. Her heart almost flying into her throat. She'd always looked up to him, his influences being what had caused her to exceed under his studies, and achieve her birth-right early. She was the youngest of the group, but never allowed anyone to make her feel small for this fact. "Sun, you should stay." She said quietly as Selix wandered towards the ring of freshly tattooed kids, looking for a girl to dance with.

Sun clenched his fists and gritted his teeth. He heard a few people in the background chuckle at him. "He just made me look like a fool." Sun wiped a few more pebbles out of his hair. "I'm going to find my sister, have fun with the old bat." Sun made a quick salute and left in anger but he felt bad for letting his anger out at Raven. After asking two souls, he found his sister admiring the tulips by a pond that sat far away from the crowd of people. She had a couple of fish bones beside her. At the sound of Sun's footsteps, her ears perked up. She giggled and looked at Sun, amused. "What happened to you?!" Sun grunted.

"Donovan. Can you pass me the metal container beside you?" She handed a bent and scratched metal container which they usually used for washing. He scooped up water from the pond and dipped his hair gently in it. "Raven thinks I should stay. I'm only staying if you are. I need to protect you, y'know." Kat rolled her eyes. "For your information, I am staying but you don't have to. I can take care of myself." Sun laughed but she pushed his face further into the water bowl, making him nearly choke. She released her grip and giggled. "I'm going to find some guy to dance with."

Donovan sat on a rock that sprouted from deep into the ground watching the smiling faces of the people around him. He crossed his legs and closed his eyes, taking a deep breath in. He focused on the plants and wildlife around him, taking in the scents.

A girl with soft red hair and feline ears to match came into veiw. Selix's dark brows to raise slightly, curiosity burning in his throat . She was the sister of the male snake-soul his younger sibling had always been hanging around, always getting into trouble with. He brushed the thought aside and walked up to her, his hallow eyes warm. "Care to dance with a water-soul?" He asked softly, bowing lightly as he extended his hand towards Kat. Their spirit animals might have quarreled, but the way she looked in the glow of the flames made his heart hammer hard against his ribs.

Piper sauntered over towards Donovan, her cheeks warm as she lightly tapped him on the shoulder. "I know you fancy Raven." She cleared her throat, feeling very out of sorts. It wasn't like her to be timid or soft-spoken. "... but I was wondering if you'd dance with me." She took a step back her eyes turned back down to her feet again.

Raven watched the eldest dance in the flames, his young daughter joyously running around the coals, her moonlight-colored hair resembling the soul of the lynx. She took in the scene, her ears perked as the small gathering of dear-skin dumbs and echoed chants making her blood rush. Her eyes fell along the light hair of Sun, water dripping from his face. She walked over slowly, her bare feet wandering along the treeline, stepping along the cusp of darkness. "Why are you so angry?" She asked, crouching down to stare into the sky's reflection along the rippling surface. "You should be proud of the power and life you have." She looked up at him with a small smile, sitting along the edge of the pond. She stuck her feet into the liquid, watching the ripples disturb the fish below. Her wings stretched out behind her, small stray feathers floating to the ground behind her. The forest seemed still, the cold night air making goose bumps rise along her arms.

Donovan opened his eyes almost immediately. He looked at Piper for about three seconds before speaking. He swiftly leaped off the rock and looked at Piper with a caring, gentle look. "Piper, I'd love to dance with you." He raised his hand out for Piper to take. He reassured it with a grin.

➖➖➖➖➖

Kat giggled. 'You are quite the gentlemen. I guess I'd love to dance with you." She accepted his hand and her face brightened. "Selix, is it? You are the elder brother of Raven I assume."

➖➖➖➖➖➖

Sun hissed disapprovingly. "Look at this place. I hate it- everyone is smiling and laughing when we should be training and sleeping. It doesn't help that Donovan slammed me into the mud earlier today and Wren embarrassed me in front of others. I really don't see what you see in him, Raven. Yes, he is a dragon soul but that doesn't mean anything. I could lead this place if I wanted to." He stroked his hands through his blonde hair as he finished washing it.

Piper took his hand a small smile breaking across her face. They swayed gently to the sound of the drums, her golden hair bouncing as she pressed her body against his, her face pointed up to meet his gaze. Her breath catching in her throat.

Selix pulled Kat's body in close, his other hand gently laying along the small of her back. He dipped her head down, holding her steady as he swung her back into his grasp. He danced with grace, his movements as flawless as if he were in water, natural. "My ma raised me well." He said with a small smirk lifting her above his head.

Raven glared down at the droplets of water that fell along the pool, his words biting deep into her. She could feel tears prick along the sides of her lids, her arms wrapped tightly around her shivering body. She swallowed hard, taking a shaky breath as she tried to bring her stoic expression back. "Do you hate me?" She asked but never glanced back up at him, her crystal-like hues staring straight at the forest beyond the body of water. Something blue along the treeline caught her eye, making her forget their conversation completely. Her eyes widened.

A scream was what ripped everyone's attention away from the joyous celebration. The bellow had come from the mouth of a wolf-soul, his eyes rolling in the back of his head as blood rushed from the gaping hole in his stomach. On top of him leered a fox larger then any animal they'd ever laid eyes on, it's white fur was stained pink around the muzzle. Bright glowing blue eyes pinned on the eldest, an echoing voice booming around them. We gave you the gift of life. And you dance on our ground as if it were our graves!

Wren came forward, his eyes shining with an intense fire as he walked from the burning coals, body still ablaze. "This is a peaceful celebration for the spirits that reside in these children's hearts! You've aloud the demon to consume you Ashara!" He growled, motioning for the warriors and the men to retrieve the women and young ones.

Selix quickly grabbed Kat, his strength allowing him to spring into the trees just as the pack sprang from the darkness. Teeth sunk deep into flesh, ripping lives away as Wren pounced on the bitter Spirit.

The black slits in Sun's eyes thinned as he saw the spirit. He walked past Raven, his fists clenched. "We'll talk about this later. Let's get out, and quickly." He turned around and extended his hand. "Are you coming?"

➖➖➖➖➖

Kat was smiling until the spirit came. Her eyes widened in fear as she was being pulled away by Selix. She had the urge to scream at the sight of a fellow soul being killed like that but she turned around, wiping what was left of her tears. "Selix? What will happen to Wren?" Her tail flicked upwards at the sound of the screams.

➖➖➖➖➖

Donovan squinted. "I would fight that foul beast, but it looks like Wren has it under control." He grinned and picked up Piper, bride-style. "I might protect the woman though." He started dashing towards the outskirts of the forests, looking for Sun. His feet moved so fast that he probably only bended a couple blades of grass. He look down at Piper, concerned. "Tell me if you want me to slow down."

All around them fox-spirits wrestled warriors to the ground, their maws filling with meat as they tore into limbs. Blood splashed along the ground, a man to the right with the howl of a whining dog tried to pull his arm out of a beast's grip, only to inevitably tear his flesh from the seems, his skin ripping as he screamed for mercy. Ashara's fur caught fire as Wren tore his talons into the beast's face, the wolf nipping at his legs. He clambered up the blazing body, the smell of crisp bubbling flesh and hair taking over the camp's air. Ashara growled furiously, throwing its body back. The dragon-soul slammed against the tree Selix had been inhabiting, making the shark-soul jump high into the air, the cat clasped tightly to his chest. It took only a moment for the eldest to catch himself, tearing his body away from the torched tree. He murmured an apology to the tree's soul as he bound forward, the horns along his head growing at an alarming rate. The spikes that had lined his back now extended farther then ever witnessed, the tips burning a bright blue as he struck the beast in the eyes just as it had gotten to its feet. It let out another bellow of anger and pain and clampped its jaws tightly onto his arm, only to squeal as its mouth scorched.

Selix shielded them as one of the trees toppled towards them, it's blazing leaves making him leap back once more, landing on the ground softly. He slung the feline girl over one shoulder, and began to sprint. "Wren can hold his own, but if we don't survive then who can avenge this?" He growled, his black eyes filling with a sort of rage that grew slowly, one that barely coated his features.

Piper let out a yelp as Donovan picked her up in his arms, her body looking small against his chest. "My father's back there!" She shrieked, trying to wriggle from his grip as the fire had begun to spread through the vast underbrush. She felt acidic tears start to roll down her cheek, but she quickly blinked them back, fear of them splashing upon her subordinate's body and eating through his skin. She tried to pry herself from him, her eyes pinned on a brown-bearded man, his fangs sunk deep into a fox-spirit's neck, his torso clamped tightly in it's teeth. She stopped moving, allowing the Bharal-soul to grip her as he ran. She let herself watch as the beast ripped into her father's insides, consuming his organs.

Raven watched with sorrowful eyes, her hues glistening in the flame as Sun's hand extended towards her. She glanced back at the elder who sacrificed himself in order to save the village. She swallowed hard again, and grasped his hand, running with him. She let her legs carry her away from the village, and deep into the darkness of the unknown. All three pairs pairs were running in the same direction, to the west. Her legs worked quickly, fingers clasped tightly around Sun's as they tore through the bracket. Her breath came quick as she fought the urge to spread her wings and take off. If she couldn't carry the man who stayed by her side, there was no way she'd allow herself to fly away. Not like a coward.

She wasn't weak.

But she was afraid.

Tears threatened to grip her lungs as the light behind them seemed to fade, shouts distant. Blood rushed to her ears as she continued on.

Donovan's face tensed and he caught up to Sun and Raven. He put Piper down, without saying a single word. "Sun, do me a favour and take care of Piper as well." He paused to smash his fists together. "I want to go help Wren. I don't think he'll be able to hold on for long.." Donovan took a glance at Piper with sympathy. "Plus, some people need to be avenged." Before Sun could reply, Donovan was off again, leaping back to the village. Sun frowned and took Piper's hand, stopping to look at her. "Are you alright?"

➖➖➖➖➖

Kat didn't reply, but she buried her face into Selix's shoulder, avoiding the sight of what was happening in the village. "I just hope Sun got out fine."

Piper ripped her hand away from her subordinate, gritting her teeth at him as tears spilled from her eyes. The liquid that splashed upon the ground sizzled and hissed as it ate away at the plant life. She sunk to her knees, body rippling with sobs as Selix landed a few feet away, allowing the feline to rest upon her feet before crouching over the crying girl. "Donovan can't fight he won't survive!" He growled at Sun, before glancing down at the hand that was clasping his sister's palm. "Raven go." He ordered, her features showing something fowl.

"No, I can't just leave them all!" She yelled at him but was cut off.

"Do as your fucking told!" His voice was shrill, and he quickly ran off towards the Bharal-soul his anger the only thing fueling him right.

Wren's hand was embedded into the fox-spirit's chest, his fingers clamping around its heart. He ripped his arm back, the flesh sizzling in his hand. The village was alive with death, and as soon as he made out the young ones bounding to his aid, he lifted his other arm with the remaining of his energy. A wall of flames came up around the battle, keeping anything from entering or leaving. He stared at the coal eyes of Selix as he clamped a hand on his peer's shoulder trying to keep him from going any farther.

"Don't let our home die in vein boys." He yelled with his remaining breath. "I'll find you, I promise." He crawled to the earth, his body going limp as the flames grew, eventually consuming the empty village.

Sun mocked Selix in annoyance and reached for Piper's hands. "Let's go." Kat flicked her tail up and down, looking at Selix go with red sprawled all over her cheeks. Sun rolled his eyes. "Let's go princess." What Sun got in response was a slap to the head.

➖➖➖➖➖

Donovan leaped back as flames nearly licked his hair right off. "Where's Wren?" He couldn't see much through the fire, so he pushed his hands downwards and a pillar of rock sprouted beneath him so he could get a better view of the elder. Carelessly, Donovan fell onto the dirt. Only one image replayed in his eyes: Wren. He tried to stand up but his left leg wouldn't co-operate. He got up in pain and grunted.

The elder and what was left of the village was nowhere to be seen, ashes riddling the ground. Selix grabbed hold of the man's shoulder with a harder grip. "We have to leave! Together we're strong, but apart we're nothing."

He tugged on the other's arm anger flaring in his features, intense annoyance at the fact that no one was listening. They never did. "Wren knows what he's doing! We just have to stay alive!"

Piper wrenched her hand away again, her rage-filled slits narrowing as she hissed at her peer. "Don't you ever fucking touch me!" Her voice was high pitched, body shaking as she mourned her lost family.

Raven moved forward, her voice the only calm that rang in the midnight air. "Sun, please." She whispered, her grip on reality loosening, refusing to believe the worst until she had been given the proof. "We're all scare." She admitted, biting her lip in order to keep it from trembling. "Just please give us a break, for once!" Her voice cracked, but she kept herself in tact. Stitching herself together with cheap thread, she took a deep breath and helped Piper to her feet, her fingers softly stroking the girl's scalp. She winced as the acid bit into her shoulder, but ignored the burn to allow the other's sorrow to flow freely. She let her soft blue gaze lock with the male viper, refusing to let herself feel vulnerable and weak. "Please get the other boys, we need to find shelter."

"I'm not scared, because I know. Wren wouldn't want you crying so why the hell are you doing it now?" Sun sighed and looked at his sister in annoyance. "Good, you're the only one that's stable- take care of them while I find more men." Before Kat could object, Sun slithered away leaving a trail of sand.

➖➖➖➖➖

Donovan coughed. "Let's go find everyone else, then." He got up and stroked his horns in pain.

➖➖➖➖➖

Kat was silent and looked at Piper, her face showing no emotion. Without looking away she began speaking to Raven. "Raven, what is it like to have family? I know I have my brother.. but Sun refuses to tell me anything outside of the family." She knelt down, patting Piper gently, trying her best to calm the girl down. "It must be painful, yes? Piper, your parents will be avenged- even if I have to do it myself."

Raven closed her eyes and let out a puff of hot air from between her teeth. On every level, whether she wanted to admit it or not, Sun had been right. Though Raven had done a well enough job keeping herself together, the snake-soul was falling apart in her arms. She let the acid spill over her skin, the smell of burning flesh making her grit her teeth as they stood there waiting for the men to arrive. "It is painful." She said honestly, her wings tucked tightly against her back. "But in the end, blood is thicker then water." She glanced sideways at the feline, her natural instincts to flee from a cat making her small body go ridged. "I'd rather spend my days listening to Selix yell at me then be alone." The words bit deep, making another wave of sadness wash over Piper, only causing more pain to swell along the raven-soul's skin. Blood had started to form, and the steam that rose from her body made the dark-haired girl's mind swim.

Selix nodded to the accepting peer and bound forward with him, meeting the seemingly irritates glance of the viper. They bound past them, his eyes locking on the ever growing wound that was quickly building along his sister's shoulder. He almost lost his head, but soon realized Raven was only enduring the pain in order to comfort her unrelated family. "We can't stay here longer. It's not safe." He said walking past them and taking the lead. "Wren said he'd find us. He must have something planned." He cast the thought over his shoulder as he pressed on, not even the crickets greeting them in the darkness.

Kat nodded. "I can climb a tree and check our surroundings if you'd like, Selix." Donovan grunted but crinkled his nose as he could still smell the flames and the blood. He looked at Piper with concern. He knelt down to her level and tried his best to look straight into her eyes. "Piper, I promise, once we find shelter I will do something about your family." He waved the others to continue and turned his head around. "We'll catch up." He turned back to Piper. "You'll have to get up first. I know how it feels to watch family members die.. but if you get up, you can change things."

It was difficult for Raven to pry herself from the girl, but once Donovan's voice had sifted through the static in her head she ripped herself from the poor girl's shoulder and glanced up at the eldest of the group. Wiping tears from her unscathed face she grabbed his hand and tried to calm herself.

Raven stumbled back slightly, one hand covering the bleeding wound that had taken over a large section of her shoulder, the pain intense. She managed to keep her features stoic as she slumped behind Sun and Selix, her eyes pinned down towards the ground. Warm scarlet liquid laced her fingertips as she moved on, grasping onto the thought of avenging the death of their loved ones the only thing keeping the pain from affecting her.

Selix nodded to Kat, his own hues scanning the area. "Be careful!" He called after the feline.
