Fantasy The Covenant

FaithEvergreen

Herbal Healer
The world of magic users is a sacred place filled with those who desire to preserve balance in nature. It is highly connected to the human realm, this connection existing so magic users can easily make changes necessary to preserve the protections the humans have. These protections themselves grant humans freedom from the wrath of demon-kind which remain trapped in the walls of their realm...however it is not guaranteed these walls can hold forever as it is not unheard of for a demon to manage to crawl its way past the barrier and into the human world. A demons ultimate goal: To enter the realm of witches to obtain the Elemental Chain that is keeping the barrier in place.

Young magic users, witches and wizards, are studying and training to one day become a full fledged member of the covenant. During their training they will find their primary talent...

*Summoning [spirits, animals, demons, etc; usually have great abilities of taming and achieve great connections with familiars.]

*Healing [Notable herbal healers as well as magic healers]

*Charming [Creating enchanted tools and weaponry]

*Combatant [Paralysis, strength enhancement, limited ability improvements]

*Elemental Magic [Air, Fire, Water, or Earth magic]

*Necromancy [Particularly rare skill, often paired with summoning skill]

In a magic-user's life their is a period of time they must test their skills and finalize their talents. For a period of three years magic-users are sent to a mysterious and dangerous world, a limbo between the Magic, Human and Demon realms, in order to achieve their titles as full-fledged magic-users. It is a dangerous path and many have lost their lives in the trial...but in order to be entrusted with the future lives within the human realm, these young witches and wizards must earn their keep.

Living alone within what seemed to be an eternal forest was not much of a forced action in Faith's eyes...but a choice. In the beginning of her transitional period she had desired to seek others, hoping to use her own skills and the skills of others in order to survive the trial they all faced. After many days of watching magic-users battle for resources and eventually power within groups of people, she had decided to travel alone. It was hard at first, but over time with the help of her familiar she had managed to make a place for herself. Of course she lived in a small wooden shack by the river...but it was better than living out in the dirt somewhere.

Just the other day Faith had heard voices in the darkness... Realizing some magic users are drawing closer to her safe-haven, Faith had begun to realize how her world of isolation may be coming to a end. Only year had gone by since her trial started...how much time did she have left before another terrible confrontation began and brought even more death upon her doorstep?

Halk Planski was working. He didn't want to be sent to limbo origionally, he didn't need to be recognized as a magic user, he just needed to be left alone to his work. Turned out that the time in limbo was just what he needed, he had time to work on all manners of things. He ran his hands along a metalic sphere, imbedding it with magic. He smiled, his work was almost finished. Weeks of energy had been put into this sphere, he was very close to making the sphere into an artificial soul, something that could keep him company. There was a banging on his trap door that led down to his little hole in the ground, and a short yelp as his protective enchantments he had laid on and around it shocked the intruder, stopping its brain activity immediately. Opening the door, Halk smiled, this was the first live demon he had seen. He didn't step outside much, so he hadn't seen many of any living thing, monster or otherwise. It's horns would make beautiful summoning aids. He severed them from the demons skull with a short sword he had crafted from ore he had found, and left the body where it was.

He had been left alone for the most part of his time in the limbo, but enjoyed the solitude. Laying one of the last enchantments on the sphere, it glowed a bit, sensing a soul. It wasn't the demon, demons didn't have souls. At least as far as he knew. An abstract ornate arrow appeared on the sphere, pointing northwest-ish. He stared in amazement as the arrow twisted itself into the face of a woman, about his age, maybe a bit older. Elated, he grabbed a small knife imbedded with paralyzing runes (made and perfected by him), wrapped his arms in enchanted rabbit skin (also made by him, the enchantments blocked physical and magical attacks, they had taken up the majority of his time here) sheathed the knife in its respective place at his belt, tugged on his jacket, and set out. He came across a river, and following it in the specified direction, he came across a quaint wooden shack. He cocked his head, pocketing the sphere, and popped the collar on his jacket. This was definately another human being, nothing feral had this sence of design. He waved a bit, trying to get the attention of the soul in the shack. He assumed his sphere was right, none of his instruments he had ever made were wrong.

In a sudden moment in front of the stranger, a blue water Inari would make it appearance from the river. Its fur sleek from water while its tail provided excellent swimming ability. Quickly the creature darted in front of its master who was at the moment tending to the garden. "Raine what is the matter?" she asked him worriedly, her hands stroking the usually calm and gentle fox who was now yipping and whining. 'You must come, there is a stranger here!' In a sudden moment Faith would stand as she realized there was a stranger approaching the shack. It had been so long since Faith had seen another person...she didn't quite know what to say.

Raine on the other hand had other plans to deal with the stranger. She rushed him, wasting no time in enlarging to her full size and tackling him, pinning him to the ground, "Who are you! What is your reasoning to approaching this place!" Her eyes would suddenly grow wide as a particular scent alarmed her, causing her to step back quickly, 'A Charmer...' she fretted. Inari's were amazing creatures, but for many ages they had been affected by hunters who would sell their pelts to Charmers in order to make fire-proof coats from them. Charmers indeed had a history that Raine was growing to hate immediately.

Faith quickly approached, gathering up her shrinking Inari in her arms and stepping back, "Who are you? What exactly do you want?"

Halk stuggled under the Inari, yelping a bit in surprise. "Hey hey hey, I'm sorry!" He looked at the young woman, recognizing her as the one he saw in his sphere. "I... Uh... this was an experiment..." He was toung tied. He hadn't seen anybody in a long time, letalone someone with an Inari. "I uh, thank you, there is umm, a problem... Is this yours?" He said, glancing sideways at the Inari who had pinned him. He felt a glow from his sphere in his pocket, it was showing that there was no magic in the air at the moment other than its own. "I... Well, Hi." He still couldn't talk very well, the Inari had crushed his weak diaphragm.

Throwing up his arms in a 'fuck it' gesture, Halk sighed. "Can we start again? I like people, people are good. I don't usually see people." He stuck out his hand for the woman to shake. "I'm Halk. I like enchanting. I live over thataway in my little hole in the ground. I've come to say hello." Halk was shivering anxiously a bit, but he managed to jerk his thumb in the general direction from which he came.

She stared him for for several moments, the awkward moment between the two apparent in her gaze...before she started giggling as a result. Taking his hand into hers she smiled and said, "My name is Faith, it is a pleasure to meet you Halk." A squirt of water would hit the stranger, the Inari wasting no time in proving the point she didn't trust him. It would more than likely be a while before her worries were settled.

"Sorry about that, Raine can kind of be protective..." She looked down and sighed before asking him with a very grim and serious expression. "I need you too tell me the truth when I ask you this question, are you a part of the Necromancy Covenant calling themselves the Shadowthieves?"

These Shadowthieves were a part of a group of Necromancers terrorizing those who have arrived at the trial. The story of their existence is a pair of young men were fighting to the death over something they discovered in the world. In the end a man named Nikolai won the fight, but because of the fact he committed murder to achieve his possession, he was imprisoned withing the trial world. Over the course of time he had gathered more members from those trying to complete their trial, all of them who had murdered others forced to remain in the limbo forever. His final goal is to discover a way to escape the trial and his prison, seeking revenge on all who had wronged him.

Halk winced a bit, skittish of the Inari. "What?" He exclaimed, shaking his head, "No no, you lost me at necromancy. The dead need to stay that way, nasty stuff, black magic." He rummaged in his pockets, and his face lit up when he found a necklace he had enchanted. "Hey, uhh, here's something." he said, dropping it into her hand, "That chain, keeps the user breathing underwater. Very useful." He wrung his hands nervously. "The amulet improves the effects of healing spells when it's wet, I made it out of wood." He clicked his tounge. "I haven't been outside in a long time, you're the first person I've talked to since the initiation council decided to put me in limbo. I was working on something, it was supposed to talk to me, but it led me to you instead... Magic has a sence of humor..." Halk talked alot, he talked to himself when nobody was around, but it was nice to have a living person to converse with.

Faith smiled in relief, her Inari seeming to calm in the arms of her master. Upon the appearance of the necklace, Faith blinked in surprise reaching out her hand and accepting the gift. Raine herself was curious of its properties and carefully listened at Halk explained its potential. "Thank you...thank you so much, I've never had something give to me like this..." Quickly she hugged him, meaning for it to be a quick and immediate hug...but clinging to him after a sense of loneliness washed over her. It had been so long since she ever felt the warmth of another human being... it was hard for her to let go of him right away. "That's funny," she replied to his comment about his creation leading her there, "Maybe it is because it understood your desire to talk to someone..."

Halk was a bit shocked when Faith hugged him, but he accepted it awkwardly. "Don't worry about it, I make things like that all the time." He showed her the dagger he had enchanted. "Don't touch the blade, I did and I was stuck on the floor of my workshop for three hours!" He laughed a bit, sheathing the dagger. "Yea... Anyways, the last spell I put on it was an identifying spell mixed with a detect life one. It showed me a little outline of your face and then pointed me in your direction. It didn't sense your familiar though, I gotta fix that." He rubbed the back of his neck, looking around. The sphere wasn't making any new alerts or humming noises, so he assumed they were alone. Maybe not for too long though, he felt nervous for some reason... Although, that may have been because she had hugged him.

It had only been a few weeks since Wynette had arrived in the limbo world. She had done well so far, finding shelter in a small cave at the foot of a tall cliff. She was resourceful enough to find clean water to drink and a few berries and nuts to eat. She was content in her small space but had yet to venture out into this new world. It was frightening and intimidating to someone who knew so little magic but she had run out of food and needed to find more.

The sun was high in the sky meaning she didn't have a full day to explore, it had taken her a while to gather the courage to leave. Not wanting to be alone, she summoned her familiar, a baby unicorn with the power to heal. "Rixin. It is good to see you my friend." The unicorn foal rubbed itself against her outspread hand. "Welcome to this new world. Sorry it has been so long, I was fearful of over using my power. We must go find some food here. I am uncertain of the dangers here, will you guide and protect me so long as we remain here?" The unicorn reared back on it's hind legs, nodding in approval. Wynette knew that summoned creatures must be treated with reverence and honor which is why she asked for it's help instead of ordering it. "Good, now let us find what we need before the sun sets. We won't have much time."

Maegor, his sword in its sheath, was steadily walking West. He was looking for something to kill, as he very much enjoyed killing the demons he encountered. Bored, he started fingering the strings on his lyre, enjoying the relaxing sounds. He was so bored, but at least the music kept him company. He made fire appear in front of him as he walked, at least amused by the dancing light of the flames.

After a few hours of this, he saw a girl and a horse in the distance. "Hello!" He called, his voice booming.

Vytalas had made a temporary home in a cave for days now. He had just won a duel to claim resources and was eating some of the food he had obtained. It was the same as everything else he would win, fruit, but each time it was different "So... This time I have grapes... Yay..." He sighed with frustration as he finished eating the fruit and then standing up, talking to the spirits around him. Being knowledgeable with Necromancy he has become able to commune with the dead and spirits. Which was what he was doing now. After a while he sighed, waved his hand in the air as a green light emerged and one of his summons appeared, Mileena, a spirit with a brown, ragged cape with tons of vines coming out from the cape. "So Mileena. I am going to go searching for supplies then we shall come back, this Limbo place isn't very safe so I don't plan on staying out too long... Although... Maybe I could find a demon to speak with" Mileena let out a chuckle as she then walked with Vytalas out of the cave and into the forest, where he would begin foraging for supplies

Maegor, noticing another person in the distance, decided to go ahead and shoot a fireball into the sky, then made it explode in a shower of light. He liked making fireworks, but wished he had someone to talk to today. He wondered if the strangers were interesting, or if he would just kill them. He wasn't really sure at this moment, but hoped it would go well. At least it probably wouldn't be boring today. Then again, it always could be a boring murder.

Faith smiled at him, "You're very talented Halk, I'm so happy to see someone with such gifts!" she cheered happily before reaching forward and grasping his hand, "Come on, its been awhile since I've had company. Let me show you around my home!"

Raine herself watched the two go before a presence attracted her attention. Without word to her master, the Inari ran off ahead into the woods through the trees with rapid succession. Each one of the Inari's footsteps left the grass almost glowing for a moment as the creature was the embodiment of what life water gave to the world. Eventually the creature spotted what she sensed, the Necromancer.

Vytalas would hear a quiet growl behind him as the enlarged Inari finally made its appearance, walking out slowly baring its fangs. By the scent in the air she could tell he had not killed anyone...but that didn't mean he would never do so, 'Turn around...slowly..." she instructed, threatening to attack the man at any moment.

Maegor, seeing Raine threatening Vytalas, began sprinting in their direction, hoping to finally not be so bored. He surrounded himself in fire for protection, burning the grass as he went over it. He figured it would do no good to surprise them, so he wanted to announce his presence. "Hello!" He called to the two.

Vytalas looked up as he noticed the firework explode in the air. He made Mileena disappear into a ball of light beside him as he smiled. "I sense hostile magic in the area.. The spirits tell me... Be alert." Vytalas warned his familiar as he then heard a growling behind him and the instructions "Turn around slowly" yet, he did nothing, Mileena materialised and stood in front of the water kitsune, the vines by Mileenas feet began to move slowly. "Or maybe you could tell me who you are? I'm not a bad Necromancer you know...." He then turned to see another person running towards them "whom might you be?"

**Not Faith, Faith's Inari Raine

Maegor stopped twenty meters away from Vytalas. "I am Maegor." He answered. "And you are the first human I have seen here in months. I apologize if I seemed hostile, but I am so bored that it is a miracle to see another human being. Killing demons has gotten a bit trivial over this time. It is a pleasure to meet you." Maegor then turned to the Inari threatening Vytalas. "Who is your friend here, sir?" He extended his hand to pet Raine.

Halk was uneasy as the bubbly Faith led him around her garden, her house, her shack. He smiled crookedly, an action he hadn't done for awhile. "It's good to have company like you said," He shrugged, "I focus on my work too much, I stay underground or indoors. Not really something that requires alot of energy, but time alone is necessary, too much time alone is dangerous." He was so caught up in his lively conversation with Faith that he neclected to notice the fact that the sphere hanging from his belt now flashed in two more faces, both male, and an arrow wiggling it's way in both directions, indicating the presence of magic. "Gets lonely sometimes, I don't even have a familiar. That's why I tried to make an artificial soul..." Gazing at the sphere, he gasped in shock. "It's working! Oh, shit, this could be bad, but it's working!" he cracked his knuckles and looked around anxiously, a voice came from the sphere, crackling and faint. "I sense... Hello...slowly...bad you know... You be?"

Wynette had made her way to the top of the cliff that she had built her shelter beneath. She had discovered a grove of berry bushes, all different colors and shapes! She knew it was risky to eat food she couldn't identify but her fears were calmed once she realized Rixin could cure her sickness instantly. She had picked almost two baskets full when she decided to take a break. She rested in the shade of a particularly large bush that had small, bright red berries growing on it. Rixin had just drifted to sleep when she heard a call in the distance.

She was startled and frightened and confused and worried all at once. She had yet to encounter any other living creatures, even insects or small woodland critters like she expected to see. Slowly and gently she woke Rixin and whispered to him, "Be ready to run." She looked up to the man as he approached. He was enormous compared to her, and seemed intimidating. Her only hope of getting away from this man was to cast a sleeping spell, something she wasn't very good at. As she focused her thoughts he approached. Nervous that the spell could backfire she hesitated to cast it. She realized her best chance in this situation was to earn this man's trust and escape when he wasn't looking. "He-hello," her voice broke. "Who.... Who are you?"

Raine stared at Milenna, a sudden sense she got from the other familiar immediately told her that Vytalas was not at the moment an immediate threat...but almost immediately what she sensed from the one who approached was definitely something that caused her fur to rise. The Inari snapped its jaws at Maegor's hand, definitely not enjoying his presense, "You, get out NOW!"

Faith smiled happily, excited to see Halk was growing more and more comfortable around her. In a sudden realization, she looked down at her new friend's creation listening the the artificial familiar speak. It has never been recorded a familiar who was created from tools and magic, it would be very interesting of the time it would be to familiarize with it. A sudden alert from her own familiar alarmed Faith, "Raine..." Resulting in her running out to find her.

"Get out of what, exactly?" Maegor inquired. "This is still outside. And I remain curious of why you are threatening this person." Maegor sat on a stump with his sword on his knees and began rubbing it with a cloth. "A bit rude to a new person, do you not think, familiar?"

Halk tucked the sphere back into his pouch he had in his belt and plodded along behind faith. He didn't like running, it made him nervous, but he didn't want to loose contact with one of the only friendly people he'd met in limbo. They found Raine facing down a burly man with a palidan style sword and sheild, and another that bore the unmistakable air of a necromancer. Halk shrunk back a bit seeing the burly guy introduce himself as Maegor. The sphere was still mimicking their speach garbledly, so he flicked it a couple of times and it stopped. He waited to see what Faith would do, hanging back a bit to avoid conflict.

Vytalas smiled as he made Mileena stand down, then to his surprise he saw the girls familiar snap it's jaws at their "guest" Vytalas laughed "The company of humans? In a world like this? Ipersonally enjoy the company of the spirits and demons in this realm. Some of them have even offered to become my summons, they are extremely kind" Mileena chuckled in response and then stands next to Vytalas as if to guard him.

Maegor shrugged. "Well, many demons in this realm and I have had some...strange...encounters. A bit of testing whose flames are hotter, so to speak." Maegor held his hand out, palm up, and a figure of a small demon made of flames appeared, then another human-shaped fire erupted in his hands. The two began a duel, all in Maegor's hand. "I'm a bit talented with fire, and some take that as a challenge, strangely. But, that's not here. It's only there. Anywho, may I ask your name, sir?"

'Well it just happens I'm rather talented with water," the Inari growled before Faith approached it, petting her gently in an effort to calm her.

"I do not really appretiate you threatening to hurt my friend, " Faith stated angrily even if she came here and threatened you, there is something about you she didn't like...and something tells me I won't like it either." Faith drew out a dagger, wasting no time in proving that even though she was a healer, she wasn't about to let a strange person walk over her or her friends, "What is your goal here, who are you and why have you come here?" She looked around at all the other strangers that appeared, "In fact, who are you all, I don't recognize any of you."
