“Three may keep a secret..."
“Three may keep a secret...”
Almost everyone has done something they regret. Regret may have come immediately after, instantaneously striking you with that overwhelming feeling of guilt. Though it may be delayed. The realization may take time to settle. It grows steadily like a seed that was planted and watered. Regret may not even show it's ugly head until the aftermath of it all. When the consequences are too great to handle and it seems better to have never taken action in the first place.
For a few, regret never comes.
---It was hot, the summer heat at it's highest all season. The lack of rain made the weather uncomfortably dry. A single bus drove down an only desolate road in the middle of the rural parts of the North Jelloa Province in South Korea. It wasn't meant to take this route, but construction and a detour brought the bus driver on a confusing twist through back roads instead of the main highway. They were obvious lost, since the bus ride had already been almost an hour over the original 4 and a half hour trip. It probably didn't help that it was night and there wasn't a single light and little to no visible signs.
Rain clouds had ominously been looming overhead for the majority of the day. It seemed a storm was brewing in more than one way. The bus, running from Seoul to Gwangju, was supposed to arrive at 10pm. It was now 11:47pm and they were no closer to reaching their detestation than they were an hour ago. The bus was practically empty. Only 6 passengers remained. Grumbling to themselves about the time, sleeping, or just staring out the window as quiet rain began to patter against the window to pass the time. They were very unaware that they wouldn't make it to the city anytime soon.
Was it a sick twist of fate that brought these souls together? Even if none of them knew, they all held one thing in common. They all were running. Running from the same monster. Each with a deadly secret to keep. Each being hunted by an evil much greater than just one man. They say you don't mess with the Jopok, or the Korean Mafia, and survive. This unlucky crew seemed to have done just that. They may have poked the bear on accident, or completely on purpose, but they now have a target on their backs.
As the bus came to a slow and eventually stopped on the side of the road, they now became sitting targets. After a check under the hood, it was clear that the bus wasn't moving another inch, let alone the miles they still needed to go in order to get to Gwangju. They were stranded. Without phone service, no one really knew what to do. But just one lucky thing happened. A road sign indicating a town just one mile away. Maybe they had a phone they could use, or a repair man. If anything they probably at least had one place to stay for the night instead of sleeping in the bus.
It had only been sprinkling when they all got out of the bus. About half way to the town, the soft patter of rain had spend up to an almost downpour. Arriving to the so called "town" was just as much as a let down. It wasn't more than a tiny farming village surrounded mostly by rice fields and hills.ad worse? The only place they had to stay was a very very old inn with only one of the suits. Thankfully with two bedrooms, but 7 people in one space? It was just one night. They could do one night.
Well, it wouldn't be just one night. With the only repair man in the nearby radius out of town to help with a family member for the next three weeks, it looked like they were in for the long haul. And it wasn't like they wanted to call in a taxi and be able to be tracked. Maybe being in the middle of nowhere wasn't so bad when you're supposed to be in hiding. Or maybe it was worse than anyone of them could have pictured. Let's just cross our fingers and hope that no one catches up to our hopelessly stranded strangers. Better get cosy. It was going to be a very very long 20 days.
the enemy--The Lee family has ran one of the leading gangs within the Korean underground since the early 1970s. Being involved with drugs, human trafficking, weapon dealing, extortion, and more, they are a force to be reckoned with. The current leader is Lee Owen who took over when his father retired and moved to Singapore.
Their operation is linked to other large gangs in the United States, China, Japan, and Hong Kong. Based out of Incheon, they have many branches within other cites like Busan and Mokpo. More than just Kkangpae, or common street thugs, they are highly organized. A well oiled machine, the Lee clan is notorious. It's leaders are all wanted by the government. It helps, though, that they have their fingers playing puppeteer there too. They are bad news for anyone who crosses them or ends up on their bad side. You're basically a dead man walking if you try.
the village--The people in this very small village are quiet, mostly distrusting of strangers since not many come around. Their main occupation is farming. Located in the south west part of North Jelloa Province, it's fairly close to mountains and temples. There isn't much there. There is a single "Inn" as it's called by it's owners. It's mostly just a small apartment off of this older couple's home. With three bedrooms, a common area, and a kitchen, it's definitely a tight squeeze for 9 people. Thankfully they told the bus driver he could sleep on their couch.
The floors are creaky, the roof leaks when it rains, and the furniture is probably from the 60s. But it's only 3 weeks. Three very long and boring weeks. Other than homes, there is basically nothing but wilderness around. Feel free to go on walks in the hills, the scenery is beautiful. That is really the only perk of being here.

Blood Guilty

He is honestly a good person. Someone who has never done anything wrong in his life. He's got it good, everything together with his dreams mapped out and within reach. But then it fell apart. Being with the wrong person as the wrong time brought on a fight that he wasn't prepared for. It all happened so fast, but by the time it was over, there was blood on his hands. It was an accident, truly, he never meant to kill the other person. Even worse, the person who died? Was the child of a mafia boss. He couldn't tell anyone, he had to get out, to escape. Otherwise they'd kill him. And going to the police? They'd throw him in prison. He wouldn't last one day in there. His perfect life? Gone in the blink of an eye.
"He can't find me. I won't let it happen. This is my only chance."

She's grown up all her life knowing that her family was on the wrong side of the law. Though her father never explicitly told her when she was younger, he never tried to hide it either. As she grew, he began to groom her and her two siblings to follow in his foot steps. He'd need someone to take over the family business, but this wasn't the life that she wanted. It was cruel, harsh, and unjust. Not to mention incredibly dangerous. Once she heard of the death of her brother, she knew that her father would pressure her even further to be the one to step up, since she was more capable than their other sibling. That shock was enough to tell her to get out. She knows that her father will do anything to get her back. He's probably even ordered that she'd be returned alive. But she's even more certain he never even mentioned without harm.

He knew this was a terribly good idea when he started on it. Somehow the boss got his hands on a very important database. One the man in charge wanted to use. For some reason, he wanted to have it for himself. It wasn't his to take, but be it for money, power, or justice, he needed it. So, with sticky fingers and a bit of luck, he was able to get his hands on the information. It was his. A single usb drive with billion dollar information. Maybe he's sure what he's going to do with it, or maybe he's not. Whatever the case, the boss knew he was the only person who could have pulled this whole thing off. He knows it's just a matter of time before they try to catch up to him. His goal is to keep that from happening.

She was good, and she knew it. The numbers all in her favor, an expert at counting cards. She had worked her way up for a long time in small casinos to start with now up to high risk games. With a seat costing a million dollars, she was set to win more money than she had ever before. Playing with those in organized crime was not only dangerous but also illegal. To cheat in that game proved she had a death wish. She won the first time, unsurprisingly, and then again, and again the third round. Well, if she had just taken her money and ran, things would have been fine. That last game proved her a cheater, one that cheated an underground crime ring out of millions of dollars. And oh ho was the Boss mad. She somehow made it out alive, but how much longer can she keep her life?
"Hey come on. It was a business deal. I didn't realize that it was your toes I stepped on."

Ok, so it was probably a bad idea. But it was going to score him so much cash. Someone just sitting on that many grams of the good stuff was just begging to be looked into. It could really take his rinky-dink drug dealer gig to the next level. They had enough money, couldn't they share? They could be idiots keeping that stash and would have never pick up on the fake bills. A bit of persuasion got him the deal, and knowing a friend of a friend who could counterfeit money made the plan perfect. He almost got away with it too. But he didn't. They found out the cash he was attempting to buy millions of dollars worth of hard drugs with was fake. You guessed it, they were mad. He didn't know how he escaped their first attack on his house. Good intuition I guess. But he definitely can't go back now. It was before he could even make his first sale too. Bummer...

Guilty By Association

Curse her terrible habit of running late. Curse the fact the bus came a few minutes early. Could she have worse luck? All she wanted to do was travel in a fast and cheap way to visit her grandmother, was that too hard to ask? But no. She had to miss her first bus, and now this one breaks down? She's trapped with five strangers in the middle of nowhere. This is a nightmare to her. And she only knows half the story. When bullets start flying she'll start wondering who the heck these people really are. Sorry grandma, she'll be very late to dinner
"I know all his dirty little secrets. I won't tell I just want out."
The Mistress

All she wants is a fresh start. She was well aware that he was married and his line of work wasn't exactly legal, yet she didn't let it dissuade her from perusing a relationship with the crime boss. She was young, dumb, and willing to take the risk. It seemed exciting, and he was rich and showered her with gifts. As time went on, she learned things. She was almost like a personal therapist for his problems. Secret after secret was locked inside her mind, further binding her to him. Though love began to fade and he became more and more controlling. His brutal and cruel nature wasn't kept out of their relationship for long, turning very unhealthy rather fast. She wanted to end it and move on with her life. The problem? The information she held. He couldn't let her go and spill everything he ever told her, despite her telling him over and over that she would never. So when she escaped, there was instantly a bounty on her head. At this point, he just wants his secrets die with her. Sooner rather than later.
"I thought I was done with all of this. Just my luck I guess."

A life of crime is something he is very familiar with. Because he was deep in it a few years back. Being young when he was inducted as part of one of the largest gangs in South Korea, it seemed like a good idea at the time. Crime was all he knew, it only seemed right that he continued down the path he started on. He slowly built his way up. Then all at once it fell apart. He was caught when a deal went sideways. They left him behind. When he was questioned, it seemed like the only way to save himself was to cut a deal. And it didn't feel too bad since they left him in the dust. Betraying the trust of a gang is a bad idea, yet he gained governmental protection. They ended up taking down an even bigger operation and arresting an even higher man in the chain. That put him permanently on the bad side of some of the most powerful people in the underground. He knows that if he ever comes in contact with anyone associated with the gang, he's dead on sight. But he's just helping his uncle and aunt with their inn and farm in a completely different part of the country, how are they going to find him now?
