[The Black Watch] OOC Thread GO!

Second, and now, let us start with an actual conversation!

What is everyone planning on playing and their general histories. >_> I don't want too much overlap in function and our tragic tales of future woe.

I'm planning on going Otaku, and currently trying to figure out how wtf I can take her appearance.

You're going to wake up one morning to find out the Crane has bleached your hair white, just to make it not so weird.

I'm going with a Kitsuki Investigator with a penchant for Finding The Truth (and telling everyone), a touch of arrogance, a preference for fighting her own duels, and a tragically doomed love affair with a married Samurai that hasn't actually gone anywhere because it would be wrong and she'd have to lie.

Upon which note: Oh wise and glorious Master of Games, may I have a katana at chargen? Backgroundwise all samurai have one but some don't carry it, and Da Rules say Kitsuki don't have theirs in the starting kit package, but I'd kinda like to have her with it. It may be reasonable to remove the knife from the equipment to make up for that.

And yes, I'm aware that this may result in me dying horribly in a duel- I just think it's more the character's style to face up to it herself, and I've given her enough swordy skill to make her quite good at it. She's not the most courtly of Courtiers, 'cause I've gone for more Investigation and Sincerity than Courtier and Etiquette...

Also, I need to pick a married samurai for her to be tragically in love with- got 'im down as an Influence 1 ally, but I need to pick a Clan... Currently thinking a Lion Bushi (she impresses him with her devotion to honour as she sees it, though it isn't quite the Lion interpretation (and possibly her swordy skills...), he impresses her with a more fiery nature than other people she's met). Any suggestions on this front would be wonderful...

Haven't written up the background yet, but she's probably going to get picked for the Magistrates after she gets wind of something going on and refuses to give up on it , eventually proving that [!PERSON] was up to something Bad.

Wtf, I do in fact find this rather odd that you do not start with a katana...if no other players have a protest against it, I'd personally do a blanket 'Daisho if you want it' rule across the board.

I've been bouncing a lot of character ideas around in my head - from Kakita duellist to Shiba ishiken - but I think I've ultimately settled on an Asahina who joined the Daidoji Iron Warriors. He fucks shit up gracefully. With a naginata.

It was one of those character concepts that blindside you while you're thinking about something else entirely.

So two Bushi, an investigator, and a Shugenja. Should be a good group. i posted most of my backstory up so far but the summery is a Kuni who has faced a maho cult and found fellow Kuni part of it. I'm having him use a Kusarigama as a weapon mainly cause I'm just digging the mental image of it. Grabbing a mixed bag of spells. Made sure I grabbed Jade Strike, Biting Steel, and a healing spell.

Well I am going to be a lion, and a female, and I am going to have a husband. That is of course if you want to have an interesting relationship between us.

And all samurai carry wakizashi to show the status of a samurai, not the katana

Last question, with 3 ranks in war fans, reducing the off-hand penalties, does that include the 5 to the main-hand?

... That's really quite tempting.

True. But all samurai own a katana; it's just many don't carry it, because it signifies sufficient training to duel yourself, rather than having a champion fight for you. Tamoha's got the training (she's a particularly martial Kitsuki, and Kitsuki are particularly martial courtiers) and the attitude...

Daidoji yojimbo incoming as well. Hey' date=' look, we have 7 samurai...<.<[/quote']
Will someone make a movie inspired by our exploits about future samurai-ish characters trying to free the universe from a tyrannical dictator?

Perhaps, or perhaps a movie about a bunch of peasants hiring 7 starving samurai to fight off bandits. Original > Anime version

Well, here's where I'm coming from.

My character idea is a Daidoji Yojimbo who is pretty much like Sosuke Sagara: he's a one-man-army onto himself, but he's more about duty and training and all that usual stuff. But then he meets a girl who basically turns his world upside-down, it turns into a whirlwind romance, and then she ends up getting nailed by a maho.

I was considering playing a Daidoji who'd been trained by the Iron Crane, but if you want to go with that i can go back to my original concept of the Phoenix ishiken. Which brings us even closer to a full clan roster, I think :P

Up to you. While I am not specifically enforcing a '1 of each clan' rule, I do think it'd be fun.

As an aside am I reading the rules wrong or can I actually start with rank 2 earth spells? It's my affinity.

It's cool. My other option is to go into the Scorpion, and I'm not feeling that devious today :P

No, the actual spells you can learn are based by your hard insight cap. You just an an extra die with affinity spells, and, if any spell abilities are rank-dependent, you count as one higher. For actually learning them though, I'm reading it as the insight rank, not the affinity rank

I believe one (me), and fairly non-standard; I'm going Kitsuki, but she's more investigator (and duellist) than standard courtier.

(With the schools we're looking at, potentially the group's best duellist- depends how skill ranks go...)

ok, so we have a shugenja and a sort-of courtier..

The reason i hate l5r is every time I go to the book I get a torrent of different ideas. and I've never tried courtier before.... that could be fun...
