Realpolitik is fun. Either she deals and the Empire wins or the war keeps going and the Empire steps up its war economy and things get worse for everyone around them.

Not really how it works. She isn't in charge of anything, she pulls out and Astagorn refuses to deal with the Empire. The Empire can then start as the aggressor, killing any sympathy they have and likely getting other nations against them.

You are acting like her demand is super crazy. Its the same demands the USA put forth after WW1. Which were ignored [save for the second demand, the League of Nations, but ignoring the first part utterly undercuts the purpose of it so the USA did not join] and the war still ended. Just in favor of the Allies whom had rejected the US's ideas. Then WW2 happened in part due to those very same demands made by the Allies that the US said shouldn't be made.

This is Realpolitik.

You're assuming the others won't continue the war and it would just be the Empire. Gier knows he can restart the conflict and get it blamed on someone else as long as his demand are semi-reasonable.

And a lot of it can go up in smoke in his face. For someone that is supposed to be so calculating, seems silly and poorly thought out, but, it is in his nature to refuse to give anything back.

He knows that he can make a good enough case to keep it that trying to make him give it up will do more damage than good.

Not what I was saying. Saying the idea that, 'Ha, if they don't agree, I just restart the war and find someone else to... pin it on and hope no one suspects the obviously powerhungry mustache twirling evil empire in the corner and it will still work out!'...

She isn't going to force anyone to give up the land they took. It needs to be a decision they all make or the organization will not work.

I didn't say that, just that if it does restart you won't be able to blame him.

Oh, most certainly could. If most of the nations agreed to return land and were all for the organization and greed was, "Oh, yeah, no, I'm giving nothing back, y'all can go to hell. Make me and I'll fight you," they can be blamed.

They won't want to do it either I don't think. The Sins anyway. Envy might do it just for spite

Lust seems down with it. Temperance seems like someone that could be convinced. Astagorn, is, obviously, willing. Pride doesn't care about money or land, only Lust, Envy doesn't care one way or the other and is just as likely to spite the guy who really cares about the stuff he has and joining the group then spiting the group, Wrath would be getting his stuff back, so, obviously, would be all for it.

Best way, I see, for Greed to restart the war would be to use Wrath and Pride's jealousy over Lust, but as for Asha's suggestion, it has strong roots to make a case for it.

I thought that was obvious so I didn't mention it.

Then, if he wanted to be the super intelligent efficient guy, pretending that he is okay with it if push comes to shove, or drawing out negotiations, and then do this instead of attempting to draw a line in the sand which would only paint himself as more of a villain like you'd been suggesting would be the wise course of action.

He's kind of doing this right now to troll Charity.

And we still don't even know which country is where!
