Every year the Capitol of Panem hosts an event called the Hunger Games where two "tributes" – a boy and a girl – are drafted from each of the twelve districts to be brought to an arena and fight to the death. Only one person can win. This is to remind the country not to rebel – and for entertainment, of course.


Its the year of 2117, when the 45th Annual Hunger Games will be taking place. The Tributes are about to be thrown into the Arena, a desolate rain forest filled with nothing but wildlife.

Tracy was scared out of her mind, and couldn't stop thinking about how she was going to be the first to die. It was quite obvious. She was the smal girl that didn't know how to put up a fight, therefore making her an easy target. Hopefully, her skill of hiding and setting traps would be to her advantage.


As Tracy stood on the plate by the Cornucopia, her gaze kept skirting around to the other players.


She wasn't concerned about getting the weapons from there, but the food was a must. A little survival gear wouldn't hurt, though. It would be a long time for the Games to end, and Tracy would have to be able to hold out for as long as possible. If she made it out of the bloodbath alive.
 
Taylor kept chanting one sentence in her head over and over again. Run into the forest, find water. Was all she could think to do first to ensure her survival for the first day. She knew not to stay at the cornucopia and had a plan. She also needed to make at least one ally, maybe more if possible but a group could be risky. She looked at every detail of her surroundings, looking for which way she might find the nearest water. She may look for a water source farther away though. Her heart was pounding out of her chest as she became so nervous that she was trembling with anticipation.


She learned how to make some make-shift weapons out of natural resources and could hunt, but the other tributes were what scared her the most. She also thought of where she could sleep in and at. A tree, maybe a hole that I could make in the ground... maybe a cave? She thought a tree would be best, but wasn't sure if she could stay on a branch while sleeping, she'd have to find some vines to tie herself down, find some herbs for healing and eating, making notes of the dangerous ones. She was ready to run for her life and find some way to camouflage herself. Allies could be made once she was settled in. Maybe she could watch a few tributes from a distance and determine which would be the best and most trustworthy. She'd just have to be quiet and stealthy to follow a tribute that is high on alert. Maybe someone would find her to be an ally with instead.
 
Galvo stood in the center of the Game Maker station. As the Head Game Maker, it was his job to create the most difficult challenges for the tributes to face, such as forest fires and cold winters. Those were a few ideas, but Galvo had many more. He nodded at the other game makers and they turned on his microphone.


"Tributes, welcome to the 45th annual Hunger Games. I am Galvo Kindadred, this and hopefully later year's Head Game Maker. As you know you have all been selected from each district, however only one can win. Remember that if you have sponsors, they can send you helpful items, so I hope you got some people to like you!" Galvo said. "I hope you are ready, because we will be starting soon."
 
Tribute... More like memorial. Her heart felt as though it had stopped. The sweat on her forehead was thick. Her palms were clammy. Her mind was frozen. She couldn't speak. She couldn't breath. She watched ahead of her. The false winds were cold. The sky was a gloomy grey. She didn't bother to look at the other tributes. She didn't know what to think, really.


Delilah Maxwell. 17. District 5... This is what I'll be known for... Not my less-than-perfect grades. I am not a girlfriend, daughter, sister, niece. This is what I am and always will be. She thought to herself. District 5...
 
Elliot was standing on the plate, his pale blonde hair being cast elegantly astray with the soft wind, and his bright amethyst eyes currently locked on the Cornucopia. He figured he was fast and quick enough on his feet, and so he assumed he could possibly get a weapon and survival pack before getting caught up in the bloodbath - but he knew it'd be too risky to truly attempt such a thing. He wasn't aware of all the skills these other tributes had under their own sleeves. He knew he had to choose either one or the other - but perhaps, just perhaps, he could grab a weapon and snag a pack while he darted away as fast as he could.


From where he was standing, he could spot a couple bows and many various blades shimmering in the sunlight. He decided to try and go for a bow to begin with, being that he'd have to hunt for food before even attempting to kill another being, and it was easier to sneak up on an animal with the range of a bow & arrow rather than chase it down with a sword. So, he began organizing his thoughts.


You're fast enough to get some sort of weapon or pack... Just grab what's closest to you and run... Run far, far off and find some source of water... Stay concealed within the brush, hunt for food once everything's settled down after the bloodbath... You'll be alright, you'll be alright... He contemplated, and couldn't get the image of his angelic little sister's face out of his mind. He promised her that he wouldn't die - and he was determined not to. At least not in the opening bloodbath.


He softly gnawed on his bottom lip as he awaited the countdown. He had a plan, and he was going to accomplish it no matter what. As his mauve eyes flickered around to the other tributes, seeing as some of them appeared like mere children, he couldn't even fathom killing them - he just couldn't kill a soul. The only life he could put an end to was an animals because he had to do so in order to survive. Never did he think that he'd have to do the same with humans in order to stay alive, too... Oh, how he despised these games.
 
Galvo walked back up to his microphone and began to speak. This time he was more serious, as innocent children were going to die minutes after he said what was about to be said. He never really liked the idea of the Hunger Games, but being Head Game Maker paid SO much, and that was why Galvo stuck with it.


"Tributes, I am sad to say that you will have to risk your life to compete against each other. Every district, and every person in all of the districts including the Capital, wish you the best of luck. And good luck from me, The Head Game Maker. Do not try to escape, there is no possible way you can. Let the games begin!" he said excitedly. Then a crisp but deep voice came on, broadcasting throughout the arena.


"60...59...58...57...56...55...54...53..."
 
As the countdown blared through the speakers, Taylor tensed up slightly as she looked to some of the tributes. She saw that a few aimed for where the bloodbath would take place and shivered. Most of them will be dead in a few seconds. she thought sadly. If she could help it, she wouldn't have to kill anyone until the very end where there was no turning back from it. She saw a few tributes who caught her eye, all who looked strong and agile. She hoped to meet up with one that wouldn't kill her on sight as she breathed heavily as the numbers neared the last ten seconds. She got ready to run as she heard the numbers decrease too soon.
 
Eric stood tall on his plate, eyeing the other tributes contemptuously. He remembered most of them from training. He remembered their individual skill levels as well; he had kept almost constant stock of them all, making sure to figure out which ones would be a true challenge for him and which ones would be glorified cannon fodder. His father had told him not to underestimate them, saying that Eric's confidence would be the death of him, but it was hard to imagine some of the younger ones posing a threat to him in the slightest.


Take the girl on the plate to his left, for example. A small, flighty looking child, from district 9. She looked so nervous, frightened of what was to come. She had probably been reaped unexpectedly, and no one bigger or better had been brave enough to volunteer in her place. Eric actually scoffed at that. He had been training his whole life, just itching for the chance to show everyone what he was made of. So why would he be worried about the people from the lesser districts that were probably wishing vehemently that they were anywhere but here?


He planned to head straight for the Cornucopia, of course. The spoils in the centre of the circle were too good to pass up, and he knew that he would be able to handle the other fools that would be rushing forward to compete with him. His only fear was that a group 3 or 4 tributes ganged up on him. But truly, what were the odds of that? More than likely the other Careers would try to negotiate with him, realizing that he'd be a worthy ally, and the other tributes were most likely not going to magically team up instantaneously.


The Head Game Maker said a few words, and then a voice began counting, heading backwards from 60 to 0. Eric grinned, and positioned himself in a runners stance, just waiting for the whole affair to begin.


'This really ought to be fun,', Eric thought, as the deep, gravelly voice reached "50".
 
Serenity could feel her heart rise up into her throat as she heard the deep, booming voice sounding around the arena, commencing the countdown. She had on a large, black jacket, and her hood over her head. The sunlight was her worst enemy, more deadly to her than most of these tributes would be, so she knew she had to keep covered. Those around her probably couldn't tell whether she was a boy or a girl, being that all of her qualities were veiled. All you could verify from a glance at her is that she's very short and very petite, but if you got up close and personal with her - especially if she had her knives - you'd realize she's anything but fragile. Serenity has always had an edge to her that proved her to be quite rebellious back at home, but here it was probably the one thing that may just keep her alive. Her long, pale white hair was braided and pulled back, so it was also concealed. The only thing you could see was her appealing face and her pale, nearly color-less eyes. She slid her bottom lip underneath her teeth as she contemplated her strategy. She's always been very good with tactical thinking, but somehow her thoughts were sent astray by this unfamiliar environment. She's never been in anything close to a forest, having been living in the electronics district. But, she did know what she had to do to survive - get supplies and find some place to settle that's close to a water source. She was quite speedy, and there was a survival pack not to far from her that had a bag of throwing knives near it. Somehow, Serenity knew that the game masters organized things this way to lure them in - but regardless of her want to do the exact opposite of what they have planned, she knew she had to try and go for them in order to survive.


Elliot let out a vexed breath as he heard the countdown begin. He looked around at all the shocked children who were probably reaped by surprise - and were probably going to be the first to die. He just looked away from them, pursing his lips together and forming a thin, stressed line with them. He just turned his attention to the bow and arrow and survival pack along the pathway he was going to run out and into the forest from. He kept his amethyst eyes locked on it, determined not to die as he paid the other tributes no mind. He couldn't allow himself to get intimidated - he had to remain calm and focused.
 
Orion stood on the plate,his legs were already contracting for when he would take off toward his first weapon and pack then he was gone.He growled lowly and wondered which one of these meat puppets would be the first to go.He stared over at a small girl who seemed rather scared.He thought for a second and sighed,an alliance was best and as far as he was concerned his best course of action.


He thought about him and his brothers discussion before he came here.


He sat in the hall before he left and was going through his final interviews.His younger brother by 15 minutes came in,his eyes were red and he could tell he had been drinking from dads stash."Orion are you seriously gonna do this....I can probably step in for.."He was cut off by Orion who chuckled."Bro your not doing anything but staying here,watching mom and the girls,and getting a good job."He said and his brother nodded and handed him a silver pendant,a gift from dad which his brother never took off."Please stay safe...."


Orion held the pendant which had their families last name on it and he sighed as he heard the game master begin to count down."I'll stay safe bro..and im coming home a winner."He said and got ready to run.
 
"10...9... 8...7...6...5...4...3...2...1. LET THE GAMES BEGIN!" the voice said. Immediately Tributes began running to the cornucopia, forest, or started killing each other. Galvo smiled at the ones who were being smart and running off into the forest. However there were a few Tributes who didn't move((All of you)). That was strange. They were probably just scanning.


"Sir, should we change the environment?" a Game Maker asked.


"No, not yet. Let's see how it plays out." Galvo responded and then gazed at the computers. The Tributes were fighting alright.
 
As soon as Serenity heard the countdown finish, she bolted for the survival pack and bag of throwing knives. She could see some tributes behind her, and a couple who managed to run faster than her and past her. Her face tightened with determination as she threw the pack over her shoulder and took a couple blades out of the bag. One of the smaller tributes seemed scared out of his witts, and out of fear, threw a sword towards her. She dodged it and sent a dagger towards him, it hitting him right in his chest, puncturing his heart. She couldn't believe what just happened as soon as she came to realization - she just flipped on survival mode out of nowhere. Despite the grief, she had to remain that mode as another tribute came towards her. This time, her blade landed right between his eyes - instant kill.


Elliot heard the countdown finish, and as soon as they were given the get-go, he took off running. He darted as fast as he could towards his goal, passing Serenity slightly as he did so. She was fast, but he tried his best to avert his attention elsewhere. He had to focus on getting his weapon and supplies, then seek shelter. And, with swift speed, he grabbed a bow & the container of arrows, and as he began running towards the forest, he picked up a survival pack and slung that over his other shoulder. He disappeared into the brush, refusing to look back at all the carnage. He couldn't bare the sight of seeing all those defenseless children killed. It was just too horrid for him - one of them reminded him of his little sister... And, as he recalled, she got a sword to her skull. He just shook the thought out of his head, continuing to run until he could no longer hear the screams.
 
Taylor darted into the forest, hearing soft yells and running from behind her. She thought that she heard someone enter the forest not too far behind her, but kept running. It took her quite a while, but she finally found a small and secluded pond. She knew that it probably wasn't safe to drink so she thought of ways to filter it as she hid herself in a small crevice as she waited out for anyone that could be near to move past her location. She moved to the very back where it would be too dark for anyone on the outside to see her. She needed to rest or she wouldn't get anything done.
 
Eric heard the countdown finish, and uncharacteristically froze a second or two, faltering. He cursed himself when saw a large number of tributes bolt ahead of him. By the time he shook the odd wave of doubt from his mind, tributes were already grabbing packs or arming themselves to fight at the cornucopia. Which meant he would be at a disadvantage. Eric finally shot forward, and ran 50 feet to the weapon nearest to him: a large, weighty hammer, like the ones they used at the quarry in district 2.


From there he paused once again and scanned the area, looking for immediate threats. Truthfully, most of the other tributes were already out of the starting area and into the dense forest surrounding it, but a handful of the bravest or stupidest were armed and fighting over the better loot. Three or four were practically inside the cornucopia, at least 30 feet away from him, so they were no danger as of now. The boy sprinting towards him from the left with what looked to be a meat cleaver was a different story, however.


The other kid swung downward, putting all his weight into a slash aimed for Eric's head. Which was really stupid. Eric turned to face him and then back stepped out of the kid's range. The kid was startled, and let the momentum of his swing carry him, his head bent towards the ground. That was also a really stupid mistake, and again Eric capitalized. The hammer connected with the back of the boy's skull with a wet thump, and Eric felt the bone give way as the kid collapsed to the ground. Dead, or decommissioned. Eric grinned at his work, numb to any true emotion. Survival of the fittest was the law of the land now.


From there, he started sprinting towards another tribute, ready to take this one down just like the last -- but someone beat him to it. A dagger impaled his target directly between the eyes, catching Eric off guard. The person who had thrown the knife now turned to face him. The cloaked figure was already arming themselves with another projectile. The district 2 tribute turned to face his assailant, the blood draining from his face slightly.


"'Well... Crap."
 
Serenity could see for who seemed to be the biggest and most intimidating tribute coming towards her - she believed his name was Eric, from District Two - and for a moment they shared for what could pass for a stare down. Despite how she was practically half his size, she was determined to not get killed. Therefore, she readied her knives, preparing to throw one straight in the center of his head like she did to her last victim. She honestly despised killing, but in this arena, it was the only way to survive. So she threw one, but he managed to dodge it just before she landed a hit. Being that she wasn't all that content with missing, she grew angry, but she figured he was just prepared for such combat.


Just as she was reaching for another blade, he grabbed a hold of her wrist and attempted to restrain her, taking a swing at her with his brute hammer. She gritted her teeth and stepped aside, dodging for what could have been a fatal blow, and began squirming her petite wrist around in his large hands. "Let me go!" she hissed, and despite her apparent combat skill, her voice sounded tiny and innocent although she tried to make it as intimidating as she could manage. Just then his weight seemed to shift, and they both lost their footing, going into a fit of tackles and squabbles. She let out a frustrated groan, but clearly he overpowered her with his weight and over-all size.


Her hood fell off of her, revealing her pale white hair and nearly colorless eyes. At first she felt a ping of terror, not by Eric, but by facing the sunlight - thankfully, his large shadow was cast over her and it didn't reach her. She stared at the man who just may be the one to take her life, but suddenly she noticed another figure coming up behind them. "Move!" she shrieked, pushing him with all her might and managing to toss him aside enough to throw a knife at one of the career tributes about to send them both to their doom with a large spear, massive enough to pierce through both of their bodies at once. She managed to get one of her blades at him, it piercing right into the center of his chest. The spear sunk into the ground right beside Serenity's and Eric's head. She shot him a glare with her beautiful, yet mysterious eyes. "Get off me!" she hissed in her chaste voice, finally managing to squirm out of his grip.


She crawled out from underneath him, his shadow still covering her, thankfully. Her albinism was her biggest weakness. Her skin and hair were whiter than snow, and her non-pigmented eyes stared him down. Her face was angelically structured, and if you didn't see first-hand what she could do, you'd probably mistake her for some delicate daisy. Her braid came undone from their wrestling, and now her incredibly extensive silken hair draped all around her like a satin veil. She tucked it back into her cloak, throwing her hood back over her head, concealing herself once more.

Tracy's breath caught when she heard the Gamemaker's voice. She started to wonder what wrong she had done in her life. This all had to simply be a nightmare, it just had to be. This couldn't be real. She had only been a girl who harvested the grain in District 9, not to be the spectacle of Panem. As the seconds began to run out, Tracy braced herself. She was going to run towards a backpack filled with some survival gear, and maybe grab the spear nearby.


When the horn sounded, she jumped off of the plate and sprinted to the Cornucopia. Diving under some of the bigger Tributes, she grabbed the pack and went for the spear. Whenever she thought one of the Tributes was coming at her, she would trip someone else for them to be targeted instead of her. It was a cowardly move, but there was no other way for her to survive this bloodbath.


A few huge crates sat in the back of the Cornucopia. Tracy realized that most of the Tributes were still in the front. They wouldn't bother with coming towards the back, since everyone was trying to get out. She quickly grabbed the spear that she had been eying and ducked behind one of the crates. When Tracy thought that no one was looking, she lifted the lid and jumped inside. Inside the crate, she was surrounded by food.


This is perfect, she thought. No one would think to come back here after the bloodbath. They would all be in the forest, doing who-knows-what. With this method, Tracy would actually have a chance of winning. A little spark of hope bloomed inside of her. Maybe she would actually be able to go home.
 
Elliot continued to run and run until he couldn't run anymore, and then slowed down between a fast-paced walk and jogging. He could feel his lungs failing him, his breathing heavy and uneven. But, he still managed to make it out of the bloodbath alive, and that's what mattered most.


He could see what seemed to be a girl darting to a nearby pond not too far from where he was standing, and seeing that he sought out a water source - this secluded pond not too populated - it seemed like the perfect hideout. He allowed himself to slow down to a walk, beginning to catch his breath.


He ran a finger through his shaggy blonde hair, his bright amethyst eyes scanning his surroundings. He could no longer see the girl, but somehow, he judged that she wouldn't be all that dangerous. She was running as fast as she could away from the other tributes just like he was, so he assumed she was after the same thing he was - survival.


Elliot adjusted the bow and arrows tossed over his left shoulder, and sat down by the pond, taking a look through his survival pack that was perched up on his right. There was a water bottle with a built in filter - and he suddenly felt blessed. He smiled, letting out a soft and charming chuckle as he dipped the bottle into the pond, filling it up and taking it out, putting in the filter and attaching the top.


He took a couple drinks, it soothing his throat wondrously. He then flickered his gaze all around him, scanning the area for other tributes, and allowed himself to relax whenever he didn't see anyone. He got up after drinking and began to wander about, seeing a small crevice where it appeared spacious and comfortable to hide in. However, as he approached, he noticed a figure inside - the girl from before.


He readied his bow and arrow, pointing one at her as he awaited to see whether she was aggressive or not. Although, even though his stance was threatening, he knew he probably wouldn't be able to release the arrow. He's never killed a human before, and in all honesty, he didn't want to.

As she heard someone moving outside of her hiding place Taylor froze up. The steps came closer and closer until she saw a boy standing in front of her, readying a bow aimed for her. This is it... she thought. Gone on the first day. She looked at him with fear in her eyes with a look that was pleading for her life. She had no intention of having to hurt anyone and he didn't seem to notice. "P-pleas, don't kill me, I was just looking for water, I'm s-sorry." she stammered. She hated crying in front of people, but she could feel them popping up when she didn't want them to. She saw his blonde hair flash in the light and fierce purple eyes which contrasted with her dark brown hair and mossy green eyes. She looked back up at him to see what he was going to do next.

Elliot noticed the ever-so clear look of terror in the girl's eyes, and as soon as he realized that, he immediately put his bow away. "No, no, don't worry - I'm not going to kill you!" He reassured her, his amethyst eyes going soft. "You don't need to apologize, I was just making sure you weren't hostile," he spoke, his words soothing as he backed away from her a little bit, giving her some space. He scanned her with his shimmering mauve eyes, taking in her rather chaste appearance. He didn't see her all that well before, being that she was concealed in the shadows, but as his eyes adjusted, he clearly noticed that she couldn't possibly be a hostile. She didn't have a single weapon, and she looked too frail to be brute handed. He leaned back a little, allowing himself to relax. "I'm sorry for scaring you," he apologized, rubbing the back of his head awkwardly. He knew that this wasn't the place to feel guilt or empathy, but he just had too big of a heart. He just wasn't meant for these brutal arenas.
 
Taylor looked at him surprised and shyly smiled. "Oh, thank goodness. It's okay, I understand." she replied as she squeezed out of the rock, straitening up from being squished between a rock and a hard place... literally. She looked at him and decided that she could trust him. "My name's Taylor Rose, but you can call me Taylor." she greeted him a bit awkwardly, mostly because of the earlier situation.
 
Orion had darted off into the forest,being able to grab a pack and a spear with bow and arrows.He jumped through some bushes and continued on,hearing the sound as people began fighting."Ok so im good for now......but I need to get to some water thats my first priority."He said and turned,catching a glimpse of two people,a girl and boy he walked over.He walked up and aimed his bow at them both."Look unlike him i'll kill you and won't miss a beat now both of you put your arms down or ill put a arrow between your eyes before you can even yell."He said and aimed mainly at the boy,knowing he could easily and quickly take the girl out with his spear.
 
Taylor looked over to the new... 'guest' and slightly glared at him. He was tall and most likely a bit clumsy on his feet due to his size. She saw a log not too far from where he stood which could easily trip him if he didn't look down like most people his height since they usually look ahead instead of down. She looked to the boy beside her, unsure of what to do. She raised her arms and looked to the log and back to the blonde, hoping he'll catch on. She didn't want to hurt anyone, but this guy may not even give her a chance to get along with him, let alone escape with both her, and her new ally alive. She then looked back to the giant. He was really mean and not trying to think that some of us had it just as bad if not worse as he did unlike the other boy who was understanding and sincere.

Elliot was quickly on his feet at the new arrival, and just as he pointed his bow, Elliot aimed his straight back. "Same goes for you. Two against one - I suggest you stand down," he spoke, his amethyst eyes - which were once soft and soothing - turned fierce and cold. As if naturally, he moved his body in front of Taylor's, acting somewhat as a shield as he contemplated what to do. He knew that he couldn't remain at a standoff with this guy forever, and he didn't appear to be the "let's be allies" type. But, for now, they seemed to only be staring each other down. "I'll kill you if I have to," he began, "But, honestly, I don't want to if unneeded." Elliot's arm was firm and unwavering, being the superb archer he was, as soon as he released the arrow it would go exactly where it wanted it to - through this man's heart. Even though he had brute size, there was no way he could survive something like that. But, still -- Elliot really didn't want to kill anyone. But he would and knew he would have to if it came down to kill or be killed.
 
Orion looked at the guy and stared him back down.He wasn't in the mood to kill anyone and frankly thought these two would make excellent allies."Fine ill stand down."He says and putting his bow down walked over to them.He put his arrow back into the quiver and held his hands up."Looked I don't want no trouble,but umm were not exactly that far from the cornucopia and those District 1's and 2's are probably forming their alliances now.Now I may not be or look very nice but we can help eachother,im big and able to draw attention,you guys are small and can take out the competition and in the end me and you can have our little stand off guy...that is if we can come to an alliance."He said and looked from one to the other.
 
As the blonde boy moved in front of Taylor, she became surprised by him once again. He was protecting her, a total stranger. She hoped with all her might that all three of them came out of this alright, if not at least two. She looked from behind him at the tall boy who was still pointing at them. She put her hands down and watched the two have a stare down as she gulped down the anxiety of the menacing aura emanating between the two. As she heard the boy make an offer, she smiled and came out from behind him. "You sure are misleading you know that?" she replied teasingly at how soft he quickly became. "What do you think, a good choice for an alliance?" she asked looking to the other boy she met earliest, never getting either one's name.
