The 45th Hunger Games

"Okay good luck!" she replied as she went towards the bushes. She noted that there were also some poisonous berries next to the edible ones that were night lock berries. She began picking the good berries, staining her fingers various colors as she began to pile them up on the inside of a pocket she made by holding up the front of her shirt exposing her stomach. Her shirt was also getting stained but she didn't really care, it looked kind of cool. She heard some rustling and then a small rabbit cry. That must be Elliot she smiled to herself. She heard his voice call out to her about having rabbit for dinner. "Sounds good! We have plenty of berries too but please don't pick any yourself without showing me first since I've discovered some poisonous ones around here as well." she said, turning slightly to the direction Elliot was currently standing.

Eric saw Serenity's expression become more introverted, and more saddened, when she started talking about killing. His brow furrowed at that; he couldn't relate to her on this. He had spent his whole life training, and the death of another tribute was just the natural culmination of that training. It was his way of proving that he was the stronger of the two competitors. He had never really thought to feel bad about it.

He felt the beginning's of a moral dilemma stir within himself. Did he like killing? And was it wrong if he did?

Serenity kept talking however, and her comment about finally feeling free made him put his own thoughts on the back burner. Were they free? Eric supposed they were. Free to fight or free to cower or free to give up and wait for the other tributes to find you.

"It's the illusion of freedom, Serenity. We'll always be caged in Panem. The best we can hope for is a gilded cage."

Eric stood up and brushed the dirt off his pant legs. They had been talking quite a while. Perhaps they didn't get any sleep, but even relaxing for an evening as they just had was pretty rejuvenating. Or at least, he thought so. Did she?

"Hey, I'm going to make some breakfast. If you want to sleep at all, now would be the time. We have to back up and keep looking for water once the sun is truly up."

Elliot seemed to smile with his voice as he replied. "Alright, sounds good! Don't worry, I'll stay away from picking berries," he stated, letting out a little chuckle as he went back to camp. He put the dead rabbit on the side, looking for a suitable stick to pierce it with as he turned it around over a fire to cook it. Being that it was getting lighter out, a fire would be less noticeable. All he had to do was find some wood that didn't smoke too much and give away their position. So, that being his next mission, he went off to find some safe wood to burn. Once he succeeded in doing that, he returned back to the camp and started a small fire. He cut up some of the meat off the rabbit, and poked a stick through it as it roasted it over the fire. It would be a nice snack for lunch, and of course, he'd share the product with his new allies. The savory meat along with the sweet, nutritious berries would be a fine combination for getting ready for battle.

Serenity looked up towards Eric as he stood up and dusted himself off, taking in what he had said just before doing so. She didn't think he understood what she meant by feeling free, although she did understand what he meant by his statement. She knew that they would never truly be free in this world, but she was grateful for getting to feel like she was - even if it was just an illusion in the moment. Going from being trapped at home and hated for every possible thing, to the capitol just before the games, and then here in this wide, beautiful forest filled with wonder was quite a miraculous change. It almost made her happy that she got reaped, for she might as well of been dead back in her dreadful house in district three.

Serenity stood up and dusted herself off, as well, as she turned to look back at Eric. "I know there's no true freedom here in Panem.. Here in this world. But, being here and experiencing all this so far has given me a stronger sense of freedom. And I'm not going to stop pursing it - someday.. Someday I'll truly be free," she stated under her breath, and nodded to what he had said. "I'm not all that tired, actually," she stated. Serenity has always had terrible insomnia, which she supposed was a perk in these games. She didn't really have as large of a need for sleep as most others did. And, them relaxing all evening and talking was rest enough for her. Plus, she got to know a little more about Eric - and that was refreshing and eye-opening.

"I can go ahead and search for water while you get breakfast," she proposed, turning her albino eyes towards him for approval. "If you don't want to do that, I suppose I'll just wait here for you to return and we can search together."

Eric eyed the girl that seemed to get more intriguing by the second, turning over what she had just said in his mind. He smirked. Not condescendingly, as smirks had a tendency to be. It was more mischievous, really. As if they were sharing an inside joke.

"Careful what you say. The Capitol doesn't want us to find true freedom, they might get antsy if we start talking about it."

He turned and rummaged through their pack, looking for something to cook. They had brought tons of fruit, and had a few loaves of bread, but protein seemed to be at a premium. He'd have to at least attempt hunting. His father had briefly mentioned some ways to create snares, so hopefully setting a few up would yield some results. When Serenity mentioned something about looking for water without him, Eric nodded his head in consent, before adding "But be careful. There might be more to watch out for than just tributes in these woods. The first sign of trouble and yo head back here."

After that, he started off towards the tree line to the left of the camp site, before turning back to face his ally. She glowed in the soft morning light. Eric checked himself, and tried to remember he had to focus on winning the Games, not making nice with a girl, no matter how pretty she was. His mental reprimand didn't really help at all.

"And hey, Serenity? If anyone could ever escape to true freedom... It'd be you." One last parting smile, and then he disappeared behind the brush.

Serenity rolled her colorless eyes at Eric's comment, allowing a concise giggle to escape her porcelain pink lips. "So what? They're always antsy," she commented, showing him one of her enrapturing smiles for a moment or so. She listened to his warnings and just shook her head, a smile still on her face. "I'll just place a dagger between it's eyes, remember?" she began, "Don't worry. I'm no fool," she reassured, and then watched as he turned his back to her, beginning on the search for food.

She watched, and then looked into his pale blue and brown eyes as he turned back to look at her. He seemed to scan her for a moment, as if taking in her being. She didn't quite understand why, and was about to question why he was starting until he began to speak. The words he said made her face glow with ecstasy, and she couldn't hide the glisten in her eyes. Indeed, Eric did inspire her, just as she admitted to him before. Thanks to him, she truly did feel empowered - like she could, and would, survive these games.

And finally be free.

She returned his parting smile with an angelic and heartwarming one of her own. "Th-.. Thank you, Eric!" she called out to him before disappearing into the brush, herself.

She began to wander about the forest, keeping her eyes and ears peeled for any suspicious sights or sounds. So far, so good, and she didn't notice any sign of tributes or other dangers nearby. Although, she knew with these game makers, such peace would never last. So, she made it her mission to find a water source quickly and return to camp. She had her survival pack on her back, which contained a couple water bottles with filters inside, so she decided that once she did find water, she'd fill up the bottles for her and Eric.

Soon, she followed the sound of what sounded like flowing water. A river of some sorts soon came into view, and she stayed hidden behind a tree until the coast was clear of tributes. This was a very large and easy-to-find water source, so she was sure that some other tributes would be nearby sooner or later. Possibly even now, hiding just like she was. After a minute or so of concealment, she finally left her hiding place and darted for the waters. She filled up the bottles and stuck them back in her bag, turning back around to head back to camp.

However, there stood one of the careers, blocking her bath. A rather tall and darkly tanned one, who looked at her with eyes like a lion's. Serenity felt her heart jump, and readied one of her throwing knives. She threw one at him, but she missed her target. He still received a rather deep gash to his cheek, though. He winced at the pain, which allowed Serenity enough time to sprint away from him. She was thankful for her small size, for that allowed her to weave right past him like a mouse, disappearing back into the brush.

Selene's fire had gone out through the night and left her shivering slightly when she woke. Despite this, she could feel the heat of the day sneaking down the damp cave. She was excited to move towards the sunlight. She ate up the last bits of food she had, which was a few berries and some roots before having a good drink of water. It was clear she would need to get more. The redhaired girl gathered her pack and set out into the day, her eyes acutely skittering to every crevice.

When she was within feet from the water, she heard voices and a fight unfurling. She caught her breath and kneeled down in some dense bushes, peering out. Serenity and some boy were fighting. Selene ripped her knife out of her bag and ran towards the water, quickly scooping up a bit while the girl wasn't watch and zipping back into the forest and quickly away from the fight between tributes. She slowed and pulled off her pack swiftly, stuffing the bottle inside before hefting it back on.

"I FOUND YOU!" she heard a cry from behind and hit the dirt, rolling to the right and away from the blow of a cocky female. She winced and quickly stood, using the hilt of her dagger to slam against the hand of the girl that gripped tightly to a sword that was rather unbalanced in her hands. The girl cried out and dropped the sword. Within seconds, Selene Calloway spun towards the girl, grabbing a clump of her black hair, muttering a simple "sorry" before she ruthlessly stab the tip of her blade into the girl's throat, allowing her to gurgle a scream around the crimson pouring from her mouth. The redhead shut her eyes tight and pulled the blade across, completely opening the neck. She quickly dropped the body, now coated in the tribute's blood with a scowl.

Taylor finished picking berries and headed back once she heard his reply. On the way back, she could smell cooking meat and her stomach began to rumble hungrily. Trying to silence it, she popped a few berries in her mouth which worked, for a few seconds that is. "That smells delicious!" she proclaimed as she saw Elliot cooking the rabbit over a small fire, just enough to cook the meat but still be safe and not emit any signs of their position. She put the berries on a large oak leaf she found and tried to clean her fingers and shirt to no avail. Finally giving up, she sat down next to him as her emerald gaze lingered over the meat.

A few moments later, she heard a faint scream and winced as she turned towards the sound with an urgent look on her face as she felt her heart almost beat out of her chest from fright. She didn't expect that and was scared that whoever was responsible for making that person scream might find them. She looked to Elliot as her eyes flickered with fear. "E-elliot..." she started, trying to hold herself together. She was extremely nervous about what will happen in the future knowing that the numbers of tributes were decreasing every passing hour.

Elliot, as he cooked the meat, kept his senses peeled. He knew the fire was small enough to go about unnoticed and big enough to cook the meat, but he was still a little paranoid about it. He nearly jumped up into battle mode when Taylor came back into the scene, because when he heard the footsteps coming through the brush, he wasn't sure whether it was her or something else. But, he kept his composure and calmed down as soon as he heard her sweet, reassuring voice. He just showed her his usual, intoxicating and charming smile as he nodded towards her. "Yep, it's going to be great," he began, and handed her one of the chunks that were completely cooked. He cooked it to where it was still tender and not burnt, but also not still raw. "Here," he offered it to her, and then proceeded to slicing off another piece of meat for himself.

Elliot's head also began darting around after he heard the scream, but he managed to regain more of his composure than Taylor seemed to. "Don't worry, Taylor. I'm sure it's going to be alright," he reassured her, and finished cooking up the meat, setting it down beside him. "Want me to go check it out?" He asked, his amethyst eyes scanning her emerald green ones for an answer. They seemed to fearful, and in an attempt to comfort Taylor, he flashed a reassuring smile. He stood up and approached her, leaning down over her and patting her gently on top of the head. "I won't let anything happen to you, don't worry," he spoke, smiling down upon her softly.

Taylor smiled sheepishly back to him as she shook her head. "No, you don't have to go check it out but thanks for the offer. I know I'm safe with you." she agreed. She took a bite from the meat and felt better, not just from eating real food besides berries, but from the reassuring pet on the head Elliot gave her. "Here Eli, have a few berries! They taste good with rabbit." she offered, trying to get her mind onto something more optimistic, she even shortened Elliot's name to sound more relaxed. She warmed her hands on the small fire as it began to flicker out.

Elliot couldn't help but smile as Taylor called him Eli - one of his nicknames. He showed her a soft smile and gladly took some berries, and popped a few into his mouth before munching away at the rabbit eat he cooked. His eyes widened at the delicious combination of the flavors. Before he only thought of how the nutrition and protein of each would help them out with stamina - now, he was just astonished at the incredible flavor. "You sure know how to pick 'em, Taylor," he chuckled softly, gladly beginning to eat his lunch. "Quite the combination," he praised the food, glad that he had Taylor around to choose the poisonous berries from the downright delectable ones.

"I try." she shrugged playfully as she also did the same in eating a berry and then some rabbit. She closed her eyes as she let out a happy sigh. "I'm surprised they even had these berries, they're really rare." she added as she opened back her eyes, examining a berry before also popping it into her mouth. She gave him a quick, cute smile as she got an idea. She had found some other berries while she was out that mixed with the berries they were currently eating which tasted even better when blended with the taste of the first berry. "Close your eyes and open your mouth!" she urged him, naive to what the sentence had sounded a bit off from what she was thinking about as she hid the berries behind her back. She wanted to see his face when he tasted them, but wanted it to be a surprise.

Elliot took note of her brief and adorable smile, and detected a hint of mischievousness behind it like she had got some idea. Just as he was about to question her about it, she randomly blurted out, "Close your eyes and open your mouth!" Elliot raised a brow at this, a playful and slightly confused smirk on his face. He had to admit, he nearly burst out into laughter. But, he realized that she was hiding something behind her back, so he thought that maybe she was just going to feed him something. He was reluctant to do as she said for a moment, being that he didn't know what she was going to pop into his mouth. What if she had gathered a poison berry and planned on tricking him? But, at the same time, he didn't think he could afford such thoughts like that. She was the only person he truly trusted within these games, and he didn't want to doubt their alliance. So, taking a leap of faith, he opened his mouth and shut his eyes, still holding back laughter at how her words sounded. "Don't put anything disgusting in there, alright? If I feel tiny insect legs crawling across my tongue, I'm going to tickle you until you scream," he threatened her playfully, peeking open one eye as their amethyst beauty glistened with humor briefly before he closed them once more.

Once Taylor was sure that his eyes were closed, she got closer and put the delicious berries into his mouth. She stepped back, waiting for his reaction as she giggled to herself at how she thought his face might look. She was relieved that she wasn't planning on putting anything like a bug in his mouth because she was extremely ticklish and there wasn't one spot on her body that wasn't a good spot to tickle and cause her to laugh uncontrollably. "How does it taste? Good right?" she asked anxiously.

Elliot awaited anxiously as he had his mouth open. It was unnerving, and the suspense was killing him. Just as he was about to ask her what she was doing, he felt a round substance pop into his mouth, and he began to chew it contently. His eyebrows raised in pleasure, and he smiled. However, because he knew she was expecting him to like the berry, he got an idea on how to tease her. So, after the split second of him enjoying it, he switched off into a very distasteful face, and opened his eyes. He made his expression look very unhappy and displeased with what she had given him. "It's horrid," he pretended like he didn't like it, and just when he thought she was going to buy it, he allowed the chuckles to come out. "I'm kidding, it's good. Very good," he stated, and leaned over towards her, patting her on the head again. He gazed into her emerald green eyes for a moment, and reflected on how much he was enjoying this time with her. He felt terrible, knowing that in these games.. If they did manage to survive until the end, one of them would have to die. He knew he couldn't possibly kill Taylor - he could only think about protecting her from this cruel world. But, he also didn't want to die either. It was a never ending dilemma that he didn't want to think about, but he knew that he'd have to face it sooner or later. Getting attached like this was foolish, as was trusting. But... He just couldn't be any other way. Taylor was just far too precious in his eyes.

Taylor's mouth dropped when he gave a sour face and almost thought that he was mad at her but was relieved of that feeling when he finally gave her a mischievous smile. "You're a tease, you know that?" she laughed at his joke. She smiled up at him triumphantly at knowing that he really did like it. As he gazed into her eyes for a few seconds, she felt a slight flutter in her chest at how he was looking at her but shook it off when she remembered where they were. They were in a place which destined for one of them, or maybe even both, to die. Their fun times together would soon come to an end and they would have to turn away from each other. She didn't wan to die, but there was no way she was going to force herself to kill him and was ready to just allow herself to die in his stead. He probably had more to live for, a family, a home, friends. Taylor's family was gone and she lived on her own which is why she volunteered for her classmate who had people who wanted and loved her.

Elliot smirked towards her, proudly nodding at her accusation. "Why yes, yes I am," he joked, letting out a soft laugh as he allowed himself to tumble back unto the grass. Elliot didn't for one minute regret his choice to volunteer in his little sister's stead, for if she came her, she probably would have been one of the first to die in the bloodbath like all of those other children did. But, at the same time... He knew that he would probably not make it in these games. There was only so long you could hide in paradise. Eventually it'll come down to kill or be killed, and with how high of an empathy sense Elliot has, and his soft heart... He'd probably be the one getting killed. Sure, Elliot would end up sending an arrow through someone's head if they threatened Taylor or anyone else he bonded with, but... Emotionally, he wasn't sure if he could handle. it. He let out a sigh as he thought about all this, and looked up to the sky through the forest's canopy. He hoped he'd find some edge soon and stop being such a softy - how else would he be able to survive and return home to his sister like he promised?

Taylor looked around their camp and sighed. "We may have to move soon to another pond. I'm sure the others have began to journey deeper into the forest. If we stay here, they may find us before we even have time to move on further out." she suggested, looking down to Elliot. "Though I'm still not sure how many of us there are left..." she added softly. She couldn't even remember how long she's been there. It felt like an eternity, but also felt like it's only been a few seconds. She was lost with time and didn't really bother to think about what day it might be. It was around midday from the position of the sun so if they wanted to head out today, they'd have to go real soon if they wanted to find another source of water before night came by where it would be more dangerous to walk around, but they could also leave early in the morning if they had to.

Elliot nodded in Taylor's statement, agreeing with her completely on having to move soon. They couldn't stay in one place for more than a night or so, being that there were surely other tributes seeking them out. God knows what the game makers would come up with, too - they always have some sort of brutal way of making the tributes unite and clash together in a fit of carnage. He looked towards Taylor and flashed her a reassuring, kind smile. "Alright, let's head out, then. I'll carry our supplies," he offered, taking down the tent and putting it in a survival pack. He also put in his water bottle with equipped filter, the ropes, hunting knives, and so on that they had. He put his bow and arrow over his shoulder, and looked over at Taylor. "You can carry the food, if you want," he suggested with a smile. He didn't want to leave it behind to rot away. They'd probably get hungry later, anyways, and it'd save him from having to go hunting again.

"Sure thing!" she nodded as she gathered the food, making her way behind Elliot as she got herself ready for the journey. It might not take long, but it could also take all the rest of the day. "I'm ready, lead the way kind sir." she smiled playfully. She began to wonder what the game makers had in store, they've seemed to be sitting back for awhile. Usually they have something happen by now unless the other tributes were being amusing enough for them to just watch a bit longer before interfering with their own tricks. For all she and Elliot knew, there could be a camera showing them on live television right now. She glanced around but it was hopeless, they had the cameras hidden too well for anyone to see without looking right at them from one centimeter away.

Has this RP died? Nobody else is replying anymore or interacting with one another other than you and me. :c This isn't supposed to feel like a one on one D'x Lol!

((Hehe, time to get some people back!))

With her things strapped across her shoulders, Tracy climbed up a tree and stayed up there. It would be a nice hideout for the time being. Once she felt that the other Tributes left, she would probably head somewhere else. She looked inside her backpack to see what the Gamemakers had equipped it with. Hm...a sleeping bag, a few matches, a water bottle, and...what's this? Reaching in further, Tracy felt her hands brush across something cool and metallic. Upon taking it out, she saw that it was a vintage Swiss Army knife. She hadn't ever seen anything like it before in person, only having seen pictures of some in books. Tracy put the knife back and closed the backpack.

A sudden smell of smoke hit her nostrils, making Tracy turn around. The trees were in flames, and the fire was spreading towards where she was. Her eyes widened and she felt like she was going to have a panic attack. Without thinking, she tried to climb down the tree while keeping all of her things with her. By the time she finally got to ground level, the flames were already a few feet away from her. Tracy broke into a sprint in hopes of being able to get away from the fire.

She found herself going deeper and deeper into the forest, but the flame kept coming. To her dismay, she saw two figures off in the distance (Elliot and Taylor). Hopefully, they wouldn't try to kill her and possibly let her escape this fire.

((So, basiaclly what's happening is that the Gamemakers let out a huge wildfire in hopes of killing off a Tribute or two.))

Eric didn't have more than a few minutes to put up traps before he heard both screams of terror and anger from the north. A shiver went down his spine. That was the way Serenity had gone.

He told himself not to go. It was dangerous to get into a fight against an unknown enemy in the vague hope of rescuing someone else. He had spent his whole life learning to survive amidst the carnage the games were known for, and rushing in like this was against everything his father had attempted to teach him. No, it would be better to go back to camp, grab what was most useful, and then disappear until he could get the drop on anyone else, rather than the other way around.

But instead of doing what appeared to be most logical, Eric did something entirely based upon emotion, which was to drop the snare he had been setting up and immediately start sprinting though the brush towards the noise. Branches and twigs slashed at him, trying to hook into his shirts fabric and clawing into his eyes, but he kept running despite it all, before finally arriving in a relatively large clearing, notable for the river running through it and the confrontation between Serenity and a large boy going on to Eric's left.

He didn't hesitate for a moment. He quickly charged at the boy before he could close in on his ally, and tackled him the the ground. He pinned the boy down, thanks to his superior weight, and with his right hand he grabbed his hammer, smashing the boy on the forehead with the large metal weapon. His skull caved and his eyeballs rolled back, but Eric kept swinging. He was in a bloodlust filled furver, and only stopped after he himself was coated in specs of his victims blood. He rolled off the body, exhausted from the physical stress. He saw Serenity in the corner of his vision, and saw up wearily.

"Serenity! I heard screaming. Are you okay?"

Eric had been so caught up in the immediate danger, he had failed to notice the other girl and her victims carcass, no more than 20 meters away from them.

((Alright, sounds cool :D Sorry for the late reply~))

Elliot watched as Taylor gathered the food and showed her a soft smile. Just as he was contemplating which direction to start walking in, he could see a figure that was seemingly feminine nearing towards Elliot and Taylor. He readied his bow and arrow, ready to shoot the figure if it was a hostile, but as she neared closer and closer, he saw the look of horror planted on her face. He wondered what she was so scared of and what she was running from, assuming it was some sort of tribute at first...

But, then came the fire.

"T-Taylor! Let's go! Run!" Elliot exclaimed as he grabbed Taylor by the wrist, pulling her in the opposite direction of the fire and beginning to sprint away. Elliot was still unsure of whether the girl running behind them was a hostile or not, but for now, he was more focused on staying away from the fire the game makers had started. Knowing how they like twisting things up, he was sure there'd be much more to the fire than mere flames. Probably large objects flying through the air ignited in a blaze or something, but one things for sure - he wasn't going to stick around and find out.

[QUOTE="BLADE MdM]Eric didn't have more than a few minutes to put up traps before he heard both screams of terror and anger from the north.

Serenity continued dashing away, but only got so far until the career caught up with her. Before she could even ready a knife, the large figure lunged at her and she screamed, but then another figure lunged on him. She saw the flicker of those familiar dark brown and pale blue eyes, and the clean cut brown hair. "E-Eric!" Serenity called out, her hands retreating to cover her mouth in shock. H-He... He came for me? She thought in disbelief, and her colorless eyes watched him in wonder.

As he kept swinging at the tribute, long after she knew he would already be dead, Serenity came to realization just how good at killing Eric was - how passionate he was about it. Serenity then figured that, having a parent that's a Victor, he was probably raised around such training... Preparing for things like this. She bit down on her lip as she looked down at the carcass, and then looked towards Eric's body as he looked up at her from his position on the floor.

"Y-Yeah... I'm fine..." she trailed off, and then followed Eric's stare to the other tribute near them.

She had just killed someone, and their lifeless body rested on the forest floor. Her hair was just as red as the blood that coated her body. Serenity immediately readied a dagger and was prepared to throw it, but deided to wait and see whether the girl was a hostile or not. She seemed to take on that girl quite well, judging by the large cut through her throat. Serenity always had respect for those who possessed skill with knives. But, at the same time, she knew that if she was capable of that - she was a formidable foe.

"What do we do, Eric? Run? Attack?" She questioned him, and then noticed what seemed to be a fire being set ablaze in the distance. Serenity tilted her head as she directed her attention towards it. "Now, who would start a fire that big in broad daylight---" she began, but then noticed that it wasn't a fire a tribute would start... No, it had to be something the game makers made. It was far too large and rampant to be an intentional fire started by a tribute, and it was far more dangerous and murderous. "E-Eric! Look!" Serenity pointed towards the inferno. "We need to get across the river! Now!"
