Team Composition [Four Factions ]

Just trying to catch up: I'm not sure I understand Necrotech. You guys seem to have a pretty good chemistry with making and using this stuff.

I'll leave the General/Combat to you fhgwdads; and the mental stuff to hammercro. I'll just go for the social/information gathering then?

Oh: and Sorcery (or 2nd Circle Necromancy) is good for summoning demons, I guess. Can dematerialize, and the Perronelle and Sesseljae are always helpful.

I'll jam out a proto-character sheet tomorrow if you guys are cool with this arrangement.

If that's cool with you, then let's do it. Regardless of me going for the brutal combat machine, I think that everyone should be somewhat skilled in combat, even if it just means having a decent weapon (artifact, necrotech, exceptional/perfect quality, or charm-generated), an excellency, and some kind of a defense Charm (perfects are preferred, but potentially unnecessary; Flickering Wisp Evasion is only the second Charm deep in the tree though).

As far as information gathering goes - you don't necessarily have to go for that if you want to do something else instead. I was considering giving my character Followers/Henchmen/Spies to represent criminal networks my character would have established. While an Exalt will always be better than mortals for that sorta thing, they could either make up for the lack of such or could aid the whole scheme.

Focus-wise, I'm planning for Melee, maybe Archery (secondary combat mode?), War, and perhaps Presence (Dread Lord's Demeaner is nasty).

EDIT: Er.... Wrong mode of thinking there. Area-wise, we're talking heavy Combat, War, and perhaps a little bit of misdirection/social (Stealth/Larceny/Presence?).

Thrown or Archery, Craft, Occult, Medicine for me.

Going to be a pain in the ass assembling all the information for crafts together though, but too damn fun to not do it.

Go some sort of melee (with a little m) with Abyssal War. That Arise-And-Slaughter makes a bunch of zombies? It's a HUGE number. Like "bam instant Mag 3 army." If you go Archery, the zombies will be kind of useless. There's also that Encirclement War Charm that's awesome, but requires some sort of melee. It's also a tier 7 charm, so unlikely you'll take that any time soon...

Unless you just meant taking dots of the skill, then go crazy.

I might go Dodge for defense, but rely upon Killing-Words (the charm that makes them take damage instead of spending willpower to resist commands.) Need to play with some things and see if that's plausible.

Well, if you go Necrotech alone, you'll only need Craft (Fire) and Medicine. Magitech will add Craft (Air), one more elemental Craft (probably Earth, seeing as you're planning on Manses that'll need maintainence), as well as itself (Craft [Magitech]). General artifacts... vary from one to another, but you can probably get away with Fire and Air unless you start doing stuff with funky materials like Ironwood or liquids.

EDIT: And yep, Arise and Slaughter is one my favorite Charms in the whole tree. It's ridiculous.

Archery is just secondary. My character will, at most, start with an Excellency in it. If he goes beyond that, it'll only be because he doesn't have anything else.

Dodge is really easy to dip into, so I honestly can't suggest doing so enough. Two bonus points to get Dodge 4 (if its not favored), two Charm choices for Flickering Wisp Evasion, and you're set. Maybe get Foe-Shaming Defense if you want a flurry breaker. Aside from that though, it'll be a lot less painful to get Dodge and Dodge Charms at character generation than later in the game if you don't plan on Favoring it (the training time will suck).

Killing Words Technique is nice, but if you get a beefy Exalt chasing you down, those three health levels he sucks down to ignore Dread Lord's Demeanor aren't going to slow him by much. I tend to view the defenses provided by DLD and its enhancements as secondary, as well as a "counterattack" of sorts (not in the same vein as the system term, but as something to mess up your foe should he decide to screw with you).

I'm tempted to make a manse.
That is mobile. And flies. With essence cannons.
Hey guys, we're not playing wh40k!

Unless you want the Lunar coming in a Zerg swarm, the Dragon Blooded in a Baneblade and the Solars in Terminator suits.

Mmmh... it's not such a bad idea...

Jokes apart, you are on the run... The Lover cannot even pretend she doesn't exactly know where one of her flying manses is.

Besides, I'm not sure if all this kind of things are covered in the MEP.

Remember that I'll do only one exception for each of you.

Yeah. There's just too much to take into account to make a manse and everything. At most, maybe a workshop or atelier manse, but I'll probably settle with a good but mundane laboratory to save on costs.

Eh... Not really. I could whip you up a sweet Manse pretty quickly.

But the Mobile manse power is in Dreams of the First Age, meaning you'd have to spend that choice on it.

Xarvh, you know that we're going to have to branch somewhat out of the Core/MoEPs, right? At least to Oadenol's Codex (Artifacts/Manses/thaumaturgy) and the White and Black Treatises (Sorcery/Necromancy). If we don't, then pretty much any and all Sorcerers are limited to the 10 or so Sorcery spells in the Core, and Necromancers basically get shafted by the complete lack of Necromancy all together.

EDIT: There's also the fact that the Core has a total of 16 Hearthstones, most of which are 3+ dots, so anyone who wants a manse will have to pick one of those and most likely spend 3 background dots or have nothing.

On another note, we all should try and figure out why the Lover's gotten all hissy at us (the collaborative fan fic). I mean, 4 BPs would be quite nice to add, especially for those of us going for Essence 3.

Well, manse designs in general would be from Oadenol's Codex. The Mobile power is from DotFA. But there are few factory cathedrals in Creation, as they are relics of the First Age. I highly doubt there would be such manses lying around in the Underworld in the first place.

The Deathlords could easily construct such, the Lover not withstanding. Though, as Xarvh already said, getting something that powerful away from her would be next to impossible.

Fanfiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiicccccccccccccccccccccc.

>_>

I imagine that stealing the Lover's mobile factory cathedral would have far more consequences than just us being on the run.

Then again, she might be too busy in bed to notice.

Still, we're limited by the one selection outside of MEP, which makes things hard.

Yeah, let's not worry about it at this point. So, let's start working this collaborative fan fic out. Unless, that is, we want to ignore 4BP that's basically free. :P

Well obvious choices are losing the fourth of our Circle. Or missing out in recruiting a new Abyssal for the Lover. Or maybe our fourth went rogue to work for a different Deathlord? Just tossing some ideas out there.

Hmm.. I'm not really sure if losing the 4th would have been big enough to get the Lover that pissed at us. Unless we had every opportunity to save him or her and deliberately ignored them out of some scheme. That angle could work, especially if said servant was one of the Lover's most favored. Looking at that from another angle, though, she actually may reward showing that type of cunning and ruthlessness over punishing servants for it.

I was thinking along the lines of failing some kind of task she had set us at before, like subverting a city's populace somewhere, or destroying/stopping the another Deathlord's forces from gaining influence somewhere the Lover did not want said Deathlord to. Something similar enough and around the same scope as our goals for Tyreso where succeeding at Tyreso would seem like something that would bring us favor in her eyes once more.

I figure Abyssals are in somewhat limited supply. Sure she can just jam the exaltation into somebody else, but there is a lot of respawn time where she could get zerg rushed by another Deathlord. I'm also okay with it being something really... petty of the Lover. Like we accidentally stopped a silk shipment that she really liked. Deathlords are powerful enough where they don't need to be rational.

About this factory cathedral, or wherever else you plan on building this Necrotech -- do we have an idea on how we're going to go about hiding that? Giant building made of bones with a conveyer belt where corpses go in and don't leave might raise some eyebrows. And more importantly: get easily sabotaged.

Well of course, you just walk a difficult line of "investment cost" versus "risk." Spending all your points to make a factory with the best security probably means little versus that Solar charm that's like "You destroy a building." Granted, I doubt anybody has that... you get the idea.

Question for the GM:

Are we getting any Liege for free? Are we capped in how much we can take? Do we all need to take the same level?

Being (currently) on the run, it's more practical that you avoid Liege altogether, your current backgrounds expressing what you managed to 'borrow' from her.

Note however that you will have some time to gather your army, which will not count against your backgrounds.

Backgrounds such as followers and resources will help you increase the quality of the people and equipment respectively.

Whatever you do, it's however likely that your recruits, living or otherwise, will include some spies of the Lover.

If I go with the plan and make a Daybreak Necrotechmancer, would I be able to bolster forces with Necrotech things prior to the game with a few starting creations, or only within the game?

Hmm..... I'm not really sure I like that, for two reasons:

-My character concept was somewhat based around the idea of him being one of the Lover's favored servants. The fall from 'grace' makes for a good story, of course, and I had taken that into account. It still forces me to change some things around, however.

-It seriously diminishes the power of loyalist Abyssals. My interpretation of everything so far was that we were 'on the run' to escape her wrath, but not Renegades per say. Giving us the army for free (and hopefully some basic equipment such as weapons, armor, and tents and such) does help ease this.

Though on another note, if we have spies of the Lover in our midst, it's all the better. While I'm not holding my breath, if she sees us making good progress, I would hope that getting back in her favor would be something that could potentially happen in-game.

I'm not totally opposed to this though. If that's what you think will go best, we'll just have to work our way around it. As long as the army itself isn't going to cost us anything (before spending background dots on extra things), I can deal with it and tweak background dots to fit other ends.

Also, a note I may have missed: Where is the nearest Shadowland?

Fhg-etc: If we're not forced to do any work for the Lover (ie: we're out on our own), then we don't qualify for Liege at all. If we're on the run, we're not working for her. Regardless of our motivations.

True, true. The nearest Shadowland is Marama's Fell (for which the Lover has been competing with the Bishop for a while now), around 100 miles to the north. There's some heavy terrain in between though, some mountains and stuff. I'm guessing the idea though is that this will serve as good base of operations for us, from which we can extend our reach into the Fell. It is a little too close to the Realm for my tastes, but I think this is pretty much the closest potential powerbase to the Fell aside from Whitewall, which is pretty much nigh-impossible to take out given the power of its patrons.
