Fantasy Tales of Verattia: Cease The Fires

I think spoilers would be more convenient - although I'd be fine either way. I like the way you handled the stats in Blank - so that'd be my choice.

As for the actual question: A shade of blue sounds a hell lot quicker than a giant man running - so I'll go for 1).

Maculm Woods
Year 614, Reign of the Phoenix Empire

Despite of the incoming attack, you let your guard down to bend over and grab your sword. The soldier was about to strike you down with his spear, when all of a sudden you see a shade of blue quickly rushing towards you. Knowing that such a thing usually is meant for harm, you hopped backward. The soldier's head was struck by it, causing him to fall to the ground.

You took a step forward and poked the soldier with the edge of your sword. No response. He has been killed by that thing. Now that you think of it, you sense some kind of familiarity with that thing, as if you've seen it before. You tried to remember, and whilst you were in the midst of thinking, a familiar figure approached you from the nearby bushes.

Panting, you hear its voice speak your name. "Lars."

This caused you to turn towards it. And your sight was warmly welcomed by a friend - Arman Rincorb, one of the two most loyal allies you've ever had. His robes were a bit dirtied, and a few drops of sweat stained the upper portion of his clothing. The struggle he went through was obviously shown by his appearance.

"Finally found you. I knew you weren't dead.", he continued.

You huffed, and smiled.  "You always precisely arrive at the right time."

Arman chuckled. "Of course. I am a valued member of the Brigade, after all. Keeping my reputation in a well state is one of my duties."

"It's only you?" , you said, as you took a look around.

"No.", Arman replied. "Hembert came with me, though we were separated on the way."

"I see." , you answered. "Ah, right. Is it true that we won the battle for Grassea Pass?"

"In a way, yes.", Arman said. "The bridge collapsed, and it took a lot of the Empire's forces. However, I don't think they'll stop because of that. They'll find another way to take Ocherile."

"Yes.", you sheathed your sword. "They'll go through the Maculm Woods."

"How do you know?", Armand asked, obviously confused and surprised of this info. He trusts you, though he would still want to confirm its validity.

"I saw two soldiers earlier scouting the path we're on.", you turned around and pointed to the south. "They were headed there the last time I saw them. Then these new soldiers came and caught sight of me."

Arman nodded. It seems that he has found it to be true. "In that case, we should try to hinder them here. They won't expect it. But with just the three, or more accurately, the two of us, we won't be able to do much."

[2] "Indeed. We need to regroup with the Brigade."

[1] It's time for heroism - also, I feel like this is the way to run into Hembert, and three is always better than two.

I'll jump on this here wagon, if only because I can't be bothered to actually think about the choice right now.

Maculm Woods
Year 614, Reign of the Phoenix Empire

"That's why I'm heading to their camp.", you say.

Arman, surprised once again, stood there silently for a short while. His widened eyes blankly stared upon you. "Are you mad? It's just the two of us and you plan to go straight into a camp filled with imperial soldiers?", his voice sounded than the usual.

You chuckle. "I'm not planning to have a suicidal assault, if that is what you're thinking.", you continue, taking a step forward.  "This is a chance to scout on the Empire's forces, to see what they are planning, to find their weaknesses. I won't let such a thing slip away from me."

"Although the idea you have is good, I do find it to be more inclined on becoming a failure.", Arman said. "If there is really a camp on the end of this path we're treading on, then we can only assume that the place is heavily guarded. It would not make sense for the Empire's troops, let alone those under Garkuk the Fierce."

"You have a point.", you say. "But wars are won with gambles, Arman. If we are to end this fight or simply advance our influence, in the least, we must take the risk. Right now, we are at a disadvantage, and if it prolongs, the end will not favor us at all."

"Agreed.", he replied. "However, the risk here is too great. It would be very much preferable if we are to come with reinforcements, instead of simply us sneaking around the enemy's camp. One wrong move could mean the end of us, but with a decent amount of troops, we could do a decent amount of damage to them."

"The thing about that, Arman, is that by the time we return with reinforcements, the camp would have already moved to a different spot. These woods are not easy to traverse, let alone find the path we're on. Not to mention, the scouts they've sent earlier would've returned and they might have began to march onto Ocherile.", you try to convince Arman of your decision. Luckily, he sees what you're trying point out and agrees.

"Very well.", he said. "Lead the way, Lars."

The two of you continue to follow the path, heading to the opposite end of the forest - where the assumed camp should be located. As you walk, the winds gently blew past both of you, presenting a calming aura in the midst of this war against the Empire. You've never felt such a thing since the last time you went back to Ridon, the current haven for all sorts of rebellions against the Empire.

And in the middle of all this, Arman posed a question. "I wonder. Why did you save that person, Lars?"

"Who?", you answer.

"The armored one, who almost cost you your life.", he emphasize the latter part.

"I do not truly know. I just felt like I needed to save him. It was as if Crea herself had urged me to do so.", you reply. "Why do you ask this?"

"You seemed to have been surprised earlier when you spoke to person. Could it be that you knew him?", Arman continued. "Or perhaps, he said unveiled something to you? Like he was your long-lost relative or whatnot?"
