Tales of the RDF - OOC

I don't want to come off as being pushy. I just have a lot of great ideas for this game and I don't want it to fizzle in its infancy.

Character Sheet.

Concerning my character. Which template and quite frankly destroid as well is most compatible with a punch-you-in-the-face-as-hard-as-I-can play style?

Thanks for the definition. =)

Well, if you want the overall hardest-hitting, that's the Defender; however, she comes with the least amount of armor. Think of her as a haymaker factory and if she hits your target with both fists (connects with both cannons), that target is really hating life. Plus, the Defender has a super sensor array that makes her very, very accurate. =)

Now if you want to dish it out and take it, I think the Tomahawk is the way to go. He's got two big cannons with the best range, but they can only fire every so often. However, ol' Tommy also has gun clusters and missiles to back up those cannons. He can also take what he dishes out.

As for the Spartan, she's a good mix of armor and firepower (especially with that GU-11 gun pod which Sherwood has stated will be available). Unlike the Tomahawk, the Spartan has hands and if she starts ripping and tearing, it's hell on the receiver (in fact, I don't know of a mech that does better melee damage than the Spartan in this era of Robotech). The Spartan is a great mech with lots of options.

The Defender it is. Now, I'm gonna pretend like I understand the dice system and get to work on finding a template.

@Beowulf, if you happen to take one of the Destroid Aces, you get to pick out two different mecha to be combat trained on. The Defender is a good choice, but I would also recommend the Tomahawk. It is my personal favorite Destroid, and has the ability to reach out and touch someone 20 miles out with those particle cannons. The choice is yours, of course. The write-ups for all five different types are posted in the Items tab.

Tomahawk is my mech of choice as well. Good choices. Though if you like close quarters, the Spartan is definitely the best at that.

Sorry for not following the conversation until now, alerts stopped working for this thread for some reason.

No worries. If at all possible, I would like to have characters picked out and posted by the next week so we can get started with the game.

Just so I have the picture in my head correct, so far, we have Zaile piloting a Tomahawk, and Taniya in a Defender?

Also, to help me keep characters straight, I would like you to add your character's name to the top of each post you make. With all the games I'm running, it is easy to get disoriented with what player has what character.

lol You have until Monday to make your pick, then I'm getting the story on its way.

I received Robotech: Macross Saga Sourcebook today and I'm giving serious thought into the Tomahawk. Quite a few things have changed since 1st edition.

Just let me know. By the book, the Tomahawk is a two person Destroid. I'm making the second person optional, so each one can be operated by a single PC.

Also, I have lots of guns and various vehicles posted in the Items tab that you can check out.

I like the vehicles and weapons you just added!

As for the Tomahawk, yeah I was wondering what you were going to do with the whole pilot/gunner thing.

They've really upped the damage on a lot of weapons and mecha (that standard issue Zentraedi Particle Rifle is something else!). For anyone interested, here's what's going on in my head...

I'm used to playing a Veritech pilot. One big advantage of fighting in a flight-capable Veritech is the automatic dodge factor. This means you're not burning up actions trying to avoid damage. With Destroids, one way or another, I'm going to be dodging as often as is practical. While the Defender can do one thing really well (shoot those awesome cannons) that's all it does well, and it's lightly-armored compared to the Tomahawk and Spartan. I wouldn't mind the light armor, except there's no automatic dodge in a Destroid. So... Yeah. I'm going to swap the Defender training for Tomahawk.

(Plus the Tomahawk is the coolest-looking of the three, but that's really a matter of style. =) ).

Tomahawk was my first pick from jump.

And yes, I imagine we'll all be taking a lot more hits than we would in Veritech. Hopefully we can beat the enemy down faster than they can beat us down. :)

Taniya

That's the plan. After reading this new book, some elements on both sides of the war got considerable upgrades in armor and damage.

I'll start out in the Tomahawk and go with the Spartan when we go on close-combat missions.

It just means that you will have to work as a team and be very careful to watch those Dodge actions. There will be times where you will just have to take the hit. But, don't forget that when being targeted by missiles, first you have your Chaff/Flare packs, but if that doesn't work, you can roll with the impact of the missiles to reduce the damage by half.

And I have no problem with Dann switching his focused mecha to the Tomahawk. I will be adding in an NPC or two, one will take a Defender to be your air defense and radar mecha, while the second will ride as second seat in one of the Tomahawks as your team radio man.

Taniya

Oh, I haven't forgotten. =) Plus, a nice thing about the Tomahawk is that it has missiles for attempts at taking out incoming missile volleys whereas the Defender doesn't.

To be clear: Taniya's specialty mech remains the Spartan (it's the mech most like a Female Power Armor and Veritech). The Tomahawk is just the better pick unless we're in a close-quarter mission (like, say, inside a Zentraedi ship). =)

No problem. Also, one thing I will do to help keep you alive is this: using Chaff/Flares does NOT use an attack; it is a free action and I will try to remind you to use it on the rare times you are faced with a missile-firing Zentraedi mecha.

Speaking of being like the Veritechs, I went ahead and upped your supply of Chaff/Flares/Smoke to 8 charges instead of just four. The flyers have 12 charges for them, so I have little issue with raising the numbers you have in your Destroids.

That's kind of you. Thanks! =)

Hey! I found a terrific website for Robotech fans that offers some hard-to-find artwork and neat details. I saw a shout out here in the Robotech: Macross Sourcebook "thanks" page to a Robotech Reference Guide and I'm thinking this might be the same folks. Check this out! =)

Taniya (Don't mind me posting this here; it's really just a reminder to get into the habit to do it in-game, per Sherwood's request). =)

Heya Sherwood!

Question time again:

1. Do Zentraedi R.C.C.s get the same starting gear as their human counterparts? If so, would it be all right if Taniya, given her history, had a few battle mementos and trophies from both Earth and pre-Earth engagements (RPing goodies)?

2. Concerning game balance, in the Robotech: Macross Saga Handbook, it is mentioned that Zentraedi, once micronized, receive augmented strength. Is that the case in this campaign or are micronized Zentraedi as strong as normal humans?

3. I was thinking of taking MECT (Mecha Elite Combat Training, for those who might not know) Defender. Do you think I should wait until 2nd level or later or perhaps swap out a skill somewhere (if that's allowed)?

@Beowulf Already done back on page 4 of this thread, friend. =)
