Alex kept a firm grip on Nate, and each time he'd speak, Alex would reply. "I know" and "We're getting help for you." He headed towards the medical tent. Once the door was open, he saw two men and Jacob looked up to see them, so did Kaiden. "Alex?" He asked, as Alex helped Nate inside and laid him on the table. Jacob immediately went to work, running his hands along the break. "Well, fortunately, you got him here quick enough, we'll be able to fix his wrist before anything bad happened." He said though he knew he'd have to open it up and look at the wrist bones and the best way to set them back the way they should be. Alex had stepped back as he looked at Kaiden. "Kai?" He asked, as the two looked at each other. "Reunion later! I need a second set of hands, a third set would be great but I know Cameron doesn't like this stuff, and Alex.. well if these two are together, then the love and fear may cloud his ability." Jacob said as Kaiden nodded and rushed over to help.​

The world kept moving so fast and so slow around him. And then he was staring at something strange. Something like… Oh, faces. Faces that looked like they were above. Above? Fix his wrist? Oh okay. Okay. This was where they were going. He raised his other hand, and Emmett was there to try to put it back down. “No.” Nate’s voice was not as strong as usual, but he knew he had to push. “I.. I am in shock.” Be the doctor you always wanted to be. He focused on the glasses on the man who looked at him. He moved his hand to his own glasses. “And blind.” He smiled. Almost laughed. He tried to sit up, which Emmett did not allow, and waved towards his other hand. “It’s… broken. It pulled my hand.” He breathed. “Maybe…” he tried to think. “Radiocarpal joint? Mmm could be… other side? Radioulnar. I can’t… It’s hard to feel it…” He tried to move it, which was difficult for many reasons. “The nerves… they aren’t…” He groaned in frustration. This was supposed to be what he was good at! Why couldn’t he focus?

Jacob blinked as he heard Nate's voice, and watched as Emmett pushed him back down. "Ah, a medic fixing a medic. Okay. Well that's helpful but bud, I need you to stay still." Jacob said, gesturing to Kaiden. "I need some sedative and saline. I can't have him moving around while I'm inside his arm." Jacob said as Kaiden nodded, moving to gather the sedative and filling a syringe with just enough to keep him still and quiet while allowing him to breathe on his own. And he came back over with that and a saline bag on a hook and the kit to put the IV in. "Okay Nate, you need to be still while we do this. I'm going to put you to sleep so I can get inside and check that joint of yours." Jacob said as he talked through it, grabbing the needle with the sedative.​

Emmett was mildly impressed that Nate was still talking and making some sort of sense that Jacob could understand. He kept Nate still, who was still trying to point out something in his hand. “Sleep. Okay. Alex?” The fingers on his other hand twitched as he tried to find him. “Where’s… where’s Alex?” Emmett moved a little, continuing to keep him still, and answered, “He’s right there, okay?” Nate rolled his head to one side and then the other, but he couldn’t see anything. “I don’t… I don’t sleep… um, sleep without…” He tried to focus, but it was so so hard. “Distal… but not a fracture? Alex?”

Alex looked at Nate, hearing him and he stepped up on the other side. He placed a hand on Nate's cheek, rubbing his thumb on the skin. "I'm right here beautiful. You go to sleep and I'll see you soon okay love?" Alex asked, as he kissed the top of his head, at the same time he looked at Jacob and nodded. Jacob slowly injected the sedative as Kaiden placed the IV in his other hand, hooking up the saline. In theory, as Jacob slipped the sedative in, Alex was right there as Nate was sent to sleep.​

Nate turned his head so that he rested it on Alex’s hand. He smiled at him as his world started to fade away. He thought he told them that he only slept when he had Alex with him, but he wasn’t sure if anyone was listening. Or if his words even worked. He closed his eyes, and very soon, he fell asleep. Emmett let out a breath. “Well, isn’t he something else? Alright Jacob, what can we do about this break? How can we help you?”

Alex felt Nate rest his head on his hand he sighed, watching him fall asleep. Tears burned in his eyes as he sighed heavily. Right. He looked up at the others. Jacob sighed, looking at Emmett. “First things first, I need a surgery kit. I’m going to cut him open to see his wrist and find out just what went broken. And then I need something to put them back together.” He said, that was the tricky part to be fair. So he’d start with checking out the break first.​

Emmett nodded and moved away from the table to retrieve the surgery kit. This wasn’t exactly something that he did all the time, but he had been here enough times to at least know where things were. Mostly. He moved back to Jacob to hand him the supplies. “Alex, are you okay?” It was a bit of a silly question since he was clearly not okay. “It’s just a break. Jacob here has put together far worse than this. Maybe not to me personally, but I’ve seen him put people back together who were just about in several pieces.”

Jacob nodded his thanks as he grabbed the surgery kit. “Kai, I need you to hold that light over his arm.” Jacob said, as he prepped the skin and then cut a small line on the wrist after he put on the surgical gloves. Jacob tuned out everyone else as he worked. Kaiden held the light and Alex was running his hands through Nate’s hair. Alex looked up at Emmett and he shook his head. “No. I’m not. I’ve never.. he’s never been this hurt before. A few scratches from infected once but no breaks.” Alex said, as he continued running his hands through his hair. Jacob was hard at work, and he had Kaiden grab some wire and a few small metal rods so he could get the bones back in place so they could heal properly.​

This was a hard moment to watch. At least this wasn’t dire. Emmett thankfully had never been in a situation where he was in this kind of trouble. It was a good thing it happened when they were so close to Jackson. Poor Alex. that was all Emmett could think. Poor Alex was having to work through something no should have to. “You don’t have to worry. Jacob is a pro at this. We had this genius doctor back in the fireflies. Reminds me of him honestly.” He put a hand on Alex’s shoulder. “He’s going to be okay. It’s just his hand. Not his life.”

As Jacob worked, Alex looked at Emmett. He sighed softly, nodding. “Thank you. I know it’s just his hand but.. I’m still worried. He’s done so much for me. And..” Alex paused, continuing to run his hands through Nate’s hair. He breathed in and out. About an hour later, Jacob sewed up Nate’s arm and wrapped it up. He put a metal stint around it and then a cast. “He can’t move the wrist for about a month. Then we’ll check on it after that. He’ll wake up in about twenty minutes. He might be groggy at first, would you like us to leave you?” Jacob asked Alex. He looked up. “Please. Uh. Kai can you stay?” Alex asked before he thought for a moment. “Is Ezekiel here too?” He added and Kaiden nodded though he wasn’t sure if his partner was done at work and wondering where Kaiden was since he never took this long with a back massage.​

Emmett waited there the entire time in case he was necessary, but once the surgery was done, he wasn’t sure how necessary he was to this, especially if it really needed to be Alex there. “I’m going to go find Maria and talk to her about you guys staying here. I’ll come find you a little later.” Then he left to do just that. Ezekiel, who had been hard at work for a while, looked up and wondered where exactly Kaiden was. It was strange for him to not be around yet. He was… at least an hour after how he usually was. This unsettled him. He finished up quickly and made his way to the medical tents. Hoping that this was not a him problem and more like a Hayden showed up and they’ve been talking forever kind of thing. He opened up the door calling out, “I don’t appreciate you stealing my Kaiden,” without even looking who was in there and what was happening.

Alex looked at Emmett who headed out, Cameron following him as he did. Jacob decided to head out a moment later. "I'll see you three later. He'll be fine Alex." Jacob said as he headed out to go find his husband. Alex was still touching Nate, but now he'd sat down and was holding his good hand when he heard the voice of his brother. "Ezekiel." His voice wasn't loud but it was recognizable, even with the amount of time between them. "Love, we're in here. Come in quietly." Kaiden was sitting about two feet from Alex, unsure if he should be closer or if just being in the same room as the younger man who he'd come to see as a brother as well.​

Ezekiel was moderately confused by this answer, but he followed the voice anyway. He knew Kai’s voice but could not immediately recognize the other. It was so familiar. Quietly? Why did they need to be quiet? Oh. Someone laying there. That must have been why Kai was late. Someone must have gotten hurt earlier. He didn’t see who it was, but he had the cast already, so Jacob must have finished with him. He was about to ask when he looked at Kai and another person. Another- “Alex?” The person with the cast no longer meant anything, because that was Alex. That was his brother. His brother he left. “How are you-“ His words ran from his as he tried to make sense of what he was seeing.

Kaiden looked up at Ezekiel entered and he couldn't help the small smile that crossed his face when he saw Ezekiel catch sight of Alex. Alex looked at his brother, the one who'd left with the others. "Hi. I.. It's kind of a long story." Alex said softly as he smiled, his thumb rubbing the back of Nate's hand. "I missed you brother." Alex added, his eyes watching the man before him before he sighed and looked away. "I'd move to hug you but I can't. I'm a little.. I can't leave him."​

Ezekiel stood there shocked. He had not expected to find Alex here. He dreamed about one day reuniting with him. Leaving him was one of the hardest decisions he ever made, but they had to do it. They couldn’t stay there. He thought about Alex every day. And now here he was. With… someone. He moved closer, expecting now to see someone unexpected but that he knew. Someone maybe from the island. Though no one meant as much. But this was someone he did not recognize. He studied him a moment before looking up at Alex. This was someone he brought. Someone new. Ezekiel was not a terribly physical person other than with Kai, both when they fought and when they didn’t. He wasn’t much for physical affection. He met Alex where he was and hugged him there. “That’s okay. I can do that for us. Long story.” He looked at the man laying there that Alex could not move away from. “Is he your long story?”

Alex looked at his brother, his own shock on his face even as he smiled. He'd missed his brother so much, ever since the day they left. He still remembered that day, remembered them leaving. He knew that they had to go and he had to stay, but it was hard. He watched his brother move closer, examining Nate and then he looked at him when he felt arms around him in a hug. He smiled at that, wrapping his free arm around him in response. Then he turned to look at Nate again. "He's a big part of my long story yes. This is Nate, my partner." Alex said, moving that free arm and brushed some hair out of his love's face gently before he sighed softly and turned back to Ezekiel. "How have you been?"​

Alex and Ezekiel shared much back on the island together. Between experiences and worries, they knew what it was like for the other one surviving in this world. They defied a lot together. Between typical pairings and marriages as well as a war that did not make a whole lot of sense, they were with each other through a significant amount of their personal growth. A partner. Alex had a partner. “I’ve been fine. We’ve,” he reached out to take Kaiden’s hand, “been fine. Are you… are you really here? Or did we just perchance find you in your time of need?” He glanced at the cast.

Alex looked at Ezekiel, his mind running full speed as he thought about what it was like having his brother here again. He saw him take Kaiden’s hand and then heard the question. Kaiden squeezed Ezekiel’s hand when he took it gently and smiled at Alex. “As long as you’ll have us, yes. We’re here. Though we were not in need until we met Cameron and Emmett. We helped save them from a horde and one of the infected broke his wrist.” Alex said, looking at Nate and then he thought for a moment. “Is.. Theo and Eli here too?”​

That could have gone worse then. A broken wrist was hardly cause to be too upset about. Though, he could see that the pain in Alex was astoundingly large. That was love. Ezekiel had known that kind of pain well. A snorted. “Your willingness to accept their ways was always amazing, my brother. Infected.” He shook his head. “That was the hardest for me to set aside. But yes, they are here too. Kaiden’s parents and uncles as well.” He glanced at Nate. “I assume that’s Jacob’s handiwork?” There were other medical professionals, but as a completely biased an interested party, Jacob was the one that Ezekiel preferred as well.

Alex looked at Ezekiel and smiled a little bit. “What can I say? I was young and not as.. set in our ways I guess.” Alex admitted as he sat there. “I knew that name sounded familiar and he looked so familiar. Yes that would be Jacob’s handiwork.” Alex said as he looked at Nate. Until his partner woke up, he’d still have this nervousness in himself, this pain. Kaiden smiled softly as he looked at Alex. “I um I missed you brother. And once things get sorted, I’d like to really catch up because I’m not sure I can focus on that right now.” Alex said, rubbing the back of Nate’s hand. ​

To that, he could most firmly agree. “I have missed you as well. It is not the same without you. This life was far better with you in it. I am glad that you can be here now.” He looked towards the walls of the tent like he might be looking outside. “Perhaps later, when things are settled, we can talk about everything that has happened in the time apart. I can show you around?” He smiled at Kaiden. He never really thought this day would come. Nate, still asleep, began to stir. First his arms moved a little and then his head. It would be another few minutes, but he was beginning to wake up.

Alex smiled, hearing that. “I’m glad I’m here now as well. And as for showing me around? I’d appreciate that. Though would you be opposed to having Nate join us? Kaiden can come too.” Alex said before his words stopped and he looked at Nate. He saw his arms move, a little bit and then his head a little bit. All of Alex’s attention was on his partner now. Kaiden smiled at Ezekiel back, squeezing his hand gently and looking at their brother. Seeing that love and worry etched on his face.​

“Of course he can come. He is yours. I would love to get to know him as well.” Ezekiel watched as his brother waited for Nate to wake. It was a bit exciting really. Someone new to meet. Ezekiel wasn’t much for new and additional people, but for Alex, he could make an exception. He got used to Theo, so whoever Alex brought could not possibly be more to handle than that. Nate scrunched his face together as he began to writhe more. The arm with the cast moved up, but finding that difficult, he swapped to the other hand that he brought up to his face. Shielding him from the light. He let one small, pitiful little moan. He kept his eyes closed, still not quite awake. Honestly, he didn’t know what was going on.

Hearing his brother say he wanted to get to know Nate made him so happy. Alex turned to look at Nate, seeing his face scrunched up. And he saw that arm with the cast go to move and then the other hand moved, going over his eyes. His heart hurt hearing that small pitiful moan. “Hey baby.” Alex whispered, leaning in a little more. “Wake up.” He added, running his hand in gentle circles on Nate’s shoulder.​
