Taking Flight [Inactive]

"She thought I was an ordinary bird, as I am so small bird", he said with a slight smile, leaning a bit against her. Small talk helped his anxiety.

"I didn't want to make her sad and I came to explain it to her", he said, still a small smile upon his lips.

Ali nodded as Logan spoke. "Well i think I'm gonna go inside," she yawned and stretched, "do you want to come in, Logan?"

"You're welcome," Ali grinned. "I just want to give you the help I never got," she sighs and walks into the cave.

"Mhm," Ali smiled as she turned in Logan's direction, "are you gonna be alright? With the nightmares and stuff?"

"y-yeah.. It happens often", he said with an embarassed smile. "I'm still deeply sorry about scaring you."

Logan looked down sadly, looking like he would burst in tears soon but he handled himself. "Yeah I know.. I

apology too much."

"C'mere, Logan, you can sleep next to me," Ali smiled as she lied down, her wings arching over her in the shape of a dome.

"Thank you. I think I will only rest", he said as he moved closer at her. "How lucky I am.. Next to a pretty lady."

"Haha, I'm not that good looking. Celeste is way more beautiful, trust me," Ali laughed and blushed lightly at Logan's words, they weren't true anyway.

"beauty is in the eye of beholder. I prefer you more", he said with a smile. "I prefer you more.", he said, leaning on his pale arms

"Logan, there's a lot wrong with that. You don't like me OK, not me," Ali was lost, she was tripping over words and what to say.

Logan frowned at him. "Umm.. Why?", he asked, overwhelmed. "I just wanted to say a compliment, nothing personal."

"Right, right. Sorry I just- haha umm," Ali didn't know what to say. The conversation was getting awkward and Ali was trapped.

Logan smiled a bit awkwarly too. "I didn't mean to make you feel awkward or sort of.. I'm sorry. Again", he said with sigh. "Damn, I always get in a 'i'm sorry'-situations."

Kio watched from a distance, trying to stifle his laughter at the awkward situation. Kio walked over and sat next to the still unconscious Maeve. Kio was really worried for her but he didn't really know why. Eventually after many hours of lying awake, he fell asleep, next to the unconscious body of Maeve.

It was a restless sleep, and she squirmed and groaned in the midst of it.

A hazy night, bogged down by fog. Her brother stood at the top of the wall, his crossbow drawn. He smiled at her, told her he would take care of everything.

A scream.

And everything erupted into Chaos. The sound of fire, the smell of burning flesh.

A company of angels covered the moon as they rained down death upon the populace. Then she and her brother were running, hand in hand, a writhing crowd all around them. But young Maeve squeezed her brother's hand and she felt safe.

Her hand was squeezing air.

The flapping of wings as her brother was taken from her, screaming, the angel flying higher and higher.

And then she saw his body, fractured bones, broken blood, the rib cage split open, his face deformed and crushed.

But she knew his hand. And she held it.

Ali awoke a few hours later and looked down at Logan beside her, wondering what his nightmare was about. She stood and stretched and slowly made her way outside.

The cool breeze hit Ali's cheeks as she stepped outside and took her place on the ground next to the cave entrance.

Logan felt Ali's moving, nudging his head a bit towards her. He saw her thoughtful face, and got up to sit with his thin arms. "You seem puzzled. Is it about the dream?..", he asked quietly.

"Yeah," Ali sighed and nodded, her elbows on her knees and her chin resting on her fist.

"I just want to know. But you don't have to tell me," she smiled.
