"If I don't make it back then you guys had better give these packs hell."

William nodded. "Count on it. But I expect you to be with us when we do, understand?" He didn't want Chase taking any unnecessary risks... well, more than he already was. He considered advising him to split the moment he began to feel as if he'd overstayed his welcome or the Pack was onto him, but decided against it. Chase already knew that. He'd slipped through their grasp once, he could do it again.

As they pulled up to the GPS coordinates, Will felt his cellphone buzz in his pocket. He ignored it for now, steering onto the side of the road and bringing the SUV to a stop. He offered his hand to Chase, looking him in the eye. "Good luck. I'll see you soon."

With how William ordered him to be there when it happened Chase put two fingers up in a sarcastic mock salute, "Yes sir." Though afterwards when the hand was offered Chase took it firmly, "Don't let Vitae get destroyed in the meantime alright?" He mused then released Will's hand and reaching up to point out the driver side window at a tree further into the treeline near the entrance to the old campsite. "Look for me there once I've made sure the area is clear. If I'm not back in five minutes after I shift then just leave."

With the bag in his hand Chase slipped out of the vehicle and around the back side of it heading towards that exact tree, his nose already taking in the surrounding smells. Once behind said tree and away from any prying eyes he'd strip away his clothes and shove them into the bag. Crouching he'd slowly shift into his wolf form, reach down and clamp onto the duffel-bag with his maw then step out from behind the tree. The wolf would look in the vehicle's direction, eyeing Will through the window momentarily from afar. Mostly so that Will could get a look at his wolf form and hopefully recognize it should the need ever arise.

After the moment he'd turn and start jogging away before speeding up into a run. Chase wanted to be sure no other wolves were nearby, mostly to be sure none were going to follow Will back. So he did a full large sweeping circle around the area they'd stopped at. But he got nothing. And despite the fact that both instances with these packs they'd fooled him he was sure to be thorough to prevent that happening a third time. Once he was satisfied there was nothing else going on he returned to the earlier tree momentarily so Will would know the coast was clear before leaving for good. Sprinting off deeper into the wooded area before changing direction and heading towards the packs territory, it was going to be a long run.

William nodded his understanding as Chase stepped out of the vehicle, rounding the back of it and slipping into the trees and disappearing from view. Will didn't have to wait long before he emerged again, though this time in his wolf form. There was something almost comically anachronistic about a large wolf standing there, a bag hanging from his jaws. Will watched him, taking note of his size, the distinct color and markings on his pelt, and the tint of his eyes and committing them to memory. If it came down to it, he didn't want to risk putting a silver bullet into a shapeshifted Chase during one of their future clandestine meetings or the Pack's assault on Vitae.

Chase once again disappeared from view, this time for much longer. Will scanned the surrounding treeline while he waited, shifting uncomfortably in his seat. He knew Chase would have warned him if he detected a potential ambush at the drop-off, but the knowledge didn't put him any more at ease. Finally, Chase appeared again in the same spot as before. Will made eye contact with him, nodding once before shifting the SUV into drive and making a U-turn to head back toward Vitae.

William drove approximately halfway back before once again pulling off. The nearest bus station was considerably farther than the drop-off -- returning without Chase so quickly would no catch Bart's attention in the wrong way. Knowing he had to burn some time, Will fished his cellphone out to see the missed text:

This is Mac's new phone. When you get a chance download this app and track code name Runaway.
-xo Ash
William grinned at the message. He had no doubt the phone Ashley was holding was the smartphone from Franklin's bag. He had seen the look of disdain Mac had given the device before tossing it carelessly aside. Convincing her to carry it -- much less use it -- would be a chore, but one he was committed to help with. It was a subject he'd been wanting to bring up with Mac, but other matters had taken precedence. He was glad to see that Ash had taken the initiative. He sent a quick message back to her: Will do. You're a mastermind.

Doing as he was told, William downloaded the app and set up an account. Amusingly, it was meant more for overprotective parents to track their childrens' whereabouts. That was fine by him, though he was sure Mac might think differently. With a shake of his head, Will steered back onto the road and continued on the way to Vitae.

Will do. You're a mastermind.

Ashley-May smirked seeing William’s reply. Now it was just the difficult task of getting Mac to hold onto the phone. Besides the ancient phone she managed to keep, somewhere in her car, Ash had seen Mac lose or destroy eight other phones in their hunting lifetime together. At least now she knew there was a way she could manipulate Mac into keeping and taking care of it. She packed up the various articles of clothing, including the leather bag, back into the duffel she had been pillaging. Quickly, she deleted the text message evidence as she heard Mac turn the shower off.

She didn’t have to wait long before Mac emerged from the bathroom, changed into the clothing Ash knew she wore when she was planning on working on her car. She held the device out to her partner and received the disgusted look she expected. “I put Will’s contacts in it.” She watched as Macs expression change, slowly softening, so she continued to press, “He’ll want you to keep it on you, so he can get a hold of you whenever.” She didn't move her arm from where it was extended, waiting for Mac's reaction. There was a point where she was uncertain if Mac would buy into it, not hearing it from Will directly, but she watched Mac look at the phone before snatching it out of her hand with what only could be described as a growl.

Ashely-May did her best to keep her satisfied smile hidden, it would do no good to gloat in this victory. She stood from the couch and stepped closer to the shorter hunter. “I’m heading to bed for the night, got an early morning.” She didn’t want to tell Mac about her mission in the morning, knowing it would only result in a fight. Mac still glowered at her but she leaned in and kissed the top of her head. “Say goodnight to Will for me.”

Mackenzie continued to glare at her manipulative perky partner as she very nearly skipped down the hall to their shared room. She glanced at the phone once more, seriously considering ‘losing' it as she had the others but the thought that Will may actually try and call her made her slip the phone into her back pocket. She knew she was never good with the newer models of phones, something about the touch screen just didn't work for her half the time, and she was rarely able to find the damned dial pad. At the very least if Will did call she should get prompted on how to answer, right?

She headed out of the house intent on finding her car, it had been days since it had last been run which in itself was a rather dangerous game. If the beast didn't at the very least get it's engine turned over once a day it was a high risk of it seizing. Not to mention not getting it out on the road for a long ride made the risk even higher. She made her way across the quiet colony, most people in bed by now really only those remaining out where the night guards keeping out a watchful eye. She knew there wasn't a chance she was going to rest until she knew Will was back within the walls and safe from the pack, despite both men clearly having a great luck with the werewolf pack of the past few days, she wouldn't put it past them to simply be lulling them into complacently.

Near the lot at the front gate she found her car, exactly where it had been left when the angel had teleported her and Eli back to the colony. She slipped in the front seat and inserted the key. Closing her eyes she whispered a prayer to whatever god controlled the fate of cars and turned. The beast whined, three, four, five time before she released the key with a hiss. She knew if she pressed this too hard she risked flooding the engine. Pressing on the clutch and pumping the gas pedal a few time she attempted again. Once more it whined before roaring into life. She exhaled with satisfaction, though she could already tell it needed work. The timing was off, giving the car a little shake every so often; not something to be too concerned about, but if left unchecked could be disastrous down the road.

Dropping the car into gear she let it creep down the road back towards the house, she would need to take it out for a run tomorrow, hopefully she could break loose of the colony long enough to do it.

Chase was huffing as he ran through the wilderness, he knew the general direction he needed to get to where he'd hunted before. The bag was an awkward addition and it was causing his mouth to dry more than usual at this pace. Currently he was questioning how he was going to contact the pack. Sure, he'd been given permission to hunt within their borders so he didn't expect to be attacked, didn't mean he wasn't on full alert though.

The first hint he was in the right area was the sudden scent of a trail the pack clearly used, many of their scents littered it, though Emile's was the strongest. That was the thing with Alpha scents is that they overpowered the others, Will's had done it in the car even though he wasn't actually a wolf. Eventually he came to an open field, one with trees on all sides but it was flat and open for a few miles. Howling might work, though if they were as efficient as he assumed then the pack would be alerted to his presence rather quickly once he arrived. While they could assume he was simply there to hunt again it was still the same day so it wasn't likely.

For the time being he kept on the move following the trail until he came upon the stream from earlier today, though he was a bit further downstream from where he'd used it before. Chase dropped the bag on the bank and reached his head down for a quick drink to quench his thirst from all of the running. Afterwards he bit the bag once more finding enough purchase to keep from dropping it while he ran and continued onward.

Nothing within their territory was missed for long by the pack, they were long time partners in the hunt, and very little ever slipped past their sight. Chase's first encounter with the 'pack' had been an embarrassment on their end, while those he had dealt with were not part of Courir de nuit, they had been associated with them at the very least. They knew Emile, their Alpha, had dealt with the sister pack accordingly; whilst Courir de nuit may be visiting their territory, hunting on the other packs land, they still were the dominant pack. Emile had expressed his displeasure with what had happened: firstly that they had openly attacked Chase was a disgrace. They were all wolves, and regardless of where he may have been from, he should have been respected as once. Second to that Emile had made it clear that none of the colony were to be killed, he wanted them alive. Dead hunters could not join the cause, join his pack.

Since then the pack had spent their time driving off any other interlopers, the other packs had been dismissed, Emile no longer trusting them to obey his word. With this additional wariness brought on additional information. Shortly after Chase had returned to their territory he was being followed, as he had been just earlier that day, keeping their distance they relayed the information to their Alpha; they were still on edge from the early morning hunt. No blood had been drawn, the hunter-wolf had been allowed the pass freely. Despite their displeasure they obeyed and followed until they received direction.

tP9BSlO.jpg
tP9BSlO.jpg

Annoyed and displeased with the days events, Brody had sought the company of none. He had wanted to kill the Colony-Alpha wolf, forcing him to obey and comply. Chase the chosen hunter from the colony for hours, even nearly losing his eye in the process, and for nothing. There had been no kill, no glory, just being manipulated like a dog. Worse yet, he had later found out that Malcolm had not only found the Alpha Wolf but had assisted him back to the colony! The false wolf that had been near Skye, the false wolf that had severely injured Douglas. He was disgusted by this.

Only hours after that Emile had met with a hunter-wolf, and once more no blood was split, the hunter had been returned to safety and given permission to hunt within their territory. He understood Emile's want to bolster his ranks, increase his number. He too had heard the Seer's Prophecy, he knew they would need most of them to survive the coming days, but certainly a few dead wouldn't effect them so greatly.

When he 'heard' that the hunter-wolf had returned to the forest, carrying a pack no less, he could not stop himself from tracking down his scent. If he could get to the wolf before Emile had been notified, he could kill him and feign ignorance. He was soon and Chase's trail, following him to where he had paused at the stream, crossing it and pick up his trail on the other side. He was being careless, noisy even, but he had nothing to fear of the smaller wolf. Given Chase had been weighted down carrying the pack he was easy to catch up on. Having the other wolf within sight he gave a low growl before digging his paws into the soft dirt and dashing after the smaller wolf.

MpgfkeU.jpg

Morgan had been aware of Chase's return to the woods, had followed along behind the wolf as he traversed the forest. She wanted nothing more than to chase him off, or possibly chase him towards the pack's temporary home, but after the lecture she had received from Emile post Chase meeting, she wasn't willing to cross the Alpha a second time. While it had been great fun, dashing out behind Chase and nipping at his heels as they had herded him towards the Alpha, she was on thin ice so far as Emile was concerned.

Reluctantly, as close to sulking as a wolf could get, she continued to follow Chase through the ever denser woods as he was clearly following the Alpha's scent home. Not far beyond the stream she became aware of Brody's approach; she hadn't thought the Guardian would have bothered with Chase given his current temperament towards all hunters, but when his stance changed and his hackles raised she understood his intent all too clear.

As Brody made a dash for Chase she broke from the undergrowth and collided into Brody's path, the two wolves grappled for purchase and she drove him into the bushes on the other side of the trail. She scrambled for freedom, wanting to get away from the much larger wolf while he was still dazed: he was a fighter, there was no doubt, but she was far more nimble. Freed from him she was back on the trail, within sight of Chase, though she turned to face Brody, waiting to see if he would come at the other wolf again, knowing she was there too.

William rolled up to the gate before coming to a stop, waiting as one of the gate guards descending from the wall and approached his window. Bart was nowhere to be seen, which wasn't surprising. The man's shift had likely ended. After seeing who was at the wheel, the guard gave William a wave before signaling for the gate to be opened. Will returned the wave, accelerating slowly through the gate and steering the SUV back towards the barracks. He parked it behind the building, being sure to grab his bag and lock the vehicle up securely before taking the keys with him. He'd return them to Joe later, once the man was cooled down.

William traveled back to the house on foot, the bag slung across his shoulders. As he approached, he saw Mac's old Ford, moved from it previous position by the gate, and headed toward it. It had hit him that he'd forgotten to text her on his way back after being distracted; hopefully she was in a forgiving mood.

Chase caught the other wolf's scent even before he heard it's movements, clearly whoever it was didn't care if they were known with no attempt to stay downwind. This had caused Chase to slow his pace as he eyed his surroundings for any hints of other wolves, momentarily wondering if this was going to be a re-occurrence of last time where he'd be corralled to the Alpha. Something he wasn't particularly fond of but if it got him where he needed to be then he'd play along.

This idea that it may be the case became a clear no when the wolf started getting closer and a growl came from behind Chase. He dropped the bag before whirling around, baring his fangs at the large wolf who was charging his direction. Chase instantly recollected this as the same wolf that had seemingly challenged Emile's orders at their meeting, Emile had even felt the need to step between Chase and this wolf. Which meant this wouldn't go well no matter who came out on top, but Chase wasn't running or backing down.

But before the black wolf even got close enough he was suddenly sideswiped by another, the two barreling out of sigh and causing Chase's growl to lessen in confusion. This would had done the opposite of the black one as far as staying quiet and hidden went and Chase had no clue it had been nearby. Seconds passed before the calico colored wolf emerged, and when Chase caught it's scent he realized it was a female. She turned her back on him and faced the area where he presumed she'd left the black wolf.

Chase's snarled lip receded whilst they waited though his low growling remained, expecting that to not be the end of it. Despite the females intent he was still wary of her, but his concentration was on the other wolfs location.

With her car parked in the driveway she let it run, hoping the timing issue would resolve itself. The seat, floor and ceiling were still caked in blood: hers and the blood of the wolf Will had killed the first night at the colony. She had wanted to do this sooner but between everything that had happened there just hadn’t been time. With the coming lunar cycle and no missions on the horizon, she hoped she would have the time to restore her beast to its former glory. At the bed of the truck she pulled her tool box free and brought it to the driver’s side door. She found the appropriate wrench socket size and started working on the bolts that held down the bench seat.

Typically this task would only be successful with a torque wrench, but she’d done this before, she was certainly not new to this rodeo. After a few minutes of work she had the bench freed and dragged out on the pavement next to the car. She turned to head to the bed of her car once more, to get the cleaning products she had pilfered from the house just days before when she caught sight of Will wandering up to the house. She reached into the car and turned it off before moving to lean against the side with a slow smile. “Hey stranger.”

tP9BSlO.jpg

Brody had been blindsided, completely caught off guard by the female’s attack. Into the brush the wind had been knocked out of him and he was momentarily dazed. He had been aware of her and other pack members within the area, following the hunter-wolf as he followed the path to their den, their temporary home. He knew killing Chase would have witnesses, but he didn’t care. He had not accounted for any of the other members stopping him, however. He knew they all wanted blood, wanted the kill they had been denied twice in twenty-four hours. Coming free from his daze he just managed to bite the female as she slipped from his grasp; not enough to serious injure her as she fled back to the trail.

He pulled himself from the underbrush and made his way back to the trail to see the female, he now recognized as one of Emile’s blood –his niece no less, and the hunter-wolf standing together. He continued to growl lowly. He knew he could take Morgan, and had a good possibility of at least severely injuring Chase but he could now sense the other members nearby stalking closer; they too could smell pack blood spilt and they would not tolerate any more. He huffed, giving up his pursuit for the time being, deciding he would have better opportunity later.

MpgfkeU.jpg

Morgan waited for Brody to leave, and then some time after that, before she lowered her stance. Muscles relaxed as she turned to face Chase, ears perked forward, her maw open and tongue lolling to one side. Her shoulder ached where Brody had bitten her, but she would heal quickly enough. As curious as she was about the would be wolf, she didn’t dare approach him further than she already had, she could feel the tension radiating off of him, smell the nervousness. Instead she took an arching path around him towards his discarded pack, wanting to know more, she sniffed at it. It had been with Chase at the colony and provided a great deal of various scents from where he had come. Mostly the colony, the humans that lived there, of course Chase himself, it also smelt of the false Alpha Douglas had spoken of from the night before, that was a little worry some, but Malcolm and a laid the packs fears of another Alpha challenging Emile; he had been a creation of a god.

The most predominant scent she got from his pack and clothing was chemical, it irradiated everything, his cloths, the bag and himself. The human need for chemical items confused her entirely; she knew humans had a poor sense of smell but whatever possessed men and women to douse themselves in fake scents was beyond her understanding. It burned at her senses, made her eyes water until she sneezed, clearing the scent she shook her head and moved away from his pack. She had no way of communicating with him, he wasn’t part of the pack, but she moved back down the trail he was already headed previously, turning to glance his direction and wait.

William approached slowly, returning the smile. "Hey you. We made the drop-off; Chase confirmed we were all clear before I left."

His eyes flicked to the bench seat laying in the ground alongside the vehicle, dried blood still plainly visible. He felt a shiver run down his spine as his ears rang at the memory of the gunshot he'd fired inside the enclosed space.

He crossed his arms. "Trying to get the beast back in fighting shape?" He looked up to give Mac a faux grave look, "I hope you're not planning on running away from me again," he teased.

52b1b178f203.jpg
Chase eyed the black wolf as he moved back onto the path, hesitant to continue his assault before leaving. Afterwards both Chase and the female relaxed some, but he was still on edge about all of this. When the female faced him Chase could smell the coppery scent of blood, she clearly hadn't come out of that unscathed. Despite her rather calmed and slightly friendly demeanor Chase decided for the time being he'd keep his distance until they could at least communicate. He'd watched her move towards his back sniffing at it, she looked curious but he wasn't sure if she was checking for weapons or not. When she sneezed he couldn't help but be amused.

Once she'd left the pack he moved closer and clamped onto it once again hefting it off the ground. A quick glance behind him in the direction the male wolf had left, ears listening, before he turned to follow after the patient female. At least he knew he'd been on the right path to begin with. For now though he kept his distance, trudging a good fifteen feet behind her but letting her lead the way.

Mackenzie blinked at the comment, the teasing suggestion that she might run again, smile remained but an embarrassed flush joined it on her features, "I ..." She didn't know what to say; the recalled how angry he had been the other day, he had ignored her! She hadn't been prepared for the question to come up once more, given he had every opportunity to bring it up in the house they had spent together today. She bit her lip and slowly shook her head. "No." She knew he had been teasing her, it was playful, but there was always a tone of serious in any jest.

She watched him a moment before speaking again. "But you can grab the cleaner and rags from the back and start taking the wolf brains off the roof." She had certainly not forgotten the man had contributed to the cars defacement, though she would have done the same thing given the situation, it would not stop her from returning the playful tease."

MpgfkeU.jpg

Seeing Chase follow behind her once he had collected this bag she continued down the game trail that would lead them both to the current den. She no longer bothered with being quiet: there was no game between here and the den to hunt that was worth the effort, too much wolf scent sent anything larger than a hare running the opposite direction. The only things that wandered this close were mice and squirrels: the former only pups hunted, the latter were just annoying to even try for. The other pack members near by continued to follow within the dense forest, though more noisily than before, every so often she would catch a glimpse of one near the edge of the trail, face and eyes wanting to see the colony-wolf in person.

Her shoulder ached where Brody had caught her, the wound was far from deep, hardly more than a scrape with some missing fur but the other wolfs bite was strong. She certainly did not regret intervening in the fight. If she had let it be Emile would have pursued his previous threat of sending her home. She certainly did not want to return to the north, this had been and adventure for her, and those still at the den were mothers, the sick and then elderly.

Chase had not been far from the den, within the hour they arrived at a campsite that had long since been abandoned by humans, the undergrowth was creeping inwards, reclaiming what had been destroyed. Malcolm stood within the clearing, in his human from -dress, waiting for the two to arrive. She slowed her pace as she approached the Beta, head lowing respectfully she came to a stop just a few feet before him and waited. She knew better than to disrespect the man, regardless of his origin; she had seen the results of disobedience when others had done so themselves. The slightest flick of his hand would be the only indicator she was dismissed and she would not stay long enough to be told a second time. Once more she was off, faster pace than she had been, taking a wide berth around the Beta and disappearing further down the game trail behind him.

x9n23ag.jpg

Malcolm had been waiting a short while for Morgan and Chase to arrive. He had been alerted to Chase's presence when the rest of the pack, including Emile had been when he first arrive, then once more that Brody had been stalking the hunter, his intent clear enough. Emile had already left the den to track down Brody and deal with the rebellious wolf; this was an on going issue and Emile would tolerate it no longer. He was rather surprised to hear that Morgan had came to his defense, even prevented a fight between the two, but he imagined it was to get back into the good graces of the Alpha more than to help the hunter.

He waited until Morgan was a fair distance behind him, closer to the remainder of the pack, before he addressed Chase. "You can change here," He said, nodding towards a thicket of woods, clearly there had once been something there that prevented the forest from reclaiming it, leaving a small private alcove. "I'll wait." He knew by the pack the wolf had carried he intended on staying, that he was accepting the offer put forward from Emile earlier that day. He was suspicious of it, given how quickly he had gone from one end to another, but it was not his place to question the hunter, only to remain cautious of him and keep his Alpha and the pack protected.

Chase followed the female down the trail, aware of the wolves in the vicinity but at least this time they weren't chasing him. Occasionally he'd catch sight of one risking a glance through the brush. The closer they got to the location the stronger the packs scents got to no surprise. When Chase saw that they were living in a lost and abandoned campsite he wasn't particularly surprised, it was a good place to stay low.

He spotted the one he'd assumed the Beta from their last encounter waiting just ahead. Chase watched awkwardly as the female bowed her head before moving off and out of sight. It was something that was going to take some getting used to for him, doing these things that are second nature to the rest of the pack. The older man waited before he pointed Chase to a place shift and change. Still he couldn't tell if allowing him to change in privacy was a normal thing for everyone or if it was just because they understood Chase wasn't used to it. Either way he veered into the small alcove and shifted, unzipping the bag and pulling on some clothes.

Once dressed he stepped back out with the duffel-bag hanging over his shoulder. "Nice welcoming committee you guys have." He spoke sarcastically as he walked back towards Malcolm."And I'm hoping that earlier offer still stands."

William -- seeing the way Mackenzie tensed up at his comment -- considered taking it back. He had meant it in jest, but he shouldn't be surprised that the hurt that had come with that situation would still be there. However, when Mac finally spoke up and gave him a "mission" in cleaning the Beast's interior, Will knew he hadn't overstepped. He glanced toward the inside of the vehicle with a grimace before turning back to Mac and giving her a mock salute. "Yes, ma'am," he said with a smile.

It's only fair. I did put them there.

No matter the rationalization, the task didn't get any cleaner or less tedious. The blood and brain matter had had several days to settle and dry... this was going to be a handful. With an exaggerated sigh, he stripped off the button-down shirt he was wearing over his tee, balling it up and tossing it at Mac playfully. Walking over to he bed, he gathered up the cleaning supplies -- which he was sure had been residing elsewhere not too long ago -- and went to kneel down at the driver's side, wetting a rag getting to work on scrubbing clean the dried blood, brains, and bone fragments from the hard surfaces first.

"You know," he called out over his shoulder, "I think this is gonna have to go on your tab. You're not paid up just yet."

dx0HE3H.jpg

Mackenzie laughed catching his shirt and shaking her head at his mock salute. She had her own work to do, setting aside his shit she went over to the bench seat and tipped it over, so the bottom was facing upwards. Removing the knife from her belt, she started tracing the blade along the seams carefully cutting away the material from the staples that held the leather cover down. She glanced towards him with a grin, "Oh, don't you worry, I'm good for it." She continued her blade work until the seat cover was free and peeled it back from the seat itself in one long piece. Inspecting the seat cushioning, she was surprised to find it unmarred. Given the amount of blood that had been lost on the leather upholstery she would have thought the padding would have to be replaced too.

She went to the bed of the car and dragged out the replacement textile, it was similar in color to what had been there; of course the original had long since been replaced many many years ago, but the new leather cover for the seat would still match the remainder of the interior. She rolled the material, leather side up, along the paving stone before grabbing the destroyed version and setting it out on top: a perfect pattern.

"We should have made Ash come out here and help, she had a lot to do with this too."

Malcolm smirked hearing the colony wolf's sassy remarks, he gave a little chuckle before replying. "If you're going to be part of the pack, you'll have to toughen up." His statement was only a partial jest, but there would be plenty of time for Chase to learn what it was to be a wolf. He turned and started walking with Chase the way Morgan had gone just a few minutes ago, the pace casual; there was no hurry in his movements. This was Chase's first sight of the pack's temporary home, not the full pack in its glory, but just the hunting party. "Emile wanted you to have a tour while he's busy, but yes, the offer still stands." Through the forest trail a few meters it opened up into the remainder of the camping grounds. Where the site they had just been had been overgrown by forest the rest had been tended too. Grass, plants and wild growth still grew naturally, the pack didn't like destroying their home, there were clear paths that had been trodden down from over use.

The camp site was filled with tents, lean to's and trailers, though very few vehicles would actually be seen, the ones that were there were always accompanied by a trailer. "The rest of the Pack is home," he hesitated a second. "at Borseti, here we only have our pack hunters and the Guardians." He continued down the pathway, around the others were there in both human and wolf form, though most of the tents and lean to's were unoccupied, there were at least forty wolves in the direct area, that could be seen. "Most of us spend the days scouting and roaming, we don't like to stay like this, like a human. At least those that are purebred are almost always seen as a wolf." He glanced to Chase. "Emile, for example, and Morgan -whom you met today. Those of us that were turned, well." He shrugged. "It's skin I was born in, it's natural for me."

As they moved along the camp site, passing others about their business Malcolm wouldn't pause, and none would interrupt him. The humans that were within the camp site only glanced at Chase in passing, mostly uninterested in the colony wolf, though the wolves seemed far more curious. Malcolm lead him to the end of the long pathway to a cabin, "We all hunt our own meals, no communal thing here, but there is food inside if you want it. I wouldn't recommend wandering too far from the cabin itself, but I won't be far if there's any more trouble." He didn't expect any to come this way, but he wouldn't leave Chase believing he would be safe enough to roam. "You'll learn." He said after a moment. "I know you were never human, but you lived among them. Hell you called yourself one earlier today, but you'll see. It's.... different, with the wolves." He paused and chuckled again. "Word to the wise: They don't really understand personal space. That's purely a human thing."

He walked up the steps to the cabin and took a seat on a wooden chair, Chase had the option to retreat inside or remain outdoors until Emile was present.

William frowned, glancing toward the house. "Where is Ash, anyway?" He couldn't imagine Mac letting her slide on vehicle maintenance duties.

As he spoke, Will continued to scrub away at the caked-on viscera that seemed to have sprayed to every inch of the Beast's interior. It seemed that he had been correct in his first conversation with Mackenzie days ago: there were no bullet holes that needed patching. His round had found its mark without passing through the wolf's cranium to damage the Mainline. Small miracles, was all Hendrix could think as he continued the laborious task. It wasn't long before one washrag was completely soiled, prompting him to reach for another. Still, he was making progress -- slowly but surely, the ceiling was being wiped clean... well, cleanish.

Chase rolled his eyes at Malcolm's follow-up remark, despite the sarcasm he knew the Beta and many others would see him as the foreign weakling. He followed Malcolm as the other man gave him the tour, he took in the sights and smells. The amount of wolves, in both forms, that they passed was more than he expected in one area. Twice as many as he estimated chased him through the forest this morning, and by the sounds of it many were still in the forest. Chase hesitantly estimated sixty plus wolves here currently. He found himself walking on auto-pilot whilst looking at them nearly in awe, just seeing how they lived even if it was an outpost of sorts. Roaming about in both wolf form and human alike, with no fear or restraints. The largest pack he and Joe had ever crossed numbered at nine, so this? This left him speechless.

When the Beta mentioned that there were even more not around, but the biggest shock was that they were at Borseti. Chase had no clue they'd literally laid claim to the colony. Afterwards the older man mentioned the preference of which form to take, "I was born a pure-blood, but I choose this form same as you." Though he was sure the Beta would chalk that up to the fact that Chase hid in his human form for most of his life as the reason why. And to be honest Chase might agree with him, because it wasn't really a choice before.

Once at the cabin he listened to the explanation on food, and momentarily wondered how they hadn't cleared the surrounding area of it's game by now with these numbers. Soon after the Beta entered the cabin, clearly allowing Chase to do as he pleased for the most part. There was only one glance around before he followed after the man, "Should I be expecting trouble?" Chase wasn't expecting a happy-go-lucky pack to welcome him, the colony wolf, but he hadn't expected second-guessing his decision to leave the silver bullets back at Vitae.

He noted the fact that the only scent inside the cabin was Emile's, as well as Malcolm's, and for a moment he wondered if he'd overstepped but pushed through to something that was bothering him and he was genuinely curious. "Why is it you don't consider yourself a human? I mean maybe those who were born a Wolf say it but you were turned right? So what is it, you consider your human half burned away despite it still being half of who you are?" It was confusing to Chase, he considered himself both human and werewolf. And hearing someone who'd lived as a human before being a Werewolf refer to himself as not human left him at a loss. Chase decided to continue standing, simply looking at the seated Beta. "I called myself a human because that's part of who I am, despite the fact that I lived as one."

"The name's Chase by the way, which I'm pretty sure you already know. But you've yet to give yours." The Beta hadn't introduced himself at either meeting thus far, whether on purpose or accident was yet to be seen.

“Sleeping Beauty is already in bed,” Mackenzie commented lightly. “She said she has an early day tomorrow.” Though Mac could fathom what would need Ashley’s attention at the clinic so early; she wasn’t really one to second guess her partner. Having laid out the ruined material over the new, she knelt in its center and started to trace the blade long the edges, leaving an inch or so space around the edge, just in case. Once this was done, and she had her new piece she discarded the left over and destroyed version into the bed of the car: when everything was done she’d dispose of all the bloody remains at once.

She brought the new leather to the bench seat and laid it over the padding, tucking and folding until it looked right before moving back to the car, and where she had left the tool box. While closer to Will she took the opportunity to glance in at his work. It was going far better than she assumed it would have, but there was no need to tell him that. “Looks like that tab won’t be very high….” She leaned in to give his cheek a playful kiss before turning to root around in the tool box looking for her staple gun.

“Ah, yes. Sorry. Malcolm Cannonach. Another human idiosyncrasy. Wolves don’t need names to know who they are speaking to, you’ll have to ask others for their names going forward, if you want them. Be mindful, not all the wolves here have human names.” He extending his hand in greeting for Chase to take; though he wouldn’t be offended if the other man refused it, he was still on edge it was clear by his stance. Malcolm was not surprised that Chase did not react to his mentioning of Borseti, he didn’t think the Council or Elders of Vitae had informed their inhabitants of everything that was transpiring. Emile had been very specific to those from Borseti, those turned that they were not to discuss Skye with Chase, however he did hope the mention of his last name might stir the younger man into speaking.

“I don’t expect you to have any trouble, not after Emile arrives at least, with the rest of the pack. For the moment you are not officially a member since our Alpha hasn’t welcomed you. While we all know his wishes there is a slight … grey area for the time being.” He shrugged but smiled a little. “You’ve been here less than an hour and already you’ve learned more about the pack and our ways than I did in my first week of joining them.” He paused, considering before speaking again. “The ‘welcome’ or lack thereof, you received is another wolf thing. It’s a human want to see smiling faces, and hellos and waves. You are walking and standing in wolf territory and not one of those outside in that camp ground stopped you. That is a welcome to a wolf.” He tilted his head aside, as though hearing something Chase could not. “Emile is on his way.”

William frowned, wondering what engagement Ashley had in the morning. Was she helping out at the Clinic? That seemed possible, with Elijah and the man Mac had interrogated both needing attention. The thought of Elijah sitting alone in his hospital room brought with it another pang of guilt, though he had little time to dwell on it before Mac spoke up and he felt her lips against his cheek.

Pushing the thoughts away, he smiled and replied in the same playful tone: "Well, in that case I may just have to work slower..."

Will tossed the second soiled rag away, looking over the state of the ceiling. It was by no means pristine -- some of his efforts seeming to have smeared the blood around rather than removing it -- but it was close. After a few more minutes, it would be good as new. His eyes flicked downward; the floorboards were another matter entirely.

Cannonach!? Chase stepped forwards and reached out to shake the mans hand. The last thing Chase wanted were surprises here, and both Will and Mac left out a very large and very vital piece of information. This whole time Chase had assumed the pack was singling out Mackenzie because she was the last standing survivor of Borseti and they wanted the perfect record. Never did he think it was because her family were among those turned, or more specifically that one was the Beta.

Deciding to stow that for the time being Chase focused on the fact that there was yet another Werewolf quirk he'd have to adjust to and had no knowledge of. Though the lack of smiling faces Malcolm mentioned wasn't the Welcome he'd referred to, "I'd meant the whole nearly getting into it with one of your wolves, until the female intervened." Chase shrugged his shoulders uncaring, as far as he was concerned that was over and done with unless the black wolf decided to have another go at him. Then Malcolm mentioned that Emile was on his way, which was a minor relief, though he'd noted that the older man had decided not to comment on the questions regarding their Human side.

This was a chance to possibly get in more with the Beta of the pack, and if he had to guess they already knew Chase had spoken to Mac so it wouldn't hurt to go the honest route like he'd planned. "I'm guessing that means you are related to Mackenzie then. Daughter? Niece?"

Mackenzie found what she was looking for and went back to the bench. She pulled the material tight around the bottom of it and started stapling it to the seats. Within a few minutes the work was done and she flipped it back over right side up to inspect. It wasn't perfect, but Mac certainly didn't mind: it would need to be replaced soon enough anyways without any doubt. With a sigh she turned back to Will's work, seeing he was nearly done the ceiling she picked up another set of rag and some cleaner before going around the passenger side of the car and starting to work on the floors there.

"So I was thinking, about Eli and the night the pack is going to attack." She started, looking over the sheer amount of blood caked to the floor was already a daunting task. She glanced to Will and continued. "We can't keep him here, if they break the lines and get in he's an easy target, but we would have to send him hours away to make sure they couldn't track him. We can't do that, if the man has an emergency sending him to the hospital will raise a lot of questions. She when I was in town with him the other day I saw there was a drive-in theater. Right in the middle of town." She smirked, starting to scrub at the floors, suddenly thankful her car did not have any sort of carpeting and the flooring was all metal.

"It's a Friday night, the place will be busy. We can send him there with Ashley: He'll have the medical help he needs, should he need it, but be close enough that we can get to him if we need to. Ashley's going to hate it, but I can't have her and you both here, and I know I can't get you to leave."

Malcolm was impressed Chase did take his hand in introduction, but he gave pause as he clarified the 'welcoming comity'. "As I said, right now you status is in a rather grey area, which Emile will solidify once he's here." He certainly was not going to apologize for the actions of another pack member. What Brody had done was defiant, without a doubt, but it was between Brody and Emile now; and Chase had been uninjured during the event.

The man continued on questioning if he were related to a Mackenzie which gave him a little start. "Short woman, about this tall," He held his hand to his chest to indicate her height. "Red hair and a vicious attitude?" He really didn't need Chase to confirm, he knew his daughter was with the colony after the night she had been attacked at Alliance. "That would be my daughter, except the last time I spoke with her her name was Skye." He gave a slow shake of his head. 'I never thought the girl would take up her mothers name, not after everything. Though that was over twenty years ago." He glanced to Chase as he was clearly rambling. "Apologizes. I'm assuming she doesn't know about your true identity, if she did you wouldn't be here. Is she well?" Now that Chase had brought it up, or been lead to it, he felt no issue with continuing with the topic, until Emile arrived at least.

Chase simply nodded at Malcolm's description of his daughter, matching up with Mackenzie. And if he'd known about this in the first place he might not have thrown her alias out so easily, this was on her more than anything. After the handshake Chase had taken his step back to where he'd stood originally, more or less out of the way of any doorways or paths. He watched as Malcolm processed the little information he'd just been given before asking if she was well. And for the moment Chase didn't see the Werewolf in front of him but a father simply asking about his daughter.

"As far as I could tell, we only spoke once or twice." Chase could only feign so much ignorance, but he'd certainly try. "She's certainly pissed and riled up about the packs going after Vitae." While Chase understood that not all parents and their children got along what more or less confused him was their relationship. Mac clearly wanted nothing to do with the pack or her father, but he couldn't help but wonder what Malcolm planned to do with Mac. It was hard to say how much influence Malcolm had as Beta, or whether he'd ask Emile to leave Vitae alone for his daughters sake. Or maybe he'd planned to turn her, take the colony but leave her be. It was hard to say.

Whatever his reasoning it gave Chase the opening to speak to the man on that same level, having family in the colony, a conversation he'd hoped to have with Emile but the opportunity had presented itself. "How does the pack view human family?" He asked cautiously. If Emile showed up then they'd likely have to continue later unless he heard the conversation while approaching and joined in.

William paused, looking over at Mackenzie as she worked away at the floorboards he cocked his head.. "A drive-in," he echoed evenly. Mulling it over, Will nodded. "It's a good idea. If the place is crowded enough, not even the Pack will risk making a run at them there. Hitting isolated Hunter colonies is different from running amok through a town." He sighed. "Elijah's going to hate it. He's not going to go along with it, I know... but I'll talk to him, make him see it our way. Can you handle Ash?"

Will went back to putting the finishing touches on the ceiling of the car. "You're right, by the way. You couldn't drag me out of here," he said without turning. "Truth be told, if I had it my way you'd be at that drive-in with them... but you and I both know you wouldn't go for it. Besides, as much as I hate to admit it, your connection as an Oracle is handy... and you know more about the Pack than anyone else in Vitae," he remarked somberly. It was nothing but the truth, but it was one he hated to acknowledge internally, much less out loud.

dx0HE3H.jpg

Mackenzie laughed at the suggestion that Will may have wanted her to be out of the colony, she was far too aware the feeling was mutual; neither of them wanted the other there. "I've got Ashley covered, she won't be an issue. We can't afford to lose any of the medical staff here, but Eli won't be able to be left unattended, she'll know it's the only way this will work." She glanced up from her work, tossing aside a ruined rag. "You'll need me here more than that. Franklin and the Nest will be here. He won't be friendly with you or Brendan, at least I might be able to sway him into behaving somewhat civilly." Though even she doubted it. She took up another rag and continued scrubbing at the floor once again.

"Since we're on the topic," She started, but didn't look away from her work. "I think we can use the Oracle thing to our advantage. Hypnos said it forces Supernatural beings to be compelled to protect me, right? Well what if we can get him to trigger it? Since there are multiple packs it might make them confused? Or, if we're lucky, fight against each other?" She was looking for anything that would give them an edge over the pack.

GiKY4Jh.jpg

Malcolm nodded hearing that so far as Chase knew she was well enough, but he laughed a little hearing him confess about her hatred for the pack. "Ah, well, that really isn't a surprise, what is shocking is that she's willingly put herself into another colony. I doubt she did it willingly, but at least she may have found someone." He glanced to Chase as he questioned human family and the pack. "Depends on the wolf and the human, honestly. There are plenty of wolves here who have human mates, though none of their children and human." It made him slightly curious, something he would mention to Emile later, that perhaps the human scent in the car earlier was a family member of his.

"As long as the human abides by pack law, there isn't any reason why they could not be part of our pack." It was the truth, though at this particular time there were no humans among the pack members that had come south. Malcolm knew he was not to question Chase, he was simply here to keep him company until Emile arrived. "Mackenzie," He said the name awkwardly, "is not welcome within the pack. She has killed too many of us and unless he submits to Emile willingly..." He already knew the girl would not turn over. It would be a cold day in hell before she allowed herself to be turned.

Chase had to admit that hearing that they allowed human mates and family into the pack, they seemed more of the Werewolf supremacist types. However it didn't answer what he needed to know, if someone wasn't willing to be a part of the pack would they be protected or considered a liability. Chase needed to know if they'd go after Joe but asking too much too soon might not look good so he decided to leave it be for the moment, he'd only just arrived, there'd be time.

It was clear that Mackenzie wasn't going to be a part of the pack with her track record, and the fact that Chase was sure she'd never agree. He eyed Malcolm carefully a moment wondering just what the man planned to do when the time came, he highly doubted the father would let his daughter perish at the packs hands. But Chase was going to fight to make sure that day didn't come, if his information could somehow prevent or hold off the attack then all the better but what mattered was that Vitae was prepared.

Chase didn't need to mention his opinion on the fact that she'd say no, Malcolm's face covered that he knew all too well. It was hard to dehumanize the man in his mind, despite the fact that he was here to give the colony an edge, and possibly kill the pack. But he'd been a hunter his whole life, and this was just another hunt, that's what he kept telling himself.

"I'm sure it'll work itself out." He stated simply before pacing away to look out the window for a moment.
