The dark image of her mother turned back into what she'd remembered as a girl, before she'd been killed.  It didn't change that she remember what had happened, what day this day was.  A moment later she was aware of the other presence, a man standing within her kitchen.  He seemed pleasant enough but she knew better, or at least she thought she did.  This was a reaper and she was dying.

Ever so slowly the eight-year old version of Mackenzie would slowly and cautiously move around the kitchen table, keeping the furniture between them.  The image of her mother did not seem to notice the stranger standing in their kitchen, continuing in her sing-song voice cooking breakfast.  Dark eyes never left the man as she traveled the kitchen to the counter next to her mother, casually she'd pull the top drawer open and retrieve a long hunting knife.  She was aware it would do no good against a Reaper, but at least it gave her comfort.  "I need to get back." She'd say, this wasn't the first time she'd dealt with a Reaper before.  "My friend is in trouble and-"  pounding foot-steps from the hall way cut her off, eyes darted towards the two teenage boys running into the room, already shouting at each other.  Her heart ached seeing them, her brothers; she missed them more than she knew.  Eyes would dart back to the man.  "Lift the veil."  It pained her to say this, she wanted to see her family again, be with them, but she had a duty to keep Ashley alive.

The howls were coming closer; they would on them in a short amount of time and Ashley knew it would be impossible for them to escape if they caught them out like this.  Ashley could tell William didn't appreciate her request, but she knew what she was doing.  Or at least hoped it would go as she planned.  She was taking the trauma dressing and working as directed, pressing them against the deepest of the lacerations on Mackenzie's back.  She'd nod to William.  "I'll go in the bed with her."  She'd nod towards the keys still in the ignition of the Ford.  "I'm a universal donor.  Once we get her moved I'll get an IV in; it'll keep her stable.  I got this."  She was relieved to see the bleeding slow significantly after the dressing had been applied, and now she glanced towards to William.  "You ready?"  The man seemed large enough to handle Mackenzie on her own, the huntress was a small thing even compared to Ashley.  While she was muscular and fit, Mackenzie had a quite petite stature.

Ariel was ambushed she quickly fell to the ground, she tried to reach for her blade but it was no use. It fell out of her boot and was kicked away by Anthony who came to assist now, "okay guys there is no need to be rough is there. We've got her," he spoke picking up the blade and examining it. "Nice knife, now why would a pretty girl like you have something like this?"

Ariel growled, "to attack asshats like you who attack innocent young woman. Now let me up!" She growled, sure she could easily smite them all but she couldn't do that. "I've done nothing wrong."

Jones said to the woman while helping her up," You are coming with us. Not only are you trespassing on private property you just attacked a security officer. We are gonna detain you at the security tent until we know why exactly you are here. Now get going!" With that, Jones and Barrow took the woman to the security van, placed her in the back, and drove towards the dig site. When they arrived, Ariel could see a bunch of men and women hard at work, digging holes in the sand. She could also see visibly armed security officers. Jones then took her out of the van and placed her in one of the tents and left a other security guard armed with a assault weapon to guard her while he got Sydney and Arnold.

Ariel observed everything, at first it seemed like a normal dig. But having all of the security around meant that she was wrong, there really was something going on. So she just let herself be led to the security tent and didn't bother to fight back, as it wouldn't be wise right now. So she just sat back in her seat and awaited for the next thing to come, "don't I get a phone call!" She called out, "I want my phone call."

No one answered her question. Suddenly, Sydney and a other man walked in. This other man was tall, very thin and looked gaunt. Sydney rubbed a few beads of sweat off his bald head and then said to Ariel," Listen mam, security has caught you trying to sneak into our digsite. Care to explain why?" The tall man then said in a thick French accent," I recommend that you tell the truth madame. If you don't, i have ways of making you talk."

"Is that a threat?" Ariel asked, "because I don't take too kindly to threats. Also they don't scare me," she added crossing her arms. "I didn't realize that it was a private area, that being said why all the security? You guys aren't planning on something evil are you? Digging up kryptonite to take down Superman," she laughed not really taking the situation seriously. "Now if I were you, I'd let me go."

Hypnos watched as the Mackenzie armed herself. Because he was in her dream he had access to her mind and could tell what she was thinking. They both knew that she couldn't hurt him. Not in here. "Very well child of man. I shall end the dream, but there is one thing you are mistaken on. I am not one of my brother's reapers. I am called Hypnos, The God of sleep." With his introduction out of the way the idyllic dream faded away until it was just the two of them in the middle of a field.

It was after Hypnos ended the dream that the actual reaper appeared. Hypnos nodded to the reaper who bowed to Hypnos. The God smiled, "Welcome agent of my brother. Has her time on this earth ended?" The reaper shook his head, " Not yet.... her friends are trying hard to save her."

Hypnos looked to the now fully grown Mackenzie, " What must you tell your friends? If you tell me I can relay the information." Hypnos glanced over to the reaper who seemed to be timing something.

The Frenchmen was not laughing. He whispered something to Sydney and left the tent. Sydney then said to Ariel," We have security all over the place for one reason. To keep whatever we dig up here from being stolen. Also, you will be detained here until we can establish the real reason you came here." The Frenchmen then came back and said to her," I bet you want some water. But, until you spill your guts, you can't have any. Also, we will be placing you in the middle of our camp, right under the hot sun. So, you will either talk or die of dehydration." With that, two security guards tied up Ariel to a chair and placed her outside.

Ariel looked up at the sun, she knew that she wouldn't die of dehydration. But they didn't, so she just closed her eyes. "You know I've been wanting to get a nice tan, it's almost swimsuit season." She spoke, they won't break her that easily. Unless they figured out what she was, then again she figured they wouldn't know anything about her kind. "It really is a nice day for a tan isn't it, you can't break me that easily. I've been trained to take this kind of torture, I'll never spill my guts to anyone."

The Frenchmen walked to her and slapped her. He then said to her in a angry voice," If you don't talk, I will kill you." He then thought for a moment and then said to her," If i can't get you to talk. Perhaps something on you will talk for you. Search her!" Thwo security guards then started to pat Arial down trying to find something like a cellphone or a note."

"Good luck finding anything, I don't carry a cell phone. Never liked them," Ariel told him. "And is that how you treat a lady, by slapping her?" She asked, "search all you want I have nothing on me. I'm just an innocent girl who ventured on the wrong place, so please just let me go." She told him giving him an innocent yet fake smile, she could easily take these guys down if she wasn't tied up.

"Sir," Anthony spoke up. "She was armed with this when we found her," he spoke. "It appears to be some kind of blade, it's really shiny."

The Frenchman took the blade and looked very hard at it. He then turned and said to Arial," Impressive sword Madame. Where did you get it?" He then turned and said to her while pointing the sword on her chest," If you don't talk. I will stab you, right here, right now."

"My father gave it to me," Ariel responded. Seeing the blade aimed at her chest she swallowed hard, "look I don't have any information you want. I'm just here because I find digs interesting, you never know what you can find with them." She told them, "please I don't know anything. I'm telling you the truth."

Will might have protested Ashley's decision to go in the truck bed with Mackenzie, but as soon as she mentioned that she was a universal donor his doubts disappeared. Seeing the way she had handled herself thus far, he was confident that she'd be able to rig up an IV and possibly even a rough transfusion on the way. Hendrix nodded in response to her question, "Yeah. I'll take her," he said, gently sliding Mack from the bench seat while being careful not to make contact with her wounds. With his build and the fact that she was on the smaller side, not much effort was needed to heft her over his shoulders, draping the young woman across his neck. It had been a while since he'd done an Army-style "buddy carry", but it came back to him in an instant.

More howls, closer now. Very close.

Making eye contact with Ash, he nodded toward the truck. Elijah was already there, having dropped the tailgate and retracted the rolling bed cover to make room for them. Will approached, gently lowering Mack into the bed on her stomach before moving over to the sedan and hastily tossing the trauma kit to Ashley.

"Will!" Elijah shouted. Hendrix spun around, hand reaching for the handgun holstered at his waist. The werewolf had seemingly come from nowhere, twelve feet away and readying itself to pounce. The report of a shotgun blast roared through the night and the creature plowed face-first into the road, collapsing with little more than a yelp. Will turned to see Davenport standing with the shotgun, racking another shell into place. "Time to leave," the younger man remarked tersely. He turned to address Ashley for the first time. "Better hold on tight back there miss," he said before climbing into the driver's seat of the truck.

Hendrix calmly drew the pistol and put two additional rounds into the fallen werewolf -- just in case -- before yanking the Mainline's door open. He climbed inside, heedless of the blood-soaked interior. The car was still running... but Will hadn't driven a stick shift in years. He hastily glanced at the gear shift, rocking it into place. Glancing up at the bed of his truck illuminated by the Mainline's headlights, he gave Ash a quick thumbs up. The gesture was interrupted as he heard the passenger side door being swung open beside him. In the space of milliseconds, he turned to see another wolf forcing itself into the compartment. Hendrix brought the handgun up and fired at point-blank range, the muzzle of the handgun pressing against the monster's head. His right ear rang, warm blood spraying over his shirt and adding itself to the collection already present inside the sedan.

As he mashed the accelerator, bringing the sedan's engine roaring to attention and causing it to lurch forward, he couldn't help the wry thought that ran through his brain.

If that girl makes it through this, I don't want to be there when she gets a look at the interior of her ride.

A god?  First angels now gods, Mackenzie's dislike for all things inhuman was growing.  He'd shifted the world around her, now she stood in an open field with another, a real Reaper this time.   She heard the Reaper state she was not going to die, yet.  Ashley still fought for her; she was happy to know this, but terrified the sacrifice would be too great.

"A message needs to get to Elder Brandon Jack."  She was watching the all too calm pair, still wielding the useless hunting knife, she would not release it.  "He needs to know the wolves are from the same pack that killed the Boresit Colony in '92"  She knew Ashley would relay the message perfectly recited and she knew if Brendan heard it spoken he would know what was coming, what they were going to face.  "It's important they hear it, they get the message."  She knew it would save lives in the long run.

She paused regarding the two before her, one god one reaper and she sighed, sheathing the knife at her belt.  "I can't wake up, can I?" She had assumed the god that had brought her the tranquil dream would have been able to return her to consciousness when she'd demanded it but now that they stood in what seemed like a void she knew the truth.  She was dying, worse than she'd originally thought.  "Tell Ashley,"  She winced at the thought that she was well and truly dying, that she wasn't going to go back and give Ashley a piece of her mind for stopping.  "Tell her not to wait, when I'm gone.  Tell her to go back to school, leave this shit behind."

As soon as William was collecting the body of Mackenzie she was grabbing the sought after items from the front of the car and following behind the two to the truck.  She'd climb up once Mackenzie was in the bed and pulled the tailgate closed behind her.  She'd immediately duck down, hearing the shot gun burst followed by the sickening thunk of a corpse hitting the ground.  She couldn't bring herself to look up and find out who or rather, what had been killed by Elijah.  She was focused; sliding her body along Mackenzie's so she was laying against her friend, offering her body warmth as well as more stability for the task at hand.

More shots and she would look over the tailgate to see William killing a wolf inside Mackenzie's car; she held her breath watching, waiting, and hoping he was alright.  When the car was forced into gear she let the breath escape.  Hands shaking she was removing the first IV kit from it's sterile wrappings, it would take her four attempts to finally find a vein on Mackenzie's upper arm that wouldn't collapse or roll out of the line.  The second IV she placed within the back of her left hand, knowing it would be the hand she'd move and use the least.  A line was set up between them, Ashley elevating her had to hold the side of the truck, counting herself lucky seeing her blood flow through the line, into Mackenzie.  It was a long shot, to say the least, but if it helped even in the slightest it was worth it.  The vitamin K bag was attached to a port close to Mackenzie's IV, the dipper set to low; this would help Mackenzie's body clot.  It wouldn't outright stop the bleeding, but it would at least help in preventing her from bleeding out.

Hypnos' face remained his perpetual smile as he listened to her message. " Dont worry Mackenzie. At the very least your message will survive you." Hypnos looked over to the reaper who stood beside him and began thinking. From her memories the god could tell that her life had been a hard one and debated his options. If he pushed his power he could force the reaper to sleep and grant Mackenzie a little more time until his power waned, but would that truly be worth it? Even if he delayed the reaper he knew the situation in reality was grim. Should he relinquish his hold on her and allow her to wake? Then the pain would return and her potential last moments would be one of suffering.

The drowsy god sighed and looked out at the expanse of the plains. "If you truly wish it I will help you wake up, but are you sure that's what you want? Can you muster the strength to live on amidst the pain and suffering?" Hypnos asked his face showing genuine concern for Mackenzie.  To reiterate his point Hypnos conjured forth another dream. This one would be one where she and her sister had found a small house living with their ideal husbands. Kids, white picket fence, the whole deal.

Now standing in the middle of her living room Hypnos offered Mackenzie a choice. In the background she would hear her husband and family calling to her. In front of her would be a door with Hypnos and the reaper standing on either side of her view.

" I can make these last moments last a lifetime. Eventually you'll embrace the peace you so rightly deserve. Or I can help you wake and ignore your pain so that you can help your sister." Hypnos said standing by the door with his hands folded in front of him. He wasn't one to force his power onto humans. He just wanted to make them comfortable.

Elijah glanced cautiously at the fuel gauge in the truck. He had been putting the vehicle's powerful V8 to work all the way to and from their rendezvous with Ashley & and Mack's position. Doing the rough math in his head, he figured they'd have enough fuel to make it back, but it would be a close thing judging by the needle. He glanced at the rearview mirror, but couldn't make out much more than the Ford's headlights behind them. Reaching into his pocket, he removed his cellphone and dialed Will.

After a brief pause, the ringing stopped. "Yeah," William's voice was gruff.

"I saw the muzzle flashes as we were taking off. Everything all right back there?"

"I'm good. Can't say the same about the interior of our new friend's car, though."

"Small price to pay," Elijah muttered under his breath, before raising his voice again. "How's your fuel situation?"

There was a pause before Hendrix replied. "I think this old thing will make it. How about the truck?"

"Don't worry. This hulking behemoth of yours will get back to Vitae... on fumes if nothing else."

"Fair enough. Can you get a SITREP on our patient?"

"Sure. Wait one," he lowered the phone, tapping a button to slide the rear window open. He turned to call back to Ash, "How's your friend doing? My partner's asking for an update on her status."

Mackenzie blinked hearing the gods offer, and without any consideration she made her choice.  "Wake me."  The dream would never be real for her; Mackenzie had never been one for a family, one for children either.  She knew if she were to die, and her sins didn't cast her to Hell, her heaven would be her hunting with Ashley and her brothers for eternity.

She could hear the soft din of happy noise from the house behind her, laughter of children that were never hers, the voice a husband she would never have.  It was deafening; it was lulling her, but she needed to stand firm, she needed to tell Ashley what was coming, so she would have a chance to live on.  If anything, she was going to tell Ashley to pass on her message to the Elder, then cut and run.  Flee as far and as fast as she could so she would not have to witness what was coming for Vitae Colony.

The driver wasn't the most pleasant thing she'd experience; being in the back of the bed unsecured meant a great deal of jostling.  She'd had maneuver herself so her arm was cradling Mackenzie's head to prevent it from continuously  hitting the bottom of the metal bed. Doing this meant she'd let control on their movements, each slight turn meant they slide a few inches left or right. Any bump had her ribs pounding into the bed of the truck, she did her best to brace herself and Mackenzie using her feet, but it could only do so much to prevent movement. The window above her opened and Elijah was asking for an update, worried blue eyes would turn to him.  "She's still breathing, pulse is strong, minimal bleeding now."  But she omitted the part where her friend hadn't regained consciousness; it certainly wasn't a good sign.

Elijah nodded, keeping his attention on the road as he brought up the phone again and relayed Mackenzie's status.

There was silence on the other end of the line and Davenport was about to prompt his partner when William responded. "Still not conscious?"

"She didn't say, but..." Davenport glanced back again. "I don't think so."

Will mulled that over. The lack of bleeding could be good or bad -- for someone in Mackenzie's position it could very well have meant that she'd merely run out of blood to lose. However, a strong pulse seemed to make that possibility less likely. That transfusion seemed to have done some good after all. Still, the fact that she hadn't regained consciousness was worrying. There was nothing to be done for that now, though. All they could do was make sure she got back to Vitae in one piece. Hendrix just hoped their medical facilities were up to the task.

"All right. Slow down a bit. We don't need either of them getting a concussion back there. I think we've put some distance between us and the pack."

"Will do. Shouldn't be much further now," Elijah replied hopefully before hanging up.

Hypnos nodded and offered his hand, " Then follow me Mackenzie. We shall travel to the waking world together." With her decision made and her life no longer hanging by a thread the reaper that had come to collect disappeared into the veil.

Hypnos' kind smile never left him as Mackenzie rejected his dream. In fact he was happy that she did. There were few mortals who could hunt the monsters of this world and considering it was enough to take even him they were going to need every single one of them.

As Mackenzie would approach the father of dreams to wake up the dream would around her would crack and fade away into darkness until ultimately she took his hand and she would be forcibly woken up. Though she would still feel the pain it would be severely dulled thanks to the god's influence. Another everyone in the truck would notice was that they would have a new addition in the back of the truck. Because when Mackenzie takes his hand the God of Sleep fully intended to manifest himself in the waking world.

"My father gave it to me," Ariel responded. Seeing the blade aimed at her chest she swallowed hard, "look I don't have any information you want. I'm just here because I find digs interesting, you never know what you can find with them." She told them, "please I don't know anything. I'm telling you the truth."

The Frenchman nodded and said," Thanks for telling me the truth. But, i am afraid you cannot leave. You have seen to much. Men, take her to trailer 2." With that, two security guards took Arial and ledc her to a trailer. When they got in, they handcuffed her to a pipe and left her with a bottle of water. They then left the trailer. But not before leaving a sentry outside the trailer.

Ariel sighed, she wiggled her hands trying to get through the cuffs but they were on pretty tight. "Guess I under estimated these mortals," she sighed. "Oh well they'll make a mistake, I'll find a way out of here. I always do, it's not like they have enoki symbols on them."

"You know what she is right? I mean that blade, it's an angel blade is it not? A blade of legend," Anthony spoke. "What would an angel be doing here, and how are we going to slow her down?"

The Frenchman turned to Anthony and said," If you are right, we may may have a problem. I will go tell Sydney. You my good man, continue on your rounds." The Frenchman then walked into Sydney's trailer and said," Sydney, we have a problem. It turns out the mademoiselle we captured is a angel. Someone probably sent her to spy on us. What should we do." Sydney then surprised the Frenchman by grinning. Sydney then got up from his desk and said to the frenchman," Simple, we draw a enoki symbol. It will keep her weak and hopefully forces her to tells us who sent her." Sydney then showed the Frenchman a drawing of a enoki symbol. The Frenchman nodded and instructed two laborers to make a enoki symbol large enought to surround Arial's trailer. The laborers then proceeded to arrange rocks around the trailer making them into the shape of a enoki symbol.

The truck had slowed and Ashley had pushed herself up to her elbow to look over the side of the truck, trying to determine what had made them lose their speed when Mackenzie beside her took a deep rattling breath.  Looking down at her friend she could see the other woman's dark green eyes were open, shocked, but otherwise she hadn't moved.  "Mac?"  She'd whisper quietly, only then taking notice of the new addition in the bed of the truck with them.  Ashley was scrambling, pulling her pistol from her hip and firing twice at the god holding Mackenzie's hand before she heard Mackenzie whisper.  "Ally."Ashley was shocked looking down at her prone friend.  "What?"  She wouldn't release the pistol, she didn't know where this man had come from even if Mackenzie was calling him an Ally.

Mackenzie had woken, painfully.  The god had said he could numb her pain but she still felt the burning ache across her back.  Being dragged from the dream world was disorienting, and it took her a moment to figure out where she was.  Shot's rang out causing her to jump, the movement jarred her wounds.  She'd caught Ashley's attention, and when the woman moved closer.  "Brendan."  Voice was hoarse, pained but she pushed.  "Brendan needs to know, the wolves, the pack. "  She'd wince, giving a small groan as pain tingled through her back again.  "The same pack that killed Boresti Colony.  He'll know."

Ashley was shaking her head.  "Quiet Mac, you need to rest."  Even though she was thankful Mackenzie was awake, she wished she had anything to give her some pain relief.    Mackenzie would hiss in frustration. "Listen.  Brendan. Boresti....."  Ashley was nodded.  "Yes, I know.  I will tell him.  The same pack that killed the Boresti Colony.  He'll know.  Just stay still."  She would look up at the man seated within the bed with her.  "Demon or Angel?"  He may have been declared an ally by Mackenzie but it didn't mean she needed to trust him.

Ariel managed to get one wrist through, although she cut it pretty badly. But she didn't care, at least one hand was free now she could get the other one out. The angel was unaware that her captures found out about what she really is and were currently working on the only way that would block her powers and render her mortal for the time being, once the other hand was free Ariel picked up the bottle of water and washed away the blood on her wrist.

Now it was time to get out of here, she pictured the compound in her mind so she could just transport herself there. But when she tried to it didn't work, she still remained in the trailer. "Damn..Guess they're smarter than I thought.." She muttered to herself.
