This suit made no sense! How was the woman inside even alive anymore??? Ada had her brows furrowed looking at the thing, only glancing away when her dad answered the phone. Her attention was on this schematic. Was it unfinished? Or did that Sherm person have a mean streak in him after all? Weird family. Distantly, she could hear some booming, no doubt a fight happening somewhere in the crater. Not an uncommon occurrence. Just like distant thunder to her at this point.

Jewel laughed at him not remembering her, "I mean that's fair. It's been a while for sure. I've been a hero now for five years. That said, someone in your profession should definitely know who I am. I'm in one of the biggest hero families now, you derp. Jewel, aka Destiny Aphera. Married S-class hero Oscar Aphera? Geez, you losing your edge or something, cute suit?" His suit was not in fact, cute, but Jewel had no off button.

"Anyway, of course, I'll pay you. First thing first is information, what I need done will come later. How about 500 for the info, sweetcheeks? I'm a little disappointed you couldn't recall such an important figure for your business. After all, I know the world and I might have to fight it one day. That day isn't today, though. So how about you gimme your info for 500 and prove to me that you're still worth my time."

He listened to the woman talk, the name continuing to ping around in his head, hoping to find the save file that it originated from. That hope, however, was in vain. "Biggest hero families in L.A perhaps. Ultimately, Jewel, you are but a drop in the bucket of water in my profession. If I've made the effort to keep you in my mind permanently, you should be well aware you're on the wrong side of my contract. Now then..." He rolled the number around in his head, five hundred huh? "Whether I'm worth your time or not doesn't bother me. If you end the call now or hang up, you're ultimately hurting yourself. You call me, not the other way around. If you want the information, it's five-fifty." He waited in silence until the amount was paid, and upon confirmation it was, he spoke again.

"Alright, fair's fair. I just finished a job at Tristan Industries. The employer was BAE systems, the European armored vehicle manufacturer. They wanted one of the company's large tank designs, and they paid six figures for it. Unfortunately for Tristan Industries, they seem to have something against lethal force...might have had a better chance if they did. Do with that as you will." He didn't make any comment about the fact he had plucked the Kali suit schematics, but she wasn't asking about that, now was she? That was done on his own time and his own dollar. He'd answer honestly, but only to the questions, he got.

AXIOM
As Axiom gets himself out ofr the rubble, his eyes widen as they fall upon a giant, demon-like creature roaring to the top of it's lungs. Axiom presses his earpiece "All-see, this is Axiom. I'm experiencing...Some difficulties."

"So I hear. The Beast has awaken. You need to attempt to subdue him."

"Subd-- How?! He's not exactly human anymore!" Axiom asks slightly irately

"That's up to you to figure out. You don't stop him however you can, before the mission becomes a complete failure. We're counting out." The device cuts out

"Did they just...!"Axiom's eyes widen even further after realizing communications have been cut off "I fff----" Axiom takes a deep breath and recomposes himself "Hate it when they do that!" Axiom looks to The Beast "Subdue, it they say." Axiom sees the young man "Ah no! A by-stander! And if Thomas is in this state...What's gonna stop him from hurting others in the area? Nothing, unless I do something about it! I gotta draw Thomas' attention from him to myself." Axiom runs up behind Beast and grabs hold of Beast's tail an d gives it a firm tug before letting go "Thomas! I don't know if you can still understand me but you need to stop this right now! You're gonna hurt people and us! We're too close to the edge of the crater, anything drastic could send us falling to our deaths! Please, you have to understand! Or atleast I hope you do!"

Anthony couldn't help but smile at the appearance of a friend, taking her hand eagerly, "Hello Corvus! A pity you and I seem to meet at such unfortunate times." He cleared his throat, giving the other girl an apologetic smile, "Please excuse the blood, if you can. There's naught I can do about it, alas. Even the amazing Corvus can only stem the tide for so long. Speaking of which... I am pleasantly surprised by your visit! Do you plan to be in town for a while? If indeed you do, I could house you at my abode. The same goes for your friend. The more the merrier. As you know, you're more than welcome to my more modern amenities such as the bath and stovetop."

He smiled at Viona, "I'm actually older than Corvus here, so I'm quite accustomed to the changing times of technology. Corvus needs nor wants much, but I try to extend a hand of accommodation as I can. While she may not need or feel a great desire for the pleasantries of life, I have convinced her before to use my bath - even she seemed more relaxed afterward!" He chuckled, teasing his friend ever so slightly, "Now she comes and stays at my house usually if she's in the area."

"So do tell, miss. What is the affliction that brought Corvus to you? I'm ever so curious. Mine makes itself known... verily. You have your suit, so I can only make guesses at it... perhaps something that can in turn afflict others?"

Bickering amongst themselves, were they? He had to admit... the... erm... 25-foot tall giant beast that the man had become was intimidating. More than intimidating, it was downright terrifying. How the hell was this contained in that tiny, stick of a man? He was barely five feet tall, and this... thing... was at least twenty feet tall. Maybe more. Fuck... Beyond that, the damned boulder this thing threw like it weighed nothing! He dove to the side out of the way as the rock tumbled down the hill of the crater wall, making a hell of a lot of noise along with it.

Running wasn't an option for the boy, he thought as he raised to his feet again. If he did, he was dead anyway. The others would kill him, no doubt. Since they seemed to be bickering though... maybe he had a chance. He'd sure as hell take it!

His arms glowed with red hot mana, and he raised his hands to the sky to use what felt like a bit too much force. He wanted to try to make sure to squash the giant bug as soon as possible. In all honesty, Axiom was the furthest thing from his mind right now. From his hands sprouted many yellow, firey orbs. These grew to be at least one hundred in number, far above the two heroes. They sizzled and spewed steam from the rain, but grew in size and heat anyway until they created little mirages around their edges.

With a heaving movement, he brought his hands down, and in turn the rain of fireballs that rocketed towards the ground with explosive force.

The Beast

The beast snapped its head around, glaring at Axiom. "Little man annoying! Little man die!" With its sage wisdom dispensed, the beasts tail swung back towards Axiom in an effort to send him tumbling to the side. Perhaps, by some saving grace, this would be a better fate than what was currently coming at them. Staring up at the orbs that started to go up above them, the beast took a power stance. One foot forward and another back, two arms at it's side. "GROAAAAAR!" Each time it roared, it's lower jaw flared in mandible fashion, revealing rows of sharp teeth and that the inside of its mouth seemed to be alight with the fires of hell. As if to challenge the imminent death above him, the beast stood his ground as fireballs pelted from the heavens above, creating a mess of a fire blossom explosion as they touched down. Rubble went flying as a massive cloud of smoke and fire filled the location Beast had once stood. It was silent, like he had one...but alas, if it was that easy to kill this thing, the military would have had it out of their hair long ago. "GROAAAR!" The beast took a few lumbering steps forward from the fireball that stayed behind, embers licking from its hide only to be doused by the rain, its eyes trained on the one who was responsible for this. All he seemed to have accomplished was piss it off more if even that. There were charred marks of flesh to an extent, but they quickly seemed to heal, leaving him back at perfect condition again.

"CRUSH YOUR RIBS!" With it's thoughts now out in the open, the Beast lept forward into the crater towards the young boy, arms going up above its head in a set of fists, intent to bring it down on the young man. If he dodged, as any sane person would attempt to do so, both he and Axiom would be subject to the tremor that followed as Beast slammed the ground with enough force to send more rubble tumbling down into the crater. "EAT YOUR BONES!"

"Six figures, huh?" Jewel repeated, digging around in the center console for a pack of gum or a lollypop or something she could nosh on while dealing with this guy, "BAE... hm. Sounds like fun, shady business. I'm happy you didn't kill the poor guys... not allowed to use lethal force... kinda a sick joke if you ask me, but eh. Some people are unduly bothered by the spilling of blood. So how's the small fry you got? Most of the shit I bought you for was easy enough and I'm a soft sort of hardass, so you took her along for a number of the jobs. The smaller ones, anyway. Of course, no clue what she actually looks like or her name, I'm sure, but you called her Kite or something like that? Like, a bird name. Kinda cute. Kid's probably a terrifying little badass now. I don't remember much, but I remember she didn't show fear, even as a kid as young as she must have been."

"So was your protege in on it or nah? I didn't sense anyone other than you, but with your antimagic bullshit, it's hard to know for sure. Smart on your part, to be fair. Anyway, I'll get back to you about a potential job in return. I doubt money will be an issue in this, just gotta see if they're willing to dance on the line of morality a little bit. As far as I see it, you guys are no different than heroes, you just have a steadier paycheck. Before I let you go, got any questions for me in return?"

"There was something in the contract about Tristan Industries suffering being ironic, hence why they're all alive. Though I'm sure a majority are going to be on medical leave for a while." He glanced towards Ada for a moment, then back to the schematics he continued to study as he spoke. "Mmm. She's young, but she's efficient. She could handle her own against heroes at this point, and that's all I have to offer on the status of Kite. She did not accompany me for this, I did it alone." He gave a somewhat amused chuckle at her comment about the anti-magic, continuing. "People who can use it rely on magic too much. That goes for heroes as well. Without their abilities to become superhuman, they panic. That's all there is too it. I'm just...evening the playing field. I have no questions. You have a day to consider my employment, that's all the time I'll offer to stay on 'hold'. After that, it's whoever buying again. Enjoy your day, Jewel." With that he ended the call, setting his phone to the side again. "Seems an old employer decided to go straight and needed to reach out to me to...settle the score I just made. I don't care either way, there's always someone willing to hire, so I get paid either way." He paused, the sound of something going on above in the crater audible. "May have to wait a while before we can go above ground to go scouting."

Ada looked at her dad with a raised brow at the mention of her name but waited for the call to end to say anything. He explained, of course, so she shrugged, "That's fine. The old employer knew about Kite? Neat. I wonder if I left a good impression on her. The whole Tristan family seems like a bunch of crazies, by the way. Like... wow crazy sort of crazy. I still don't see how anyone can manage to wear that suit... it's freaky." She leaned back in her chair, staring at the ceiling above for a long, silent moment.

"We could do some training? I'm always up for that. Sounds entertaining, too. Unless you're tired from the job, of course."

"I believe her wording was 'probably a terrifying little badass now'? So yes, a good impression as any. It's been about five years since she last employed me. The fact she remembers Kite is a good sign, it means your doing things right." He glanced at the schematics, reaching out to close down the computer station. "I can't say I disagree. Though Kali has a high tendency to not take captives or leave anyone alive in a fight. If I can exploit her suit, I can ensure she's less of a headache then she needs to be if we come to blows." He crossed his arms across his chest, rubbing his chin in thought. "We can train, I have no issue with that. The job wasn't that difficult, compared to others I've had. So long as you're up for it, we'll see if you can land a hit this time."

Shard simply gritted his teeth But looked at the reaper and said. "I dont know much of my mother. If you truly wish to learn about her. We would have to go to my fathers castle in the crimson lake. However, that would mean .... He would also learn she is quite possibly alive. And if he learns that.... LA will be consumed in an ocean of blood and hellfire as he burns down everything to look for her." He sighed some in thought. "I suppose we could just bring seiva. She could work as a dampener on him trying to tear apart LA." He turned to zuzu. "hey zuzu..... one more thing..... I never told him about Ruru" he admitted looking the other way.

Viona examined the patient that she was brought to. He seemed very weak health wise. She was suprised to hear she was actually a good friend of her mother. Even more so that he was older. "she used his bath? she never used mine.... then again, mine is just a decontamination chamber." She took a seat and pressed a button on her helmet. Turning the front of it slightly transparent. "My name is Viona, the best way you could describe my relationship with Corvus is she is a mother to me. From the earliest time i could remember Corvus has stopped by to help me and my affliction. Said afflication being.... well, My entire body constantly produces toxins that range from mild nausea to stronger then poison dart frogs. Its quite dangerous so I hope you may forgive the suit." She said smiling as she showed a vial of liquid that popped out of her suit. the vial covered in bright hazard symbols before she plugged it back in. it was a vile that routinely pricked her drawing a minor amount of of blood to test her current toxin levels. If it gets to high she is alerted and had to leave any civilian areas. "So.... you two are quite old friends then, how come i never heard about him mom?" she asked smiling some.

Phone was ringing. Someone was calling me and it woke me up. I had slept like a brick after coming home yesterday, and as always night held no dreams for me - no dreams, no nightmares, nothing. I hoisted myself out of bed, wincing a little as apparently some of my systems weren't fully booted up yet. I more or less fell forward till I reached the phone, and picked up on the last ring.

"Hai ?"

Someone cleared their throat, and then Caesar spoke, and he was in a car or something. Oh. Hadn't been expecting a call from him. Or maybe I had been. Dunno. My memory was always fuzzy on the wake. I had a sort of awkward smile when he mentioned the hero exam, because I had completely forgotten about it during the night. Whoops. Well anyway.

"Oshit. Completely got out of my mind during the night. Hai, yes, I'll be ready when you're here. Just need to get into something at least a little professional-looking and do my hair and I should be good to go. One sec..."

Putting the phone on loudspeaker, I left it on the bedside table and started looking in my closet for something that wasn't either casual wear or just duplicates of my costume. I suppressed a wince. I really had almost nothing else than that. Keyword being "almost." I took a shirt and pants out of the closet - both black, of course, cuz when my clothing wasn't white then it was black and vice-versa. Long hair with those wouldn't do, I mused, and so I went to shorten it a little; weirdos doing like weirdos do, it was with my rapier that I brought my hair to neck length. While slipping into the clothes, I sifted through my notifications, and some of them made me call Caesar out.

"Shouldn't we delay the exam ? There's an OA spotting near the crater and the Beast is running wild, and there's a red alert downtown that got no one handling it. I think those are more pressing right now."

Ada grinned at the praise from the old employer. Secondhand praise, sure, but it was still praise and it made her feel good about herself. She was indeed a terrifying little badass! At least she thought she was! She hopped up to her feet, moving to the training area, "I feel like Kali is probably the sort of person to have contingencies. She must be crafty if she wears that thing."

"Right, now then. Hand-to-hand?" she asked, turning to face her father and now would-be opponent with her hands loosely up in front of her chest.

Standing up and stretching an arm across his chest, he gave a soft hum of acknowledgment. "Contingencies and crafty, maybe. But since she's wearing it and operating so profusely in it, she obviously has little regard for her own safety, possibly mentally unsound. That also means she may take risks or maneuvers that a sane person wouldn't consider, and her fighting style reflects that. It's all pieces of a puzzle I can use." Heading into the training area he cracked his neck, widening his stance a bit and putting up his fists. "Right. See if you can hit me this time. I don't care where you try to punch me, below the belt is fine. In a real fight, there are no formalities or rules. People who think that way are often proven wrong. When you're doing a job, you do whatever it takes to get it done." He took a few slow steps left, as if to start circling her. "Take your best shot."

A soft chuckle escaped the plague doctor, a hand going out to take Anthony's own. "Nonsense, my friend. You would not see me so often if not for your condition. There is good with this bad." She tilted her head a bit, much like a raven would with its interest peaked. "I will be here for a time, yes. I would appreciate the lodging, hotels have become...nervous when I approach. They say I bring ill omens. Your modern amenities are welcome, though I must remind you that I do not always need them. Viona will not need your lodging I'm afraid, she has her own unique set of circumstances."

She turned her attention to Viona, giving a small nod. "Viona is very much an adoptive daughter to me. She is a kind soul, and I am the only one able to truly enjoy her company without fear of harm upon my person. A shame, more should be free to know her without fearing death. One day, I will remedy both of your conditions, do not doubt this." At her question of why he never heard about him she chuckled again. "Dear girl, you should know the privacy between a doctor and patient is sacred, trust not to be broken. He did not know of you until just now as well. But you are as much family as one can be, the both of you. I saw no harm in either of you meeting now. Now then, Anthony, give me but a moment." Her hand gripped the males hand as the plague doctor mask stared at him. Silently she began to sponge up the disease riddling him, and it should only take but a moment. Time and time again, she would do this, until she found a cure for his affliction. Just like she would stay with Viona as long as it took to help her find a remedy for her own 'disease'.

SoulFlare, The Docks

Natalie had left the hotel not too long ago, staying behind just long enough to make sure Darren wasn't going to start vomiting again any time soon. Once she was certain that he would be fine she made her way out, telling him he'd be back. Taking a confusing route in and out of alleyways and dipping in and out of sight, she came to a stop in a secluded alcove in an alley, cracking her knuckles. All at once, she caught ablaze, flesh melting like plastic and hair going up in a blaze. Her clothes caught fire and burned up, her entire body one massive fireball mid-transformation. Honestly, the sight was quite ghastly, a burn victim in the making. She didn't scream however, in fact, she cocked a small grin before her face completely burned away, revealing the flaming skull that she was known for. And as Natalie and Agas blended into one and out of individuality, and SoulFlare took center stage. Once she was transformed, the hell cycle spit into existence from a bonfire, only for Soulflare to mount it and come screaming out of the alleyway, a trail of fire licking at the air behind her, slowly dying out the further she got away.

Arriving at the docks she skid to a halt, an infernal noise cutting the air as she stopped. Stepping off the bike she looked around for a few moments, aiming to get her bearings. She needed a scent or something to follow. And she need not wait long, the smell hitting her in short order. The smell of suffering, tears, and broken will. Screams for mercy and begging for release. The smell trafficking...they were approaching, by boat if she had to guess. Her first thought was to mount the bike again and head out to meet them, but she thought better of it. No, see where they stopped...and that would be where she put the mass grave. There was a receiving end to this usually, just wait until it made itself known, and leave nothing but ashes behind. The bike burnt itself out of existence as she slid into space out of sight, watching silently.

Ada gave him a big grin, "I'll try my best!" She watched his movements like a hawk, or in her case, a kite, "So I guess now's as good a time as any to tell you..." She paused and bounced a little, trying to decide what to do first. He always knew what she was going to do, even before she knew what she was going to do. It was the biggest reason she always lost against him. She was doing better though. Her own fighting style was an odd one, based half on skill and half on reflexive movements, Certainly not the most... effective style, for most, but it worked with her powers. It did help to make her more unpredictable... to most people, anyway. Again, her dear old dad was special. He was a pain in the ass to fight.

They had been working on training her to attack reflexively too, make the most of her movements and their potential super-speed, but it was like... trying to run a manual car on autopilot. It was really difficult. Meditation helped. Studying some monk techniques helped a lot. It was still hard, though, and it was a balance, too. Like... On the one hand, she had to be relaxed enough and reactionary enough that it counted for whatever bullshit rules her powers had so that it was a reflex reaction, but she also had to be aware enough to not make dumb reflexive decisions. She had to make her reflexes picky, but also applicable to more movements.

In this case, she let herself lean forward and used the reflex to catch herself to zip herself forward instead, and with an impressive blur of speed. Likewise, once close enough, she tried to use the reflex of smacking something, like a bug or whatnot, to "smack" her dad's side with her fist. It was still with that impressive burst of speed but it wasn't as refined as the first, and it could be easily seen that she knew it too. Nose scrunched, annoyed at herself.

His eyes never left Ada, continuing his slow prowl to the left. He studied her every move, how she held herself, how her eyes flicked about as if they were gaging where best to place a hit. Every minute instance a person made helped him know what they were doing next. It was the unfortunate truth that he always knew what his daughter was doing, he'd taught her most of her combat styles herself. Though she was working on her own style, it wasn't enough to ever land that hit. It was fine though, every successor got the shit beat out of themselves routinely before they managed to make headway. His own father had kicked his crap in until he turned fifteen, and he even knew what the old man was doing. Then again...vice versa could be said.

She burst forward towards him, his mind registering what was to come next. Blow towards the left. No sooner had she closed the distance to engage in her swing did he quickly backpedal out of swinging range. While he didn't have the reflexes of Ada, his mind still operated on a speed higher than an average person, letting his body move quicker as it registered the brain signal. Once he had stepped out of her swinging range he dropped low, leg kicking out in a sweep towards her feet. If she made the mistake of leaping into the air to avoid it, she'd be met with a kick towards her midriff. However, if she was smart enough to simply backpedal out of the way, she'd have avoided his attempt to hit her completely.

Anthony heaved a small sigh as the displeasure of his condition was eased, and gave Corvus another sweetened smile, "I appreciate this. I always tell you that and I always will in the future as well." He looked to Viona, "That sounds rather unfortunate. Mine is not one that oft inflicts others, I have luckily avoided Corvus experiencing such unpleasantries of my condition... though knowing her she would no doubt like to see it regardless. Let me guess, she hath tasted of your poison blood to test its qualities before? Much to your own caterwauling? She is her own lord and lady, and allows herself to bow before no one nor no government."

Viona was cute. This was not lost on him. The poor girl had probably seldom had any man or woman dote on her or vye for her hand... in boyfriendry? Odd thought. Oh how the times had changed. No more trading of a herd, at least not in this country.

"You're as beautiful as a blooming sakura blossom tree, Viona. I dare say that the gods themselves would be jealous of your appearance. One of the fairest lasses I have had the privilege to lay eyes on. Would it were that your situation was slightly different, you would have boys vying for you in droves, such as it were with Helena of Troy. Corvus will one day have her hands full steering them clear of you."

Problem number 4,562 of having super-reflexes... have you ever reacted to a fly or something and smacked a wall without thinking of it? Or maybe your hands felt like a cup was slipping, and you grab at it, only to instead fling it across the room because it wasn't actually falling. For Ada, it felt like problem 1 all the way through 5,000 at the moment was her damned reflexes reacting to a problem she saw coming, even though she knew what was going to happen next! Lo and behold, the kick to her waist connected and she was sent sprawling to the ground.

"God fucking damn it!" she cursed at herself as she forced herself to roll and return to her feet, "Saw it coming. Reacted to your kick. Reflexes went jump. No time to avert it." Ugh her midsection hurt. Ada grimaced and steeled herself, positioning to go again, "I know, I know. I need to fix that. It can be used against me easily. Easy to say, hard to fix."

She went for a slightly lighter approach, feeling less inclined to work on her own style all of a sudden. Ada moved forward to him and swung square for his sternum, then used the reaction timing from his next movement to try to knee him in the nuts as she continued.

His kick found solid purchase, and Ada was sent sprawling to the ground. Righting himself and going back into steady position with his hands in front of him, he gave her a brief nod. "Keep working at it. The more your in control of your weaknesses, the longer you'll survive. In most situations, that move right there cost you your life or at least weeks in the hospital. If I had used a blade instead of my boot, the fight would be done. At least you're up again." Seeing her approach him he shifted his weight. She was going for a blow, and then take advantage of his reaction to it. The back of his hand lashed out to knock away her blow, only for his body to twist to the side at the last moment as her knee came up. With that done, his arm lashed out in an attempt to wrap beneath her knee, and if that were successful, flip her up into the air and onto her back. Though, there was of course her body would react quickly and she'd jerk her leg back in time. If that was the case, he'd backpedal a few steps, going back into a ready stance. "Dropping your own tactics for something I taught you, Kite? You were going to bring something up, weren't you? Good as time as any to tell me something?"

Axiom was in panic mode as he was certain the fall could kill him but it was just his luck that he managed to grab hold of a bent steel beam. No doubt from all the wreckage and debris surrounding the crator. Suddeny, Axiom felt tremors, no doubt coming from up above. All the mobement begins ton dislodge of the debris. One of which was the beam he was holding on to. With little time left, Axiom looks around for something else to grab on to. He quickly spots some cable wire uses his momentum to swing over to the cables just in time before the pipe falls into the abyss. Axiom's heart beats like crazy but he takes a deep breath before focusing on getting back up to the surface. He swings and climbs from wreckage to wreckage all the while dodging syray debris as it calls from the commotion. After awhile, Axiom finally makes it to edge of the crater and climbs out. He sees the Beast still having at it with the stranger. Perhaps that was for the best. He cant subdue nor reason with him. So perhaps while Beast was distracted, Axiom decides to head over to the remains of the building. He could still try finding any lead on an entrance while the Beast and the stranger were occupied.

Yami whined more as she watched the situation unfold before her. Pouting she climbed off the bed and scampered over to Ruru. Going behind her she hugged Ruru’s left leg tightly and babbled at her as she looked up before looking back to the scary weapon lady. Nuzzling into Ruru’s leg with a quiet whine of fear as clung to Ruru. She pulled at the pant leg of Ruru wanting to be held so she didn’t feel so scared.
