Street Racing

"Actually, I don't," she admits. She wants to stay here with his warmth and his gaze. But she doesn't want to annoy him.

She keeps her hand in her pocket, hoping that she can somehow make his touch stay. But it's obvious that she can't. And it's obvious that he doesn't want her to. "Right." Vanessa nods tightly. "I'll be going, then. Say thanks to Kelas for me."

"I will." Tyrako nodded with a smile, standing up, although painfully and slowly, and walked over to her. He then kissed her on the cheek. "Also, don't hide it... I already know... And I feel the same way."

Vanessa feels her face heat up. She can't believe she's so obvious. She actually feels embarrassed, but the warmth of his lips on her cheek makes it better. "Yeah?" She says, placing a hand on her face. "That's good." She stands on her tiptoes and returns the favor; this time, it's a lot closer to the corner of his mouth.

"Yeah." Vanessa nods, a gentle smile on her face. "That will be awesome." She rocks on her heels for a moment, and then she nods her goodbye and finally leaves. She has never thought her heart would race like this.

Tyrako went to the couch and sat down. Kelas soon got out of the kitchen but with a smile, having overheard the conversation between his brother and Vanessa.

She quickly calls Carter once she's driving back home. She knows it's dangerous, but at the moment, she's too focused on something - or someone - else to care. "Bro," she says. "Teach me how to race."

Tyrako was helped to get upstairs to his room by Kelas. Soon he lied on his bed and rest, Kelas leaving him alone to rest.

"Okay," Carter stars. "See that curve over there." He points.

Right now, they're on a practice lane that Carter had reserved for her. Vanessa is sitting behind the wheel of her Mustang Cobra. She grips the wheel tightly. "Yeah."

"All you gotta do is drift," Carter explains. "In sport races, you don't need to. But street races are different."

"Okay." Vanessa nods. "So. Drift."

"Yeah. Now, go. Make sure you don't crash."

Vanessa nods again. She turns on the ignition, slowly speeding up. When she's about to reach the curve, she shifts her gear and switches the wheel. The car directs into a slow turn, the tires sliding fluidly on the road. It shifts position, with the rear of the car facing the side.

Once the curve is open, she shifts gears again, and manages to pull the car back into the regular road.

"I did it," she whispers. She hears Carter yell in the distance.

Next Saturday...

"It's the entrance round..." Tyrako said while Kelas drove them to the event's location. Tyrako walked out and looked for Vanessa.

Vanessa seriously wants to go to the bathroom, but the rice is going to start in a few minutes. She sees Kelas and Tyrako, and waves.

"Are you ready?" Tyrako asked, coming over with Kelas. They didn't by the Audi R8 yet because they wanted to join the tournament first, get some more money and then buy the car.

"Yeah," Vanessa breathes. Her hands are colds, and her fingers are shaking. Carter is with the crowd. They've already changed her name in the registry. She leans against her Mustang Cobra.

"Sooo... 'Asen', today will be a team race so as long as both of us completes the three laps before the opponents, we'd be fine." Kelas said to Vanessa while using her nickname for the race.

"Yeah. We will." Really, she's only saying that to reassure herself. Kelas is already going to do fine. Vanessa is still a rookie. "The race is going to start in a few minutes, so we better head there."

Kelas nodded and got into his car, driving it to the starting line first. Tyrako just watched quietly.

"It seems that Tyrako wouldn't be joining today's race but in particular, a rookie driving a Mustang Cobra!" The announcer said, clearly excited. "Racers, get into your positions! We'll start the race in a minute! If a member of one team doesn't show up or both don't, they will be disqualified!"

Vanessa grips the wheel, focusing her eyes on the task at hand. She needs to win this; not just for herself, but for Kelas and Tyrako. She wants Tyrako to know that she can do this.

"Okay!" The announcer exclaims. "Ready, set, . . . go!"

The gun shot is fired. Vanessa gets a perfect start - something she's mastered only a few hours ago. She flashes past the other cars, trying not to crash.

Kelas also got a perfect start and used the nitro to accelerate quickly. He drifted through the corners skillfully, passing other teams. "Asen! Try to dodge their blocks!" He said as he noticed they were trying to block him too.

Vanessa grits her teeth as she launches the car faster on the road. She needs to catch up to Kelas, so that they can win. She avoids the car lunging right on her side.

Kelas slowed down and blocked their opponents, letting Vanessa to go first. "Asen! Go ahead!" Some of them tried to bump him and get him out of the way but he dodged.

"Thanks!" Vanessa calls. Once she encounters a curve, she shifts her gears, turning the car into a drift. Then, the car settles back into its original position. She pumps on the pedal as the car accelerates.
