Realistic or Modern Stranded (Interest Check)

Darth Revenant

Resident Weirdo
Pretty simple. This - if it gains enough interest -- will be an RP about a group of survivors who wind up stranded on an island. Not a carbon-copy of Lost in that there won't be any secret cities or government conspiracies, but not easy mode because there will be challenges and threats that our characters have to handle. They have to hunt for meat, defend themselves from hostile animals, and find/build/maintain shelter. Same deal as always; if you're interested make a post saying so. Give ideas, feedback, suggestions or comments. I'll set everything up at about three people. So when three people are like, "Yeah. I'm interested." we'll get the ball rolling.

I guess I'd ask how they get stranded, though? A plane crash, boat capsized, misadventures gone wrong, like someone parasailing and had to eject or jetski malfuncturn while going out too far? Just ideas / wonders of mine for how it'd start, I suppose is the best way to explain.

Either way it sounds interesting and I'd love to take part :3

Could be interesting, but there are no natives? Is there escape in the future?

Just floppin onto an island, goin' "Well fuuu, we be lawst." And running around with spears and knives for an eternity bein stalked by wild animals would get old kinda quickly, nej?

I mean, Lost was kinda boring to me, but secrets are always fun in things like this, though they can be interesting through other means.

I guess what I'm asking is: If there aren't secret cities or Lost elements, what are your plans? I am not pushing concepts on you, just a long, drawn out question.

After getting lost, what do?

However the elements in question, I suppose you can always look into concepts/ideas such as a cursed island (like the Burmuda for example), secrets always create a stir...

But to get on track... if I became stranded alone (as stupid as it probably sounds) other than find a place for shelter. I'd search for others people.

Who knows, maybe a old half buried skeleton would appear? Or living person... thing? (Just to add another view on the conversation)

Yes, I'd also look for other life, though they might kill me I'd like to know who else was out there, what else, if anything, have you seen... Mm... Journey to the Lost Island?(Believe that's the name.) It'd be a thing to look at for concept ideas, inspiration and whatnot.

Thank you, @Doorman.

I'm not sure if I have, but if I have its a series on people lost on an island of dinosaurs, right?

Anyways the main question than leads too is if escape is even possible? If it's not than creation of technology/tools/mechanisms... a sanctuary where we know you can survive would have to come in place. Do you constantly travel, like a caravan? Do you hide underground in fox-trenches?

How do you help cope with mental illness? Dispair, disbelief, etc? How do these people, who may have never seen each other once before, come to an aggrement of finding order, who to listen to?

In honesty half, if not more of this could all be incorporated for "drama" so to say, filling in to the rp emotion. The more I read and reply to concepts, ideas and questions the more I want to see this played out

Count me in!

Personally I think it would be more interesting with a general survival theme rather than something fantastical/mysterious. I like the ideas mentioned by Masks of Ayn, "...coping with mental illness" "agreement of finding order". The human nature side of survival with strangers in a stressful scenario like a deserted island is interesting in itself =)

Looking forward to it ^^

Ooooooh!

I want to have a character that was a criminal being taken to a high security prison!

Yas.

Or a lawyer.

YAS.

Maybe both.

A crazy killer who was trying to live a peaceful life in secluded hiding until people show up and one of them he recoginized?!

Ooh or what if the crazy killer is WHY the ppeople ended up stranded? Coincidental/unexplainable events no longer not so unexplainable?

Criminal? ... Lawyer? ... Same thing ;P

Jokes ^^

Ooooh, YAAAAAAASS.

Shit, GTG BBL.

I mean like, multiple characters, it's my thing.

Wait.

Shit.

SKEDADDLING MUST HAPPENING!

How are all these people thrown on an island, though? I kinda like the idea of the crazy killer having something to do with them winding up where they are. OHH, maybe the crazy killer could make a "sport" out of hunting our characters?

Party boat? The sailor got drunk or maybe there was a freak storm and the ship capsized. Most of the passengers were drunk and drowned so we were the few to survive?

Well damn! I didn't expect it to gain this much interest! Let me try to respond to everyone.

1) If y'all want multiple characters, go for it. I advise you stick with two though. You don't need to go all-out and overwhelm yourself before the RP gains any age. I'm going to have a couple myself because I'm not trying to exhaust my writing reserves right out the gate.

2) After reading all the replies (yes I read all of them), it seems there are concerns about how they wind up on the island, and what they'll do from that point onwards. I was thinking a shipwreck. Not sure how I'd orchestrate it though. I'm sure someone will come up with some ideas. Now, someone said that the RP could stagnate if there isn't a bigger, Lost-eqsue picture. They have a point. While I want to focus on characterisation and character-to-character relations -- you know, how they survive, how they deal with the sudden mix of different personalities being thrust into close quarters with others -- there will be more for our characters to do. This RP is based on Survival Kids for Nintendo's Game Boy Color. If you've played the game, you know that there is a bit of mystery, such as the castle, and the large ship held down by gems. The game doesn't really explore these bits much, but they are there and leave room for expansion if someone were to, oh, I don't know, make an RP or something. : )

2.5) So, in addition to having to cooperate with strangers to survive, and defend themselves, there will be a mystery/secretive element to the RP. However, this is more of a role-playing simulation, and is meant to emphasize enjoyment and diversity of choices much like an RPG, rather than a big mystery plot or hidden city like Lost. If anyone is interested in being my co-mod and squaring me away, we can discuss where we want to take this RP, with your input, of course.

I hope that touched one everyone's questions and concerns.

I would only have multiple characters because I like internal character interaction, and when I have one character I tend to be overlooked which is frustrating. Looking forward to a start!

I'll join, this sounds like an interesting rp.

If there is to be an opposing force, why not an indigenous tribe of religious zealots that practice human sacrifice or eat people. I suppose they would live on the opposite side of the island and it would turn into a small war between the survivors and the tribe.

If we want to throw in some fantasy/surreal elements, we could make it so that the tribe worships dark gods and sacrifices those who crash upon the island to the god. Maybe they have a calander given to them by their gods that deems that every fifty years they must sacrifice people upon an altar. Each and every time they sacrifice the people they capture, forty nine years pass with no contact from the outside world, and upon the coming of the last year, people always crash land on the island in one way or another (to add a little bit of fate, perhaps a good mystery for our character to work out as they discover the rements of survivors).

So to sum that up, basically these dark god(s) brought the survivors to the island to give the tribesmen people to sacrifice. The tribe must always sacrifice people upon the coming of the fiftieth year so if they fail they have to sacrifice their own kind, giving them ample motivation to be proactive in the capturing of the survivors.

The tribe has an entire year to capture the survivors so it gives us ample time to just survive and free form, and when the RP needs a little kick to spark it up and provide a story line, we can introduce the tribe.

Also I would suggest a plane for a couple of reasons

1. More people on most planes unless you're talking about cruise ships in which case there are too many people. Commercial ship travel is almost exclusively cruises now, and if it's an industrial vessel it will restrict the types of characters we can have (I doubt everyone wants to be a fisherman or an oil tanker ship hand)

2. More surviving is needed when a plane crashes, when a big ship crashes, well, there is shelter, food, a possible escape if repairs are made, plus radio transmitters, GPS trackers etc. When a plane crashes in the ocean, it's man/woman vs wild with whatever scraps they could dig from the wreckage on the island or the wreckage that washes up on the beach

Also in regards to the makeup of the survivors, IMO there should be many NPC characters. NPCs give our characters a chance to help people, have side story lines or work together with others to show character development, or move the plot along without having to always be interdependent with the schedules and day to day things that people deal with that get in the way of RPing.

If the GM would like I can crank out a whole host of mini CS sheets for NPCs detailing names, appearances and general personality traits to establish a foundation for the survivor group. If the GM is cool with it then everyone could make some NPCs, probably not 20 a piece lol, but certainly enough to give the feeling of a survivor colony instead of a small group of survivors.

(When I say mini CS I mean a paragraph per character with a picture, detailing place of origin, a broad personality type, attitude, skills, flaws and weaknesses, the backgrounds are blank spaces to be filled by us.... if we want to develop NPCs that it)

We would have to agree to be consistent with NPCs though, if a guy is very selfish and your character goes over to him and asks him for the fish he just caught and he says "Sure no problem" with a smile on his face, that's a problem.

This reminds me of Far Cry.

Mm.

That game doh.

Love the concept, even if the idea of this happening scares me I love the concept.

(This be exciting.)

I'd love to discuss ideas with y'all if there's enough people here, just to spark some thoughts, but if not I am just as cool with that and I will return to my character creation~

@HunterJJ Your entire discription just made me think of the new PC game The Forest.

Though only due to the cannibilistic tribe members and their hunt for the survivors. I don't think the game has the dark sorcery and god worship. But that made me go omg!
