It looked like Amiecia had been true to her word. The way was now clear onto the ship, still, there would be guards below decks, and they would have to convince them that they belonged there.
Anna caught the Nevathi boy's smile. "What is that for?" She asked him curiously, and he told them. It was a brilliant idea. "Oh I like that, how fast do you think we could knock them out?"
Larassa produced the gem and Anna grinned. "That was a pretty impressive bit of larceny, lady bounty hunter." Anna praised. She held out her hand for the gem.
"All right. I'll need to get to the engine room to start the takeoff, we need two people to unfurl those sails, someone at the helm and likely someone to help Elnaril make sure the rest of those guards go under. Killerie, Charlie, why don't you some with me to the engine room? I'm sure I could use some help to get things going quickly."
Anna took a deep breath, puffed her chest out and began to strut towards the gangplank like she belonged there. In truth she was simply copying the mechanics that worked on her mother's ships. Confident, with no time for upper-class pomp.
"Those not going the way of the canon port, come with me."
Anna made it onto the deck. So far so good. It looked like the only guards above deck were the ones Amiecia had lured away. Anna made her way to the center of the ship, and the steps that least down into the belly of the ship. Everything was brand new, the polished wood was a deep mahogany brown, lit with electric lamps in ornate frosted glass coverings. There was a blue velvet carpet running the length of the hall. One way lead to the captain's quarters at the rear of the ship, the other to the galley (the kitchen). Anna pointed to another flight of steps to the side of their path.
"That should lead down to the engine room, it should be towards the rear of the ship."

Now to get Elnaril to the galley. Just when she thought they were going to get away without any conflict, a door opened and a guard stepped into the hallway.
"Uh hey, you're not supposed to be--"
"NO?" Anna cut him off loudly. "Listen here, I'm the Imperial mechanic sent to oversee the ship's appearance at the festival. I don't have to explain myself to you. We're already running behind schedule, this tub should have lifted off three minutes ago! The palace does not tolerate errors, especially not on Unity day, do I make myself clear?"
The poor guard tried to collect himself, but Anna wasn't giving him an inch.
"They even assigned a cook to my team, felt bad for you lot having to guard the ship with no refreshments I guess, that's what Imperial kindness gets you, no gratitude at all!"
"W-wait," the guard stammered, "We were told there would be someone coming from the palace. A cook? I'm very sorry miss, please, go on ahead."
He stepped aside and Anna brushed past him. "As you were. I'll have something made for you as soon as possible. Just sit tight, and go tell your buddies to wait in the mess."
The galley was immense, and fully equipped. Copper pans of the finest quality, porcelain-covered cast-iron stew pots, knives that looked like they had never been used. The floors were white marble, as were the counter tops. The pantry was filled with the most exotic ingredients just waiting to be chosen.
"They certainly spared no expense for this ship." Anna marveled. "Will you be okay here by yourself? I should get to the engine room with the others."

Little known to the group, that just outside, striding with purpose out from the palace gates, was the Imperial crew who was actually supposed to take charge of the ship. Their bright red uniforms blazed in the light of the setting sun. It wouldn't be long before they arrived.

Shen stood confidently for a moment, but inside, his mind was racing. They couldn't possibly have found out so quickly could they? That's what he got for making such a scene in the pub. Oh, stars they didn't look friendly.
"We have some questions." One of the guards said. Shen took out his fan and waved it before his face lazily.
"You wish to pay attention to me? Very well I accept."
"You, don't move." The guards said to the others who hadn't left Shen's side after the shop.
"We have reason to believe there's a plot to kidnap a member of the Imperial family."
"Oh, that's awful. Well, if I hear anything, I'll let you know..." Shen tried to move past them but the leader grabbed his arm roughly.
"You're coming with us."
The guard hadn't seen Shen's other hand move. The fan masked it. In a flash Shen twisted the guard's arm, stepped in and shoved him. The guard went careening over Shen's knee and landed in the dust of the alley.
Shen stood over him as the other guards put their hand on their hilts, but the light from Shen's beam saber already cast the scene in a ghostly blue light.
"I'm afraid I don't have time for this. I'm sorry dear ladies, but it looks like I'll be testing your skills a little early in the job...Take them down!"
