Fantasy St. Aymer's Academy for Young Adventurers

Gormon turned to face his new recruits, frowning. "Is this all we could come up with?" he barked. "My grandmother's more fit to be a warrior than you lot." the man spat. "If I'm going to make you all into the strongest, toughest warriors of our generation, you'd better be willing to work hard and not complain. You," he said, pointing to one of them. "Come here."

Helartha smirked.
"Well, look at what we've got here." She took a step forward. "So. You think you got what is takes to be a rogue?" She looked around at all the young faces. "I can tell you right now. You most absolutely do. That's why you're here, aren't ya?" The woman laughed and glanced at one of the students. "Hey, you. Yeah, you. What's your name, kid?"

Headmistress Helarthiia smiled warmly as the children approached her.
"Greetings, young ones." she said, clasping her slender hands before her formally. "It is truly a pleasure to have you all here today. One day you shall all become great and powerful mages, and this is where it shall all begin." The woman's eyes rested on one child. "What is your name, young one?"

[Who are the teachers talking to?]

In response to Sir Gormon's request, Dahlia stepped forward. And while she thought that if Gormon was any indication, his grandma would have been one of the Aymer herself, she said nothing. It would not be polite.

Saida gave a small bow to Helartha and said: "Saida, mistress."

"Name, lass." It was an order, not a question. Gormon squinted at the girl. She seemed a good example. But he needed an opposite example as well. He turned his head. "Zelphar!" he called, "Come here, you lowly dog!" The man turned back, not waiting for a response from the boy. He'd come. If he didn't, he'd get in big trouble, and Sir Gormon wasn't one you wanted to get in trouble with.

"Saida," Helartha repeated, raising an eyebrow. "Hm. Well, Saida. Lemme see your knife." She held out her hand expectantly, waiting for the girl to oblige. "Y'know, to use as an example. And don't worry," she joked, smirking. "I ain't gonna hurt anybody. And certainly not kill anyone. After all, how're ya gonna learn if you're dead?"

"Dahlia." She internally winced at hearing her new friend being called a lowly dog, but, again, she said nothing.

Saida internally debated on exactly
which knife the teacher meant. She quickly reached a decision and handed the teacher a small knife that she kept in her belt.

"Zelphar! Come here, you lowly dog!" Zelphar heard his name being called, and his head shot up. It sounded like Sir Gormon. Of course it was. The boy hurried over beside the warrior man dutifully, a bit out of breath, but nonetheless, he was there. "Yes sir?" he bowed his head respectfully, as he always did. It was custom.

The boy caught sight of Dahlia and willed himself not to wave at her. He did smile, though, and also smiled when he took notice of Saida nearby. She was with Lady Helartha, of course, and seemed to be talking about knives or something. The only word he really picked up was 'dead', but he figured he shouldn't jump to conclusions.

"There you are," Gormon said, glaring at Zelphar. The boy didn't flinch. "I want you to stand next to Dahlia here." Zelphar nodded and did so, taking his place beside the warrior girl. "Dahlia, stand next to him." Gormon pointed at Zelphar, almost in an accusing way. "I'm about to show you something. So keep your mouth pipes shut. Got it?"

Meanwhile, Helartha took the knife and then beckoned with her finger.
"Now the rest of them too." She smirked at the young girl. As if something like this was going to slip past her. "I want to see every single one of them in my hand before I count to ten." She raised an eyebrow. "One. Two. Three. Four..."

Keeping her mouth shut was what Dahlia did all day. It wasn't much trouble, and she was silent as she stood next to Zelphar.

Saida muttered: "I may need more time" and then set about divesting herself of weaponry. It did take a bit more than the count to ten, but this was less a factor of Saida's slow working than the amount of knives she had on her person (as well as where she had hidden them. Some of her knives were designed for remaining hidden even through a thorough search, not ease of getting free). There was a small pile.

Jason stayed silent on the warriors side he was strong to hold three blades on his back but he wanted to just learn to fight better nothing more.

Justin sighed he sometimes wanted to kill them to test their strength but he knew they over powered him. Justin stayed focus and looked at the headmistress without flinching. "Well, my name is Justin and I'm here to help get stronger, smarter, and more in control of my powers."

"You see this?" Gormon barked, pointing at the two children. He glanced at one of the boys of his group (( bump )) and stuck out his finger. "You, tell me what you see here." The man knew exactly what he saw, but he wanted to make sure all of his new found warrior students would be able to understand the lesson as well.

Lady Helartha examined the small pile of knives Saida had placed in her open palm. She looked at the girl.
"Ya got any more on ya?" she asked, raising an eyebrow playfully. "You've already gotta whole lot of 'em here, but I wanna make sure that's it." There was no point in lying to the woman, She would know, regardless.

"That is good," Headmistress Malruthiia nodded. "Now, Justin, would you care to demonstrate a spell for us? It doesn't have to be a powerful one or anything fancy; just any spell you like." The woman smiled thoughtfully and awaited the boy's response. She loved watching magic as it slowly blossomed from the youngest of pupils.

He nodded and made a circle of fire and sighed they looked like white fire and smiled. "This is what I call eternal fire." He said but it soon died out "but as you can see I can't keep it in place long because I can't control it."

Saida considered that, and removed some razor wire from her sleeves. After she did that, she touched the symbol on her headband. It fell into her hand and was revealed as a throwing star, which she then gave to her teacher. She shrugged and said: "It pays to be readier than your opponent."

"I see," Headmistress Malruthiia said, nodding. "Very impressive, young one. I can tell you've been practicing for quite a while." The woman smiled and held out her staff for the students to see. "While some magic can be performed as Justin demonstrated, some magic is required the use of a staff, like mine here."

"That it does, Saida." Lady Helartha smirked, examining the pile of blades in her hand. "Now, why did you give all of these to me?" she asked, looking at the girl with an innocent yet serious face. This was all a part of the woman's lesson, and she wanted to make sure the students (and Saida in particular) remembered it.

"What are staffs useful for?" He asked her and sighed. He never knew the headmistress was able to use magic. He sighed and wondered if she was the strongest mage ever existing.

"Well, Justin," Headmistress Malruthiia smiled, "staffs can harness magic to a higher ability, as well as create more powerful spells. They are also useful when you cannot rely on magic, when you must use it as a weapon in itself." She pointed to the crystal embedded at the top of her staff, showing it to the students. "Does anyone know what this is?" she asked.

The gem in question was of a pale bluish color, though it was transparent, revealing the small glowing orb of condensed magic. It swirled around inside the staff, and it glowed faintly with power. The orb flickered and sparkled like sunlight on a diamond, and the woman glanced at the faces in the crowd expectantly.

"That's a magic orb that can hold a lot of magic I heard legends about those but the legend said they were all destroyed." He said and wondered if it was true or not.

"Well, Justin," Headmistress Malruthiia laughed, "no, but you are quite close. This is a magic crystal. Every mage staff contains one, big or small. Mine in particular is larger than most, but you shall all receive one when you create your staff. What is inside is not a magical orb, it is only your staff's energy level. In other words, you cannot use your staff endlessly. It must recharge once in a while."

The woman shook her head.
"Magic orbs are not entirely destroyed, however, Justin, they are only rare. In fact, we have one at the academy. It fuels the whole place and results in light during the night, and the protection of our force fields. It is very powerful, however, and if you were to touch it, it is likely the power would... overwhelm one such as yourselves." She didn't dare say 'kill'.

"Because you asked."

Saida felt that that was a stupid question.

Headmistress Malruthiia shot Justin a look. He sure did love to talk. Unfortunately, she didn't have the time for nonsensical blabbing at the moment. "Anyway," she sighed, "later in the year you shall forge your own personal staffs, once you have learned powerful enough spells to need one." She laughed.

"Exactly." Helartha said, stabbing Saida's chest with her pointer finger. "But whaddya owe me? That's right. Nothing. Don't let people trick ya into stuff. I didn't even have to threaten ya and you just handed over all your knives. No doubt you've got something other than a knife on ya, but still." The woman shook her head. "You gotta keep your game up."

[ I'm gonna go swimming; see y'all later! ;) ]
