Fantasy St. Aymer's Academy for Young Adventurers

xXxKateKaysxXx

Professional Fangirl

~~~~~~~~~~
Once upon a time, as legend tells, there were three young adventurers. There
was Ralnor, the tough, hard-headed warrior, Hagen, the clever, sneaky rogue, and
Conall, the wise and resourceful mage. Together, the three vanquished the Drannor,
creatures who served the dragon lord, Ralikanthae.
Afterwards, they were declared as heroes, and were titled the Aymer, in honor.
Two centuries later, the academy, 'St. Aymer's Academy for Young Adventurers', was
opened, as a training center for young individuals, if there should ever be a similar
crisis.
Every year, a representative from the academy comes into every town and village,
and selects several children to attend, after inspecting their abilities and heart.
This prompts the question if the children wish to come to the academy, or stay
with their families in their hometown, to which some say yes and others no.
The question for you now is:
Come or stay?
**************************************************
RULES
**************************************************
1.) No Mary-Sues or Gary Stus!
No one's perfect! ;)
2.) Absolutely no god-moding!
Or if you have okay'ed it with the author, please tell me as well! But no
perfect-hitting every time; they're still kids, and they're definitely not perfect! =P
3.) Use proper grammar!
Basically, don't write like this:
' *jumps up " so he sed "were r we goin too nao" '
Try this instead:
' He jumped to his feet, enthusiastic. "So," he beamed, glancing
around at the others, "where are we going to now?" '
Ahh, much better! =D
4.) No one-liners!
Try to go for three lines (at least) if possible, just to give everyone else
something to work with! If you need help, feel free to ask me! I don't
bite! =D
5.) Don't spam the thread!
Basically, don't keep posting until someone responds. If you need to
add something to your post, just edit! ;)
6.) No sexy times!
This should be obvious.
7.) Limit is two characters!
Well, recommended, anyway. One is great, two is fine, and three? If you
think you can manage it! ;D
8.) Obviously follow all RpN rules!
I don't need to list these...
And finally...
Have fun!
******************************
Dictionary
(in progress; will be updated as the rp progresses)
******************************
Aymer - The title given to the three heroes, meaning 'Light(s) of Dawn'.
Conall - The mage of the Aymer, representing magic and sometimes
pride, though with great wisdom and power.
Dragon - Great lizard-like, winged creatures that can live for thousands
of years. They can range in size, and small ones can be used as pets, if
they are trained. Typically, they are known for breathing fire, but some also
breathe ice, etc. They can speak in their own language (which cannot be
understood by anyone unless you are a dragon), as well as Multai, which is a
language that sounds like to you whatever language you speak the most fluently.
The most well-known dragon is Ralikanthae, whose followers, the Drannor,
were vanquished by the Aymer centuries ago.
Drannor - Creatures including (but not limited to) orcs,
goblins, ogres, trolls, etc. who serve Ralikanthae. Can also
include humans, elves, or dwarves, etc.
Dwarves - Small stout creatures known for their brute strength
and creativity through creating items such as weapons, armor,
and even small toys or other inventions. They are known for being
good Warriors.
Elves - Taller and slender than humans, they are commonly known
for their knowledge (and also their know-it-all attitude) and their
mystical nature. They tend to live for hundreds of years, typically to
900 if they're lucky. They are known for being good Mages.
Goblins - Small, ugly creatures who tend to live in dark places
such as caves and are known for their odd magic and sorcery.
Hagen - The rogue of the Aymer, representing cleverness and sometimes
deceit, though with great cunning and wit.
Humans - Known as one of the lesser races, they are not particularly 'good'
at anything physically, though they are inventive and resourceful, and can
prove many people wrong. They are remembered for their personalities,
and are also the most common of races. The are known for being good rogues.
Ogres -
Similar to Goblins, though larger and more used to using their brute
strength than magic or high-tech (or as high-tech as you can get in this world)
machinery.
Orcs - While bigger than humans, they are smaller than Trolls and are
actually known for being cleverer than some of the other races. They like
to invent various creations, usually torture devices or weapons.
Ralikanthae - The mighty dragon lord that created the Drannor, who
were vanquished centuries ago.
Ralnor - The warrior of the Aymer, representing strength and
sometimes stubbornness, though with great loyalty and force.
Trolls - Huge creatures who, when tamed, can be used in a similar
way as an ox or a workhorse. They are known for being rather.. well,
dumb... but they do know what they want, and know what they have
to do to get it.
Headmistress Malruthiia let out a deep breath and lifted a hand to fix her hair. She had been teaching at 'St. Aymer's Academy for Young Adventurers' for almost one-hunded-and-twenty years, but still, every semester felt like her first time. She shook her head, smiling to herself. This year was going to be just like the others.
She examined the large floating 'portal' type thing before her, which served as her window into the students' worlds. She smiled to herself and watched the young adventurers wander around the premises, all around curious about the place. She turned away and gazed out of the window. The view from here was stunning, and she was lost in it for some time.
A knock at the door startled her from her thoughts, and she turned around.
"Come in," she said in response, putting on her traditional Headmistress expression. She couldn't always be herself in front of the students if she was to show authority. One of the servants entered, informing her that the meeting for the new students would be beginning soon.
Malruthiia nodded in understanding, and the servant left after a respectful and reverent bow. She took another deep breath and prepared herself for the up-and-coming year. She had a feeling this was going to be a year to remember, but in the back of her head she reminded herself she thought that every year, and this was going to be just like the others.
///
Zelphar was cleaning the windows when he heard the carriages approaching. He had almost forgot-- today was the day the new students arrived! He hoped everyone had gotten here safely, and by the looks of it, they had. He gave a hopeful smile, wondering if the students he had chosen would recognize him. It had been at least two weeks since he had seen them.
He caught a glimpse of them, all together, talking and laughing as they walked up to the entrance. Zelphar waved to them excitedly, desperately hoping they would at least smile and wave back, if not speak to him. Unfortunately, his exuberant movement caught him off balance, and he could feel himself start to fall.
"W-woah!" the boy cried, before the ladder toppled over. He landed in the thorny rose bushes below, inevitably scratching himself up. He got up as quickly as he could, brushing himself off. He looked up excitedly... only to see the students he had chosen walk on by, obviously trying to ignore him, as if he was an embarrassment to them and they didn't want to be associated with him. The boy's heart sank.
He had hoped this year would be different. Special, even. He had hoped maybe this year he would actually make friends and enjoy himself here. He wished he could be a student, but he hadn't been picked, and so there was nothing he could do about it. In the end, he knew, as he had known every year before, this year was going to be just like the others.
Both Saida and Dahlia noticed the boy fall, and both rushed over to help, although for different reasons. Saida wanted to make a friend at school. She well knew how necessary friends could be.
Dahlia didn't want friends. For Traveling Monks, they were uncommon, as the Monks never stayed in one place for very long. But, it was against her personal code to leave anyone in such bad shape, and she couldn't call herself a Traveling Monk if she didn't aid people in need.
The girls worked together to haul Zelphar out of the rosebushes.
Saida said: "Well, that was a misadventure. What's your name, and why aren't you with the students?"
Zelphar's eyes widened as two girls suddenly rushed forward towards him. He expected them to ask for something, maybe directions or for him to help with some dirty job. He got up, dusting himself off with his gloved hands, and tried to look as presentable as possible. They were both new students, by the looks.
"Well," said one, "that was a misadventure." Zelphar assumed she was speaking to the other girl, who hadn't said a word, as they helped him from the thorny rosebushes. The fact that they were assisting him at all was confusing, but still, he wasn't about to protest. "What's your name, and why aren't you with the students?"
Zelphar would have given her a confused look, if he wasn't on duty. It would seem she was talking to him, but no one ever talked to him. He was nervous to respond. If she had been talking to someone else, it would only make it awkward for himself. He pointed at himself, silently asking, 'Me?' with his expressions.
A confused Saida, who really didn't see the reason that the boy should be unsure, confirmed: "Yes, you. What's your name, and why aren't you with the students?"
Dahlia still said nothing. She could see that this boy was unused to kindness of any kind, and that was unacceptable wherever there was a Traveling Monk around.
The girl who had spoken made a rather confused look. "Yes, you." she said, and Zelphar barely managed to hold down an excited, 'Really?' He couldn't be acting informal while he was on duty. It wasn't professional. "What's your name, and why aren't you with the students?" the elf repeated, and Zelphar hesitated.
"My name is Zelphar," he admitted finally, willing himself not to look down. He tried to keep the conversation going; if this was the only one he was ever going to have, he was going to treasure it for as long as he could. "What are you names?" he asked, looking from the elf to the human. The human had still said nothing.
Zelphar wasn't sure if these two girls were actually being nice to him, or if this was just some kind of prank. That had happened before too, albeit once, but still. A group of kids much older than himself had tricked him into being at the wrong place a the wrong time, and he'd ended up getting in trouble for something he didn't do.
[both of them are human.]
"I'm Saida. Zelphar is a cool name. And you... what is your name (speaking to Dahlia)"
Dahlia said: "Dahlia."
"Wow. Dahlia. That's an odd name... but it's cool, nonetheless!"
[Oops, sorry!]
"I'm Saida," said the talkative one. "Zelphar is a cool name." The boy smiled a little at the compliment. "So is Saida," he said back, before she turned to the other girl. "And you... what is your name?" The other one simply stated, "Dahlia." Well, Dahlia didn't talk very much, did she? "Wow." Saida stared. "Dahlia. That's an odd name... but it's cool, nonetheless!"
Zelphar agreed and nodded to show it. He then remembered Saida's earlier question and decided it would be best to answer it.
"I'm not with the students because I'm not a student." he shrugged. He figured they would have known already, considering the fact that he was washing the windows and didn't have any belongings on him.
"I'm a worker." He couldn't lie to them and say he was a student. Then they might not want to be his friends, and he'd be right back where he was. But now he figured they would grimace and walk away, after knowing he wasn't one of them. He sighed and tried not to stare down at his shoes, which were now all dirty.
Justin sighed he was exhausted he wanted to learn dark magic but he didn't tell anyone. He walked into the doors and he prepared for anything.
Jason smirked he was known as strong but he didn't admit it he had two blades on him and one big heavy sword too. He sighed and looked at the sky then entered and looked around the place
Saida thought that that was a good thing. Befriending the staff would give her the protection of their influence. Dahlia just didn't care. Both girls thought that he really needed some friends, and both girls were determined to provide them.
"Oh, that explains a lot. It's also no excuse to stay in those rosebushes. The thorns must be hurting you. By the way, could you show me around inside, please?"
[ @wizard justin Oh sorry I'm a noob =P ]
"Oh," Saida said, "that explains a lot." Zelphar bit his lip in anticipation. "It's also no excuse to stay in those rosebushes. The thorns must be hurting you." The boy shrugged mentally. It wasn't too bad; he had a pretty high pain tolerance level. "By the way, could you show me around inside, please?" Saida asked.
Zelphar would have raised an eyebrow if not for his predicament.
"Of course, Miss Saida. Do you want me to take your belongings?" It was the usual routine for welcoming new students-- taking their belongings and showing them to their rooms. Typically, the children weren't allowed to bring anything other than clothing, unless it was absolutely necessary.
They were also not permitted to use any sort of magic or weaponry outside of class, aside from training, but still, then, it was supervised and took place in a large arena-type dome. The dome was made entirely of a magical forcefield, held up by Headmistress Malruthiia. A similar field surrounded the school, making it impenetrable to enemies.
///
Headmistress Malruthiia continued to watch the students slowly flood into the school, always interested in their different personalities. Some were more secretive (not that anything they were trying to hide she didn't already know), while others were more open and confident. Her watchful eye caught sight of a commotion just outside the doors.
It was Zelphar, of course. That boy was usually the least of her concerns, but for the past few weeks he had been very excited, seeing as today was the day the students he had chosen would arrive. Malruthiia had been happy for him; he almost never got to interact with children his own age, and this year had been the first time she'd let him choose students.
She caught sight of him talking to two human girls (Saida and Dahlia, if she remembered correctly), after seemingly having fallen into the rose bushes. The woman rolled her eyes fondly. However, there was no time for pleasantries. She felt bad having to pull the boy away like this, but it was her duty, after all.
"All students please report to the training dome," she boomed throughout the campus.
"All students please report to the training dome," she boomed throughout the campus.
"Call me Saida. Calling me "miss" before I'm even a Lady sounds really stupid. And I can carry my own stuff, but thank you."
What Saida did not mention was that she didn't want him to notice all the varied small weaponry that she had hidden in her stuff. It always paid to be prepared. As her mother had taught her, one of a Rogue's greatest weapons was the ability to be ready to fight when nobody else knew that fact.
Upon hearing the Headmistress's announcement, Dahlia interrupted the two.
"We have to go. Will you come with us to show the way?"
"Call me Saida," the girl insisted. "Calling me 'miss' before I'm even a Lady sounds really stupid." Zelphar cringed internally. "Sorry," he said, "...Saida, but it's regulation." "And I can carry my own stuff, but thank you." "That's... well, alright... just don't let any of the workers catch you with it. It's also regulation."
A familiar feminine voice was suddenly heard throughout the place, no doubt by amplification magic, and it was obvious Headmistress Malruthiia was making an announcement.
"All students please report to the training dome," she said, and Zelphar felt his heart sink. "I suppose you'll have to wait for that until later."
"We have to go." Dahlia said. "Will you come with us to show the way?" Zelpha hesitated. "I suppose so, though I'll have to leave once the presentation begins." Servants weren't allowed to be in with the students during times like this. Instead, they were usually to stay near the Headmistress for her needs.
Saida silently relaxed when the danger of being caught without her myriad pieces of 'insurance' passed, and she didn't even get internally annoyed that she now had to be called 'miss'. She followed Dahlia and Zelphar to the training dome, wondering what would happen once she was there.
And how she could sneak past regulations to get Zelphar in.
Zelphar approached the dome cautiously, before turning to face Saida and Dahlia. "Well, here we are." he said, smiling. "Like I said, I can't go inside, but I wish you the best of luck!" Many other students began to flood past them, and the boy was knocked to the ground. He landed with a grunt before scrambling to get out of the way.
"I'll meet up with you two later," he called over the noise of the chattering, adolescent crowd. He hoped the had heard him, because he really had to get going. He hurried off to meet with the other servants and workers, to prepare for the ceremony. He scampered through the mob of students, trying to stay out of the way.
Finally, he found himself at the place where he was supposed to be. He knocked on the door three times in a row, followed by a single knock. A voice in his head whispered,
'Come, servant, speak, and you shall find which you seek.' Zelphar routinely thought in his head the password, before the door opened and he went inside.
///
Headmistress Malruthiia took a deep breath and prepared herself for her welcoming of the students this year. She wore an elegant yet easy-to-move-in dress, and her hair was pulled back, as it usually was. She picked up her staff and put on her formal headmistress face, before turning to one of the servants and nodding. She was ready.
The dome now fastened itself; there was no getting in or out for the students. The multitude of them stood on the huge grassy plain, and were obviously waiting for their headmistress. She wasn't about to keep them waiting.
"Students," she said, as a projection of her appeared upon the field. It was similar to a hologram, though she could interact with objects. Holographic magic.
"Today marks the 500th year of St. Aymer's Academy's existence, and I can honestly say this marks a great achievement. Today is also the first day of the school year, and I'm very pleased to have you all in attendance. My name is Headmistress Malruthiia. Today you will be assigned your classes, by a series of tests..." This was the fun part.
Saida played with a small gem sewn into her collar, seemingly a decoration. It was pretty, but it wasn't just flash- she'd tagged Zelphar with one of its companion pieces, and as long as he carried it with him (which meant, as long as he wore the outfit with the pocket that she'd slipped the piece into, she'd be able to scry on him. It was a magical item much sought-after by rogues, and Lai Smith, once she'd heard that her daughter was going to the Academy, had given it to her, along with many other rogue tricks. Now, she could be sure of finding Zelphar again.
Dahlia gripped her staff in anticipation of what was to come, and murmured a prayer. A Traveling Monk never went without his/her staff. It was the sign of their piety, an aid in their travels, and the emblem of their order. They weren't bad at fending off creeps with it, too. If it came to a all- or-die-fight, it could be easily fitted with blades. The school had taken away Dahlia's staff-blades, but after much pleading, they'd allowed her to keep her staff, at least for non-class purposes.
"Those who wish to become warriors, please join Sir Gormon near the left of the training dome." Sir Gormon, a tall, bearded man raised his hand high up, so the students could see him. He beckoned with it, his mouth nothing more than a thin line. His eyebrows were furrowed, and overall he didn't look like a very jokey man.
"If you wish to become a rogue, please join Lady Helartha to the right of the training dome." Lady Helartha was smirking, and also raised her hand. She had her burgundy hair pulled back into a small ponytail, for it wasn't very long to begin with. Her eyes were playful yet strong, and she seemed almost the trouble-making type, back when she was younger.
"And finally, if you believe yourself to become a mage, you shall come forward to me, for I shall be your teacher." Headmistress Malruthiia smiled warmly, and if one didn't know any better, she may seem like a kind old woman. However, for one who knew her, she was most definitely not to be messed with.
Saida walked over to Lady Helartha. She hoped that she would teach her well. She thought she vaguely recognized her, but wasn't quite sure.
Dahlia walked over to Sir Gormon. She knew him only as her teacher, and didn't have anything on him that she held back just in case. Warriors had it so much simpler than Rogues.
[ @EmilyPower All the students have gathered in the training dome and are being sorted into their classes (warrior, mage, rogue) ;) @ActionPony Lol it's fine I was just confused... =P And not atm but I will in a sec hopefully... ;D ]
Elizabeth walked around the school looking for the training dome. She was already late and a bit lost, not a great first day. Elizabeth finally found the dome and stepped inside waiting for instructions
[ Actually, Elizabeth should already be inside-- the dome's been fastened so there's no getting in or out... I figure you can read three pages to catch up ;) Also btw here's a picture reference for Helartha --->
And here's one for Gormon --->
Justin sighed as he entered the dome he heard the orders and walked forward to the headmistress he thought she would be hard on them but he didn't care.
Jason sighed back kept walking until he arrived at the dome and knew where to go. He walked to Sir Gormon and made a goal go be stronger
