I love Discords. They always make things so much more convenient and always make communication easier. Not to mention they pretty much always help bring a more personal connection to the RP since it's such good social platform.

I don't mind whichever but I can understand the concern of newer players having no idea what's going on alongside the lack of productivity rp wise. One of the recent rps I fell into was way too expansionary and it got away from the person running it because there was A LOT going on. As long as you keep it tight and make sure to update the OOC as well I don't see any problems with a discord group.

Until we start having people go MIA. I've never seen an rp where this doesn't happen eventually. And then when it does, in an rp that relies on partnerships like this one does, new blood becomes necessary.

Kinda hard to hold down the fort when other people are elsewhere plotting too quickly for me to keep up with things. At least here, if you miss stuff, its easy enough to go back and read things without being bombarded with alerts and being told you're looking at old messages that really only happened a couple hours ago.

There's also the fact that discord chats run a lot faster than OOC chats on the site because of how the chat service works. Since you see the comments in real-time, it makes it harder to address one issue at a time and all that. Discord can help people become better friends because they can talk more casually, but I would highly recommend keeping RP related topics and questions relegated to the OOC. That would make it easier for both the moderators and new players coming in. Its easier to reference something here then to have to scroll through a black hole of discord comments to find something.
