The souls were theirs to consume, and Noah let Arkayis have the Baroness’s double’s soul, while he took her weapon’s. He had actually heard of the proper way to take in a soul after reviewing some classes he took ages ago (really felt like a long time), and he brought it into his body, letting its essence slowly yet surely integrate with his own.
Despite this not being a witch soul, he still saw flashes and glimpses of her life. It wasn't intense, and the emotions were muted, but he got the picture. A frightened girl, confused, alone, scared, in a time period where it was harsh with nary a technology to make living better. She was abducted, put into the slave market, found her weapon form, and saw the Baroness later, where she became her personal servant and a vampire? Thrall? Noah didn't know the difference. The emotions of fear, but determination and having a purpose came, then its sorrow near the end.
He didn't know what to feel. It was surely not as intense as a witch's, but this one... Regardless of its intensity, he felt so sorry for this poor girl. Then he realized... It could've been him. An orphaned kid, losing his home, being a weapon, and-... If the DWMA hadn't taken him in, he wondered just what would've happened to him, especially in Portland, Oregon of all places.
He didn't want to think of it.
Once they were done with consuming the souls, Noah turned and saw the destruction they wrought upon the village and felt a pang of regret hit his heart.
They were no different from the damned terrorists back on that fateful day. What made them any different? He felt horrible for not reigning in Gauss, but what were they to do? They had no choice, did they?
Maybe there could’ve been another way that was less destructive…
Feeling guilt wrack his heart and with resolve, he set out to fix the damages they burned, by emulating what he saw that fateful day - setting up triage, delegating where the supplies went, getting injured to a specific spot, and things just worked. Once there was a nudge into the right direction, order just seemed to fall into place like pieces of a puzzle. He didn’t need to be a triage captain for long once people started understanding what to do. It felt powerful, exhilarating. While he did fuck up a few times in what he was doing, he quickly amended them. Even with a language barrier, actions spoke louder than words. It took a bit of charading, but they understood.
After making sure everyone was settled and knew what they were doing, Noah reconvened with everyone and was debating whether he should zap Gauss on the back for his irritation. The thought of him wanting to be upset with him but couldn’t was a funny thought. He stood beside Gauss, raised his hand until it was inches from Gauss’s back, and zapped him with his Healing Wavelength to calm him down a little. Not enough to completely rein back his anger, but enough for him to - hopefully - not be so explosive.
Noah knew it was better to get the anger out somewhere, sometime, but this wasn’t the time for it.
Elly explained what she saw and Noah sighed. “She may not be ready to sail in the ocean, but’re we ready to take on her ‘n’ whoever else’s likely with ‘er?” Noah asked, his brow furrowed. “Unless ya think we can just follow ‘er till sunrise ‘n’ ambush ‘er then.” He then sighted the castle and narrowed his eyes at it. “If ya think it's too late now 'r we can't handle it, ya think that thing’s got some clues as to where she’d be headin’ ta next? Or other clues as to how she’d operate?” He nodded his head towards the castle, his interest now piqued. “I figured if she wanted us in the castle to begin with, she’d have traps ‘n’ guardians. Even then, not sure if we’re in the best states to go castle crackin’.” There were just so many things they could be doing right now. Chase after the vampire, go search her now abandoned castle for clues and how she functioned to better find her later, or just go back home.
Honestly, he prefered the third option.
