Attack on Titan

Desperation

In the year 827 a blow was dealt heavily to the remants of humanity trapped behind the walls. A blow dealt by not by a titan but one of their own. Ebeneezer Gray, a resident of one of the outer wall districts and long time recognized batty coot, had been studying a way of accelerating crop growth for humanity in itself, thinking that if he could ensure food for all that things would get better behind the walls. The formula worked in a controlled environment, accelerating wheat growth considerably.

Ebeneezer, in frantic excitement, failed to test his formula in an uncontrolled environment, choosing rather to rush out that very minute and test it on a wider scale upon the crops of the outer districts. It was here that the blow was dealt, as in theory the formula would work, it’s only testing having been in a controlled environment was the fatal mistake. Released upon a field of wheat to nature, countless organisms and other biological things to mutate it quickly took hold. Ebeneezer’s hope would soon become humanities downfall as the serum mutated and, rather than accelerating growth, acted directly opposite, killing the crop. But it did not end there.

It spread to the air, killing wheat crops slowly over time. Ebeneezer was executed for his blunder, and most of the wheat crop burned. But that would not stop it, as over the next 23 years the serum would mutate further, taking hold of a new crop each time. Now, in the year 250, humanity lays once again upon the brink of extinction, and this time at their own hands. The last crops of humanity have began to show signs of the serum setting in, and humanity has no where to turn but out.

In desperation the scout regiment has been ordered to go beyond the walls far and wide, searching for anything that can save them. The order is one of desperation. Many know they will not return, but they go all the same, knowing that if they do not then there is no chance for humanity...
