Other Shit I've had happen during roleplays

What are some things that your roleplay partners have done that just piss you off? 'ave a rant

For me, one of the things that really gets me is when my roleplay partner tries to overbearingly control everything in the roleplay. Like, they want to tell you how to reply, what to put in your reply, what to have your character say, and shit like that. I've really had this happen and it pisses me off. I once had somebody stop roleplaying with me because I DARED to suggest an idea that didn't align with her idea. Like, I'm sorry, princess, but roleplays are a joint effort. If you want it to be a certain way, write a damn book, twat.

Another thing that I can't stand is when someone criticizes your style or choice of characters. Like, when someone criticizes my choice to only roleplay using male characters despite being female in real life. OH, excuse me, I didn't realize that MY character was going to be YOUR choice! Jog on. I also once had someone tell me that my style of writing is wrong. Even though it is entirely subjective and depends on the person.

Also, Grammar Nazis. This is simple: if you are an Einstein for grammar, that's peachy for you, but MOST people are not, so shut your pie hole, Sally! ONE MISTAKE in the position of a fucking comma is not reason enough to call someone a retard! (really happened.)

I've had someone bump the roleplay in an aggressive manner after two hours of me not replying because I was busy.

"Hello??? Why aren't you posting?? Hurry up."

When I was young + an absolute pushover, someone begged to join my obviously labelled private roleplay I had with a friend. It all went downhill as they took over the story and it just came to a dead stop not long after. It was fun while it lasted :/
I was also in a few roleplays where people went overboard with romance stories in life or death scenarios and apocalyptic settings, so rip.

i was cussed out extensively because I was disinterested in shipping my character with another person's character in a group fantasy roleplay. i mean, this person took time out of their day to message me with three full paragraphs detailing all the ways i was a horrible person.

please keep in mind that the character's bio clearly stated that m/c was aromantic from the very beginning.
also their oc was one of those sorts who constantly got kidnapped and were helpless every time conflict happened so even if he wasn't aromantic, the answer still would have been no.

Slight trigger warning: I was on my friends fantasy/slice of life server and this guy, keep in mind that he had been RPing with someone that was very sensitive about ERP, and he had been there long enough to know this. Back then i was really bad at saying no about stuff so my most wholesome character (She was about 300 years old but she was very childish) kind of got forced into a non-consensual ERP with a villain that he was introducing (She was also a forest spirit kind of thing so she was made of wood). His only excuse was, and i quote "I want him to have a joker like intro" I didnt know the joker did that but ok then. Being a mod of the server the person that was sensitive about that kind of stuff contacted me and he eventually left the server, but dear lord he was a pain in the butt

There was one time where I was in this roleplay with a person and we had literally started it that day. We were a few replies in because we both replied pretty quickly, and then I had to stop because I was going out with some friends (I'm an adult, I have a life) and not even an hour after this persons last reply, I get a message that says "Hey, are you dropping this RP? Just wondering. I'm cleaning out my PM's and wanted to know."

Yikes.

It was a mess

A couple times I've had people know that I am busy and will not reply right away and yet they still freak out when I don't reply right away. I'm sorry I had to go to a school football game because I'm in marching band.

I’ve had to wait three day for a person to get me their character sheet. I sent them reminders, and they gave me the love rating on them, but never got it to me. Needless to say, I don’t like to beg for replies, especially when I can see that you’re posting elsewhere to other RPs.

On one specific day during a winter, i got bored and looked for creating a villain character. I look around and a certain fighting character comes across my mind (Hazama). So i decide to use them as inspiration for a villain... D-bag, check. Fancy, check. Everything else was mostly different. I ask a friend to test out this character and they are willing to do so. Before it starts, i say "Hey, this character is kind of a dick" and they reply "Oh, it's gonna be fine". In the middle of the rp while my character is hiding the personal diary of my partner's character, he just decides "Dude, stop being such a dick".
I could hit them in the head with a stop sign and they'll keep going, bending the sign

ooooof i used to rp ouma from ndrv3 a lot and the thing i hate MOST is when rpers let their ooc knowledge of the character bleed into the rp. like ie: ouma makes a harmless joke and other people threaten to beat him up for it(????) just because they know him as the "chaotic character". i tried to play him off as fairly innocent (without heckling anyone too bad) with the intention of having him gather information behind the scenes before completely turncoting and revealing his "true nature".

suffice to say i ended up leaving because people kept threatening to hurt/kill him ic for doing mundane things. ive even had like... around 5 people threaten to kill him... just because he revealed someone in their midst was a serial killer

makes it super hard to do anything interesting with him

Not sure if this entirely counts. But back in the day I used to RP on huge chat servers. And who knew 3rd wheeling in RP was definitely a thing. There was a user who if I ended up in a room with one other person would always OOCly ask me to leave for no other reason (and I quote) than "dude can u not I'm just trying to get my character laid man."

INCLUSIVITY.

I hate this. the very reason I don't roleplay in groups. I did it once, never again.

this is where I will live from now on. the number of things I could rant about... I’ll just stick to the worst one I can remember for the sake of not flooding the thread with my endless prattle xD

So I’ve never really done one liner roleplays nor first person, it just wasn’t for me. But one day I find a plot that I’m interested in, so I give it a try because I don’t mind compromising if it’s a good idea. Long story short, I lost my interest after a few months but kept forcing myself to vomit up short-ass replies that steadily declined in quality as I went. I somehow convinced myself that I couldn’t drop it for a long time because my partner was really into it, so I just.. Rolled with it. Another month of that destroyed my muse for literally every other RP I had going at the time, so I couldn’t reply to anyone anymore and finally stopped. I explained myself, said sorry and that I’d try for another two weeks to get a reply out to this person (they were 25 and this is important info FYI), but if I couldn’t, they said it would be okay.

Two weeks passed, I never managed to reply, and I finally put my foot down and said, “Alright, sorry but I just can’t do this anymore. It’s not enjoyable.”

My lovely partner proceeded to cuss me out, call me all by the worst insults under the sun, and pretty much chucked a tantrum like a three year old. I can specifically remember them claiming that I was a terrible role player, that I was incredibly selfish and that I was ungrateful. It ended in me having to block them on the IM client and then on-site because they followed me onto there and continued harassing me. -shrug-

Have had to slam one of my bi dudes (and my fave character to rp, ever) over the fence into gayland because writer-ladies were actually thinking they were dating him, and wouldn't take my proclamations that it was literally just a game seriously at all. Like we're talking cringe level, messaging me like I'm him, being weird, stalking, and I was just pissed enough about it to, in-character one time, have him pick up a dude in a bar and be like "bye I'm dumping you yolo".

I know that's not how bisexuality works, because am bi can confirm it doesn't work like that, but there was no way to get them to stop.

So when I'm doubting someone can handle their shit, I lowkey just push him in the opposite direction.

Forced romances kill me in RPs. I can't even with them. And it gets really weird when people start thinking it's IRL and can't separate the two.

Oof. I've had something similar happen where I role played for like, an hour with someone, then they deleted me off the rp server thing.

Hsd something like this a while ago. I was really busy, and couldn't reply to an RP for a while. So my partner responded by acting as if my character wasn't saying anything, and I instantly dropped the RP because of that.

* Not reading/understanding/or being honest what is being said during the discussion phase of the RP. I have had 2 partners throw hissy fits about what I was writing even though I was very clear about it in the discussion/set up stage before we started playing. They even agreed to it!

* Taking control of the whole RP and getting so excited that they advanced the plot so far in a single post that I just didn't care anymore.

* The ego stroking cold call PM. Eg: "I love your writing and really want to play with you" you soon find out that they have never even read your Request Thread let alone your RP's, in fact in some cases you don't have any public RP's lol.

* Arguing with me via the posts through their character! I have had this happen once where it took me a couple of posts to realize. Our characters were in an argument which is fair enough but then I noticed that what she was writing was really being directed at me but she was arguing through her character!

* Being harassed to respond. I understand if a couple of days have passed and they are checking in but I had a couple even "Bump" the RP as a way of reminding me!

i remember a mystic messenger 1x1 where i specifically said descriptive writing, but this person comes up with not only two or three measly lines, but horrible grammar

it was a starter as well, i didn't reply back.

also when people write paragraphs for their character but then one line for the character you're interacting with when doubling up

I had a long term partner once and we had done many RPs together. he was the first person I finish an RP with and the first person I actually became good friends with. however, all of our RPs had a bit of smut in them (this was on Iwaku, not RPN, and we were both teens at the time).

I didn’t mind smut but as we kept making new RPs the smut just kept getting dumped on me. that’s all he’d wanna write. I suggested our next RP have none as it was getting annoying to write and he insisted we keep writing it as it added spice. I told him we should tone it down at least because I was not interested in writing a story that seemed more like an erotica than anything.

we got onto this RP and he didn’t listen. he just wanted smut. I slowly stopped posting to the RP and talked OOCly with him a bit less. eventually he grew angry and out of nowhere, deleted me off of Skype, Snapchat, and unfollowed me on Iwaku. I tried contacting him as we had grown close but he completely fucked off.

I was kinda sad but at the same time relieved. but he is the reason I don’t write smut at all anymore. it’s so boring.

I hate it when that happens. On another site I had a complex Sci Fi based story, definitely erotica/smut in it but also lots of story line, character driven. I started to play it with this person and they just turned it into a joke. All they focused on was the smut, the smut they were into wasn't even realistic. I ended up dumping the RP pretty quickly.

And of course then you get the "Do you still want to play?" PM, ahhhh no I don't.

Try to put more than romance between their anthro animal character and my human character.

Control my characters supposedly on the sly.

Asking me how their character should think, act, and respond.

Forcing romance on my character at the beginning of the roleplay.

Turning their character into attention seeking damsels in distress where the roleplay revolves around their character.

I've had someone bump the roleplay in an aggressive manner after two hours of me not replying because I was busy.

"Hello??? Why aren't you posting?? Hurry up."

Two hours, try twenty minutes. It happened in the first big roleplay I ran. A player complained and was going to have his character just show up somewhere else if nobody replied in that area in twenty minutes.
Ignoring or not reading posts by other players is a big one. It takes me a while to reply when running or being in an RP as I go over every new post to make sure I don't contradict stuff people have written or something like that. When players just dive in without looking it throws the past few posts out the window.

Players responding to things that just didn't happen in a previous post. That's happened a few times. An example was in my first big RP where one player said something about the big bad just leaving so their character could step through the portal, like "As big bad left, Seth stepped through the portal."

This one is specific to Multi-Fandom, but when players write established characters wildly out of character. It's okay to have a boyscout like Captain America or Superman curse but the most outrageous example I've seen was somebody writing Superman as a legitimate psychopath who chuckled at children being murdered by other children and only cared about fighting his enemies.
And no, this wasn't the Injustice, DCEU or some crazy Elseworlds version. The player justified it by saying "Well, Injustice" even through there's an entire comic series and even cutscenes from the 1st game that explain why that Superman is a madman. Same RPer tried to convince me to sign up as Batman just so he could re-create the Dark Knight returns even though that has it's own context.

RPers who take OOC stuff and bring it into the RP. An example was another character acting out of character and slapping an OC as said OC was opening up about their backstory and the player didn't like self-pity. This was the same person who played psychotic Superman, by the way.
Speaking of OCs, while I love a good OC and mostly play OCs myself in Multi-Fandom due to the worry that I'll get a character wrong (see established character rant) I hate cringy OCs. I've actually listed the worst one I've seen as an example in my RPs as a what not to do for OCs.

Oh man...

A long time ago, my RP partner decided my character's past for him without getting my permission at all. She didn't know my character's history since I hadn't revealed it yet, and she spontaneously decided that her character had killed my character's parents when he was a child. ...I had planned for my character's parents to still be alive.
That same person also wrote Mary Sue characters all the time that would always solve intense conflicts with one short post. And she would bring in other characters just to praise her character and say how much they loved her.

One of the worst RP experiences I ever had was when I was still relatively new to RPing and started a 1x1 with someone. I specifically stated I wouldn't stand for sexual content. Everything seemed fine at first and I was enjoying the RP... when suddenly her character tried to drag mine to bed and RP about it very explicitly. I just bailed. Yuck.

This one isn't necessarily bad, but it was still weird - I tried to start a medieval fantasy group RP a few years ago, specifically stating that it was based on medieval times. This one guy joined and described his character as being ex-military and he liked to wear cargo shorts and camo T-shirts. I told him to please make his character slightly more accurate to the time period, but he said he didn't know how. Dude why are you joining a medieval-inspired RP if you don't know even the barest basics about the middle ages??
