[Shifting Sands] Shifting Sands Discussion

Yeah, was thinking this guy is about 30 years old. He's spent some time in the Lookshy military, or some other militia. He specialized in Recon, Scouting, and, sometimes, assassination. He did this for about 10 years, but eventually grew tired of it. He was good at what he did and could've made one hell of a career out of it, but people started to seem so impartial to other peoples' suffering. He was tired of mission after mission outside of the city and abroad and seeing so many villages and towns taken out. And each time a small Lookshayan unit could've defended the people, or at least trained them on how to defend themselves.

Shade spent the next two years wandering South, further and further, always on the lookout for more places where someone like him could make a difference. He rarely let anyone know he was ever involved, usually only killing or disabling the minimum number of people to eliminate the threat.

It was while he was wandering along the plains that everything went wrong. The nearby village he had been watching over for the past week was suddenly attacked by an onslaught of bandits and marauders, screaming for blood for the ones that Shade had killed. The villagers hardly had a chance and Shade rushed in, he was out of ammo after taking out other enemies previously and the only thing nearby was a scythe used in the fields. Shade knew he was greatly outnumbered, but he couldn't leave the villagers to die, not when it was his fault. It was as he took that stand, ready to face the odds against him that his brow glowed with the light of the sun.

The villagers still revere the man that saved him, knowing he was blessed by the Unconquered Sun, and was ready to sacrifice himself for them. The Cult of the Illuminated took him in after hearing about him from the local villagers. The Cult understand why Shade chose the Scythe, his own strip of cloth, to remind him of what he was fighting for, the weapon to let him never forget how strength can come from even the most uncommon places. His firewand is an exceptional piece of work, enchanted with Water by Sorcery to repair itself, just like his original, dog-eared manual of the 1000 Correct Actions. Someday he will get a proper firewand for his own skill. Otherwise his Grand Grimscythe, Last Chance, is his reminder of what brought him here.

Thanks. I wonder if there would be a way to make a rifle, or something like it...... Maybe it is a specially-crafted, mechanized crossbow.. Not sure.

Well, just trying to simulate an actual rifle. Otherwise, yeah, I did think about using that badboy. ;) Eventually he'll get an actual Artifact version.

Beyond that he tends to keep the Artifacts hidden. :)

They are, but they are basically flamethrowers. So I am using the closest thing to a rifle I can find.

When I played an Alchemical my character had a railgun.

Which oh just happened to have the stats of an onslaught crossbow...

Yes, you're right xarvh. It's perfect.

Use the Onslaught Crossbow stats:

Spd 5, Acc +3, 12L, Rate 2, Range 300, Attune 6, Artifact 3

(Which is what I think you may already have on your sheet...)

I have to put aside the xp for the additional Artifact. Would I be allowed to go into xp debt for that?

Ok.... So, in the meantime should I just use an Exceptional Crossbow to represent an Exceptional Rifle?

 I think I have all this straight... Let's see if I do:

If the Onslaught Crossbow would REPLACE the Exceptional Crossbow, you can go into XP debt for it.

Onslaught X-bow is an Artifact. Would need to go into XP debt to have it right now. In the meantime he has an Exceptional Rifle (Exceptional X-Bow)

Okay, good. I am following myself. :P

So, you may go into XP debt for the Onslaught. Just include how you got it.

Updated everything. Yes, Shade became much, much more dangerous. He gets 15 dice to roll, without Excellencies, when it comes to firing the rifle. ;)

How open is the area?

How much mess can Selima do without the hooded guys noticing?

What are the other two hooded guys doing?
