Seeking another long-term RP partner for original settings

Oh, it's no problem. Thankfully I'm only nearsighted and not farsighted.

So do you have any ideas for the intro and what you would like for the main conflict of the RP to be?

Well we could start it like the classic DnD opening and meet up in a tavern, if we can't think of anything else.

As for the main conflict, wouldn't that be killing the dragon?

Wow it is bright outside.

I had figured as much considering that was an idea from before and this seems like a pretty traditional dnd fantasy game. So sure, I can definitely run with that plot if you like.

I guess the setup depends on the degree of familiarity we want with the characters. If we wanted to assume that they've known each other for a while, we could show them using their skills to pull off a basic scam or confidence trick. Maybe something like, Hauki hides in a bush as a hapless merchant passes by, and then Hauki conjures up a vision of some kind of horrifying monster (maybe changing his own appearance) and uses it to terrify the merchant, only for Lillyane to step up and "rescue" him by defeating the fake monster, and the thankful merchant gives her a reward (or maybe she coaxes him into giving one).

That's just an idea. But I think on my end, it would probably be better to suppose that the characters have at least some kind of background with one another since my character, having been someone else's minion, has sort of an obedient quality about him and having a background would at least provide a basis for some level of trust between them.

Hmm, not totally sure about that. I guess if we wanted to, we could tie that into our character backstories, but that would require some more forethought. Alternatively, we could have the dragon plot more in the background at first for the characters to find themselves drawn into it later, but that requires some kind of hook in the story that might take time to get to when it might be better to jump into that aspect of the story right out of the gate.

Do you have any ideas or suggestions?

Alright, well we could take a little time to give that aspect some thought before starting if you want. Also some kind of title would be nice before starting, but it's not totally necessary.

Okay then, I'll try to give that some thought as well. I figure one quick way of hooking the main conflict into my character's backstory is saying that for whatever reason or another, my character's old master was trying to defeat the dragon.

So I'm guessing that the old master died(?) and your character still feels some loyalty towards him?

If they are friends... Maybe they met as children, became friends for a while, but one of them had to go somewhere else. Per say, you character and his master came to my characters village, they became friends, but then the two moved on in their search for how to defeat the dragon.

Then later in their lives, they somehow meet again, and your character asks Lil for assistance in completing his old master's task.

Something like that could work. I'm honestly not sure how I want to handle my character's relationship with his master. On one hand, it's not some Frankenstein's monster scenario where he was created only to be left to die, but there's still an inherent level of darkness to creating a mutant and using it for your own ends, knowing well that it probably wouldn't be able to live in society (I guess this depends on the degree of magic in the setting, though). Maybe he's just doing it out of a misplaced sense of loyalty or obligation than personal affection. This might provide some good character stuff to chew on in the RP, so I'll have to think about it a bit.

I would be fine with the characters having known each other when they were younger. Maybe Lilyane was one of the only other people he had ever gotten to known. Alternatively, he could have met up with her later and stuck around because she has a similar force of personality. I can work with a detail like that, so let me know if there's something you prefer.

The first idea would lead to some gokd character deveolpment, as you said. Either one of those would be fine with me though

Thanks! Yeah, the idea could offer some cool hooks to work with. Being a DnD-esque fantasy game, it's not like I plan to spend the entire game miring in existential angst or anything, but this could be a good way of providing some character and thematic ideas to underpin the rest of the story. If there's any way you want my character to support Lilyane's backstory, just let me know. I get that some people prefer to get started with more of a "blank slate" character, so if you want to only give a cursory character background that you flesh out later, then that would be totally fine as well.

Well take your time. I probably have a few details I need to wrap up on my own end as well, but it looks like things are shaping up so far.

I really do like the idea of them being childhood friends though. It would give Lil more of a reason to consider his request to go with him.

Cool. No rush or anything.

Oh, and before we kick off the game, I should probably mention that I work from my home computer and I often have this site open in a tab on one of my monitors, but I sometimes get busy with other things and may effectively be AFK from the site even though it says I'm logged in. I'm pretty confident that I'll have the time to commit to this game, but if you ever observe that, just please understand that I'm not trying to be negligent or disrespectful or anything. I'm pretty understanding about IRL stuff myself.

Hello there! Don't know of you're still looking but if you are, I have a list of plots here:

And am open to any modifications!
Thanks for your interest. I'll take a look at your ideas relatively soon and let you know if anything seems particularly appealing to me. I'm unable to say for certain whether I can commit at this time since I'm trying to get this RP idea off the ground, but I may be able to pick up another RP after I get a sense for how it would fit into my current schedule.

After giving it a little thought, I think a good exposition for my character would be that his master has gone missing rather than died. While I don’t want to risk overplanning the story, I see some pretty clear directions we could take this. We could have that old tragedy “reversal of fortune” standby where a character really wants something (in this case, being reunited with his master) only for them to learn some fact that leads them to have a change of heart just before they receive that thing.

Also we could gradually unpack the question of what kind of person his master really is by discovering clues about him throughout the game. Because when I think about it, my own character really does not have the kind of well-adjusted life experience necessary to even make a judgment about whether his master is a good person. All he really has is the life he was given. Also there’s the separate question of whether or not this dynamic of absolute mastery and servitude is ever justifiable, even when the master has saint-like benevolence (maybe this makes it even worse?). And another good aspect of this exposition is even if we decide that we just want to totally overlook it in favor of some other much more interesting plot thread that comes up in the game, it can still make for a nice (albeit smaller) bit of internal conflict that is resolved with some emotional grappling and it won’t just be a huge gaping hole in the plot if left unresolved.

It’s not like I have some laundry list of story points that I feel we absolutely must do or something, but these are just some of the thematic underpinnings I can anticipate for my character at this point and the general mechanism by which the story can build up enough momentum to carry itself.

I like that idea, if you want to do it.

Plus, I've hashed out Lil's back story, though I haven't written it down.
