SCHOOL LOCK-IN [Inactive]

I hustle over to the computers. "I can lock all the doors close to her, and set an alarm on hers," I say, easily hacking into the accounts (the passwords were all the same). "The gunman is really close..." I hesitate. "I mean, the alarm should help. But if he gets in, the best thing I can do is pull the electrical blocking security and try to set the lights haywire and freak him out. If worst comes to worst, I'll have to pull the water pipes." My fingers fly as I explain to mike. "I know that these doors suck, but this is how I got away with s6x in school."

Michael followed Sanaa over the computers, his legs threatening to give out. He listened intently, nodding as she explained. "OK... just watch and give me a shout over the radio if anything comes up. Hopefully we can avoid him." Mike started to leave before turning back. "And Sanaa..." He put a hand on her shoulder. "Thanks."

Mandi stays in her position but she hears the jiggle of a doorknob and a bang of glass hitting the floor. Unable to continue listening she goes back to her nightmares. Images of her father sister and mother keep floating into her head

I glance up at him through my lashes, smiling slightly. "My pleasure. Sorta." I remember something, and duck under the desk. "Here- take this too." I give him a small bottle. "Mrs. Doldron always keeps this for some reason. It's a small amount of highly concentrated caffeine- in case you need a bit of wake up call while acting as daring prince." I place the bottle in his hand and close his fingers around it. "be safe," I tell him seriously, and take him to the doors. "I'll be keeping an eye on you," i promise.

Michael gave her a sincere smile of his own, holding up the energy drink. "Good to know. Stay safe."

With that, he made his way out of the library, hustling back to the classroom he left Mandi at. His body cried out in protest at every step, but he ignored it as best he could. He stopped short of the corridor the class was on, taking a peek down the hallway.

"She's at the next door to the left," I radio him. "Be quiet, and quick- the gunner is only three hallways down.

Michael nodded to himself, creeping down the hallway cautiously. He approached the door and took a look through the window, trying to find Mandi but failing. He jiggles the doorknob to no avail.

"Mandi," he whispers, listening intently.

Sanaa

I send a small electromagnetic pulse to the lock, and it clocks open softly, being it the crappiest lock in the world. "Good thing I found out this was supposed to be a prison before a school. Really good technology- just no freaking wifi or service!!"

Mandi hears a voice but is unable to move to alarm him of whatever presence is in the room as well. If there even is one, she can't tell.

Barely audial she whispers under her breath "I'm here. Don't leave"

But she's pretty sure that no one could hear her.

Michael heard a click in the door, and tried the handle again. The door swung open and he stepped inside, scanning one wall to another. "Mandi?" he called out.

Michael's head snaps toward the direction of her voice. He spots Mandi slumped over in the darkness and rushes over. He kneels down in front of her, putting a hand on her shoulder. "Mandi, are you okay?"

Mandi is so relieved by the sight of Michael. With whatever energy she has left she wraps her arms around his neck. But then she comes back to reality. "He's...Mike....Get out..." She tries to get Mike to safety, still insure if she was hearing things earlier or the man was in the room, lurking among the shadows

It took a moment for Michael to decipher what Mandi was trying to tell him. Frowning, he turned around to glance around the room one more time. Nothing.

"Mandi, there's no one else here."

Yet... he couldn't shake the feeling that someone was watching them. He swallowed, his hand wrapping more tightly around the handle of the makeshift machete in his grip.

"Let's get you out of here."

He slid the blade into his belt, leaning forward to slide one arm under her knees while the other would support her shoulders as he lifted her up.

Subconsciously she wrapped her arms around his torso. Squeezing him tightly and leaned her head against his chest.

For some reason he calmed her. His presence made everything ok. She felt that he would protect her.

But one thing is for sure, she was almost positive someone was in the room. With not enough energy to check she closes her eyes while leaning against Mike.

Michael hefted her up, ignoring the pain that ensued. With Mandi secure in his arms, he made his way out of the room, the feeling of eyes boring into his back still fresh in his mind. He walked out of the classroom at a brisk pace, looking over his shoulder as he did so. His heart was thumping non-stop, but he wasn't going to let anything stop him at this point.

Mandi buries her head in Mikes chest. Never removing her arms from around him. She very very slowly starts to drift asleep

Michael looks down at Mandi's head against his chest and manages a small smile. He tightened his grip around her shoulders.

His pace was quick; he was getting close to the library.

Finally hear breaths start to normalize. Her heart starts to slow down to a normal rate. She loosens her grip slightly on Mike.

Sanaa

"A second gunman??" I hiss, seeing something behind them. "Run!" U shout to no one in particular, then run to the doors, opening them and grabbing Mike's hand, pulling him in as I shut the doors. I shove the bookshelves up against it, then kneel by mike and Mandi. "You guys okay?" I ask, my heart pounding.

There's a pounding on the library door but then silence. I remain unconscious in mikes arms. Unable to get up. My head leans against him still.

Michael glared at the door for several moments, his grip on Mandi tight. Then the pounding stopped. So his gut had been right.

Finally, he answered Sanaa. "I'm fine, but I don't know about Mandi." He looked around for a place to set her down. He ended up having to improvise. Michael gently set her down against a nearby table, placing his ruck behind her as a cushion and draping a jacket over her.

He turned back to Sanaa. "Thanks for the help," he remarked gratefully.
