School Daze

Quin closed his eyes when he was pulled closer to Tegan. He liked the feeling of it. He never wanted to leave his side. After a moment, he tried suggesting the same thing he had yesterday when Tegan mentioned not wanting to go home. "M-Maybe you can stay over." He said quietly. He didn't want Tegan to go back in that house. Not ever. "You, um, you could stay in Sean's old room. He moved out a few years ago, so it, it's always empty." He added after a moment.

Tegan let the thought run along his mind for a few moments. Sleeping in a strange bed, with Quin just down the hall. It teased his brain, racing in circles as is went. It was tempting, waking up in a home where no whisky was poured in the morning, no fists flying. He would come down to breakfast, Quin's bright smiling face greeting him over a bowl of cereal and fresh orange juice. Dr.Matthews would smile at him brightly, the paper held just under his nose as he munched on toast. It would be like a real family.

The bus stopped abruptly, a hiss of hot air and the whoosh of the windows brought him back from his fantasy.

Reality struck him in the chest.

He couldn't stay at the boy's house. If this wasn't going to be done tonight, it wouldn't be done at all.

No more running.

Eventually he would have to go back home, and the wrath of Jase would have built up over his absence. He would have to get clothing, his belongings, completely clear out his mother's things. It wasn't something he was prepared to do. Tegan glanced down at Quin, the bus rolling again, face full of resentment for himself. "I'm sorry, Quin. I can't." He murmured. "There are some things I have to take care of."

Devan waited as Tegan fell silent. He really hoped he said yes. He wanted him to stay. He didn't want to have to say goodbye. Even if he knew that he'd see him again tomorrow. Until Tegan said he couldn't. Quin thought something might be wrong, with the look on Tegan's face. However, he didn't ask if he was okay. He sort of guessed that he wouldn't get the true answer, just an 'I'm fine.' "Okay." He said quietly. "But you'll stay as long as you can, right?" He wanted to spend as much time with Tegan as he could.

Tegan smiled, the bus stopped, and he rested his cheek on the other's head. "Of course." He said gently, lacing his fingers in between Quin's. He lifted the male's hand to his lips, kissing his fingers softly. "I'll stay as long as you're awake." He breathed against the other's knuckles. Tegan was willing to stay inside the Matthew home as long as possible. Because the dread of the hours that lie ahead would be is problems were, it was too much for him to handle on his own. Even if Quin had no idea what his troubles were, it was always wonderful to occupy the same space as him. Always.

Quin smiled a little bit more. He closed his fingers around Tegan's after a moment. "I'm glad." He said quietly. He didn't want him to leave. Although he'd take what he could get right now. He glanced out the window and realized they were almost at their street. He was sort of glad or that. It meant that soon no one would be watching them. He still didn't like all the eyes on them. When the bus stopped at his house, Quin stood up. Then he waited for Tegan before he started to walk off the bus.

The bus slowly rolled to a halt across the street from the grey-mouthed house that held Tegan's belongings. His eyes showed a significant amount of discomfort as they laced themselves along the cracked windows and peeling paint. His side suddenly became chilled, the warmth from the other's body leaving him. He quickly got up, following his significant other off the buss. A rush of hot air and the squeal of tires rattled his mind, the bus pulling away quickly with a rough hum. He stared at the empty house, feet cemented to the sidewalk, barely noticing that Quin had been waiting for him.

Quin looked up at Tegan as the other stared at th house across the street. He became worried about him. What was he thinking? Quin quietly stepped up closer, standing just a little bit behind him and off to the side slightly. Slowly he reached for Tegan's hand. "What are you thinking about?" He asked quietly. He hoped that he would get something out of Tegan. Sometimes it felt like he was hiding everything from Quin.

The soft voice of Quin brought the boy back to the sidewalk, his skin crawling under the hot sun. He glanced back down at Quin, wrapping his arm around the boy's shoulders. "I'm just thinking about how hideous my house looks." He said, truthfully, because all in all it was a wreck. He let out a low sigh, turning back towards Quin's house with a smile on his face. "You have any icecream?"

"Oh." Quin had never thought about it before. Then again, he never had a reason to think about Tegan's house before. When Tegan asked about ice cream, Quin nodded a bit. "Yeah." He said with a small smile. "Dad loves it, so there's always at least three kinds in the freezer." He then started to walk up the stairs and he unlocked the door. Once they were inside, Bear came from somewhere in the house and got more excited when he saw Tegan. Immediately he went to Tegan first and sat down in front of him, like he had yesterday.

As soon as Tegan entered the house, a happy and fairly excited dog cam scuttling into the entryway, the sound of his nails along the hardwood floor bringing a wide smile to Tegan's face. He bent down in front of the large lab, feeling the soft licks and excited huffs of breath. Squatting, he took the dog's head in his hands and scratched behind his ears. "Bearrrr" Tegan growled playfully, his nose scrunched up as the animal's front paws came upon his shoulders, and he was suddenly attacked with sweet and slobbery kisses. "Ooho I missed you too." He grimaced, pointing his head up so the tongue would miss his mouth. The sound of it snagging on his stubble reminded him he'd have to shave soon, another reason he'd have to set foot in the nightmare. The pup pushed against his body, causing him to topple over onto his back, causing the sloppy hello to continue. He chuckled, trying to push the heavy dog off him, hair flying into his face making his skin itch. "He likes me a lot"

Quin hadn't expected Bear to push Tegan over. Normally he didn't even come close to doing something like that. Well, except when Quin was playing with him. Although he couldn't help but laugh a bit. "He does." He said with a smile. Then he figured he should get Bear off of him. "Bear, down." Seeing as he would respond to that. Bear did. He sat on the ground next to Tegan instead. "Good boy." He told the dog as he bent down to pet him. Then Bear seemed happy to see him too and Quin dodged a kiss a moment later. He stood up before Bear could get him.
