NARRATIVE POST
With the entrance exam at the Ethereal Luminary Academy behind them, the group indulged in the luxuries of its grand ballroom. The soft strains of elegant music mingled with the hum of lighthearted chatter, while trays of decadent treats circulated, each as tempting as the elusive "crème puff" that had become the talk of the evening. However, all too soon, it was time to leave.

Stepping outside the academy grounds, they entered the bustling streets of Aslan, capital of the Grand Duchy—a city brimming with magic. Aslan's skyline soared with towering buildings, their structures ancient yet marvelously infused with enchantments. Above, magical aircraft zipped past, as common in this city of spellcraft as flying broomsticks.

Their path led them toward one of the city’s legendary portals—a magical gateway capable of transporting travelers across vast distances in a heartbeat. These devices, invaluable and powerful, were carefully guarded. Approaching the portal, a young Fae mage awaited them, accompanied by a cadre of gleaming golems. With precise gestures, he extended a shimmering obsidian orb to each traveler, verifying their identities with an ethereal scan. Demeter, Aureus, Scarlett, Aqua, Adelhein, Gilgamesh, and Artoria passed without issue, none bearing any criminal or monstrous marks.

Once their destination, Ryken, was confirmed, the mage strode to a terminal, inputting their information. Unknown to the group, a synchronized relay of data was transmitted directly to Ryken, preparing for their arrival. Moments later, a radiant blue light filled the portal’s center, crackling with mana, and the group stepped into its glow, emerging moments later in familiar territory.

In Ryken, the portal station was equally fortified, albeit by a diverse array of guards in heavy, ornate armor. A guard approached them, presenting the same black orb for verification. Once cleared, the group was granted entry into Ryken, capital of the mercantile realm.

The city's bustling streets reflected its reputation as a cultural melting pot. Beings of all races and creeds moved in apparent harmony, engaged in the steady hum of commerce and daily life. Leading the group, Adelhein took an unexpected route away from the familiar inn where he had been staying. They wove through the city until a large, imposing estate came into view.

Manor outside 1.png

The estate’s outer walls loomed fifteen feet high, concealing much of what lay inside, save glimpses of the upper floors of an impressive manor. Pedestrians on the sidewalk seemed to instinctively divert around it, sometimes casting puzzled glances at the estate before continuing. As they drew closer, those with even the faintest grasp of magic could sense an intense prana emanating from the estate—a multilayered boundary field that encased the grounds. The walls bore a network of wards, woven directly into the stone columns, each thrumming with potent energy. This formidable barrier was unmistakably crafted to be noticed, its maker unbothered by subtlety.

Finally, they reached the gates, allowing a view into the estate’s courtyard. The entrance was expansive, with a meticulously paved path of polished stone leading toward the manor. A fountain bubbled at the center, surrounded by trimmed hedges and elegantly arranged flora, all hinting at the grandeur and precision beyond.

After the introductions of Adelhein’s new acquaintances, the young magus continued. “I’ve decided to bring them to my house and offer them an opportunity for mentorship, just like I did with Demeter.” Hearing those words, the two women at his sides, stared at the trio.

Artoria
Saber-Alter-5-fixed.png

Artoria’s golden gaze was cold and analytical, trying to gauge what level of danger each of them could pose for her Master, as well as their usefulness. Her right, gauntleted hand rested on top of the pommel of her sword. “While I’m wary of bringing more strangers into our fold, I trust in your decision, Master.” For her, Adelhein had already shown to not be naïve. And, if needed, she wouldn’t hold back.

Gilgamesh

Gilgamesh’s crimson gaze was just as intently, but different. It was as if she were looking at a piece of art or media, eager to know what amount of entertainment could be derived from them. And, even with her incessant search for amusement, her Master’s protection was also essential. “The more, the merrier, as they say.” She said with a smirk, draping one arm around Adelhein’s shoulder, making her counterpart narrow her eyes.

With the time to leave Academy, the group made its way towards the city’s portal. Adelhein narrowed his eyes at the magical marvel, having seen nothing in that scale. “I wonder if this device uses the same principle as your own teleportation.” Telling Demeter thus, the gears in his mind appeared to already be turning. “Maybe, after using it, you will be able to tell.” He concluded, ready to analyze it as well.

Gilgamesh
5ec7067a-593e-480e-be56-b13bb9c3da5b.jpg

Gilgamesh, who had fallen a bit behind on purpose, walked beside Aureus for a moment. Without preamble, she began. “I noticed your wandering eye. Does the King of Heroes fascinate you that much, mortal?” With narrowing eyes, she continued. “Be wary with what sort of gaze you dispense both the Wyrm and me.” There was a clear undercurrent of warning in her tone, despite the smile on her lips.

Artoria
Saber-Alter-5-fixed.png

Artoria, on the other hand, was closer to both Aqua and Scarlett. Desiring to have more information about the two even before they reached their destination, the corrupted king asked them. “What are the objectives, of both of you, in accepting my Master’s invitation?” Her gaze scrutinized the two girls, tentatively waiting for what they would say.

After walking through the portal, Adelhein walked through the familiar sight that was Ryken, in truth missing some of the magical quality that Aslan had. Guiding the group, both his Servants were back at his side once more. “We are almost at my residency…” Saying that, soon enough he was taking a different path than the one that lead towards Inn he had been staying previously.

When he stopped at the gate of the manor, he continued. “... welcome to my humble abode. Much better than the Inn I was staying in, I must say. The owner was already started to question why it felt ‘strange’ to get close to the room I was renting. Guess applying the same amount of protection as I did with this estate to the room ended up being a bit too much…” He wondered to himself. It was debatable if Adelhein was being paranoid with the amount of magic defenses present in that estate.

Scarlett stayed near Adelhein and the group post being accepted into the academy. Scarlett was fairly used to Aslan by this point, and the portal system wasn't anything new, so seeing that they got through smoothly wasn't unexpected.

When Adelhein explained to his companions why they were following him, Scarlett listened carefully to Artoria, she imagined that was an understandable response, Adelhein was taking on some elements of the unknown by agreeing to work with and mentor them, and he was someone of means so it wasn't unreasonable to be skeptical.

She then looked to GIlgamesh when she spoke and gave a bit of a nod and smile, " I certainly hope you all find that to be true."

Scarlett did not give her own opinion on the dialogue regarding whether or not the portal was the same as Demeter's teleportation, but she had a feeling it was probably different, one coming from a use of magic and perhaps even magi-tech and another from a fae's abilities, but there still might be something there with crossover similarities.

"I'd be curious to know more about that myself." She would add.

Scarlett wondered exactly where Aureus's eyes had been wandering to gather that response from Gilgamesh, but she had made herself clear.

She'd look to Saber Alter when the question was asked of her, and she truthfully did not need very long to reply, "Your master appears to be quite capable in magic as he demonstrated earlier during the exam, he also was able to best Nolan Cryros which by all accounts is not an easy task, I Will also say that he did well thinking on his feet, if he's open to the prospect of working together to improve our magical abilities and knowledge, then I hardly see why I wouldn't want to work with him, particularly as we'll be attending the same academy." Scarlett replied with a smile.

"In short I would say, my objective is to learn from him and partake in an academic exchange., which I believe will be mutually beneficial to those here, sort of like a study group." That seemed like the best way to put things.

Ryken however was an area that Scarlett was less familiar with, she spent a good deal of her time in the Duchy of Roran compared to other places, but it also wasn't alien to her. She did take some more time to look around and take in the details of the less familiar place.

Despite this she made sure to pay attention and follow Adelhein on the diverging path he seemed to be leading the group down. Residency? She was curious to see how this would end up looking.

While they arrived,

Scarlett had seen her fair deal of estates being a noble, but this one was impressive in its own right when she came to see it, She looked at the architecture and garden features. It was pretty clear that Adelhein was in fact someone with connections and means as she had been inclined to think based on his title and how he conducted himself, the estate further supporting this thought.

It was a well maintained one from the exterior from what she could gather too, taking note of the fountain feature. A small smile fell upon her face looking over it all, taking note of the magic field as well.

"So you're the one who set all of these defenses up? You really do continue to surprise me in the most impressive ways." Scarlett said looking to Adelhein, unaware that he was capable of initiating such protective magic as well, given the potency it was pretty clear that he knew his stuff.

Demeter
Demeter.png

A well-fed dryad was a happy dryad.

She was more than happy to make the journey back to hotel after that banquet, but The El-Melloi had other plans. Far better arrangements than Demeter had expected. But, before that, there was the issue with the teleporter. She stood quiet and attentive as the group was transported to Ryken; ready to compare her technique to that of the warp pads. As a long, pregnant pause-

"I... I'm not sure I'd be able to compare what I do with the portal station without... asking it how it words. Or the people who made it."

For a brief moment, it would seem as though there was little to gain from the experience-

"But it's... it didn't really move us. We moved through it. Or, at least, a path that it made. So I guess it's.... way different, actually."

-at least until she stopped worrying about what those devices were doing and started talking about what she did.

"Could the station have moved us if we didn't walk through it? I can't make paths like that, but I also don't... need people to walk to move them around in the first place? I'm not sure if we even 'jumped', or just like... took a shortcut? And then... did the gate we ended up at move us or the one we started at? Or both? And how do they see where they're going? Cuz that's a whole thing I had to figure out, too, to uh..."

A mild look of frustration slowly crept across Demeter's visage. It was like there was just so much to express and a complete lack of skill in the art of articulation. Not exactly a new experience for the three people here who new the young dryad best. She paused for a long moment, trying to condense all of those thoughts into something more concise.

"No, I don't think that my magic works like the station at all, to be honest," she concluded, "The station makes a path, and then you move yourself through it. I just move everything, myself, without making anything."

Perhaps there was something for Adelhein and those curious to gain from that rambling train of thought. Perhaps not. But it was the best way she could compare what she did to the portal station's technology with what little information she had on hand. But, as the group grew closer to the mansion, the topic of Adelhein's mentorship came up. And Demeter felt a sense of deja vu.

Though not exactly the most pleasant one.

It made her remember how she felt when he first offered to help her, and the initial impression it left. It made her remember the most important question she'd asked him that day. It made her a bit... surprised by how little Scarlett questioned these new developments. But it also made her empathize with any skepticism that might've been brewing in the minds of, well, anyone who hadn't already grown somewhat familiar with the young magus' character. The grand gesture may have been the norm for Adelhein, Scarlett, and folks who who were born to nobility.

But for those who weren't?

"Adelhein," Demeter spoke with a softer voice; her tone portraying equal parts warmth and concern, "I think... it might be a good idea to tell everyone about your goals, too."

Knowing the intentions of one who offered you a great deal was often far more important than the deal, itself.

This was Aqua's first time passing through the so called magical portal. Just like boarding a plane, she was simply too scared to try an entirely new transportation mode alone. The difference was she never had friend to accompany her boarding an airplane so to this day she never get on one... Compared to that, looking at herself now walking with all these people. Maybe, just maybe, she did outgrown her past self a bit.

While the others were discussing about how the portal works, the dark knight one approached her and Scarlett and asked a question. As expected of a noble, Scarlett answered the question quickly and smoothly, meanwhile Aqua took a bit of time to think her own.

"I... I need to step out more. Try more things and experience more things. B-but, I can't do it alone and I'm happy i-if someone think I have potential. Besides, I think learning magic w-will be more fun when done together." Aqua remembered the people who helped her ever since she came into this world. Her parents who raised her as best as they can, her alchemy mentor who pushed her to study aboard, Phoebe who convince her to accept herself. Now what she needs to do was to step forward, but she's done trying it alone. It didn't work in her previous life and she would probably ends up miserable if she try the same.

"I-I will be in your care, Miss Artoria." Aqua gave the knight a warm smile.

When the group finally arrived at the so called humble abode, Aqua jaw's dropped to the floor as she saw the impressive manor and the equally impressive magic sigils that surrounds it. She did think adelhein was a rich noble but to actually see such manor directly was another thing.

Aureus Albion

For the first time in recent memory, which is all the memory Aureus has, he felt free of anxiousness. Dangerous expeditions, lone travels, and risky places to rest on? Not this time. The elf tried his best to not look amazed by the hustle and bustle of the local market that received them in the capital of Ryke. Even more so when Adelhein and his acquaintances led the way to an imposing manor, accompanied with and equally impressive entance, garden, and protection.

At some point during their travel back to Ryken, much to his shock, the gold-clad figure addressed him. Aureus was initially taken aback, quite more so once she casually threatened him. Aureus looked at Gilgamesh in the eye. Mildly startled at first, and then answered as he looked back to the path ahead. "I apologize. It is just like you said, I find something fascinating in both of you." He cleared his throat, as felt a bit more rattled from the threat than he initially thought. "I managed to pick up something along the lines of you two being summoned by Adelhein. While he is impressive in his own right, you are..." Once again, the elf took another pause to think his words through. "There's something impressive about you. Your presence. I don't know anything about a 'King of Heroes', and yet, I have the gut feeling that you are indeed such a thing. As foreign as it might sound to me".

Back on the entrance of Adelhein's estate, Aureus thought of many things that it could be called. 'Humble' was not one of them. He kept that to himself, as he wanted to avoid being rude. The chatting resumed. Among the things discussed, what caught Aureus attention was Demeter's comment on Adelhein. "...Goal?" His eyes went from Demeter, to Adelhein and his summons, and back to the dryad.

Artoria
Saber-Alter-5-fixed.png

Artoria listened to Scarlett’s answer with the same stoic face which she had been sporting so far. The mention of Nolan Cyrus made her golden eyebrows furrow. “Ah yes, that buffoon who thought himself to be of any importance. If it wasn’t this place’s… ‘rules’, he would now be quite a few inches shorter.” While she didn’t expand on how that would take place, it was easy to notice the grip on the hand which rested on the pommel of her sword tighten. Being satisfied with the crimson-haired girl’s answer, Artoria would nod briefly. “Very well…”

“... how about you?”
The black clad king would shift her attention to Aqua, listening to blue-haired girl’s answer. As Aqua talked, Artoria would raise one golden eyebrow, thinking the objective itself being curious. Even more when ‘fun’ was mentioned, after all, that word had little meaning to her at that moment. At any rate, the swordswoman would also find herself satisfied with Aqua’s answer. “Leave it to me.” She answered when the girl mentioned being in her care, her stoicism remaining.

Gilgamesh
5ec7067a-593e-480e-be56-b13bb9c3da5b.jpg

Gilgamesh had languid smile on her face while she listened to Aureus, seeing how her veiled warning had produced the intended effect. Upon hearing the elf describe her presence as impressive, she threw back her head letting out a hearty, musical laughter. After a while, she would recompose herself.

“To think that even beings so removed from my legend would still find themselves stunned and drawn by my brilliance.” Her tone was humorous and, from her words, Aureus and the others were able to get a glimpse of the monumental pride that defined her. With her crimson gaze sliding on the direction of the corrupted king, she continued. “Did you hear that Wyrm? Our legends grasp the minds of even the denizens of this alien world.” Turning back to the elf, Gilgamesh concluded. “Very well, the King of Uruk accepts your explanation.”

Adelhein El-Melloi von Breyer
6a914243-7f9e-4ca1-bfe4-bef0fdd14499.jpg

Adelhein showed a great amount of interest as Demeter began comparing her own teleportation technique with the portal. While he had actual interest of knowing the answer, his probing question had main objective that was different altogether. Indeed, what he wished was to push the dryad’s capabilities to explain her own naturalistic approach to magic in her own way.

“Indeed, both of them appear to be quite different. And the ‘feeling’ of both experiences was also equally unique. Therefore, here we have two distinct methods that produce, roughly, the same results. Whenever aiming for a specific result, is there merit to exploring different methods than the first successful one?” He’d ask the quartet as a whole, probing them just like a professor would.

By then, the young magus was confident he could replicate the teleporting he experienced thanks to Demeter. Now it was a matter of practicing and changing it to fit him. And, eventually, find the most efficient method for him to use it.

And, upon hearing the praise coming from Scarlett, a member of a noble family of a magical realm no less, he smiled in her direction, pride palpable on his expression. “Thank you, this is the work of several weeks.” The young magus said. For him, it was only natural for a magus to fortify their workshop with every sliver of their capabilities. In fact, it was a common practice in his homeland. However, its necessity in this new realm was debatable, even more for an estate located in the middle of the capital.

Gilgamesh
5ec7067a-593e-480e-be56-b13bb9c3da5b.jpg

There was a flicker of approval behind Gilgamesh’s crimson eyes. She appreciated that Adelhein was keen on defending his own dominion, just like she had done several millennia ago. And, for the very first time, she couldn’t claim that it was just someone else tending to her gardens momentarily.

Artoria
Saber-Alter-5-fixed.png

The very same approval was present in Artoria’s gaze. She was glad to see that her Master hadn’t become careless just because of the ‘change of scenery’ from the situation back in his homeland. In addition, the protection also made it easier for her to protect him. “A prudent move. We won’t be caught by surprise or unprepared.”

Adelhein El-Melloi von Breyer
6a914243-7f9e-4ca1-bfe4-bef0fdd14499.jpg

In the next moment, however, it was the dryad who had Adelhein’s attention. Indeed, up to that moment, he had not revealed his own objectives behind the invitation that was extended to the three newcomers. And, considering they were about to enter a magus’ heavily protected workshop it was only fair for them to be aware of it. “You are correct. Considering how hectic this day was, I ended up not saying what I expect out of this offer.” Giving Demeter a nod, his crimson gaze slid towards Scarlett, Aqua and Aureus.

“The things I expect are loyalty and the advancement of the El-Melloi legacy, my legacy.” He would allow for a pregnant pause, letting his words sink into their minds for a moment, before continuing. “I believe the loyalty part is self-explanatory: I won’t invest my time, my resources or my knowledge on someone who might betray me. But that doesn’t mean I expect blind obedience. If that was my aim, I would be using Self Geass, which I believe it might be referred as a [Contract] in here.”

Taking a moment to survey any and all reactions, he carried on. “As for prestige it is rather straightforward. Successful apprentices are a testament to the mentor’s skill and the legacy they uphold.” Finishing to talk about his own objectives, he was still true and through an orthodox magus of a faraway land, prideful, still holding the honor and pragmatism of the El-Melloi family.

“How do each of you find my terms?” Adelhein asked coolly, his expression changing little. Yet, internally, there was a slight degree of anxiety and expectation, as he waited for their answers. And, this time around, there was no addition from his golden-clad Servant.

Aqua sounded reasonable in her response thankfully. Aureus seemed able to handle how to respond to a more forthright questioning about why his gaze had been looking places apparently on the more..extroverted sort.

With the way Artoria responded it was clear pretty quickly regardless of how Scarlett knew Nolan, he wasn't going to be popular around this place between how Artoria reacted to just the mentioning of him, and how very clearly Adelhein and him had been having some sort of lingering grudge match not all that long ago.

"Right, we prefer..more peaceful resolutions if possible." She'd simply state which was true from a legal perspective, even if technically there were plenty of nations which accepted duels, it wasn't particularly encouraged to the death at the very least in Roran or Ryke to her knowledge, even if it was possible.

"I'm glad we're on the same page then." She'd give Artoria a smile after she said very well.

Gilgamesh's response was quite curious, her otherworldly nature being made even more apparent now with how freely she spoke about it, Scarlett supposed that made sense given Adelhein had summoned the two of them, hopefully she was impressive as suggested.

When Adelhein posed the question to the group, Scarlett was quick to reply.

"It is my opinion that all methods are worth exploring, even if they have similar results. By exploring different methods in magic, there are different aspects which you may learn about which may come in handy in the creation of your own casting, or even taking what's best from different systems and creating one which is superior to the initial method which may appear to simply get the job done or is better at a surface level."

"It's through discovering nuances and acquiring as much information as possible which true innovation, and leaps in power and efficiency are made possible."

"Of course, It's well deserved praise!"
She'd respond with a warm smile to Adelhein.

"Multiple weeks? That's certainly understandable and still quite impressive. Even if I do believe the capital is relatively secure in many areas, one cannot be too careful."

" I am not naive enough to believe that only good and just people live in any place, Ryken included, with this level of protection it may deter many who might try to act out for their own gain at your expense, so in those ways I am in agreement with Artoria."

However Scarlett did perk up some when Demeter told Adelhein it was a good idea to share his objective. What even was his objective? She had been so caught up in the prospect of learning magic from him, she hadn't really considered other possibilities other than him seeing it a worthy endeavor as an academic exercise with his classmates who he had gotten along with relatively well.

She looked to him, a more serious expression now on her face, as she explained what his goal was. He wanted to bring prestige to his family? That wasn't a goal that Scarlett was unfamiliar with.

It was pretty clear he was taking this super seriously, so Scarlett should do the same, it was obvious he was gifted and why would she pass up this opportunity? What reason would she even have to betray Adelhein, last time she checked he wasn't plotting against her family or trying to do anything nefarious.

Scarlett gave a respectful nod.

"Very well Adelhein, It's clear you are quite skilled in magic and it is logical you wish to bring prestige and notoriety in positive reputation to your family, that is what many of our class are driven to do, It's something you'll find true in the Duchy of Roran as you will here perhaps in albeit different ways. By extension, I wish to make my parents proud and bring prestige to the Ashford family name, I believe that by working together as a group we can mutually grow in our abilities and both work toward our respective goals, so I find these terms agreeable."

"Loyalty I can promise you in working toward these goals."

Demeter
Demeter.png

Demeter was relatively silent as, well, most of the group explained their desires. She held silent as Adelhein assumed the role of instructor and asked them all a question on experimentation; opening the floor for Scarlet and the others to speak. She continued in silence as he asked them how they felt about his terms; for he had already known her answer long before they had come to this new mansion. Yet, she held a constant smile all the while.

Adelhein, Gilgamesh and Artoria were the closest thing to family she had. At the end of a long adventure, after gathering her spoils and wrapping up any souvenirs she collected, they were the people she came home to in the end. It was too early to say if Aureus, Aqua and Scarlett would end up becoming a part of that family, but the prospect made her happy. The fancy mansion, defensive magic and prestige were all just icing on the cake as far as she was concerned.

She still preferred sleeping outside under the moon most of the time, either way.

"I'm going to have to make a trip back to the hotel to get that robot head, aren't I?" Demeter replied to Adelhein with a snicker.

Then, she turned to the new faces who'd joined them at the manor.

"Um, I also want to say... don't hesitate to ask me for help, either. I don't really have a family... or a last name to honor. I just want to travel the world, go on exciting adventures, and get strong enough to not die in the process. If I'm not here, I'm probably gonna be questing for one of the guilds. So, it shouldn't be hard to find me if you're looking for me. I've got no problem putting questing aside for a while to help out friends, though."

Adelhein saw that, firsthand, at the academy. Demeter would then turn to Aqua.

"Once you're feeling a bit more confident in your abilities, we can go on a quest where you can put them to use. Or just, you know, explore some place you've never been before. No way to experience new things without just... doing it. The Guilds are a great way to meet people, visit new places and earn some coin all at once! It's how I met Adelhein, in the first place. And... all of you... technically."

Then she turned to Aureus, the quiet one.

"And what about you? You've got a reason to be here, too. Are you from a big, magic family too... or are you more like me?"

As the conversation goes on, Demeter turned to her and offered Aqua and invited her to do some adventuring quest together. For a brief moment Aqua had a flashback on her first and only quest taken where their part got split inside a goblin cave, her doing an improvised salt burial and a gnome got a few of her fingers cut by shaman.

"T-thank you for the offer, I-I will think about it." she replied uncommitedly. She wasn't sure she's going to pick any quest from the guild anytime soon, but she's happy for the invite, and something simple like herbs picking didn't sounds too bad.

Aqua was also curious about Adelhein's motivations for recruiting them, but she's too shy to ask for it so she's grateful for Demeter to nudge the conversation that way. She almost thought he would ask for something like money but she quickly realize that there's no use of someone like him to ask money to peasant like her. So she was glad when Adelhein mentioned his goals and it was nothing like she thought it would be. Aqua simply nodded in agreement with the others.

"I-I think it's a reasonable terms." She chimed. Loyalty? She didn't see any reason to go against the magus so it should be easy. Prestige? She should be able to get it if she...

P-PRESTIGE!!? Can she even hold something like that?! Her mind immediately went to the worst scenario.

"Aqua, you have been an embarrassing piece of student."

"How dare you waste our time like this!"

"Allow me to dislocate your head right in this very spot."

No no no no no no no!
She shouldn't think of others badly like that. She's sure they can tolerate her a bit, at least until she can be useful for them and learn one or two things. To disperse her negative thoughts Aqua repeatedly shook her head left and right. Bad thought go away!

Aureus Albion

"...Thank you" Aureus uttered slowly, as fear subsided. From then on, he did his best during the walk to avoid rude stares aimed at the King and the 'Wyrm'. Even if they were still fascinating. He still stole a glance or two, hoping the Gilgamesh wouldn't get mad, now that he explained his curiosity.

Back on the topic at hand, Aureus looked at the three figures in front of him. Contemplating Adelhein's offer as he looked at everything before him. It really wasn't a difficult choice. "I have nothing to lose if I accept. I'd like to see how much I can push my skills." the elf sighed before adding "And getting in shape would be nice... Heh."

Demeter addressed him after he said his piece. With a question that put Aureus in reflexive though for a few seconds "I... I don't have a family. Not that I know of. I came up with my name. I have no memories of my life before... roughly two months ago. I woke up in a forest. I wandered and wandered until I found people. And then wandered some more to find my way." A solemn smile appeared on his face "This encounter sure was a blessing."

Seeing things in that perspective pushed him to encourage Aqua, who seemed to be struggling. Gently patting her in the back. "There, there. It'll be alright. I'd be happy to train alongside you. I'm sure we can learn more together."

Adelhein El-Melloi von Breyer

The way in which Scarlett answered Adelhein’s query about methods mirrored his own thoughts on the subject. “I’m of the exact same thought. Through experimentation, exploration and testing, with the addition of proper and sufficient knowledge, any method can be improved. And even new ones can be discovered.” The young magus nodded her way solemnly, visibly more than satisfied with it. Little by little it became clear to him how similar both of them were in certain aspects.

“Hopefully, these protections will be enough to keep things secured and curious eyes away when I’m not in the estate.” He said as the crimson-haired girl mentioned the place’s defensive measures. Adelhein was more worried about what could happen in his absence. While the group was inside those walls, he could only imagine the grizzly fate of whoever tried to break into his domain.

Gilgamesh

Gilgamesh’s crimson gaze shifted towards Demeter as she mentioned the robot’s head, answering the question in her Master’s place. “Not at all. The Inn’s staff were more than glad to give it to us as soon as we left that provincial place. You should have seen their faces, they looked, at the very least, terrified!” There was an unmistakably dark amusement in her tone. “You should regale us with the tale of how you removed the head of that metallic puppet at some point. I’m sure it will make for quite the entertainment.”

Adelhein El-Melloi von Breyer
6a914243-7f9e-4ca1-bfe4-bef0fdd14499.jpg

Adelhein was glad about Aqua’s acceptance of his terms, smiling towards the blue-haired girl. “Perfect, welcome aboard.”

And, as Scarlett’s expanded on her own objectives and aspirations, being similar to his own while not conflicting with them, it made things much easier. It meant that she knew what that entailed. “Excellent, we will be able to work towards our goals in tandem. Welcome as well.”

As for Aureus, the idea of pushing one’s skills to their very limit was something that Adelhein could respect. “That is one goal I’m pursuing myself: the betterment and perfection of my own magecraft.”

Artoria
Saber-Alter-5-fixed.png

Artoria, upon hearing Aureus comment about wanting to get in shape nodded thoughtfully. “A properly honed physique often reflects into a sharp mind.” Commenting, her golden gaze slid towards Adelhein. “Master, regardless of your arcanic abilities, training your body will do you good.” There wasn’t neither question nor a suggestion in her words.

Gilgamesh
5ec7067a-593e-480e-be56-b13bb9c3da5b.jpg

A tentative hum left Gilgamesh’s lips. “Legacy, power, prestige, looks like mages here and magi ‘there’ aren’t that different at all. I’m eager to see what each of you do with what you are searching for… if you attain it.” Maybe, just maybe, this world would be interesting enough to keep her attention.

With all the newcomers accepting his offer, the teenager would approach the gate and place his hand on it. There was a loud, metallic groan as opened, towards the interior of the front yard, allowing access to it.

Crossing the threshold into the El-Melloi estate’s front yard, the group was met with an unexpected sight. While the gardens and fountain had appeared calm and stately from the outside, the yard was alive with movement.

Metal Golem.png

Metallic golems, nearly 8 feet tall, patrolled with deliberate steps. Their bodies glistened with a polished, steely finish, one hand holding a long, gleaming blade. The golems, masked by the estate’s multilayered protective field until now, exuded an aura of silent menace. Their expressionless forms indicated no higher cognition, just unwavering obedience to their creator, Adelhein. Any notion of reasoning or negotiation was quashed by their menacing design.

Adelhein, Gilgamesh and Artoria walked through the path without a single care in the world, ignoring the golems’ presences. It was as if the creatures were part of the decoration in the front yard, like a statue or something similar.

Adelhein El-Melloi von Breyer
6a914243-7f9e-4ca1-bfe4-bef0fdd14499.jpg

"Don't worry about them. While they will retaliate if attacked, they are simply silent sentinels otherwise, looking for uninvited guests." The young magus said in advance, already wanting to dispel any worries that the creatures might end up causing.

The Manor

Black Liliana - Umineko When They Cry

The group ascended the broad steps leading to the entrance of the grand manor. As they approached the door, the knob turned smoothly and the door opened from within. Awaiting them stood a humanoid figure clad in a traditional maid's outfit.

Maido.png

Its surface shimmered like polished mercury, shifting subtly between solid and liquid, exuding an uncanny, fluid grace. The creature's face was entirely blank—no eyes, no mouth, not a single feature. Yet, as it directed the center of its faceless visage towards the group, they could feel the surge of mana radiating from it.

Hallway.png

Past the metallic maid, the manor's grand foyer came into view. A sweeping staircase, lined with a deep red velvet carpet, ascended to the second floor, commanding attention from the center of the room.

Adelhein El-Melloi von Breyer

"We will be going to the trophy room. Bring the usual for us," Adelhein instructed the maid, which bowed lightly before gliding to the left of the stairs. The young magus then led the group to the right, guiding them towards the trophy room.

Trophy Room

Trophy room.jpg

The trophy room proved expansive, its walls lined with towering wooden cabinets, their glass doors revealing empty interiors. Yet, one cabinet stood out. It contained a stuffed bear’s head mounted beside the metallic head of a construct—both trophies that Demeter would recognize all too well.

Adelhein El-Melloi von Breyer
6a914243-7f9e-4ca1-bfe4-bef0fdd14499.jpg

Adelhein would sit on the center seat of one of the couches, glad to be off his feet after the long exam. “Please, make yourselves comfortable.” He offered, motioning his hand towards the couches.

Gilgamesh
5ec7067a-593e-480e-be56-b13bb9c3da5b.jpg

Gilgamesh sauntered over to the couch, with a sway of hips, sitting at one of the young magus’ sides. She then crossed her armored legs in a figure-four lock and draped one of her arms around the back of his shoulders, being all too familiar.

Artoria
Saber-Alter-5-fixed.png

Artoria, on the other hand, decided to remain standing up. She would walk with heavy steps towards the side of the couch, assuming a vigilant-like state while surveying both the room and its occupants. There was a momentary glare towards her counter-part, but, for the moment, she said nothing.

Adelhein El-Melloi von Breyer
6a914243-7f9e-4ca1-bfe4-bef0fdd14499.jpg

Clearing his throat, Adelhein would address them. “Why don’t we begin mentioning something we might want to improve of our own magecraft or maybe something new we want to pursue? That would give me the first glimpse to what direction our studies might take us.” After saying that, his attention shifted to the dryad. He had learned that, while the theory and more nuanced aspects of magecraft were important, addressing the more pressing matters bore an immediate fruit.

Aqua nodded silently at Aureus encouragement, remembering that she's not alone in this situation. If his story was true then Aureus' situation was even more uncertain than her, yet he took all these events with confidence and calm demeanor. Aqua pinched her own cheeks to prevent herself from thinking weird stuffs any further.

As the group finally entered the mansion. Aqua followed silently behind, bowing politely to the golems like she just passed a patrolling sentient guards. Her eyes keep wandering around and she repeatedly glance towards the barrier that surround the manor. Her artisan self couldn't help but make a rough mental note of the ward's magical structure, she felts like she could use this to try something later.

When they reached the trophy room and was offered the seat, Aqua nodded and sat on one of the provided couches, leaning her knees and shoulders inward to take as little space as possible. The magus asked a question that had been in her mind for the last few days. Before, she wanted to learn water magic, now that she had learned it... what's next?

Searching for a way to make her magic more powerful would be a good goal and she's sure Adelhein would approve, but she wasn't really keen on fighting and didn't feel like making it her priority. Alternatively, she could hone her ability as an artificer, she hadn't really improve much since she received the news about Amanda Steelhaven's disappearance. She also started making catalysts as more of a hobby and didn't actually intend to pursue it further, at least for now.

"I... I want to improve my alchemy skill." Aqua decided to speak up first. "I-It's the thing that draws me into magic. I s-still have a lot to learn... Also, I want to learn healing magic."

"Oh sweet!" she replied to Gilgamesh, "Kinda a shame I couldn't bring anything back this time around but, considering how I was only fighting students and coworkers the entire time... that's probably for the best."

As the group made their way into the mansion, Demeter studied the area, carefully. This was going to be home from now on, wasn't it? There were armed golems who didn't seem to hold much interest in conversation. A faceless robotic maid who, much like the roomkeepers at the inn, would probably be keeping the place clean for them. And, then, the trophy room- where Demeter's face lit up with pride as she set sights upon two two heads that she'd brought back from her adventures.

The first of many, to be sure.

And, when it came to the question of improvement, her answer was almost as simple as Adelhein's was.

"I need more power," she answered bluntly, "That became... very clear on my last adventure when I got my hands on that."

She pointed towards the head of the automaton mounted on the wall.

"Out of everyone in my adventuring party, only two of us were able to quickly take down the machines we faced. I took down my fair share of machines as well, but it took too long to put down even one. Way too long. The strongest of us were able to take down many of them with a single blow. I wanna be like them. Strong and efficient."

Demeter recalled Rowan's wide-sweeping spell that incapacitated damn-near ever machine in a room in a single casting. She also recalled the strength of Ceylan's summon who could cleave a line of constructs in half with a single blow. The Burke Brothers would've found a handful of broken machines suspended upon pikes of the young dryad's creation, but each kill was a laborious task by her current abilities. Given how unpredictable adventuring could be?

She still had a long way to go before she saw her own abilities as even remotely adequate. But she understood that the potency of her spellcraft came with time and practice; not unlike a muscle.

"And I wanna be better at adventuring in general. Not just fighting, but keeping myself alive and supporting my party. One thing I've learned from working with the guilds is that they always send groups to do jobs. I'm going to be doing a lot of work for the adventurer's guild, so I'm probably going to be working with a group most of the time. Learning a few skill skills to strengthen my party as a whole, rather than just myself, seems like a good idea for that line of work, doesn't it?"

Demeter's interest in magic theory only extended to the limits at which it remained practical. And the skills she wished to develop extended far beyond simply magecraft. She was a nature spirit, and her connection and reliance upon magic was undeniable. But, when push came to shove, she strived to become a fine adventurer and a skilled traveler, not a scholar. The upside for Adlehein when dealing with this particular fae?

It would be fairly simple to determine the fields of study that our young, green adventurer was eager to dive into to bolster her chosen career path-

-and those that she would have little-to-no interest in.

Aureus Albion

Aureus nodded with a brief smile. Being glad their host approved and agreed with his goal. And then nodded again, with a more respectful expression when Artoria seemed satisfied with his secondary goal.

Once inside the estate, Aureus did his best to not panic upon seeing the groundkeepers. Deciding to lock his gaze ahead, trying to avoid angering them, even after Adelhein stated their harmless intentions towards them. And once inside the manor, the opulence and grace of both the inside and the servant that tended to them amazed Aureus. Was this the work of magic? Money? No, probably a mix of both, the elf concluded.

Once in the trophy room, which was just as impressive if not more. Aureus sat in a single seat couch, facing Adelhein and his summons. the magus' question put the elf into deep thought once again. Trying to think of what he wanted to do with his long road ahead in life.

Taking advantage of the initiative of Aqua and Demeter, Aureus leaned forward, setting his elbows near his knees, and resting his head on interlaced hands. When silence proved to be enough to take his turn, his eyes went from being lost somewhere in the immaculate floor, to focus on the man before him. With a deep breath, he said his piece. "I can think of three things. Much like Demeter, I would also like to become good at exploring. Adventuring, perhaps, could be a better word? As someone who is basically two months old, I feel like there is a lot out there I can learn from. My amnesia just spared my basic functions and basic knowledge of my area of magic, after all. Which leads me to..." The elf revealed a small wooden ball hidden in one of his pockets. Aureus held it from below with three fingertips, and with a flash of concentration, the top of the ball ignited, and started to burn gently "My magic is rudimentary. At best. But I would like to make the most of whatever potential my magic holds." Aureus' concentration grew, and his hand began to tremble. The flame flickered, turning into a bright white in brief bursts. The elf's concentration broke, with his breathing going heavy momentarily. Before going back to Adelhein, he poured magical energy into the ball, which shrunk and turned into a warm and darkened pebble, which went back into the pocket. "I've had dreams. Of a massive building of pure light, where a voice calls for me, I don't understand what it's saying, but I feel its call. In the dreams, I am not only a powerful alchemist, but a wielder of that voice's light. But as you just saw, I am far from really reaching whatever might I have. It's foreign and confusing." The elf shrugged. "That might be my way, whatever it really means." The elf then smiled with a paradoxically sad visage and leaned back to take a brief rest. "I also find you all interesting in one way or another. So I'd like to befriend you. Simple as that." Despite his apparent youth, Aureus did feel lonely. He wondered if he was alone before losing his memory, to no avail. His memories were most definitely gone without a trace. Which in itself also stinged.

She looked to Demeter and gave her a reassuring smile. "Thank you, your allyship is appreciated Demeter."

"Oh my I had no idea Aureus, that sounds like quite a tribulation, hopefully your memory will return with time, even so, you should be proud of yourself for making it this far, and I am glad that you'll be working with us."
Scarlett said with a bit of a look of concern on her face toward the first half, before it became warmer at the latter with her compliment.

Scarlett was pleased to hear Adelhein tell her that he was of a similar mindset as far as exploring and experimentation went. There was always the possibility for improvement as far as Scarlett was concerned, and even exploring what was deemed less efficient might lead to break throughs. She'd send a smile his way.

She'd then nod at the next part, "I'm certain your system would hold up to scrutiny even from powerful magic users."

It sounded like the others were there for reasonable enough reasons too, all would do well to improve their magic, none of them seemed to be in conflict with Adelhein's main goal which was ideal.

She stayed close and gave another soft smile and nod Adelhein's way when he welcomed her. Thank you, I'll do my best."

She'd move through the area and take note of the golems, glad to hear they were more so security detail than anything she'd need to worry about personally. Even if such beings did exist through the use of magitech in the Duchy, so it wasn't like it was unheard of to see them, they still found her interest, as she couldn't help but wonder how the magic worked that kept them going.

"Another layer of defense is certainly welcome." She'd reply to Adelhein's statement on them.

She also took note of the most curious maid, they were also interesting to her, a construct servant using magic to power them perhaps?

The interior of the space was impressive, even if Scarlett had been in others before as a Noble this one was certainly ornate.

Scarlett then took note of the Trophy room, and quickly got a better idea of what sort of head Demeter had been talking about, between the machine and animal one.

She'd diligently take a seat gently, taking one on the closer side to Adelhein, and she listened to the other's speak, all of their goals seeming reasonble enough. Alchemy could certainly involve magic, Demeter had a lofty set between getting stronger and being able to wipe the field of enemies as well as support her allies from the sound of things,

Then there was Aureus who had his own reasons to improve, a most curious voice involved as well.

"Well Aureus, should we continue to work together I don't see why we couldn't all become good friends truthfully." She'd speak optimistically on the matter, before getting into her own business.

"I think all of you have goals which are actionable and sensible."

"As for myself, even from when I was quite young my uncle told me one day I'd make quite the Battle Magician if I was anything like his brother, and well..I've found that even my own more rudimentary skills have suggested he may be correct in his judgement. My current skills work advantageously in closer range encounters, and I've more recently acquired some farther range ones..however both areas need improvement if I want to become a formidable force in..well battle."

"There is also the fact that I will need to work on honing transformation magic if I ever wish to become a proper Battle Magician, the third element which is quite important and largely unexplored on my end, so I hope I'll be able to learn more how to go about that, but in short, improving close range and long range, and then acquiring and improving transformation magic are the three areas which are key to reach my goals."

"As far as adventurin is concerned it certainly isn't a bad idea for our respective goals and could allow us to use our abilities to help people along the way, so should we decide to bring our focus into doing some of that sort of work, I am not opposed."
She'd try her best to articulate to the group.

Trophy Room

Black Liliana - Umineko When They Cry

As the conversation proceeded in the Trophy Room, it didn’t take too long for the door to the chamber to be opened and the mercury-like maid to step into the room. On its hands, it carried a rather large tray with quite a selection of refreshments: jar of juices with floating ice cubes in them, kettles containing teas and even a few bottles of wines. In addition, there were bowls filled with pastries.

The maid would dutifully place the tray on top of the center table, not really appearing to pay any attention to the chatter surrounding it. Voicelessly, it would offer the drinks to each of those present, motioning towards the options.

Adelhein El-Melloi von Breyer
6a914243-7f9e-4ca1-bfe4-bef0fdd14499.jpg

One by one, Adelhein listened to the goals of those present, starting by Aqua. “My library has quite a few volumes on alchemy, which I’m sure they would be valuable on improving your skills on it.” He said, having an expression of resignation as a goblet of wine was suddenly placed in his hand by a leaning and smirking Gilgamesh. Peering at its contents for a moment, he resumed. “Alchemy is not a subject I have direct practice in, but it was part of the course during my studies, back on my homeland.”

Bringing the goblet to his lips, the young magus pretended to sip from it, in a rather well-practiced manner. “As for healing magic, that is a field I have quite a bit of experience in [Healing D], thanks to some extended family. So it would be something I can teach you directly.” His eyes would shift towards Artoria for a moment. “It is an excellent way to avoid… ‘surprises’ and a very valuable tool.”

Artoria
Saber-Alter-5-fixed.png

And as Demeter spoke, pointing at the head of the mechanoid, Artoria shifted slightly. There was something which gleamed behind her golden eyes, a barely restrained feeling. “Those puppets must have been quite the opposition. A challenge to really test one where one find themselves at.” She commented, truly wishing to have crossed swords with the metallic being and crushed it beneath her foot. She had been idle for too long.

Adelhein El-Melloi von Breyer
6a914243-7f9e-4ca1-bfe4-bef0fdd14499.jpg

“It sounds prudent to diversify and acquire useful skills if you are working with a group for certain. Even more if you are able to cover their weaknesses or enhance what they have to offer.” Everything made sense so far. “Just remember to take in consideration that the same allies might not be present in different requests. That is, at least when we don’t embark on it ourselves.” Power by power’s sake was useless in Adelhein’s eyes and sitting on an Ivory Tower didn’t catch his fancy one bit. Guild requests, regardless of how mundane they might be, offered some usage for this power. Furthermore, it allowed for accruing prestige directly.

Gilgamesh
5ec7067a-593e-480e-be56-b13bb9c3da5b.jpg

Gilgamesh, who had been taking generous, deep sips of the wine-filled-goblet held in her hand was leaning ever closer to Adelhein. She watched the pyrotechnical display from Aureus with some degree of interest, which increased as soon as he talked about his dreams. “So you believe you are glimpsing of who you should become? Interesting…” By then, the faintest of crimson hue painted her cheeks. Shifting slightly on her seat, the arm who had been around Adelhein’s shoulder moved, so that her hand could rest on her Master’s knee. “... Artoria knows all about predestination, isn’t that right?” With her attention shifting towards the corrupted king, a mocking grin accompanied it.

Artoria
Saber-Alter-5-fixed.png

In turn, Artoria furrowed her eyebrows, both knowing and not being all too-pleased with what Gilgamesh was hinting at. With her stoic expression returning, she offered. “One can never be too careful with who or what might be whispering those dreams. Otherwise, it could be simply a memory.”

Adelhein El-Melloi von Breyer
6a914243-7f9e-4ca1-bfe4-bef0fdd14499.jpg

The situation of Aureus’ memory struck a chord with Adelhein. Their situation, while not identical, shared quite many similarities. The difference? The teenager had come to this world with someone. Bringing the goblet to his lips, this time around he took an actual sip, a hard gulp to mask the creeping blush on his pale cheeks and momentarily loss for words. “I’m quite new to this world myself, probably about a month, so I’m still getting used to it.” Revealing in full, he continued. “Just like with Aqua, I’m certain the library will have the knowledge to improve your alchemy. As for the voice’s light, seems like it will be a new territory to thread. While I can’t be certain I’m familiar with it, we could see how a more structured approach to it would be able to help with its mastery.”

Turning his head to his side, Adelhein’s attention was then focused on Scarlett. The more he got to know her, the more similar their backgrounds appeared to be. The young magus could easily see the crimson-haired girl as a member of a magi family in the Clock Tower. “Transformation Magic… that is also new territory for me.” He wondered what that entailed more specifically. “There are ways to attain longer ranges immediately without the proper mastery, let’s say. However, they usually come at the cost of poorer control and reduced potency. But it can be useful in a pinch. I can show you how.” Not a permanent solution by all means, but it seemed like a first step.

Artoria
Saber-Alter-5-fixed.png

The mention of close-quarter combat had piqued Artoria’s interest, after all that was her specialty. “Magecraft or not, the fundamentals of melee combat could end up being beneficial for you. If you wish, and my Master allows it, we could practice, train and spar. Of course, practice will never be a substitute for real combat.” The corrupted king said, her armor creaking as she shifted slightly.

Gilgamesh
5ec7067a-593e-480e-be56-b13bb9c3da5b.jpg

“Mmm, such a dutiful little Servant~ Aren’t you fortunate, my dear Master?” Gilgamesh teased with a melodious voice, taking another deep gulp of the wine and giving Adelhein’s knee a tentative squeeze. In the next moment, she would become a tad more serious. “But the Wyrm is right. The rehearsal might prepare you for a play, but only the actual play prepares you for other plays, when you risk embarrassing yourself in front of the crowd.”

Adelhein El-Melloi von Breyer
6a914243-7f9e-4ca1-bfe4-bef0fdd14499.jpg

“Indeed I am…” Adelhein answered briefly before taking a sip of the wine. Well, all in all, it appeared that both of them were getting along better, right? Or, at least, there was less hostility. The idea of setting out and adventuring was fine as well with him. And, looking at all those present, he posed the next question. “How about we rehearse for a bit?”

Demeter
Demeter.png

Demeter's eyes narrowed slightly.

Although she was anything but eloquent with her words, she'd followed Artoria's metaphor so far; even as Gilgamesh and Adelhein built upon it. A supposed training exercise for the group. Everyone there wanted different things. Aqua and her alchemy. Scarlett and her martial arts. Aureus and his... well, his goals actually aligned with her own the most. But, either way, most of their interests overlapped at a single point. They wanted to hone the skills needed to survive on long journeys full of unknown dangers and challenges.

Adventuring, one might say.

It was the last thing that she was expecting that day. Or, really, it wasn't something that she was expecting at all until the next time that she made her way down to the adventurer's guild. But, she loved the job she'd chosen for herself. She needed all the experience she could get. She was eager to see what everyone was capable of outside of... a dramatic situation where they were up against a a construct who might've taken everyone out if they hadn't fled. But, most importantly...

...she might've been completely misinterpreting what the three of them meant by 'rehearse' in the first place. So, with a furrowed brow and an undeniable look of curiosity written all over her face, Demeter would give a rather simple reply to Adelhein's proposition.

"What did you have in mind?"
