RWBY: The Years Before: Shadow of Grim

Curve shrugged. "More valuable than daylight. And plentiful as well." Curve snarled at anyone who came close to him in the warehouse, and was avoided by the workers. They probably didn't know who he was yet, but they certainly knew he wasn't someone you messed with. Getting back in the van, not the least bit curious about the package (it wasn't his business afterall), or Ivory's brother, he held onto his handle in the van, more relaxed this time. The shipping company's warehouse was a place he added to the "important" file in his brain. He'd send fudge and jackal to talk to the person who controlled this turf, if anyone. One thing was certain, he'd need this company under his thumb to maximize transport from here to Vacuo.

Aqua Marine

Aqua was pacing in her dorm, impatiently clicking her boots together now and then. She could study, but she didn't foresee her efforts yielding much of a result. Nah. If Aqua was gray on a subject, she would just have Obsidian explain it to her. He had a way of painting the contents of a dull length of text, into something she could actually understand.

Having her fill of solitude within those four walls, Aqua made her departure to Beacon's halls. A moment's walk, and she saw a familiar face. He didn't seem his usual self.

"Hey Sid!" Aqua called, sprinting toward him. She ruffled his hair, and then gave him a little jab on the chin. "What's up? You seem extra broody." She said, a grin playing at her lips.

~~~
Obsidian Nightfall
Aqua's sudden, and very forward approach caused Obsidian to jump. His heart skipped a beat, and he was now instantly alert. He scoffed, as she went through her usual antics. It was almost ritual by now. "Oh, you know. Helped a friend in need, saved a life. Hero stuff." He said, straightening his posture and flexing. Clearly exaggerated, by the excessive boldness in both his tonality and stance.
However, this would grow an edge more serious. His posture reverted to its usual lax state. "Seriously, though. I met some unique individuals. The members of Team Ghost." Sid chuckled then. "There's one in particular, named Grovyn. He doesn't seem to be one to waste words. He speaks little, but when he does it's meaningful."
~~~

Aqua Marine

"Wait a minute. You went on an exciting adventure without me!? I'm hurt." Aqua whined. She then snickered, and walked with Obsidian. Aimlessly, apparently. "Sounds like this Grovyn's a little like someone else I know." She said, shooting him a glance. "You weren't very social at Signal. And even now I don't see you coming out of your shell that often. But that's alright." Aqua continued, wrapping an arm around him. "That's why you've got me."

~~~
The two of them continued walking, Obsidian explaining the mornings events in greater detail.
Interesting.
Hannes overheard part of their conversation, well, without any context. He didn't have the sharper hearing and absolutely astounding night vision that all Faunus have, but he did have a bit of a duller version of it. And that was enough to help him hear the conversation from his height. He couldn't hear any murmuring that they did, but since it was a conversation between the three, he could well enough hear it.
So there might be some sneaking out done later tonight? And a few other characters I have yet to meet. Sward and, Carter? Not sure who either of those are, but they're apparently included into this. It's big enough of an issue that they can't tell Ozpin, or whoever Carter is. Potentially another teammate? Probably. The only one on the team he can trust, apparently.
Maybe I should sneak along with them on their little Grimm mission and see what happens?
Leaning back against the pillar for support, the breeze was strong being so high up. But it didn't bother him, since he could always just change the air current around him if it bothered him too much. Trying to overhear more of the conversation, it didn't seem like it was going to continue, as they were all going to head back to the dorm. They might make some small talk on the way, so maybe he should stay up here until they fully leave, before heading off to the cliff. He said he was going to talk to
them , but it was a big "if" situation. But considering human nature, that was probably for pure reassurance. He probably was going to go along, and he could well get over a week-long detention. Which is risky, indeed, especially because it's Beacon.
But, it would be a nice change of pace, really.
Never being one to have received affection, he was absolutely shocked when she jumped on him, to, uh, embrace him? Not understanding it in the slightest unless in combat, the moment that she let go, he instinctively jumped back onto the windowsill, his hands guarded in front of him as if she was going to strike.
Though, her words seemed to be nice enough. He didn't speak his mind, true. But he didn't particularly enjoy making a waste of words. Unless he was told that he had to be a contributor to something, or if something was in urgent need of managing, he wouldn't deal with it. And it was a spar they were dealing with, anyway, so it wasn't exactly a dire situation. But he already agreed to let Clover be a leader, at least for now. Having a branch of his personality stemming off of his father, if she appears unworthy to be a leader in any situation, he might as well take matters into his own hands.
After an awkward minute or two of him up on the windowsill, he managed to comprehend the fact that she was not indeed a threat, and, the embrace probably was some sort of comfort? Either way, he shrugged his shoulders, but remained standing on the windowsill as he dropped both of his arms to his side. Sighing, he leaned down a little and patted the top of her head with his palm. Grovyn wasn't exactly used to any form of, affection, but he might as well do this as thanks.
"... thanks. You're a nice person."
Jumping off of the windowsill, he went over to the door to leave. He might as well go look for his dorm, since no one else seems to know where it is. And he doubts that any of them left the infirmary, except for maybe Aures.
"Anyone ever tell you that you have a weird way of talking?" Ivory asked honestly as the van brought her to the next destination. "I suppose not..." She added after a few momets. She moved to leave the van only to pause. "Stay here...I won't take long." She said before she left the van and closed the door. She gave a small sigh before she disappeared behind one of the buildings. Ten minutes pass before she walked back into view, a scalpel twirling in her hand before sliding into her sleeves. "Okay, we can go back now." She said as she entered the van. (pls tag me)
At a table in the cafeteria, a boy was sitting down, one hand was thumping the table while the other was twirling a flare gun. The boy took a deep breath and exhaled, looking out, seeing the other training huntsmen and huntresses before finally getting up. Once he got up, he began to talk to himself, "Will I need to actually use this flare gun for what flare guns are used for..." The boy sighed before looking back at his paper with his team mates on it. "We were suppose to meet up here, and they are late..." The boy sighed before resting his head on the cafeteria table, waiting for his team mates to arrive.
Curve put his foot in the door before it closed. His tattoos glowed as he opened it again. "Once again I question the nature of legality of these errands." Curve stepped out of the van, cracking his knuckles. "I'd like to know what you did." Was it his business what Ivory did? No. But now, it was. She had acess to a seemingly backwater way of trade with a shipping company. He was pretty sure the company would usually just send whatever it was to her. That wasn't too strange, and easily explainable. But she wanted him to stay in the van for this one. Now THAT was what set Curve's radar off. Ivory could be a valuable asset to his orginization, she knew the land, knew the people, knew the perks of the system. What had started off as a boring night was beginning to be quite valuable indeed.
Aqua Marine
An instant after, Aqua came bursting through the cafeteria doors with Obsidian in tow. She sprinted to the boy she recognized from Team Dodge's roster, the leader. "Sorry!" She said, skidding to an abrupt halt in front of the table in which Dello had been previously seated. "We totally lost track of time. You would not believe the traffic." Aqua continued, a bead of sweat running down the curve of her cheek. Way to make a first impression. She thought.
Obsidian Nightfall
"Hello." Obsidian said, having approached far more calmly. After all, they were already late. "Sorry for the tardiness." He continued, rubbing the back of his neck. He slid into the nearest chair, and brought his hands to a fold over the table. Their leaders response to the delay would at least allude to what was in store for the next four years.
Dello's head sprang upwards once he heard voice directed at himself. He took a sigh of relief knowing his teammates weren't to the point that they needed a baby sitter. Dello smiling, he looked over back to his paper for a moment then to his teammates. "You must be Aqua," he pointed to her then directed his finger to Obsidian, "and you must be Obsidian." Dello finished scratching the back of his head as he looked at both of them. "Well, you eventually made it and you seem genuinely sorry about it. So I'll let it go." Dello looked over to his flare gun before placing it on the table. "I'm just glad I didn't need to look for you, it probably would have been easy considering I come from a family of rangers. I just figured, being the leader I had to show up here first and earliest." Dello smiled.
Grau Kohlrabenschwarz
((Will add my end of the conversation with Azure here))
Grau entered the cafeteria, calm grey eyes scanning his surroundings as he made his way towards the counter where food was served. However, halfway there, he paused, spotting the rest of his team sitting at a table. Dello, their leader whom was two years younger than Grau and admittedly less mature, Obsidian, who had a rather sharp temper, and then... Aqua... the faunus who was so faunus they were more animal than human. As good and kind as he tried to be, he simply couldn't look at Aqua and not feel... strange. It wasn't exactly disgust, or anxiety, it was just... a negative feeling. She was just different, and the way he was raised screamed that she was abnormal, a monster even, although he'd disagree. She wasn't that interesting for conversation in his eyes, being how.. abrasive she could act at times. He continued moving up to the counter, retrieving his food before heading over.
He sat down beside them, only giving a simple nod in greeting, as he began to dig into his lunch.
"Oh what I'm doing is perfectly legal." She replied, shifting her hands slightly. "I just...asked encouraged a few individuals to stop what they were doing...nothing illegal about that." She gave a sheepish smile. "Come on, I wanna go eat dinner and go home and I don't care which goes first, you coming?"
"Hey.... Not a problem...." Silas said as Grovyn left, she felt sad that he left. She felt as if she had scared him off. So she closed everything up, leaving her team's dorm unlock, and went to bed. "Goodnight..... Grovyn...." she said before dozing off.
Dello looked over to the man that had just taken his seat, Dello was a bit puzzled by the mans lack of greeting. Dello frown, "and I assume you must be Guar... well how about you be the first to introduce what you enjoy and don't enjoy friend..." Dello told Guar, hoping Guar would show a bit more respect to him teammates he had just met.
If Ivory wasn't the one 'doing anything'... What were the other doing? Curve immediately put two and two together. The 'others' were a local gang... And Ivory was a (not so) masked avenger. She was attempting to clean the city of criminals. She mignt not like to find out he was the leader of a Cartel back in Vacuo. 'Not a cartel,' he corrected himself, 'alternate law enforcement.' "Well." Curve exclaimed, "You should have told me sooner. As a matter of fact, I'm here to put down the gangs. I've done some reading. Crime rate's at an all time high in Vale. That's one of the reasons I came." That wasn't a lie. Curve had come here to make his orginization the top dogs. And with them up there, nobody else could do any harm inside the cities limits, or face his wrath. "It's what I did in Vacuo, it's what I intend to do here. I do have a small group that's dedicated to my cause. But I need more people." Curve set together his little speech with just the right touch. He did need Ivory's help. He did want her to join his orginization. And wasn't she just perfect? She used all the right methods. It appeared people were afraid of her. That's something that wouldn't need to change, but she'd also have to learn that being openly respected was also something that was good. "I'd like to ask you to join my alternate law enforcement orginization." Curve said, his tattoos glowing.
"Grau," he corrected, looking over at Dello for a few moments, ignoring Aqua and Obsidian entirely. "Grau Kohlrabenschwarz," he added. He didn't particularly care enough to speak at the moment, having never particularly gotten along well with his team. "Nothing to say," he answered quite simply. If they were heading into the second semester now, and Dello was just now trying to get to know his teammates, it was a little... pathetic, admittedly.
"...Give me a moment to think about it..." She replied after a few moments of silence. 'Best go along, dunno why he's going on about thi-wait...does he think...' She thought quietly. "I don't know about joining for now and I'd like to see this group before making a decision, but I'll definitely help if you need it. That's what friends are for." She finally replied after 5 minutes of silence.
Curve nodded. He understood. Ivory was being careful. He appreciated that. His dialouge was, of course, and predicted, to convince a becon student with a clean legal record to join him and promote the 'good' of his orginization, to be the more public figures while he and the other members went about doing what they did best. In the event she was misleading here, and she actually was a criminal, she would be able to see through that once she started working in his orginization. "Of course." Curve said, looking at his watch, "Tonight is not a good time to meet the others. It's nearly 12'oclock." Curve would have gotten into the car after that, if not for someone running into him.
Now Curve had seen enough people get pickpocketed to figure out when it happened. He'd met enough pickpockets too. And nothing was illegal unless you got caught. But Curve could tell here, he was being pickpocketed. And the fact someone even had the nerve to interact with him... That would have never happened in Vacuo, he was too feared, too well known. Curve gritted his teeth, his arm blade shooting out. As the person ran past, he grabbed him by the collar, effectively choking them. He could feel his victim struggle, and a shout escaped their lips.
Reprocssion was swift. Curve slammed the person against the side of the van. His tattoos glowed, and the van rocked from the impact. Curve stabbed the person in the gut with his blade, once, twice, multiple more times. The victim gurgled, spitting blood onto his face and front, but Curve kept at it. One final shank to the stomach, pulling the blade up to the bottom of the ribcage, and whatever was left of the persons insides would soon fall out. Tossing the person away from the van, the victim staggered, teetering on his feet for just a few moments before Curve let on with a vicious downward slash, brutally evicerating the person. They spun and fell backwards, lying facedown in the alleyway, half of it hanging off their fractured skull, intestines oozing out onto the pavement. Curve snorted, retrieved his wallet from where it lay on the ground, and retracted his arm blade. "Well that's unfortunate." Curve mused, wiping the side of his face with his hand, and stepping into the van, "I just had this cleaned."
Aqua Marine
Aqua stretched her legs, crossing her feet over the chair across from her. Her arms were draped lazily over the arms of her chair. Never one for formalities. One eyebrow lifted, at Grau's vague response. In light of an actual encounter, she recollected what other Faunus said about his family. Their anti-Faunus agenda was certainly cringe-worthy. Aqua hadn't rendered much form of judgement on Grau, in that respect. He seemed well mannered enough, in their brief encounters. Aqua wasn't one to generalize, and put little stock in rumors, in any case.
She cut in after him. Probably out of turn.
"Let's see. I like fish, one-night flings, pearls, boys, adventure novels.." Aqua was moving down a list, a finger rising in correspondence to each mention. "I think I might have a secret crush on Ms. Goodwitch. Oh, and parties. Um, twisty straws. And Maelstrom, of course." She continued, with a gesture to the harp on her back.
"I dislike cold-weather, vegetables, dull lectures, fake people, and racism." Aqua continued, turning her sea-colored eyes to Obsidian when she was done speaking.
~~~

Obsidian Nightfall

Being the last to speak, Obsidian realized that there was hardly a standard set for him, in what would be an adequate response. Grau hadn't said anything, and Aqua had pretty much spilled her guts.

"Well, aside from hunting, I enjoy flying. I also like to play chess, and spar with others. Pretty much anything competitive. I take my studies seriously. I feel I should apologize though. I've been so absorbed in them all semester, that I haven't made much of an effort in getting to know anyone." Obsidian briefly paused, dark eyes turning to the ceiling above. "As far as things I don't enjoy are concerned.. I dunno. Pretty standard things. Bullying. Sore losers. Superficial people. Birds." Obsidian shrugged, somewhat oblivious to the fact that his last mention wasn't very standard at all. "Otherwise, I'm pretty easy to get along with."

Dello just looked at Grau and sighed "My bad, I'm not the best at pronouncing names at times. Well, I won't bug you right now, but we'll be stuck with each other for four years so, It might be the best to open up now instead of just eating away at your meal." Dello continued to look at Grau with a concern look, quickly turned to the others with a smile. "Well, I for one enjoy the outdoors, bread, and ironically enough, games!" Turning his head directly at Obsidian, he started to make a friendly tease "Well, as long as you don't wish for the birds to be extinct I have no problems." Turning to his weapon, he held up his flare gun in awe "And this is probably my prized possession! My weapon is able to fire out power flare bullets, I love it so much..." Dello, almost to the point of drooling, quickly snapped out of it 'bout before looking at the rest of his group. "Hey if you two are hungry might as well get something now, It's pretty late, I've already eaten and well, as you can see Grau is already eating. After that, we should head to our dorm and get situated."

Aqua Marine

Aqua didn't need to be told twice. The mention of food, and she was gone, both chairs spinning sharply in the wake of her exit. She returned shortly after, two large fish crisscrossed on her tray. As habit dictated, she tossed Obsidian the apple. She was quiet as she ate, content to listen until she finished.

~~

Obsidian Nightfall

Obsidian snickered at Dello's comment. A curious gaze took a brief analysis on their leaders revealed weapon. "I have never seen a flare gun weaponized." He mused. "I can't wait to see it in action." The apple was all Obsidian was content to eat, as he wasn't particularly hungry.

The night was cool. The man was camouflaged perfectly on the opposite side of the street. He watched as his target bumped into a stranger (Curve), and the repercussion afterwords. This was a disaster. He was ordered to follow one of the neutral gangs' lieutenants by his leader. Now he was nothing more but a bloody corpse. Great just great, he'll have to report his failure. He took a quick picture of the body so it can be identified, but as he was about to leave he over heard the stranger mentioning his new gang and his search for allies and recruits. The man then thought not all may have been lost. He may have lost an opportunity but another one seemed to have open up right before him. He then disappeared without making a sound and without leaving a single trace of evidence. Some time passed and soon found himself in front of Jett.

"So Mr. Eye Patch... What news do you have for me?" Jett was pacing around the man along with a group of beowulfs. Anticipating to hear the news. "Sir. I have failed in convincing the target. He is dead." Jett grabbed his blade and held it right in front of the man's adams apple. "I did not authorize to kill him! I said you can use force but not kill!" The man showed little to no emotion. His eyes were dark and colorless. "There is more to this sir." "OH? What of it!?" The man handed the picture to Jett. Jett lowered his weapon away from the man. He began to laugh a little. "You are correct. How convenient. I know who this person is. He is some hotshot who plans on taking my territory with his gang of misfits. And you saw what happened and have proof? Delightful! Just wondrous. Now that I have what I want (Grimm start nearing the man.) Why shouldn't I kill you now?" The man still remained calm. "Because I can handle myself in a fight, and I am your best spy, and I know that your boss doesn't like it when great assets like me are killed off without reason. I am also the one who was responsible for convincing a good amount of the gangs to join. " Jett then sheathed his blade. "A smart man and fast talker. I like that. What is your name?" The strangers eyes shined for a split second. "O'Malley. George O'Malley." Well O'Malley. I believe you are worthy of being promoted in our little organization. (Reacts to intercom coming in from radio in his mask) Hmm?? okay. The head boss has given me permission to promote you. You are now one of us. You just won new set of armor and weapons designed by our beloved leader designated for your job. He held out his hand. "Welcome to the team comrade. Now that you are one of us the boss told me for you to visit the neutral gang to report this... tragedy. After words you meet up with our fellow comrades at this location. Don't worry I'll tell them of your arrival. That is all." As O'Malley began to put his new suit of armor on and grasped his weapon. The last thing was the helmet. As he put it on a red light glared out of it.

Dello, with a wide grin, held out his hand in the middle of the group, "Well, I guess together, we are team DOAG!...heh..." Dello chuckled, stopping once his hand fell back to his side with a frown on his face. He let out a big sigh, "Look, I know I'm acting like this is our first meeting but... that seemed like the high point in our team career...as a team, we don't really get along that well, we aren't the best at anything because of that." Dello, looked to the ground at his feet, noticing the strains of dirt on the floor... "Our team just feels...dirty... so, maybe we can forget about the past, and make new memories, hopefully removing any issues we've had and making sure they don't happen again?... I just think we can do better, you know..." Dello, continued to look at the floor, not really trying to look at his teammates, "I just think I've failed as a leader..." Dello finished, brushing up his hair, it was a way he relieved stress... "So, maybe we can just try again?" Dello asked, looking back at the rest of his teammates for their opinion.

Obsidian Nightfall

Noticing Dello's discomfort, Obsidian smiled, encouragingly so. "Hey." He said, gently thumping the table with his fingertips. "You'd only have failed, if our team remained just like this after graduation. Where failings are concerned.. I wanted so badly to excel as a huntsman, that I think I'd forgotten one of its core fundamentals. Teamwork. I'm willing to put forth the effort to help our Dodge excel as well as myself."

Aqua Marine

"Well.." Aqua said, shifting in her seat. "It just wouldn't do if I was part of a team of losers." She said, folding her arms, and grinning. "So, I'm all about forgetting about our little mishaps. Let's rock. Those other teams are in for a treat." She sat up straight, and leaned forward, looking at Dello. "So, chin up! It's obvious why you were made leader. You were the first to put the team before your own agenda."

Grau Kohlrabenschwarz

Grau simply shrugged in response. "I'm fine with us "restarting", aslong as we... atleast try and be serious about it this time," he said, giving Aqua an accusing look, before turning his gaze back to Dello. All their interests were foreign to him, except sparring and studying from Obsidian. He had so little in common with his teammates, that he wished that he had been without one instead. He'd arguably be better off that way, if he thought about it. He was a Kohlrabenschwarz, trained from birth for becoming a Hunter. Aqua didn't even take it seriously, Dello was nothing more than a child, and Obsidian was the only decent one there, even if he was as interesting as a brick and had anger issues.

A giant smile entered Dello's face, feeling the sense of warmth from some of his teammates. He bounced up from his seat and took a big stretch putting his weapon away, and faced away from his teammates. "Well, then I assume tomorrow will be the first day of our restart!" Twirling around, he faced his group, his eyes seemed to sparkle with excitement. "I appreciate you folks playing along, even you Grau." he said turning his direction to Grau. "Team Dodge will be a better team than before, don't you worry!" moving his body to an angle where he could face the rest of the group, he began to talk again, "Well, once you guys are done eating y'all should head back first thing. Sleep is a beautiful thing! In all honestly that's what I'm about to do, so see ya!" Dello said, turning his back to walk to the door. He stopped for a moment, and turned his head," Oh, and remember to throw away all those bad memories with your food!" Dello finished, for resting his hand on the doors and pushed then to leave the cafeteria.

What's that mean?" Aqua retorted, shooting Grau a glare upon the realization that she'd been the foremost target of his statement. She stuck her tongue out, and continued. "Where's the fun in being super serious, all the time? Why ya always gotta look so..... GRIMM!" She snickered, and looked to the others. "Huh!? That was good right!? Cause you know.."

Obsidian Nightfall

Obsidian chucked the core of his apple into the nearest trash can, and then face-palmed upon Aqua's attempt at humor. "Well, that hurt." He said. "But seriously. Once we can at least tolerate one another, that should translate well when we have to coordinate attacks. From what I understand, we each have very flexible skill sets. If we all fare pretty well on our own, then with some synchronicity we should be able to handle even tougher combat situations without much of a headache."

Both Aqua and Obsidian would make their departure shortly after their leader did. They'd await Grau to accompany them back, a brand new custom in itself.
