Caught in a storm
beacon.png

250 years have passed since Salem had been defeated. Men have weaknesses. One of those is their ability to quickly forget and move on from the horrors of the world. What happens when you forget the very things you should be afraid of? You become weak to those who haven't. So prepare yourselves for a new story. One that shouldn't be so easily forgotten. One where the very foundations of your reality beg to be shattered.

It was a big day for them. Many had began boarding the plane to beacon. People had different reasons for trying to attend beacon. Some gathered to become hunters, some gathered for power. Whatever their reasons everyone had arrived on the same path.

The airship had no seats. It was safe enough for everyone to walk around and stand and chat with eachother. As the airship had taken to the sky the previous buildings of Vale had begun to disappear from sight as nothing but skies and clouds could be seen as the ship smoothly flew through the sky. The windows allowed those to peek outside as the ground further disappeared.

Students began to interact with eachother. Many different appearances and many different weapons could be seen being carried. Chatter filled the plane as people prepared themselves for Beacon. They had all been accepted and would strive to graduate and become huntsmen and huntresses. Some in the shadows would be waiting to see them fail and stumble but for them they had no awareness of what would come.

A TV by the wall of the plane had been brought to life as a woman had appeared on the screen.
"Many Dust Shops around Vale have been under attack lately, we encourage everyone to remain safe during the night-time and stay indoors. If you or anyone have any info regarding these attacks please report them to the local authorities. Thank you this is Morgan Brightridge signing out."
The TV turned off resulting in nothing but a black screen. Students continued to converse with one another as they prepared to arrive at Beacon.

Korin stood aboard the plane as people chatted with eachother. Red Valkyrie sat on her shoulders mounted up in DMR mode. She felt uncertain about being here. In a short while there wouldn't be a way out. Deep down she felt cowardly. It was because she was so fearful of the risks of becoming a huntress that she was so easily able to fire the killing shot at a Grimm. People reacted in different ways to Korin. Some thought her ruthlessness and efficiency made her scary. Some people thought she was emotionless. She honestly felt more sad than anything. If she could count the amount of people standing aboard the plane, how many of them would live to the age of 30.

Huntsmen didn't live long usually. Many died at relatively young ages and the chance of even succeeding in becoming a huntsmen wasn't guaranteed. Her own skillset didn't really leave her much option and with her father pressuring her to become a huntsmen, attending beacon ended up being what happened. She remembered her time at Signal and even crafting Red Valkyrie. Another reminder just how much she feared the reality of the world.

Looking around she saw plenty of people happily conversing. Korin wasn't fond of making friends usually. She would go to lengths to make herself stand out less. She wasn't rude to people, she just didn't like getting close enough to people to be affected by their deaths. She pulled her own hoodie over her head obscuring her face only that her red hair could be seen. Her attention was brought to the TV when it turned on. The newswoman could be seen talking about recent attacks that had been going on at dust shops. Korin had her theory that someone was starting something big. Only someone preparing a huge battle would need so much dust. Or someone trying to sell it. But that only brought it back to why they would need such money and that likely also entailed a battle.

Korin stood in silence his back leaning against the cold wall of the plane. His eyes darted back and forth between the others on board, trying to judge their skill. According to the news, dust was being stolen and at a fast rate. Chances are this wasn't a coincidence, but he was at Beacon now, it's best to leave this to the authorities. An Arcueid as a huntsman wasn't unordinary, but going to an academy was a different matter. Arséne's father was hesitant to send him, saying that he could gain his license by continuing his training with the tutors. But there was something needed here at Beacon and hopefully, he can find it in the next four years.

Allium has so far avoided talking to anyone. She knows she needs to make friends but... that would involve talking to people. No one has initiated conversation with her yet, and she’s worried it might be because of the pair of buzzing boxes she is pulling around in a little wagon. Allium hopes that’s not the case. Her bees are very friendly and wouldn’t sting anyone without good reason!

Maybe she should talk to someone? She looks around desperately for someone who isn’t already engaged and... He looks nice enough? Maybe?

Allium makes her way over to a boy in fancy clothes. She hopes he isn’t a snob.

“Uh, hi?” She tries to start a conversation, “My- my name’s Allium. What’s yours?”

Allium screams internally at herself for being completely useless at this. She knows she’s just messed up. He seems to be a fancy guy! He probably knows, like, manners and stuff. This is horrible, she’s going to get kicked out of Beacon! She’s going to get banished from Vale itself!

Allium stares blankly as she internally panics, her nervousness starting to show.

Geist GrauwolkeShe propped her weapon case against the wall of the vehicle, and draped her coat over it. Having settled down for the trip, she patted her weapon case reassuringly, as if it were a pet, and gazed out of the window, watching Vale disappear into the clouds. She folded her arms and leaned against the window, watching the blue and white pass by her. She glanced away from the window, observing those gathered in the same vehicle as her. Each and every one of them were prospective partners or teammates. This gave her reason to worry. Most of them looked to be fresh-faced graduates from some school or another. Few looked to be even ready for the field. She turned her attention back outside the window, one hand playing with her necktie absentmindedly. There were a few, however, that she took special note of. To tell by the bodies was not enough- a well-built frame did not often house a prepared mind. She was one such example, and she had been working with another like her for the longest time. No, it wasn't the bodies, it was the eyes that gave it away. Some, she noted, had cold, hardened eyes, but there were a few whose eyes burned bright with energy. These were the ones that she noticed the most. She wouldn't say they would survive, but she would put money on them having the most potential.

In battle, life was important, and there were simply two factors that made a hunter, in her opinion. One was the wisdom to recognise that death was but a misstep away. The other was to will to survive and fight. A true hunter possessed both traits- to know they were at death's door every time they sortied, but to understand that they should welcome that prospect, and not to be burdened by it. If those gathered here today understood half of these two, then they were already set. Geist rubbed the cloth of her coat, where the crest of AZ was. This way of life was how she survived for this long. No point resigning yourself to fate, and less still to look back at the losses of the past.

She looked up momentarily at the TV screen as it came to life. Dust shops, huh? Those weren't particularly her problem, but if she recalled, there was one such shop further down from Yurei's bakery. She scoffed at a passing idea. If these blackguards ended up in Yurei's sightlines, she worried for their health. That axe of hers was still lying around somewhere, she was sure of it. She turned away from the TV, looking for something else to catch her eye. Catch her eye, something did. A redhead across the plane, or more accurately, her rifle. From this distance, Geist could just barely make out its frame. She didn't think any other prospective hunter here carried mass-produced scrap metal like she did, so she assumed that weapon was fabricated by the redhead herself. Too short to be a sniper rifle, but the barrel and the frame did not make for effective short-ranged firepower. A marksman rifle perhaps? It sounded plausible for a hunter. Long enough ranged capabilities to avoid the claws of Grimm, but maneuverable enough that it didn't cripple the shooter at a closer range. If she was right, the gun also had transformation capabilities to cover for close-range combat. What weapon it was, she didn't exactly know. Perhaps a polearm, given the size and length of the weapon?

Geist continued to stare at the gun poised on the girl's shoulder, slowly stripping and re-constructing the gun itself in her mind's eye, deciphering the various ways to build a melee weapon around it, unaware that she looked to be glaring straight at the girl herself.

And so it finally arrived: the first day of school. After months of preparing lesson plans and way too much time wasted with the Vale educational board, it was finally time for the fruits of their labor to once again clash with the youth of today. The older students would hopefully be less rebellious while the younger less rash but Reggie wasn’t about to hold his breath. Such was life when you were younger, everything was just that much simpler. Well, not really since there were those of course born into less favorable circumstances but eh, the majority was simply too inexperienced to really see things for what they were. And maybe for good reason. Perspective was something everyone could use more of. That, and kindness.

The airship was getting closer and closer now and soon enough he’d get his first look at the new students. Possibly coworkers in the near future, and hopefully not as many dead before—or even after—then. He could only do his utmost to make sure that didn’t happen.

Yuki Ming
Location: Bullhead

Yuki idly watched the television through the corner of her eye, not really interested in the news but listening if only to distract herself. While it was a shame that these dust stores were getting hit, it didn't actually matter that much to her. One of the few advantages that bows had over firearms was that they didn't need dust nor dust ammunition to function. Sure it meant that she'd be using dust arrows a lot less, but those were a luxury that she could live without. A small lurch of the bullhead had he gripping Twilight Piercer even tighter in her hands, reminding herself exactly why she was trying to distract herself. The island native had only ever traveled via train or by boat, bullheads still didn't reach out to menagerie and a train was the cheapest option once she got on the mainland. Flying had sounded like such a cool idea at first, seeing everything from so high in the sky that everything would look like ants. That feeling lasted for all about five minutes after they took off, at which point her stomach began doing back flips and every shake sent her mind into another panic.

Eager to distract her mind Yuki began to look around the crowded bullhead at all of the other students. There were a few that stood out, either because of their appearance, or in one case a guy with what looked like an entire military cannon by their side, but for the most part all of their faces just blended together. Maybe it was because everyone stood out so much that she found herself looking at the side of a brown haired girl sitting in one of the seats. She must have gotten on the bullhead pretty early if she was able to snag a seat for herself, Yuki wished she were lucky enough to get one. Maybe then her stomach wouldn't be threatening to jump out and make a big first impression. The girl seemed to be glaring at another red haired girl and she wondered if the two had a history together.

"Maybe I should just stay out of it, not my place to butt in." Another rumble and suddenly her apprehension disappeared just like that. Making her way over to the girl she slowly nudged herself next to the large case propped up next to her and asked "So, do you know her?" She asked while nodding her head in the direction of the red headed girl "Cause you kind of look like you're trying to burn a hole in her with that glare."

Merlin had been nervous. Her future students would be arriving soon. She knew that Arthur had been brewing his own war and she had a feeling that he was simply waiting to set his plans into motion. She could see Regulus standing by the dropzone awaiting the students.

"How are you today Regulus? Awaiting our bright futures?" She said smiling. Well it was certainly a treat for Merlin to be able to led such a bright and hopeful school of students. She was the current headmaster of Beacon and as a former student at Beacon she had a fondness for the school. However she needed to make sure that he knew what was to come.

"As much as I'd love for there to only be pleasantries I do want you to know it's only a matter of time before Arthur makes his move. How long can we hold up the facades. There's almost a certainty the students will get involved at some point."

She said staring at the sky awaiting the sight of a plane. She stood next to Regulus as she spoke.

"I just hope that there won't be too much tragedy. We're sitting ducks here in Vacuo and at Beacon we're basically a pinpoint on a map."

Merlin hoped the students wouldn't have their eyes opened to the world too soon. She wasn't sure how long she could defend Beacon or what moves Arthur would take. But she would be ready for him. This time she would be

Arséne looked to his side to see a girl approach him, she introduced hereself but was quite obviously nervous while doing it. That wasn't proper etiquete when introducing yourself to others, especially if your trying to make a good first impression. But life is life, and to each their own. If she's at Beacon then there is surely something under all that shyness that'd make her an excellent Huntress. Not one to be rude, Arséne pushes himself off the wall and stands straight. "The name is Arséne, Miss Allium" he says holding his hand out to shake. "It's a pleasure to meet you."

Regulus adjusted his tie before saying, "Not gonna lie, it's getting harder and harder to keep up the good fight." He'd be lying if Regulus said he never expected anything bigger than the Grimm when he first took this job. But Huntsmen knew life wasn't as clear cut as the stories.

The overworked teacher sighed. On top of regular teaching duties he also had his responsibilities outside the curriculum--and paycheck--to deal with. Not that he was complaining for want of compensation, just sad that things weren't as simple as his schooling years made them out to be. If only good and evil was a black and white affair, he lamented.

"But we'll manage." He straightened his back. "That's what we do, after all."

Arget Iuris
Plane to Beacon
"Whew!" exclaimed Argent as the Air craft began to take off.
Argent's trip took a little longer than he imagined and was glad he made the plane on time. Fortunately He was able to get an airship to bring him to vale rather than leaving a few months in advance to get there by horseback. Unfortunately Argent had never been to an airship terminal before and felt horribly out of place. The good news was he was able to find and make his flight in time, though some running... a lot of running may have been involved.

Catching his breath he walked over to one of the many windows, set his duffle down, took off his back pack, and loosened his vest to ease his sore quills that were being held against his back so he didn't turn his back pack into swiss cheese. The sight from the windows was something He still couldn't get over, The city below turning to the shimmering waters. Some where he could hear a news terminal mentioning something about recent events occurring in vale. He however didn't hon in on this, instead he could hear faint whispers amongst some student's talking about his quills and obvious faunus characteristics.

"Howdy! How ya..." He quickly trailed off after they turned away the second he opened his mouth. I figured an obvious faunus would be an eye sore'n sight round here, but at least ain't no body attempted to pick my pockets yet like my first day at Oscuro, he thought as he finished checking to make sure his scroll and cards were still in his possession.
Generally He didn't like to use his semblance for such things but his curiosity of those around him got the better. He slowly began to feel the air around him many were excited or nervous, presumably about being accepted to Beacon and starting the path of their future. There were however a few individuals who stood out, they held a stoic if almost depressing aura about them.

Feeling somewhat satisfied he leaned back to relax and to rest a bit more. He decided that it'd be best for others if a walking ball of spines wasn't in the middle of the crowd. But if the crowd came to him he wouldn't complain.

Geist GrauwolkeIt was clear that whatever weapon the DMR’s secondary form was, it was a polearm. There was no other concept she could think of. A spear, perhaps? A naginata? No, that sounded a little too Oriental. She settled for a spear. Nodding quietly to herself, she only just managed to notice another passenger of the ship approach her from the corner of her eyes.

Oh? No. I don’t.” Geist answered the girl curtly. How weird that she would ask such a question. She turned back to stare at the other girl’s weapon again. She hesitated, then turned her attention back to the girl that had spoken to her. “Right, I do suppose I looked kind of strange. But look over there.” She indicated the subject in question with a jerk of her head. “I was interested in her weapon. She’s carrying a semi-automatic marksman rifle. As most are want to do, she is most likely carrying a weapon with transforming capabilities. I was simply trying to guess what kind of weapon it was.” She paused, and gave the other girl a visual pat-down. She was shorter than Geist, a feat that was almost impossible to achieve, and had vibrant red hair, accentuated by the green baubles that hung on her hair. An odd choice of ornaments, but Geist didn’t comment on that. If there was something that Yurei taught her that stuck with her, it was that she shouldn’t comment on what they were wearing, or how they looked like. She wore a skirt, but the way she carried herself, Geist surmised that she was probably wearing a pair of spats or shorts underneath. That or she had no sense of personal shame. Her eyes drifted to the girl’s fingerless gloves.

Hmm.

Fingerless gloves meant that she was using a weapon that required more careful manipulation of the fingers. A gun, perhaps? Knives, maybe. A bow? Now, wouldn’t that be novel. She had never actually seen a bow in action, personally, which was weird. She pinned it as a fairly effective weapon that excelled from range. Not so much as a sniper rifle, and not as effective up close. That said, a transforming bow? Wouldn’t that be more novel? She was interested now. She blinked, then cleared her throat, having realised that she had been staring again. “I’m sorry. My name’s Geist. I’m interested in weaponry, and things like these are part...of...my interest?” she spoke haltingly, trying to find the right words. “In any case, I’ve noted that your gloves are of the fingerless kind. A weapon that takes skill with the fingers, I assume,” she summarised her findings. She paused, and studied her companion’s face, before realising that it must seem a little perturbing that she was basically trying to read her. Yurei didn’t mind, but she did comment that Geist ought to stop being so creepy. “It’s in my best interest to know the weapons and combat styles of those who I will be working with, please understand,” she explained.

Allium smiled wanly and went to shake his hand, but was using her left. Antenna twitching in embarrassment, she switched the handle of her little wagon to her left hand and shook Arséne‘s hand.

“It’s nice to- it’s nice to meet you as well, Arséne,” she said demurely.

He seemed nice enough. Or at least polite, which was always nice. Allium was out of conversation ideas, she knew this was a bad idea. She couldn’t see his weapon, so that meant it was something small. That was something she could talk about! Everyone here knew weapons, she’d be able to talk about that. Belatedly she let go of his hand.

“Sorry,” she mumbled.

Pulling herself back on track, she pointed to the folded halberd on her back and asked, “Want to, uh, see my weapon? I’m kind of curious about yours and it is only fair that I share as well and it’s name is Razor Petal and I know that isn’t very creative but I made it myself and I’m horrible at naming things and... I’m rambling, sorry.”

Allium looked down and scuffed her heal, “Sorry about that. I, uh, I can leave you alone now if you want...”

A pile of bags, backpacks, duffel bags and everything in-between shifted with each little jostle of the bullhead. Some could easily think that this was someone else's collection of goods and the owner was off somewhere else. But if they were to look closer, they would see the head of a boy hidden within the jumble of carrying devices. That face was set in stern concentration has he tried to keep a firm hold on everything, his bony spikes doing wonders in helping him (though they also in turn served as hangers for yet more things). His mother had wanted him to be nothing but comfortable during his stay at beacon, not caring to much about his journey there.

He didn't pay to much attention to those around him, only enough so as not to be to much in the way. Though with how everyone was moving around, he might as well just plant himself somewhere and tell them to go screw themselves and go around. Once or twice someone had bumped into him and nearly sent him careening onto the floor, which would have ended with the offending party having their skull split open by someone half their size. He didn't know if he was actually half their size, but he was willing to bet that he was. With all the neanderthalic giants that every country and creed seemed to be run by, odds were he would be the smaller of the two. But that hadn't stopped him before, and that sure has surprised some people.

Yuki Ming

Yuki listened as the brown haired girl explained herself, apparently she was interested in the red head's weapon. She had to admit, it was kind of fun to try and work out who's weapon could do what. There was this one boy in her class back in shade who was a transfer from Atlas, he had this giant great sword that was nearly as big and wide as he was. She thought that maybe it would split into two swords or something like that, but no, the thing transformed into a giant cannon that shot out beams of dust like a laser. She shuddered to imagine how much it must have costed to fire that thing even once, let alone multiple times on a mission. Speaking of weapons, this girl's looked oddly familiar for some reason but at the moment she couldn't quite place why.

Pushing that question to the back of her mind, she came back to the girl staring right at her face. It was slightly uncomfortable to be honest and Yuki shifted back slightly under the girls gaze. "Right, well it's.... nice to meet you Geist. I'm Yuki, Yuki Ming." She couldn't help but feel a bit of pride when Geist asked if her weapon required skilled fingers, and it took a conscious effort not to let it show on her face. "Yeah I guess you can say my weapon needs good finger skills. It's pretty much a requirement if you want to hit anything further than a few inches in front of you." Placing her bag on the ground she unzipped it and pulled out a staff that came up to just below her chest. "This is my weapon, Twilight Piercer. I usually keep it like this for travel, since it's other form can be a bit awkward to put in a bag." Pressing a small button around the grip the weapon contracted, getting smaller and bending back as a bowstring connected both ends of it. "This is what it normally looks like. Sure it may lack the firepower that a gun can bring, but I've never been good with things like that. The simpler the weapon, the less things that can go wrong with it."

After talking about her weapon so much the question from before popped back into her head. "So this has been bugging me for a bit, but I feel like I've seen your weapon before. Did you or someone else in your family attend Signal? It just seems so oddly familiar."

Allium attempted to shake his hand but mistakenly used her wrong hand. Arséne held back a small chuckle at the mistake and left his face blank. "No need to apologize, you didn't offend me in any way. And I'd love to see your weapon, but first..." He rolls up his sleeve and reveals a long intricate bracelet of a snake eating its own tail and wrapping itself all over Arséne's arm. Then with a quick flex of his arm, the tail separates from the mouth of the serpent to reveal the tail as a blade. As the blade falls to the floor a black dust follows and forms a black chain connecting the blade to the bracelet. Arséne looks at Allium smiling brightly, proud of his weapon. "I didn't make it myself, but I came up with the concept and design." He says happily. "And don't leave, I'd love to see your weapon. If your nervous then we can just stand here quietly against this wall. Silence can be a rare luxury after all."

Geist GrauwolkeGeist’s eyes visibly lit up when the girl took her own weapon out of its bag. A bow that could morph into a staff! That was interesting. Twilight Piercer, huh? So that was the name of this beauty. Geist scanned the bow, scrutinising its make, its string in particular. How much tensile strength did it pack to pierce through the hides of Grimm, she wondered. The modern structure of it also implied that it was strong enough not to break from the pull strength itself. Were there any other mechanisms in place to help with the draw? How fascinating.

Her study of the weapon was interrupted when Yuki spoke up again, asking her about her weapon.

Huh.” Similar? PossiblyThe AT-434 wasn’t a one of a kind weapon. The matter of fact was, it was designed to be as generic and usable by anyone and everyone- a training weapon for aspiring Huntsmen. Geist wouldn’t be surprised if the girl was just remembering a weapon that borrowed the same design notes as the 434. Arius Tech went bankrupt the year after the 434 was released, having been unable to make up for their piling losses, and there had been no subsequent remodels or future plans for the AT line. That said, she wouldn’t discount the fact that someone had the idea to pick up a mass-produced beginner’s weapon as their own weapon of choice. It wasn’t the best weapon around, but it did its job just nicely.

No one I know has attended Signal, but I can guess where you might have seen it.” Geist patted the side of the blade of the weapon. “It’s a mass-produced weapon, designed to be used by anybody who wanted to be a Huntsman. At least, that was the intent of its design. It never got much traction, but I think some people still picked it up. If you’re from Signal, there was probably someone who had to buy one for whatever reason.” She, personally, could think of a few excuses or reasons. There was also a possibility that Yuki might have seen AZ in action before, though that was highly impossible. Geist didn’t want to entertain that train of thought.

Allium was glad that Arséne was easy going.

She couldn’t help but clap in excitement as she watched the blades swing. It was an ingenious design. It clearly uses some sort of dust for the chain, but it was one she was unfamiliar with.

“What sort of dust is that?” She blurted out. “Uh, if you don’t mind.”

She carefully took the folded weapon from her back and straightened it out, resting the end on the floor.

“This is Razor Petal. I usually have it as a halberd like this, but sometimes I want to be even farther away from my opponent,” with a flick and twist that was not necessary but looked cool, Allium’s weapon shifted into a sniper rifle.

“Isn’t it so cool!?” She exclaimed in excitement.

Then things caught up to her and she blushed in embarrassment, “Uh, sorry- sorry. I get a bit excited about my weapon.”

Allium took a deep breath, “I think I would like to hangout with you for a bit. We can be quiet if you like.”

She returned her weapon to a halberd and folded it back onto her back. Allium carefully maneuvered her wagon of bees to be parallel to the wall and stood next to Arséne. There was a buzzing from one of the two wooden boxes on the wagon and she gently patted the box while humming.

“It’s alright Columbine,” she murmured reassuringly.

With a hand pressing up on the glass panel the dark-haired young man looked as Vale disappeared below them. It was Aurelian's first time on an airship, let alone in a big city like Vale, and to watch the bustling streets disappear as they traveled through the clouds was a sight to behold. When the TV buzzed on Aurelian turned his attention to it and the dust robbery, to be honest dust was a scant resource in his village, only the local Huntsman seemed to make any use of it. He wasn't really sure if robberies like this were common or not in the Capital, so he didn't pay much attention to it. Glancing back Aurelian took a gander around the airship at his soon-to-be classmates, especially towards their weapons which were much more complex than his simple rifle and sword. Said rifle was slung around his shoulder per usual with his sword attached to his hip. Around Aurelians other shoulder was a well-worn backpack filled with some things from home, nothing too big he's made the habit of packing lightly when going on trips.

Out of the corner of his eye, Aurelian noticed a heap moving through the vessel. He watched as the mass of bags slowly made their way forward, he didn't notice the small Faunus dragging them along. Seeing as no one was helping him deciding to stare at the poor guy Aurelian left his spot near the window and make his way over towards the Faunus. Moving around the heap to the front Aurelian gave a wave to the guy accompanied by a friendly smile, "Need a hand?".

Gran had barely managed to get onto the plane before it took off. If not for being able to hop barriers and dodge airport security with relative ease he'd probably have missed the plane entirely and had to find other transport. Sometimes Gran thought that if his alarm clock worked properly, he could solve a lot more problems way easier. His left eyelid twitched as that thought crossed his mind. Half of his semblance liked that idea. Gran didn't really like pulling out his semblance for something that minor, though, especially with the half of it that would apply to that situation. Best to save the big guns for things that actually required it.

Gran could probably fix an alarm clock himself if he'd pick up a screwdriver and get to work, but that took some fun out of stuff. It wouldn't be right if he didn't spent every morning scrambling out the door with his shirt around his legs and pants on his head, and somehow getting properly dressed by the time he got to the end of the driveway, save for shoelaces he could tie on the bus. Life was boring without some crazy shenanigans going on to make it interesting. It couldn't all be grim and killing Grimm, now could it?

He wasn't superhuman, though, he did have to catch his breath once the plane took off and was in the sky. By the time he looked back up, groups had split off and gone their separate ways to chat. Well, that left Gran to his own devices to try and find something to do on this flight. Couldn't be too hard, could it?

Five minutes and a lot of walking, and no there was not stuff up his alley to do on this flight. Well that wasn't very fun, now he'd have to find somewhere to sit and wait to arrive, and hope there was something to do there. He found a spot by a window near another faunus, this one looked he was a porcupine, or maybe hedgehog. How did that guy put a shirt on? He seemed to be enjoying himself, anyway. That was the kind of crowd Gran wanted to surround himself with, for sure. "Are those heavy?", he gestured to Arget's quills. Gran only had a tail for his faunus trait, and that didn't weigh anymore than scrawny arm, and it was overtly useful in ways, so it had never bothered him. He couldn't imagine walking around with a bunch of spiked sticking a foot out of his back.

The plane had begun to land, leading the students infront of Beacon Academy. The plane landed down infront of the landing zone where Merlin and Regulus were waiting for them. Upon landing the plane door had opened allowing the students to take their first steps onto Beacon. Merlin waited for everyone to get off the plane before speaking up addressing everyone.

"Hello everyone. I am Merlin Morningstar I am the headmaster of Beacon Academy. I welcome you all to Beacon. You are here to become Huntsmen and Huntresses. That much is obvious. The road you have taken is a long and hard one. It is up to you to journey on this road to completion. Protecting the innocent and defending the world from Grimm is an honor exclusive to huntsmen. I hope you can uphold that responsibility during your time at Beacon." She finished.

"You will all gather by the emerald forest in an hour. This will be your initiation. I'm sure you all know that each team comprises of four individuals. That will be decided today based on your initiation."
Merlin nodded at the group before moving on. She began to walk towards Beacon, leaving Regulus behind.

The students had gathered by the forest. Standing on platforms on a ridge overlooking the forest. Merlin, Regulus and Musashi were present as the students were here to be prepped during the initiation. It was sunny, past noon now and the huge forest full of trees could be seen from the ridge. It was a clear sky today with little clouds.

"In a short while you are all going to be launched into the forest. You will be using your own landing strategy. You will be heading towards a maze centered in the forest. You will encounter many Grimm along the way. Beowolves, Ursa, Deathstalkers even. Once you arrive at the Maze, you will look for a dust shard scattered across the maze. There are three of them guarded by a Nevermore, a King Taijitu and a Manticore. You and three others will each attempt to obtain one of the three shards. Are there any questions?" Merlin said.

Fang Hua Lian
Location: Airship towards Beacon
With?: Nobody?

A yawn reached it's way past Fang Hua's lips, how long was this blasted airship ride going to be? It took what felt like forever for the woman to reach just Vale from Mistral, there was such little time for her to decompress, so much moving, so much stress. Such were the consequences for moving to another kingdom to study at a different academy. While it was refreshing to meet people from a different walk of life, it did mean there'd be stress, and exhaustion. But, that wouldn't damper Fang Hua's mood one bit, she was excited, ready to do everything to achieve her dream, come hell or high water she was going to succeed, she had to.

Feeling the airship rise, Fang Hua looked out to the people within, surrounded by the luggage they brought, some brought the bare essentials, others, packed what appeared to be their home within their multiple bags, but what was most interesting, were the weapons everyone carried. Some had massive weapons that looked at times to be unwieldy, others, had things that made Fang Hua question if what they carried even was a weapon, as she looked around, it helped Fang Hua pass the time where she could, as seats were not installed within the airship for whatever reason, which bothered her a bit... Why not have some sort of seat for the trip up the sheer cliff to the academy?

But that thought was pushed aside, as the Television screen flicked to life, attracting the attention of most everyone. A woman appeared upon the screen, unidentifiable as far as Fang Hua was concerned. As her amber eyes reached the screen, the woman had already begun speaking, her words were swiftly delivered, there had been robberies of Dust Shops in Vale, and the police were hoping to get some information from the civilians of the matter. It baffled Fang Hua, of all the things someone would want to steal, why Dust? It didn't make sense as to the motive, what was the dust to be used for? Pondering this for some time, Fang Hua debated the reasons, and the options of what someone could do...

Yet, that thought was interrupted, as the Airship began to land, Fang Hua wanted out of this tin can fast. Reaching the landing, two figures greeted her and the other students, glancing at the two, one introduced herself as Merlin Morningstar, speaking of what they had come here to do... And then of the initiation, entering a forest with Grimm within, 'You mean we get off a tin can, into a fight immediately?' Fang Hua thought, watching Merlin walk away like nothing had been said. A sigh left Fang Hua's lips again, as she stretched for a moment. An hour. That's all she had to prepare for this, and after all the standing and waiting, she needed time to stretch at least somewhat, to keep her muscles from shredding themselves. Yet, her eyes cast back over on the other students, each had their strength and weakness, and without knowing them, she was to be teamed up with them...

As the time passed, Fang Hua gathered with the other students at the platforms above the Emerald Forest, keeping herself limber, Fang spent the time Merlin spoke stretching once again, this time, though, having a much more through routine, she wasn't going in without doing this. As she made sure she was ready, her head shot up as she heard about a landing strategy... That's when it hit her, looking out into the forest, Fang Hua then noticed, that was quite the drop, landing poorly would end in death, or at least crippling injury to say the least. Then a maze, to collect dust shards guarded by the Grimm within, easy, though the asking for questions was permitted, as such, a gloved hand slowly reached to the sky, followed by Fang Hua's voice,

"You said we're forming teams, right? How are we doing that by chance? As, I don't think you want us battling these Grimm as a group of twelve..."

Isern didn't see the other boy walking around to his front, but to be frank Isern's peripheral vision was currently nonexistent, and so was slightly startled by the sudden appearance of a face taking up his vision. Giving a disgusted grunt at their upbeat attitude and lack of things to carry, he promptly responds to the offer of help. "Yeah, get out of my way." He would have tilted his head back to look down his nose at the guy were a couple bags not slung not already slung over his horns and preventing his head from tilting forwards or back to much. The one good thing about carrying so many things, he was well insulated in case of a crash landing.

Feeling the bullhead land, Isern proves that he doesn't need any help by waddling out and down the ramp. The decent down the ramp was the tricky part, as he ran and hopped down the ramp to prevent himself from flat out rolling down it. And needless to say, when they were told to drop everything because they were going to be launched down another cliff and to not bother with their things, Isern was both relieved about not having to carry everything anymore and annoyed that he had to carry it up here in the first place.

Having shed his cocoon of luggage, he began to think of a landing strategy that they apparently needed. Well, if he was just going to get thrown off a cliff to slam into the ground, that was free kinetic energy right there. Energy he could nullify and store with Dragon's Greed. And seeing as he couldn't exactly latch onto a tree with his axe, it being more likely ripped from his hands than stopping him, he figured that was as good an option as any. Or he could find that guy that had thought he needed help, use him as a cushion.

Arséne Arcueid
Location:
Plane and Cliffedge
Interaction: Allium Clematis Endless_Stars Endless_Stars

Arséne took a step forward and moved his head closer to the weapon. His eyes traced the Halberd, inspecting it closely from end to end. A few seconds passed before he moved back and nodded. "You say you made this yourself?" he asks "It's well made and yes it is quite cool as you would describe, I also like the name, it's quite fitting." He smiles and open his mouth to say something again but suddenly the plane lands and an announcement rings out for all to hear. Arséne listens attentively and when it ends he turns to Allium and gives a small polite bow "It was pleasure talking to you, I have a quick stop to make but I'll see you at the initiation." He briskly steps off the plane and makes his way towards the nearest bathroom.

An hour later he'll step onto one of the platforms and wait patiently for the initiation to begin. He looks out into the forest noticing the their altitude and prepares himself for a landing. While unhooking his weapons and hears the question being asked. "I concur with her question!" He shouts as he also wondered how the situation would play out.

Geist“Seems like we’ve arrived.” With a smooth, practiced motion, she drew her coat off her case. In a swirl of black, she slipped her arms into its sleeves, and swept up her halberd without breaking her momentum once. She picked up her suitcase and offered Yuki Ming a short bow. “We’ll meet again, maybe sooner than expected. I do hope it will be in the field of battle, though. I’d like to see how that bow of yours works.” With those words, she melted away into the crowd, and, like her namesake, vanished, blending in with the other bobbing heads in sea of people. One hour to prepare. That was more than enough. That was at least forty-five minutes more than enough time to suit up and get ready.

An hour passed. Geist appeared, detaching herself from a small group of other prospective students, and suddenly becoming her own person. She listened in on the headmaster’s recent lecture, and of their mission in the forest below them.

Encounter. That was how the headmaster described their task. She exhaled sharply. No one here could ever possibly know how those words affected her on a personal level Oh, how she missed this feeling. Simply the idea of battle sent adrenaline coursing through her veins. She peered over the edge, studying the viridian sea beneath her. They were a pretty high altitude from the landing area, but this was nothing. She had taken jumps from higher vantage points, and from a moving transport. This was pretty entry-level stuff. She glanced around her at the other students. Some had worried looks on their faces, and, worst still, some looked as if they were about to throw up at the idea of being flung into the forest. Geist raised her hood, and gripped onto her halberd tightly. If they weren’t prepared for this, then it would be better for them to return to their schools. Those who were cowed by this prospects should turn and leave now. There was no point in helping those who could not even help themselves in the first place. Some of the students spoke up, asking their questions. Geist shot a glance at them, then exhaled sharply, this time in amusement. She made her way over to one of the platforms, twirling her polearm lazily.

So much uncertainty of their futures, so many questions. Geist wasn’t keen on thinking about all of these trivial questions. To her, it was simple. Come what may, hell, high water, or Grimm, she would do as she was told. The whole team thing was wholly unimportant, especially since she was going to be joined by so many other fresh faces still wet behind their ears. It was all up to fortune now.
