Vinn
Vinn looked at the meal and took a ham steak. Not daring to utter a word. His father had embarrassed him enough already...and he wasn't sure how Zelia felt about him now that she knew he hadn't talked to his family in three years, even though hshe DID just say he was cute. He felt her looking at him and he looked back, smiled, then took a huge bite from the steak. Bjor was the first to start talking again. "So...we got a lot of work today. We need to bring the cows out to pasture..then we gotta start harvesting the corn.." He said, trying to break the awkward tension. Chad nodded, as he took the last bites of his meal, already finished. He looked at Vinn and Zelia. "You two are gonna be busting your asses if you want to stay here. So i'm going to expect you both out there doing farm work by 9:00 sharp." He said, getting up. "I'm going to change into work clothes. Bjor, start putting those cows out to pasture." He said, walking back to his room. Bjor nodded, despite his father not even in the room, and he left the house quickly. Within moments, Chad was out of his room and in overalls, and he left the house without a word, getting outside to start his daily routine. Vinn continued eating silently. He was still thoroughly ashamed from his father's words. But suddenly, gentle footsteps could be heard coming from his father's room. Vinn turned and looked. It was his Mother; Lyda Arvo. Even though she was over fifty, her features were still quite young. She had a gentle, beautiful, wrinkle free face, and her hair didn't have a single sign of graying. She wore a light pink nightgown at the moment. She entered the kitchen quietly, huddling and shivering, her face pale and her body quite thin from her illness that ravaged her. "Vinn?" She asked, in a weak voice. Vinn got up and embraced his mother, who smiled at the sight of her son. Then, her smile faded and she began sobbing. "You little prick....you said you'd write..." She said as sternly as she could in his arms. "I'm sorry Mom...I got preoccupied...." He said. His mother kissed his cheek and took pried herself from his embrace. "That's not an excuse...I hope your Father lectured you good...about time he started doing that..." She said, then looked at Zelia. "Who's this young woman?" She asked Vinn, slowly walking over to the table and squinting her eyes.

Zelia
When Vinn caught Zelia staring she turned away and looked at Chad as he said they needed to tend to the farm. "You two are gonna be busting your asses if you want to stay here. So i'm going to expect you both out there doing farm work by 9:00 sharp." "Oh!" Zelia said, "I can tend to the cow if you want. I had some back at my home and they really liked me! I'd love to help with that!" Zelia went to stand until a woman entered the room. Holy cow! She's absolutely gorgeous! "Vinn?" she said in a weak voice. Zelia watched as the two embraced for the first time in three years. Zelia felt as though all of the tension in the room disappeared. Zelia laughed slightly when Lyda called Vinn a prick. "My name is Zelia Havren! I am a friend of Vinn's! Sorry I don't have time to chat, I said I would help Bjor with the cows. See you later!" Zelia ran out the door to catch up with Bjor and when she found him she stopped and said, "Okay, so what do we need to do?"
