So, even though I use the word zombie, we are not dealing with undead. Or rather, we're not dealing with people rising from the grave. Once someone is dead, they're pretty solidly dead. There's no healing magic in this setting and by extension, there's no extreme healing, aka necromancy. The dead stay dead. What are the rules for these ones? Like, can they spread an infection? Are they dried out? Are they smart or fast zombies?
What we ARE dealing with though, is sort of a... supernaturally flavored bubonic plague. It begins with the monsters that live in the Abyss, which is a giant canyon in what used to be the western seafloor (the sea fell into the Abyss). No one knows for sure what these monsters look like, because no one has lived to tell the tale. But the monsters leave behind a trail of toxic muck. This muck poisons plants and infects animals, and that's how it spreads. Were that everything, it wouldn't be too big of a deal - enough distance, and whatever, you're safe.
Then there's the part about the infection nibbling away at your life force and even taking away your magic, but that's not important right now. Just worry about the rotting, oozing body parts.
Mana smells yummy to them. Also to add to the mix, what senses of theirs function? Are any heightened?
why isn't one sheep a shoop?
