As the fall season came to a close, the winter season started with a rough beginning. Clouds moved along the sky white speckles falling from them, pilling on the ground and nearby mountains in a soft cold blanket of white snow. cold crisp gusts of wind blew throughout the land whilst plants died of frostbite. The sun peaked over the horizon. Orange, yellow and pink hues softening into light blue. IMG_1492.png The snowstorm came to a brief close. The clouds disappeared and the sprinkles of snow disappeared. The sun beamed over the area doing little to ease the cold air that prickled the living, a small village near the mountains buzzed with some amounts of activity. The small, yet active village of Myatheville was one of the first villages to begin preparations for the incoming event bound to lead the Rotian population to millions of deaths as the threat of the freeze looked overhead. Rotia had roughly two weeks time to prepare for the on slot of numerous more monster attacks. In one of the houses scattered around the village. On a cot on the floor a blonde haired woman laid down. Being able to awaken, a nearby fire place glowed with warmth as its orange and yellow lights filtered the room, a masked woman turned her head to Aedrianna.

“About time you woke up, that group of foreigners found you. You are lucky you didn’t need end up scumming to frostbite or hypothermia.”

IMG_1494.png Elsewhere in the village, just outside the cathedral, it was on a smaller scale. Remained the tallest and largest building in Myathevale. a small metal fuller sat outside in front of the left side of the stone building. people brought forth crates full of supplies to it, back and forth from it. The preperation of a long journey from the small. Once they were done gathering up the items they need in addition to any extra or emergency fuel. IMG_1493.png
A wolf-beast that was helping organize the mission at hand was talking to one of its members, a winged construct about the goal of the small village.

“Get the cargo to Hornbach. They are expecting the supplies and aid, get a head the rest of Myathevale will follow behind in suite once we get everyone and the horses prepared. Is your group prepared to make the trip?”

Griffin responded to the question. “Should be, waiting for a few more people to join in the supplies escort. How’s she doing by the way Nicholas?”

Nicholas told him, “according to Jane your friend has warmed up, no longer experiencing the symptoms of frostbite.”

Griffin nodded. “Alright, I am liable to check on her before I head out with the group. Still have no idea how she made it to Rotia. Last we wrote to each other she was attending a fair in Ryke.” IMG_1371.png

Kōmori rubbed her hands together to create some warmth from the friction as she cupped them, brought them to her mouth, and exhaled before rubbing them together again. The trip up here had been uneventful, to say the least, well, besides finding the woman in the snow that the group leader seemed to know. However, that left several questions in her mind about who she was and why they seemed so shocked to find them here. She pushed many of the thoughts to the back of her mind; she pushed herself off the cathedral wall as she watched the hauler being loaded with supplies and some of them being removed. To which she cocked her head a little and then walked over to where the group leader and the wolf man were talking.
The nodachi on her back swayed slightly as she walked, as her white hair blew in the wind as some of the snow was kicked up. "Bossman, I thought the hauler was going to be traveling with the main group that was going. Though what makes Hornbach a better place to go?" Kōmori inquired as she pointed back over to the hauler for a moment. She had never been to this side of the continent before, let alone in the Kingdom of Rotia, which she knew very little about. Afterall, she tended to stay on the eastern half of the continent. She felt as her boots made crunching sounds in the snow and sunk in a little as she walked.

"On top of that what are we expecting in terms of resistance, bandits? Monsters? Bandits and monsters? Random rabid werewolves?" Kōmori asked as she stopped about a foot away from Griffin and the wolf man. Though these were questions that needed to be answered, though she didn't particularly care what they ran into so long as no one got in her way of cutting the thing down. She wasn't adverse to having some collateral damage should someone get in her way in the middle of an attack. But for the moment that was neither here nor there and she had the movement to be ready for anyway. "Plus who is that girl that we found on the way up here anyway?" She added another question to the pile.

Curse this wretched cold.

Stomping through the thick snow and slush, Baharius trudged hardily through the rough environment with purposeful intent. Despite being warm-blood (contrary to what others may thing) the saurian usually had little interest or intent to go further up north into the chilly north. He preferred hotter and wetter climates, which spinosaurians like himself typically preferred to live. Even so, his thick blubber-like hide was enough to keep his inner-body from completely freezing over... accompanied with a large cloak that he threw on himself to shield himself. If anything, his tall sail would do best to absorb any sort of sunlight it could to make himself all the bit warmer. Nevertheless it would finally a relief to make it to a civilized village, one alive and hard at work.

However, he wasn't alone on this trek. He was recruited into this situation by a vaguely familiar face... one he hadn't seen since booking a trip to a certain uninhabited island. Having merely ran into Griffith as he was on his way back from a minor quest in the Continental Lake, Baharius was told that he was on their way to see operations up in Rotia. He was going to help with their preparations the "Big Freeze", an annual event where the ocean freezes between the second and main continent every winter forming what was essentially a temporary land bridge. Unfortunately, this allowed monsters from the second continent to migrate here, resulting in major casualties for the Rotians... who acted as the last bastion standing between them and being overrun. They currently had two weeks to prepare.

Should they fall... the whole continent may follow. At the very least many more deaths were to follow. And while Rotia withheld for many winters, any and all help's more than appreciated to limit these deaths.

With no other mission currently at his helm, coupled with wanting a change of scenery, Baharius would accept the offer to help and proceeded to accompany him there. Perhaps in a sense, Baharius was itching to finally lead a proper force rather then be ordered around for a change. Something he hadn't properly done since his time at the previous world...

Though while the trip there was relatively uneventful, they did come across the body of a woman face down in the snow. Baharius also recognized her. The name escaped him, but he remembered her present at that one test in the city of Azuran. She looked... well, pretty rough all things considered. Something seemed different about her too, though he couldn't pinpoint what exactly. Still she was certainly lucky they found her. The saurian offered to carry her to the village to be treated for her condition, dropping her off in one of the small houses next to a warm fireplace. Baharius wanted to stay and comfort Aedri, as well as warm himself up by the fire, but duty called and thus he went.

Ensuring the villagers were doing their jobs, as well as keeping an eye out for any hostiles lurking in the forests, the saurian found himself close to where Griffin, Kōmori and a wolf-beast leader were conversing with one another. Hearing the oni ask who the girl was, Baharius couldn't help but speak up.

"I've seen her before." Baharius stated, "We were in a... test of sorts in Azuran some months back. I remember she took quite a beating during the process... but miraculously, she was able to pass. Wonder what she's doing way out here... I don't think it's for the same reason we're here."

As the others gathered themselves, things were slowly fading into focus for the young blonde girl laying on a cot. She pushed herself up with a faint grunt, dull blue eyes blinking in the glowing light of the fireplace. For a long moment she was quiet, only looking around the small room in mild confusion. It took perhaps a bit too long for her to realize that she'd been spoken to. Her attention drifted from the fire to gaze at the woman. Thin blonde brows furrowed together as she studied the other body in the room. However, no words came from her lips. Just a curt nod, with a soft but obviously forced smile.

Instead, the young blonde seemed to be more interested in studying her surroundings. The same confused expression marring her expression. After a moment of observing her surroundings, her dull blue eyes drifted down to her hands. The reaction was abrupt, confusion melting into consternation. Pale delicate hands lifted up to eye level, twisting around in slow motion as she inspected them. As if she didn't recognize the back of her own hand. Then a few blonde strands of hair fell forward, over her shoulder.

She reached up to the strands, slowly taking them in her hands and observing a few extra colorful locks of hair.

"What happened to my hair?!" Her voice came out somewhat broken at first. But as soon as the words fell from her lips, she clasped a hand to her throat and lips. Utter shock and disbelief clear on her face, and for a second she was absolutely still. Staring into the distance as if trying to remember something. When she finally moved again, it was to look at the woman who had spoken to her. Carefully, almost reverently; she spoke to the woman. "I am so sorry to be rude... May I ask where I am?"

V-CXI

After his messy interaction with the Bug Hive in the east, V figured he wasn't going to find much for his own objective. As kind as Alexas was to an "Irregular". He had lost his savior, who tried running away from battle, but he found later... after the bugs did. Unsavory memories aside, the rook decided to travel north. No point looking for his old residence. There was no longer anything there.

A few train, cart, and on-foot travels later, he found himself in Rotia. Cold place, rough, filled with seasonal dangers seen nowhere else. It might be possible to find a proper instructor here. Maybe even a skilled mechanic. But after tagging along with a group, what he found was a woman that miraculously lived through passing out in such cold temperatures.

By the looks of it, the rest of the group was more focused on aiding with some sort of mission. It seemed like the process of hiring heads for a cause was way simpler these days. They left to chat with the head of the operation, while V stayed in the house, looking over the girl. "⠎⠕ ⠽⠕⠥ ⠁⠉⠞⠥⠁⠇⠇⠽ ⠇⠊⠧⠑⠙" The mass of metal leaned forward, with his glitchy audio leading his eye pattern yet again "⠁⠍⠁⠵⠊⠝⠛ ⠺⠕⠗⠅ ⠙⠕⠉⠞⠕⠗" his face turned to the floor "⠊ ⠗⠑⠁⠇⠇⠽ ⠝⠑⠑⠙ ⠁ ⠍⠑⠉⠓⠁⠝⠊⠉" It was somewhat understandable that what he just said brought his mood down.

Upon witnessing the confusion on Adrianna. Jane sat next to her on the cot,

“Calm down and relax.” Jane answered before mumbling a small incantation. A gentle small ball of light hovered over her finger which she used to test pupil dilation.

“Hmmm…seems fine there. Mind following my finger with your eyes? I am checking in the case you procured a concussion.”

She proceeded to perform a brief analysis before the the light on her finger flickered out. Jane opted to use a weaker level healing spell.

“There, that should take care of any additional injuries you could have had. What’s the last thing you remember?”IMG_1494.png
She inquired, then answered Aedrianna’s question.

“I do not. You are in a small village called Myatheville. Located in the eastern corner of the country of Rotia. What happened to your hair…I think you did that? One of the foreigners who claimed to be a friend yours mentioned something about hair dye. However if you wanted to remove the dye I fear we lack the means to do that. Most of the village is packed up and preparing to migrate to the capital for a better chance at surviving this years freeze.”

Jane turned to the construct in the room. Trying to decipher what he was saying yet failed to comprehend the noises V-CXI made. She stood up and grabbed a pile of parchment from the table, removing the pieces that was scribbled with medical diagnoses, then handed the empty parchment a pen and ink to V-CXI.

“I am sorry, I do not understand. Perhaps you can write down what you mean instead? The ink is made to handle the winter temperatures. Just make sure to keep it shaken up.” IMG_1557.png Develius Develius saxon saxon

Nicholas turned to Kōmori, answering her question.

“Hornbach is our capital and one of the cities better defended against the freeze, it is also the center of Rotia’s defenses. They have many new recruits that need training. That is where our supplies of rations and weapons will be going. As well as fine-tuning the defenses ahead of time with the invasion in mind. You, Griffin, Baharius, The other construct, and the students will be heading there out of priority. Myatheville will follow suit this isn’t the first time this village has migrated to the capital for the winter. It is practically an annual routine. Hornbach is where our firepower is. As for what we are expecting, Medium to high-level monsters. Criminals who have been caught are put in the army automatically to fight against the invasion. Bandits we are less likely to run into on the way. I guess while the chances are slim they aren’t impossible I recommend if you do bump into criminals try not to kill them they can be used as fodder.”
IMG_1371.png
Griffin was the one to answer her question involving Aedrianna. “That was Aedrianna, a friend of mine from awhile back she helped eliminate one of those bug nests that was found between Ryke and The Otezian Empire. I don’t know why she was in Rotia, as she was visiting Ryke during a festival. And presumably went back to the republic.”

After Baharius spoke. Griffin mentioned “familiarity tends to make some jobs easier. I’m going to go check on her, you guys can either sit inside the fuller with the rest of group or follow me. I am going to make sure she is okay before we head off as well as bring…I should figure out a nickname for him until we can find a way for him to speak, but our other construct companion. I trust she’ll be safe traveling with the Myatheville citizens?”

He asked turning to Nicholas. “I’ll need to see if we have enough horses. If not she may end up with your group.”

Griffin nodded. “Alright, got it. Thanks for the information sir.”

Griffin left. Making the small trip to the nearby houses. Knocking before entering the house.

“Hope I am not intruding?” He asked. The turned to Aedrianna.

“How are you feeling? It’s been a bit, what are you doing in Rotia anyway? I was worried sick when I found you! I thought you were somewhere in Ryke or Nan gau! But you were in Rotia slowly freezing to death?—“

He sighed. “I should wait to lecture you really. Now is probably not the best of times for it. I’m glad you seem to be doing alright Aedrianna, at least according to Jane’s diagnosis.”

The girl’s dull blue eyes blinked owlishly, her gaze following the glowing orb hovering at the woman’s fingertip. The faint light cast dancing shadows on the walls of the small room, painting it with an almost dreamlike quality. Her lips parted slightly, a glimmer of wonder breaking through her otherwise confused demeanor. When the light flickered out, she seemed to wilt, disappointment pulling at her delicate features.

“Your finger… glowed?” she whispered, her voice soft and careful, as if testing each word for stability. Surprise flashed across her face with every syllable. “That’s… magic?” The question hung in the air, her brows furrowing as a fleeting wince crossed her face. She shook her head slowly, as though trying to dislodge a thought that didn’t belong. Her fingers absently twisted a lock of her blonde and colorful hair, her expression a mix of bemusement and denial. “No… no, I assure you, I would never bleach my hair,” she added with a nervous laugh, though it faded quickly, leaving an unsettling silence in its wake.

The quiet was broken by the strange, stuttering noises from the armored figure in the corner. The girl turned her wide eyes toward it, staring with the same owlish intensity, her confusion deepening. “Y-your… robot is broken,” she murmured, her tone half a question, half a statement. The words trembled on her lips as though she feared the machine might respond.

The door creaked open then, the sound scraping through the tense quiet of the room. When Griffin stepped inside, the girls eyes went straight to his tawny wings and lion paws. Fully fixated on them, her expression one of awe and unspoken curiosity.

When he spoke her name—Aedrianna—her reaction was immediate. A sharp wince contorted her face, her hand flying to her head as if warding off an invisible blow. She squeezed her eyes shut, her breaths shallow and uneven. For a moment, the only sounds were the crackling of the fire and the soft hum of wind beyond the walls. Slowly, hesitantly, she opened her eyes again. Her gaze settled on Griffin, studying his face with an intensity that bordered on desperation.

Then, with visible hesitation, she stretched out a trembling hand toward him. The gesture was tentative, almost fragile, as if she feared it might shatter the fragile moment. “My name is Nozomi Hikari,” she said, her voice steady but tinged with uncertainty. “I’m sorry… you look familiar for some reason, but I can’t place your name.”

Her brow furrowed slightly as she continued, her words slower, more deliberate. “I don’t think I understand half of what you’re saying. Ryke? Frozen? I…” Her voice faltered, and she took a shaky breath. “I was in the hospital… dying of throat cancer. I thought… I thought I’d never sing again. But now… now I’m here?” She shook her head, her confusion deepening as her gaze flicked around the room, searching for answers in the flickering shadows.

Despite the turmoil in her expression, a warm, hopeful smile graced her lips as her eyes returned to Griffin. “You found me? I suppose I owe you my gratitude, then… friend?” Her voice softened on the last word, her tone carrying both uncertainty and a faint glimmer of trust.

Ahhh, that was her name. Aedrianna. Nearly on the tip of his tongue, frankly. Or at least that's what Baharius believed. Though as Griffin mentioned the bug nests and her involvement, Baharius' expression froze suddenly as memories of his involvement flooded back to him. "She was present during the offensive?" the saurian replied, his tone showcasing a significant amount of concern. The tone of someone who was actually present in it. The saurian lowered his head as he found himself deep in thought, before plunging his massive sword into the snow. "I was also there..." he started off, explaining his experiences in a low tone. "As part of Rico's Raid. "Rico's Roughnecks" as we were so charmingly called. She wasn't with us though. We were tasked to... push forth into the cavern depths to ensure the other teams had a clear shot towards the core. It was a brutal endeavor - a suicide mission by all accounts. Though whatever gods were watching over us, our team had only suffered minimal casualties... one casualty out of us six. Admittedly we didn't expect such luck to be in our favor."

There was a pause as Baharius rose his head to stare out at the village below. "The same couldn't be said for the others. I don't know all the details nor who else had perished... as I've left out shortly after being compensated... but I've overheard several teams being nearly if not completely wiped out. Even heard of a supply line being ransacked by a... squabble of some sort." He harkened back to memories about the chaotic aftermath of the offensive, trying to recall what he heard from the spare conversations within the chaos. Some notable sentences revealed themselves being expressed by eastern soldiers, fae generals, and all in between. He didn't remember hearing any mention of Aedri, though he wouldn't doubt Griffin's claim of her being present. The saurian sighed as he turned towards Griffin and the group. "If Aedrianna was involved in any of the other conflicts..." he continued, "She's lucky to have made it out alive."

Baharius rose a hand as Griffin offered for him to visit Aedrianna. "Thank you, but go on ahead without me." he politely declined, "I'll let her rest easy for now. Will talk to her later."

Now alone with Kōmori and Nicholas, the spined saurian heard the former ask about their current objectives. Their task, according to Nicholas, was to escort supplies and weapons to the capital Hornbach to prepare for the big freeze. Medium to high-level monsters and criminals are to be expected, though he was told that the latter are to be spared and used as fodder. A grim fate for the convicted, especially how it was phrased, but given the rough circumstances they were in now any man willing to pick up weapons were better than none. At least they would have a one-way ticket to fighting for a just cause... a final redemption before meeting the gods above or hells below.

"I'd be willing to help training the new recruits once we get to the capital." Baharius offered generously towards their employer with a nod, "If they're in need of any that is. Needless to say, we'll get everyone there in one piece. You can count on us."

Kōmori listened as Nicholas as he answered her question; she gently bit her lower lip for a second as she processed the information. "So I take it then the Kingdom does not have the manpower in order to stop the creatures from crossing the bridge let alone defend its villages." She paused momentarily and looked back at the fuller as it was still loaded with the requested materials. "If they have the firepower to hold the invasion off, why not stop them at the crossing then?" She inquired on the matter further. To her, it seemed like the best course of action would have been to build defenses at the crossing based on her knowledge of warfare (Warfare F). She simply shrugged her shoulders at the mention of the criminals being used as fodder. "If they swing at me, I make no promises," She replied nonchalantly. She didn't care if it was a roadblock but sliced through it. She didn't care about capturing criminals, but she wouldn't hold back if they wanted a fight.

As Baharius spoke but didn't add too much as to who exactly the woman was other than he recognized the woman. But the information that was given to her by the large lizard man didn't help her come to any conclusions. So she simply just filed it away further back into her mind until she could use the information in some relevant way on the matter at hand. If it could be used at a later time.

Asbossman explained who the blonde individual was, Kōmori simply nodded her head, taking it at face value. So long as the individual in question wasn't going to stab them all in the back, she was fine with letting it rest. "So a friend of yours that went missing.......interesting and not suspicious at all." She concluded on the matter before drawing her nodachi and driving the tip of the two-handed blade into the snow. She started to inspect the blade for a few moments as Griffin had decided to go check up on Adrianna.

She drew her sword from the snow and returned it to its place as she moved back toward the fuller and waited for the others to be ready to start the trek to the capital city.
