Dice Rifts Adventure - OOC

You can either be an established group or a bunch of individual people in need of money and when you hear about the job, it is the opportunity to get out of debt.

We have at least one Atlantean in our group and we are low level. Do you want for us to have had experience fighting vampires and gargoyles before or should we treat them as something brand new? Or something in-between?

(Don't mind all of my questions - I'm just curious.)

Think Han Solo in Star Wars when he heard the offer from Obi Wan. He sees it as his chance to pay off Jabba and get out from under what he owes.

It will depend on your background and where you are from. If you come from northern Canada, the odds of you having personal knowledge of vampires is going to be less than if you have lived in Texas for a while.

Psychie Psychie Yeah, but if you're a Canadian, you'll know all about that Bigfoot mystery, won't'cha? Heh! I kind of like the idea of Chan-Chan having scholarly knowledge, but little to no personal experience with vampires (or gargoyles). I think the role-playing will be better if she's never faced them first-hand! =)

As far as O.C.C.s are concerned, I must admit, I'm undecided. As a Chiang-Ku, she receives a total of 7 non-super psychic powers, and her tattoos and her ability to draw them are dear to her. She's not a Tattoo Master, but inking gives her great pleasure, whether its a person getting their first "tat" or a True Atlantean Cyber-Knight going up a level. =)

It's just... beyond that, I'm not sure where to take her. I've always thought of her as a Grey Seer. If that's out, then likely so is Mystic. Here are other options I've considered:

Techno-Wizard - a fun idea, but that takes a lot of GM back-and-forth and this is your first game as GM.
Controller/Lord Magus/High Magus, etc. - Just too much.
Ley Line Walker/Rifter - Neat, but... it's basically an Invocation specialist. It's my "fall-back-to" O.C.C..
Elemental Fusionist - Neat, but the idea of costing triple P.P.E. when you're in a city is a deal-breaker.
Warlock - Cool idea! The Avatar: The Last Airbender theme sings here. Maybe Water? Or Air + Water? Neat, but limiting spell-wise (3 spells for one element only or 1 of each if you choose 2 elements).
Shamans/Druids - Just plain doesn't fit my concept of this Chiang-Ku dragon. She's Chinese.
Stone Master - Neat, skilled, and definitely anti-vampire, but... I'm unsure of how to play one.
Any other Atlantean O.C.C. - Probably too much. If I wanted to go tattoos, I'd ask to be a Tattoo Master.

I would like to keep things kind of basic and go with an O.C.C. that you're familiar with or at least very comfortable with.

Your thoughts?

What about going with a psychic class, like the Burster or Mind Melter?

What about going with a psychic class, like the Burster or Mind Melter?
Hmm. I've never thought of that. But how potent is a Mind Melter going to be against undead or gargoyles? I honestly don't know.

As for the Burster, while vampires can be harmed by fire, I see them as kind of a one-trick pony. Burster powers really don't do a great deal of damage (a Coalition Plasma rifle does more though it runs on E-Clips or E-Canisters).

Chan-Chan has always loved the mystery of magic. Hmm.

Let me look over the Grey Seer and see what I think of it. I may go ahead and let you take that class after all.

Uh, you sure? It's a lot to remember.

Hydrokinesis does very good damage vs Vampires, also super Telekinesis is handy and effective with the right things.

Yeah, I saw those and wondered about them.

Psychie Psychie are we able to get skills from the Compendium list?
Hey! Which Skills are you going for?

The Compendium v6.5 has some good ones, but there are also some real landmines to watch out for (i.e. Kickboxing! +1 Attack per Round, stacks with Boxing! Wheeee! You too can have 6 Attacks per Round at 1st level prior to any R.C.C. or O.C.C. bonuses! Plus, no need to call for a Knockout - if you roll a Natural 20, it counts as a Knockout! Oh boy! But it's better than the Skills v6.0 where you received 2 Attacks per Round).

Right Brain Memory Techniques can help you memorize a spell in 1/8th the time, but my all-time favorite Skill (taken from Ninjas & Superspies so I'm guessing it's a creation of the incomparable Erick Wujcik) is...

... Role-playing Game Design: Gives characters the ability to drive themselves beyond exhaustion, and to keep incredible hours without food or sleep. Attribute Bonus: +1 to P.E.. Base Skill: 32% +4% per level of experience.

Is that terrific or what? But what's in there for an True Atlantean Cyber-Knight? Sherwood Sherwood =)

I've seen that skill before and it makes me laugh every time.

I'm still looking at the skill list, and I'm considering taking Lore: Vampires, but I don't want to mess up the game balance. There are just so many skills there to choose from, it is taking some time to look them all over.

Have some more rolls to make. Six 1d4 rolls from the Cyber Knight class.

4d4 from Spd

1d4x10 SDC

10d6 SDC

3d6 for Hit Points and level increase

Psychie Psychie I have posted my Cyber Knight. I still need to write up his equipment, but the bulk of the sheet is done. Might still make a few other adjustments, but at least you can see what I'm thinking with him.

Psychie Psychie If the Grey Seer O.C.C. doesn't work out, I can go in a number of simpler directions including changing characters. Do you remember my would-be Paladin/Cleric Dreamy of Desna?

I'm kind of stuck between playing a character like Dreamy who is hardcore-dedicated and capable of taking on vampires and gargoyles (like a Psi-Warrior from Psyscape or Russian Slayer from Mystic Russia with background changes) or... playing a more laid-back character who is simply along for the ride (Chan-Chan). Both are fun!

Psychie Psychie If this is to be a combat-heavy game with action in the lead, I'd like to play Dreamy. She's hardcore with unbreakable faith and no fear of violence. There are a number of O.C.C.s she might fill that would lend well to a European adventure. If religion might play a role, she would be my first pick. My only question is if I would make her something besides human. And if so, what?

Chan-Chan is the better pick for me if this is more of a social game with research and lore, mysteries to discover and magic to play some large role. Like Snowfall, Chan-Chan has an unquenchable curiosity that pulls her in solution-driven directions. Though she prefers to avoid violence, she's a support character by nature without being a liability and will fight to the end for a good cause.

Hmm. Thoughts anyone?

The game is going to be more combat intensive than a socially driven one. Not to say that there will not be any social interaction, but it will not be the focus of the game.

Just wondering, do we want to be an established group, it should we meet for the first time in the game? I can go either way.
